Mittens Impossible: Romney Bombs on Fox News
Mitt Romney managed to do the impossible today. He bombed on Fox News by turning a softball question on his tax returns into a total word salad disaster.
Here is the video from Fox News:
Watch the latest video at video.foxnews.com
Everything was going fine for Mitt Romney on Fox and Friends. Gretchen Carlson and crew were mixing lies about President Obama with his campaign’s talking points. Everything was just dandy for Mitt, until the topic of his tax returns came up.
Eric Bolling asked Romney if he thought releasing his tax returns would be a good way to go on offense, and the Republican nominee replied, “John McCain ran for president and released two years of tax returns. John Kerry ran for president, and his wife, who has hundreds of millions of dollars, she never released her tax returns. Somehow this wasn’t an issue. The Obama people keep on wanting more and more and more, more things to pick through, more things for their opposition research to try and make a mountain out of and distort and to be dishonest about.”
At that moment, Romney managed to do the impossible. He became a Republican who bombed on Fox News. Here is what the Romney campaign doesn’t grasp. The media has now gotten a hold of the tax returns issue, and they are demanding answers. (No, Mitt. Trying to change the subject to Fast and Furious is not going to work.)
Here’s how Yahoo! News’s The Ticket wrote up Romney’s Fox and Friends visit, “Romney slams Obama’s ‘dishonest’ attacks, rejects calls to release more tax returns” Politico ran with the headline, “Romney-world changes the subject” On ABC News the headline is, “For Mitt Romney, The Tax Questions Cometh“.
When a Republican appears on Fox News, especially peppy propaganda outlet Fox and Friends, and manages to escalate to the conversation on the subject that he is trying to avoid talking about, that is a disaster.
Mitt Romney is starting reach unprecedented territory here. He might be the first Republican that even Fox News couldn’t save. The media is going to keep asking about the tax returns, and Romney is going to doggedly try to run out the clock on the 2012 election.
The answer to why Mitt Romney won’t release more tax returns is obvious, and it isn’t just that he is very rich. It isn’t that he paid a very low tax rate. The longer his campaign goes without releasing more returns, the clearer it becomes that there is something in them that could seriously damage his campaign.
It isn’t that Mitt Romney won’t release his tax returns. It is more probable that he can’t release his tax returns and remain a viable candidate for the presidency.
Romney’s invoking of John Kerry’s wife as political cover was borderline insane, because Mrs. Kerry wasn’t running for president in 2004. Her candidate husband actually released two decades of tax returns to the public. John McCain has filed disclosure forms for his entire public life. His finances are well known.
Mitt Romney’s answer to Eric Bolling was an admission that he can’t use his tax returns to go on the offensive against Obama. The best that he can do is to try to change the subject. Fox News threw Mitt Romney softballs for seven minutes, and on the most important meatball over the heart of the plate, he struck out swinging.
Romney accomplished the impossible. He went on Fox News and made the situation worse.

Obama is having a hard time creating jobs because ROMNEY outsourced all of the jobs!

Obama’s stimulus package created jobs. We need more stimulus. Until American consumers have money to spend, there will be little growth. The “trickle down” tax breaks to the wealthy have not, and will not, provide the jobs. The President is on the right track, Romney is off the rails.

Bringing up a previous candidate’s wife’s tax returns is simply another step toward the Romney Campaign Total Implosion. I do not know what can save him at this point. He has lost whatever little bit of credibility he might have had.
The ad they created with Pres. Obama singing is absolutely ridiculous. I do not know who is running his campaign and approved this ad. It starts out with a cheering crowd, the words flash on the screen too fast, and it ends with the President singing and a crowd loudly cheering. If they hoped to land some kind of body blow with this ad, they messed it up royally.
I just don’t know how anyone can still be supporting Romney.

4:15 and the comments are still there. But Mitts dad said he could have the Presidency. And a balloon. And a peanut butter samwich. And if he’s real good, a pony to tie to the roof of his fire truck.

That particular YouTube has been blocked… by BMG (Bertelsmann Music Group) for a copyright violation claim. Hmm, makes me think they didn’t obtain the right to use the music… Another loss for the Romney campaign.

The video is no longer available because of a copyright infringement. I think it was because of the music.

Isn’t lying to S.E.C. a felony? He either lied or he lied, but either way he lied, LIAR. This in regards to Bain, which has to be part of the issue with his missing or rather well hidden returns. Willard, the human rat, is on my last nerve!
When Forbes becomes a liberal think tank (35 question Willard must answer before any of this ges away), you know he has serious issues.

I’m glad the faux conservatives are being forced to take a good, hard look at their candidate. All I heard when Romney became the presumptive GOP nominee was how his being a successful businessman was “just the thing America needs.” I knew Romney was an habitual liar, and I knew he was covering up something about his finances that he doesn’t want us to know. When PBO campaign team decided to go after Romney’s career at Bain, many democratic strategists condemned him for it. What they don’t know is that PBO does his research. He, Plouffe, Axelrod, and other team members had already done the research before the first Bain ad was released. David Frum was right when he wrote in his “Daily Beast” column on yesterday that Romney is the weakest GOP candidate in years. Sometimes it takes more than money and a successful career in business to succeed in politics. Romney has ethics problems, and it’s becoming clearer as time goes by that he is arrogant, secretive, doesn’t accept responsibility for his actions, and he doesn’t handle being under pressure well. Who in his right mind would invoke the name of a political opponent’s rich wife to justify not doing what is expected of him as a candidate running for the highest office in the country? Mitt Romney, that’s who.

I wonder just how much more likely Romney’s recent performance makes a brokered convention possible!
It would be absolutely delightful to see the GOP implode on the national stage from Tampa this August!

Romney is an idiot.

Romney seems to have insuperable problems with other people in the GOP, and even garden-variety wingnuts. McCain wasn’t of course enthusiastically supported by every right-winger; but Romney (’08 loser to McCain, who was in turn loser to President Barack Obama) is even further removed from full & unequivocal support of his own party. Hysterical, irrational, racist, reactionary response to the president has unhinged these people and knocked them totally off their game. If this were an athletic competition between two world-class people (POTUS is after all the biggest prize of them all), we’d never imagine Romney pulling out a win, as maladroit and unfocused as he is in this political arena…

Listen to how cheesy Gretchen Carlson sounds when she says “‘Some people’find it ironic that the President is apologizing to ‘foriegn nations all the time’…[but will] not apologize to you!’ Who on earth are these ‘some people’ and what ‘foreign governments is she talking about that Obama supposedly apologized to and for what?? She is a pathetic excuse for a journalist.. what an absolute joke!!

So Heckle Jekyll and HIDE is whining about John Kerry’s wife’s taxes and Lying and more Whining about Kerry’s and McCain’s tax returns. Some enterprising reporter who hasn’t been bought should ask him why McCain’s team had 23 years of his tax returns and turned him down for the unvetted palin?

Romney mentioned all this money going to Obama’s contributors, but there is something that Romney is not saying much about: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7... It seems that Romney wants to profit from the taxpayer, and there’s nothing like his in Obama’s Record. Go figure.

Wow, Thank for this FOX Video. Something we might never have come across on our own.
Romney looks terrible! With dark circles under his eyes.
Republicans were absolutely vicious toward John Kerry, remember?
So glad that Dems have finally taken off the ‘nice’ gloves and are fighting for The American People!
History will show…
Bush/Cheney destroyed The GOP!

If romney has nothing to hide about his taxes, why did he say this weekend that releasing more forms would be detrimental to his campaign. If that’s not saying you are guilty, nothing does.

“The Obama people keep on wanting more and more and more, more things to pick through”
Kind of like being asked over and over again for your birth certificate, then providing it and being asked for a better one…then providing that and being asked for your school records? All things no other President has ever been asked to do by the way.

So the plan is simply to run on the anti-Obama platform, funded by a few billionaires and hope enough people will hold their noses and vote for the guy without dark skin. I’m curious about the hue and cry for campaign finance reform and transparency always followed by the comments that the American people are too smart to let money buy an election. If we were so smart, the Dems wouldn’t be so afraid.

Part of the issue is Romney is just not that polished, persuasive or presentable. The GOP knew this for the last 4+ years and he’s still the best they had to nominate. Now that he’s the GOP’s nom. for POTUS, he’s not suddenly going to become Obamalike on the stump just because they are supposedly at the same level in this campaign for president. He’ll continue to look ill-prepared and ill-at-ease for the next 4 months too. Get used to it.

Romney is running on his management of Bain, now he is running as fast as he can to get away from Bain, so he is sending out all the merchants of hate to say ObaMA IS NOT AN AMERICAN FOR SPENDING TIME OVERSEAS (AS A CHILD) How about Romney’s time living in France (as an adult) to get out of service in Vietnam?
How about the Romney that gives american jobs to communist china, mexico, indonesia etc?
Who is more American?
