Mitt Romney NAACP African American Photo Op Results In Total Disaster
Mitt Romney was not only booed for saying that he would repeal ObamaCare, but the entire speech was a disaster that will dominate the news cycle.
Here is the video of Romney getting booed:
Romney’s speech was filled with uneasy and awkward moments such as,
But there is another reason: I believe that if you understood who I truly am in my heart, and if it were possible to fully communicate what I believe is in the real, enduring best interest of African American families, you would vote for me for president. I want you to know that if I did not believe that my policies and my leadership would help families of color — and families of any color — more than the policies and leadership of President Obama, I would not be running for president.
I know what it will take to put people back to work, to bring more jobs and better wages. My jobs plan is based on 25 years of success in business. It has five key steps.
First, I will take full advantage of our energy resources, and I will approve the Keystone pipeline from Canada. Low cost, plentiful coal, natural gas, oil, and renewables will bring over a million manufacturing jobs back to the United States.
Second, I will open up new markets for American products. We are the most productive major economy in the world, so trade means good jobs for Americans. But trade must be free and fair, so I’ll clamp down on cheaters like China and make sure that they finally play by the rules.
Third, I will reduce government spending. Our high level of debt slows GDP growth and that means fewer jobs. If our goal is jobs, we must, must stop spending over a trillion dollars more than we earn. To do this, I will eliminate expensive non-essential programs like Obamacare, and I will work to reform and save Medicare and Social Security, in part by means-testing their benefits.
Fourth, I will focus on nurturing and developing the skilled workers our economy so desperately needs and the future demands. This is the human capital with which tomorrow’s bright future will be built. Too many homes and too many schools are failing to provide our children with the skills and education that are essential for anything other than a minimum-wage job.
And finally and perhaps most importantly, I will restore economic freedom. This nation’s economy runs on freedom, on opportunity, on entrepreneurs, on dreamers who innovate and build businesses. These entrepreneurs are being crushed by high taxation, burdensome regulation, hostile regulators, excessive healthcare costs, and destructive labor policies. I will work to make America the best place in the world for innovators and entrepreneurs and businesses small and large.
Romney went off script when he got booed and he cited a study from the Chamber of Commerce claimed that ObamaCare will kill jobs. It would be unfair to say that he lost the crowd with his ObamaCare line, because he never had the audience with him.
Mitt Romney’s big solution that he tried to pitch to African American voters can be summed up as if you give the wealthy and corporations more, they will create jobs for you. The audience was never receptive to Romney’s message, and he probably would have been better off skipping the charter school stuff in his speech, and actually trying to speak to the audience.
Voters of all races have heard everything that Mitt Romney is offering for decades. Romney is breaking out the Republican stock and trade pledge that if we give the people at the top more, they will generously let everyone else have a few crumbs.
Mitt Romney’s inability to connect with his fellow humans was on full display today. When he was booed, Romney could have seized the opportunity to go off script and talk to the audience as people. Recent presidents like Obama, and Clinton would have done this. Heck, even George W. Bush might have cracked a joke, but Romney isn’t capable of that sort of behavior.
Unscripted moments can make or break a candidacy. The headlines would have been totally different if Romney would have been able to turn it around and use the audience’s displeasure to his advantage. Instead, the headline is Awkward Mitt Romney Booed at NAACP Convention.
A potentially good moment became yet another epic Romney disaster, and the Romneybot 3000 still has no idea what it takes to be a human being.

I couldn’t watch the speech after the first three minutes when he introduced himself by talking about the spiritual that was played. I was so embarrassed for the people who had to listen to him and on tenterhooks waiting for the word “colored” or something far worse to slip out.
I am from Utah by way of many years in Massachusetts and a Romney has been in the background of my life for more than 50 years. Never minded Mitt too much until he started this campaign but now view him as one of the most despicable people in politics.

You did NOT just say “human capital” to the NAACP. Unfuckinbelievable.

Nina, I couldn’t believe he said “human capital.” May as well have been “slave” or “property” and surely the audience felt the same. I hope Dems replay him saying that a million times because it is how he views all people and not just African Americans. A truly pathetic and genuinely racist, inhumane waste of matter.

But the GOP LOVES those minimum wage jobs. Just get two or three of them and you’ll be set. You still won’t have sick days, or vacation days (except your birthday at McDonald’s) , a retirement fund beyond SS, or be able to pay your mortgage, but guldurnit, you won’t be one of those lazy liberals expecting a handout. Meanwhile, every attempt to raise the minimum wage is blocked by the ‘that will cost jobs’ bull, when it never has cost jobs, but instead, created more demand as people have more to spend. See, Mitt, the rich and their $57,000 a day stash all their extra money in shelters and blind trusts run by their lawyer buddies. The rest of us actually make home improvements, go to the movies, buy new shoes when we have extra cash. THAT creates demand, which means jobs. The GOP is greedy, heartless, cruel, and needs to go away in November. All of them.

“a retirement fund beyond SS,”
No one will be getting that either after Mitt & company privatize it. (Besides, doesn’t getting Social Security mean you’re a “slave” or is that just for people on Social Security Disability???)

Is he saying sump’in instead of something? He said it twice. Is it because he thinks black people will relate to it?

Maybe he thought the “CP” stood for Conservative People?
Like one poster said above, as soon as he walked out there and started talking about the spiritual – oh my goodness, I thought he was going to say it was “just the right pitch” like the trees in Michigan that were “the right height.” Painful.
We need a president who is cool under pressure and can think on his feet and be comfortable talking to people from all walks of life. That’s Pres. Obama, not Mitt Romney.

I just read on another blog that when Romney entered the hall, he saw a black person’s hair style and asked, “Is that real?” then he asked to touch it. The man doesn’t get out much if he hasn’t noticed the different ways Black Americans wear their hair, especially black females. I hate going to the hair dresser because some of the women want such elaborate hairstyles that take so much time for my hair dresser to complete.

When a white person asks a Black to “touch their hair” it sends a very nasty chill up my spine because that goes back to the old belief that rubbing a “darkies” hair will bring you good luck. It is racist. Romney knew what he was asking and it was a private joke to his base — just like his whole speech was a joke. He said exactly what he meant to say and got the reaction he wanted to get. This man and the Republican party have made it pretty clear that they don’t give a damn about the poor — much less minorities. The Republicans have unleashed an unbelievable torrent of disrespect, lies and treasonous words and actions this country has ever witnessed. They have lost any modicum of self respect, ethics or moral compass they once seemed to treasure.
If he had asked me if he could touch my hair, I like to think I would have politely said No. But given the climate of today, I would have very loudly said HELL NO!!

He may just have been playing to his base. They’re pretty base.

Exactly what I was going to say. I think the reception he received at the convention will actually strengthen his creds with the base. It only affirms everything they believe – that they alone know what is best for the country and by that I mean old white men.

This is the sort of thing we’re fighting against… “news” that is designed to help ALEC and the Republicans take over the country and then take away our freedom and rights.

Some commentators appear to think that by going into an NAACP meeting and antagonizing the audience, Rott was maneuvering to get the Mean White People vote.

because everyone but Romney would feel comfortable talking to a crowd of people you know hate you and have nothing in common with you. I’m sure Obama talking to a large crowd of white Republicans who kept on booing him would work out pretty much the same.

President Obama faces that all the time. Remember “You lie!”???
It may be the same hate-filled faces in the crowd (like I’ve heard about some town meetings… in completely different areas and states), but he’s already faced them and came across as cool, collected, and willing to listen, even if he disagrees.

Excuse me, while I vent for a second, and this might be a little off topic.. But this so and so (willard) went to a fundraiser right afterwards, and told the audience that “these people expect to get more free stuffs from the government, then they should vote for the other guy.”
This after the taxpayers and the poor bailed him and his corporate freeloaders out of a HALF TRILLION DOLLAR hold.. That we the middle and poor workers who are still digging our way out… A President who presented every JOB PROPOSAL that these ignorant asses refused to passed to help paid back our working class.. Not a hand-out but a hand-up.. They insulted our color, our gender, our religion, our intelligent, our children… And aspect a standing ovation, but better yet, our vote to put this ass-wipe in the White House so he can screw us to our faces…
Well, I’ll tell you what? This sorry excuse first of a human being, second, this poor excuse as a candidate they (republican) put up to inspire to hold the highest office in this land CAN KISS MY YOU KNOW WHAT AND WHERE THE SUN DON’T SHINE THERE…
Thank you, for letting me vent and I’m sorry if I offend anyone here…

Seems Romney only wanted to get support from the dominionist and evangelical crowds. Sadly both are as racist today as the were in the 1800′s.

In-as-much as I admit to not knowning much about the Elder Romney’s style of politics, governing, and campaigning, but also reading all that I have read on Mitt Romney and his stupidity, lying,flip-flopping, Etch-a-Sketch, negative-based campaign style, AND his refusal to follow in his fathers footsteps, its very painfully clear that Mitt is N O T his FATHERS son ! ! !
Considering he has endorsed the Ryan budget, is about an average 10 points behind with womens groups, about 40 points behind with latino’s, and about 90 points behind with African-American voters, HOW is it even possible that the race is even CLOSE!?!?!?!?! The poll numbers make NO sense!
