Mitt Romney Tries To Bribe College Students To Attend His Iowa Rally
The Romney campaign was so desperate to get students to attend an on campus rally at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa that they were giving away a foam Mitt or ball to the first 1,000 attendees.
Here is the press release announcing the event,
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will hold a rally in Orange City Friday, Sept. 7, beginning at noon (note time change from the Romney campaign) in Northwestern College’s Bultman Center gym.
Tickets are required and available free at the Northwestern College Rowenhorst Student Center front desk starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5.
Doors open for the Friday event at 10 a.m.; guests should enter through the Bultman Center’s main doors and allow enough time to pass through security before entering the arena. The first 1,000 attendees will receive a limited edition Mitt Romney foam mitt or baseball.
Mitt Romney is so desperate to make it appear that young voters support him that he is literally doing stadium style giveaways in order to get people to attend.
Judging by who the campaign picked to be in the crowd shot behind Romney, their giveaway didn’t work.
Ironically during his speech Romney accused Obama of offering college students, “lots of free stuff” in order to vote for him, when at the very same event he had to offer students free stuff just to try to get them to attend. By the way, the free stuff that Romney was complaining about includes things like Pell Grants, Work Study, and access to student loans.
To give you an idea of how well his college student bribe went over, here is Romney working the rope line after the event.
Unless those senior citizens are freshmen, I would say that this was the typical Romney crowd.
Mitt Romney is so unpopular that he has to try to bribe people to come see him speak. Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and Sarah Palin never had to give away free stuff to try to attract a crowd. Anyone who has ever been to a Ron Paul rally on a college campus can confirm that Dr. Paul doesn’t have to give things away to get people to come see him, but the Republican Party’s 2012 nominee can’t attract a crowd on his own merits.
There is something sad and pathetic about Mitt Romney having to sell his campaign events the same way that a minor league baseball team sells tickets.
Even though he is the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney remains bush league.

I figured out what Palin is so irate about. The GOP never mentioned her ONCE last week, and the Dems dared to say her pitiful name. She isn’t mad at Kerry, methinks.

omigawd – I bet you’re right – THAT explains that wierd remark about how did Kerry know her name?Because the RNC never mentioned her once!
And she should be pissed. I think she’s batsh*t crazy, but she was their nominee and that was just last election, and they let McCain speak.

Also reminds me of the movie “Game Change” and what I read at the time about her demanding to speak after McCain’s concession speech. Didn’t have anything worthwhile to say then & the Bend Over Party made sure not to allow her to be her trademarked failin’ stupid in 2012 at their convention.

You can’t not pay them and force them to come… so what are you gonna do, Mittens? Give them candy? That’s how out of touch he is.

Maybe he should have told them rather than get those nasty government handouts, that later improve the economy for everyone, they should just get their parents to give them stocks they can sell whenever they need money.. you know.. like he did.

When mitt was in College he claimed they really had it bad…that they gradually sold some of the stock his dad gave him so that they could live. They lived fairly well while he attended college. I went on food stamps and pell grants on stafford loans and GI Bill to get my degrees. Brit didn’t have to get a loan…he had money…poor Mitt…never to wonder where he would get his next paycheck or meal. he is disgusting…wants to get rid of pell grants and low cost loans to students.

I wonder if Will Rogers was thinking about Romney or as Grandma calls him Romany, when he wrote this joke. “I dont write the jokes I just watch the polticians and report the facts”.

If you're going to write about something, you should do your research so you're presenting the facts. There was a total of 3,500 in attendance (including overflow) and at least a third of that was college and high school students. I was there; you obviously weren't.

Shadango, you are totally correct! I was there too! The line to get in was amazing! We got there two hours early and were lucky to get into the overflow room! I heard organizers had only planned for 2,000 people to attend (3,500 showed up). Last week when President Obama spoke in Sioux City (less than an hour from Orange City) only 2,800 people showed up. This article is so biased it isn’t even funny!

Oh! Wow, what a stupid liberal I am! Why can’t I find a good-paying, full-time job while going to school full-time AND maintaining my 4.0 in the middle of a recovery after the financial crisis Dubya didn’t start even though he was in office for that past 8 years?

Well little Ms I don’t believe in loans, where are you going to school? An average Bachelor’s degree is $26,0000. Unless you Father is Romney most of us wouldn’t be able to take even one credit hour at a time let alone three! Hope you’re saving for your house already, since you don’t believe n loans! Sheesh, people are so funny!

You think that people should just make sacrifices? Ok. I worked 2 jobs from the age of 18-26 to TRY to be able to afford college. I sacrificed 8 years of my life at crappy jobs barely making ends meet! I STILL needed those loans! You need higher education to make good enough money to save for anything!

That’s only a third. Who were the other two thirds that showed up? This was at a college wasn’t it? Guess most of the students had better things to do. Like ask their parents to pay their tuition. They sure as hell wont’ be getting Pell grants on Mittens watch.

Rejection is something no one deals with well.
Well Mr Romney rejection on the national and international stage is something you had better get used to, because massive doses are soon to visit their extremely depressive impact upon you.
Check with John McCain and Sarah Palin. There is no remedy once you have sullied your credibility to such a degree.
Maybe you should prepare to self deport!

Hey… I went to see Obama today and they gave away free stuff, too. There were 7500 tickets given away and there were people on the streets asking if anyone had extras. Once we got through security everyone was offered free bottled water! All the water you could drink… and recycling bins for the empty bottles. Thank goodness… it was an outdoor event and very hot. The campaign was thinking about us though. When they ran out of water… they sent folks out for more. Pallets of it! After the event, while we waited for a bus, they came and offered older folks chairs to sit in and more water. Damn… and to think I coulda had a foam Mitt. :D

President Obama had a sold out crowd of over 13,000 at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO Aug 28, more than maxed out the space. Too bad they didn’t arrange a larger area, it would have filled up.

I find it quite amusing that poor Willard has to stoop to that level in order to attract college students’ support. It’s indicative of the fact that college students are more unlikely to reject the backward ideology Willard espouses than to support it. He is a pathetic, shallow man who exemplifies what the GOP has devolved into.

I think you meant likely Anne? In any case, only a very unlikely to succeed college student would support Romney/Ryan.

Thank you for catching the oversight. I did indeed mean that someone with a college education or degree IS more likely than not to reject Willard Romney. He is the most inept presidential candidate of a major party that I’ve seen during my lifetime, and is also one of the most dangerously flawed.

Speaking of college students….Eddie Munster was quoted by Yahoo News (not The Onion, Freewoodpost or Andy Borowitz) as saying that the federal government shouldn’t interfere with a state’s effort to legalize marijuana…(triple take)….wait…Munster is promoting something that’s LIBERAL?!? Have we entered Bizarro world? I’m completely expecting Rod Serling to walk out and tell us we’re part of a Twilight Zone episode…this could be a desperation move as the Obama Administration has said they won’t interfere with the three states’ (Wash., Ore. and Colo.) efforts to legalize mary jane in November. Is Eddie Munster trying to get the Ron Paul vote? WTF?

I am a Republican…I voted for Mitt in the Primary…that’s before I really did the research everyone should do before voting. When he was in Mass. he was for choice…he signed off on a Healthcare for All bill…but unfortunately Mass was 47th in Job Creation (during the 90s!!!) Now he has flipped completely around and is now anti-choice and still has the same attitude he did in Mass. He always thinks of profit instead of Cost. Profit in the case of Halliburton and Money for defense that the Dept of Defense is not asking for…but ignored our troops in his acceptance speech because “they were not important enough to mention”…after all they were the Cost of doing business. Now he speaks to college students who take out loans and get Pell grants to attend college…whose parents certainly don’t have money for their education is they are like most of the parents I run into…what in the world could he have to say to them…he is against higher education except for those who can already afford it…remember when this was the name of the game…back in the 1900s…1920s, and 30s. After the second world war we got the GI Bill which the Republicans fought against. They are still fighting against higher education for the “masses” and only want it for the wealthy kids. They are categorically evil and have become the American Taliban. I am now an Independent and will vote for Obama because I don’t want a consummate liar and flip flopper as a president. want the truth? Go to www.dynionmwyn.net/Nation...

How symbolic yet ironic for Mitt Romney to announce his VP choice on the battleship USS Wisconsin. GOP Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney certainly has the comfort of knowing it will not be the children of his fellow church members that will be fighting in any U.S. wars. The State of Utah lawmakers and other LDS/Mormon faithful lawmakers went to Washington in the 70′s and made sure federal regulation was passed to exempt their 19-24 year old men and women from serving in the US Military. On any given day the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) – The Mormons has as many 40,000 young men and women missionaries in this age group serving their church worldwide.
