Mitt Romney Puts the Republican Spin about Sandy in Bill Clinton’s Mouth
Mitt Romney is now claiming that Bill Clinton told him that he might have won, were it not for Hurricane Sandy.
ABC reports on a Romney phone conference:
Romney: “I spoke with President Clinton the day before yesterday, he called and spent thirty minutes chatting with me. He said a week out I thought you were going to win. And he said, but the hurricane happened, and it gave the president a chance to be presidential, and to look bipartisan, and you know he got a little more momentum, and of course he also said that when he was watching Ann speak at the Republican convention, he decided he was tempted to join the Republican Party. So he may have just been effusive with generous comments as he chatted.”
Obviously, Romney is having a tough time with reality. Not only did his first debate bump not last past the improving economic numbers just days later, but this is the man who put words in Australia’s Foreign Minister’s mouth in order to attack Obama.
The idea that Bill Clinton would suggest that he was tempted to join the Republican Party after watching Ann Romney speak is, at best, an example of Bill’s charm. At worst, it is not true or is an exaggeration of a nicety thrown out by Clinton to the loser.
Bill Clinton is one of the best politicians around. He knows the hurricane did not win the election for Obama, although Obama’s competency in dealing with it did not hurt. Obama was already winning in the swing states, where he swept Romney, leaving him “shell shocked”.
The narrative that the hurricane did Romney in is a Republican talking point, desperately being spread around in order to excuse the candidate and Karl Rove for their failure to deliver a win to wealthy donors who were told Romney was winning.
If Mitt Romney was told this and he believes it, it is only more evidence of his utter lack of discernment. This is not the first time Romney tried to co-opt Bill Clinton for his team, and he may have thought that sharing this story would suddenly make the blame-the-hurricane narrative more feasible. Sometimes, politicians say appeasing things to the loser. Those things are not necessarily true.
If only Mitt Romney could have dealt with the reality of his campaign on day one or at any time during the election, he might have been able to at least craft his message in order to avoid an epic fail.
But this is Mitt Romney — showing us once again why he really lost this election. Mitt Romney is so blinded by his own reflection that he can’t see what is right in front of him. It wasn’t the “gifts”, the hurricane or Chris Christie. It was him.

This is not at all surprising. In fact anything Gov. Etch-A-Sketch says is utterly predictable given his characteristics that are alarmingly in line with Psychopathy.
I’m sure he’ll be exploiting others and pointing more fingers before he goes back into his self entitled hole where the wealthy and ignorant live.

I’d love to know what Clinton said and how he said it. Romney either took all of his comments out of context or he just plain lied.

Fmr. President Clinton has a way of saying one thing when he really means something entirely different, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Romney interpreted what was meant to be snark as serious and factual. He’s not known for being sensitive to nuance.

Clinton probably told Romney (if they even actually spoke), “Bless your heart.” (I believe that’s a Southern way of telling someone to eff off–you’re full of it.)

Why isn’t President Clinton out there refuting this latest crap from Romnesia? The longer he remains silent, the more stupid R’thugs will believe it.

NOW is the time for Obama AND CLINTON to PUBLICALLY call Romney on this c r a p.
Calling out the sick people who have taken over the GOP is the only way the GOP can get healthy again.
MORE THAN OUR PRESIDENT AND CLINTON, THE OLD GOP NEEDS TO CALL OUT EVERY LIE, EVERY HYPOCRITACY (SP?)EVERY RACIST CODED MESSAGE THE SICK NEW GOP TRIES TO GET AWAY WITH.
The GOP needs to understand it is to THEIR benefit to start calling the mentally unstable among them and to support our President when he calls them out.
I have never seen such a mess of lim* dic*s in life.
I NEVER thought the truly mentally ill would even try —much less get this far—on the political stage.

I should also add that it is highly unlikely that Bill Clinton would credit a hurricane for giving the President the win before he’d credit himself. :)

Agree Elizabeth. President Clinton really did a lot for the campaign; he’s a great campaigner and he connects with people. He tells it like it is in a reasoned manner, using that “down home” language of his and people respond to it. Say what you will about Clinton but that man knows how to campaign!

Clinton may like credit that he deserves, but he went far and away in favor of Obama than he had to do and I believe he did it because he cares what is best for the country over self-centered “fame” and he truly supports President Obama and is himself sick and tired of the racism, disrespect, outright aggressive hostility the GOP has shown our president.
From what I saw of Clinton during the campaign, I think he truly like Obama as a person and really wants HIM to get the credit HE deserves, especially because Clinton appreciates just how historical it is that we 1) elected a black president and 2) that we elected him again :)
Romney is really deluding himself if he thinks Clinton really thought that without Sandy, Romney would have won.
I too are from the deep south ( many decades ago) and the phrases “Well, bless your heart” and “Isn’t he precious,” are both used when talking to or about someone who is just too stupid for words and can only be PITIED and NEVER taken seriously.
It is a genteel southern put down of the worse kind.

That’s what I’m thinking. I think this is another example of people trying to put words in Clinton’s mouth — like the time lil’ dick Morris claimed that while Clinton was campaigning for Obama, he was really supporting Romney (“I guarantee Bill Clinton will vote for Romney”):

This sounds like a wet dream Mittens had. There is no way Clinton would ever consider joining the party of hate. Good Lord, the man is a humanitarian. He helps people other than rich white males. And Ann’s speech was pretty dull. It would have been funnier if Bill had said he was impressed with the chair. Even then, Mitt wouldn’t have gotten the sarcasm. What a pitiful man he is. First blaming everything on ‘free stuff’ and now on the hurricane, and using Clinton as a shield. Yeah, he’s have been great with foreign policy, huh? Who would he have blamed the first time we were attacked? One guess.

Mitt, what planet ARE you from?? We want to see your birth certificate just to prove you are of the human race. Bill may say alot of things but I doubt that either of those 2 would come out of his mouth-unless it was part of a joke he was telling.
You and Bronco(love that little kid that said that) were pretty much flat lined in the polls(you loseing) before, during, and we all saw after.
I can’t figure out if you Republicans say this outlandish sh*t hopeing the Americian public as a whole will beleive it or if it’s for FAUX(not even close to being)NEWS so it can be the next day’s ‘talking points’ for all the ‘robot’ republicans to try and shove down any ones throat that is within hearing distance. Give it up and move on already-you lost(electorial and popular votes) which makes you the minority–too bad it’s not the ‘silent minority’. As an after thought-there are some of you that really should make an appointment with your Dr.-they definatly don’t have the meds quite right yet.

So now we know the truth about Mitt Romney. That “47 percent” secret tape showed us the real “self-made” (he thinks) rich guy happily ensconced among his own kind complaining about the sloth of the lower classes (i.e., virtually everybody else). Yes, that’s Romney’s world, but would Bill Clinton ever join their conversation? I hate to say it, but I wouldn’t put it past him. Obama, on the other hand, will always be an outsider to them….like the rest of us, including the Tea Party, whether they realize it or not. These are the real class warriors, America. Wake up and smell the money.

Oh I’m sure Ann had a complete melt-down.
I have experienced women of her “caliber” having melt downs over little more than nothing, mostly, theirs/someones materialist “stuff” (they have ice water in their veins for much else).
Women like Ann don’t usually go ballistic over ANY THING dealing with people’s feelings, pain or conflict; they causally go into manipulation mode or angered revenge if they are “upset”…Which is what Mittens is doing.
Either she’s projecting on to him via her anger/ manipulation (Damn you, Mitt! You promised me I could order dishes more extravagant than Laura Bush!) or he’s melted-down and she’s just the puppet that acts out his stuff, like “cry”….

Folks, it really doesn’t matter what Clinton said or didn’t say to Romney! It does not change the facts: 332/206 Electoral Votes?
Let’s not sweat the small stuff and feed into Romney’s madness!
Let’s stay focused on moving FORWARD! Let’s make sure the Bush tax cuts for the rich expire, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, are protected Affordable Care Act is enforced! Tax cuts for the middle-class do not expire!
Let’s nip the Republicans attempt to impeach the President in the bud by speaking-up on the fact that they were the ones responsible for what happened in Benghazi by voting to cut the budget for protection of our Embassies, against the wishes of the Secretary of State, etc. Call out Issa for putting our security at risk with his pathetic moves!
Republicans are attempting to keep everyone distracted while they attempt to dictate to the President who to appoint to his Cabinet. They, by the way, is pushing for Kerry to be appointed as Secretary of State, because they think Scott Brown would return from MA! McCain has the audacity to call the Ambassador to the UN unqualified is laughable as compared to Sarah Palin!
Let’s discuss issues in the interest of moving FORWARD rather than spending energy on the madness of the GOP! Take to Facebook and Twitter and support the President and let everyone know we are marching FORWARD TO BETTER DAYS FOR THE USA AND “ain’t no stopping us now.”
The more we ignore the madness of the GOP, and accentuate the positives of the UPWARD FORWARD MOVE we are on, the message will sink in!
There are many GOPers who know what the real deal is and are quietly moving FORWARD! They need our support against the “severely conservatives.”
We reach our hand in fellowship to every well-meaning American!

Hey Seeking the Truth,
If I’m Obama, I’m not worried about the Republicans, I’m worried about Hillary. The Republicans have no power. The Dems do, and have, in fact they are so good they can’t pass a budget in the Senate. How do you know how much you spend if you don’t have a budget. What a bunch of irresponsible liberals. Harry Reid is a joke. The guy is the biggest crook in Washington.

I don’t believe this about Clinton any more than I believe anything else from the mouth of a proven and pathological liar. Willard Romney is living in an impenetrable bubble of hypocrisy, untruths, and self-deception. The fact that his defeat did nothing to burst this bubble only reinforces his unworthiness to be elected to another office, least of all the presidency. He has exposed himself as a self-absorbed, self-entitled narcissist who is incapable of the kind of introspection that would allow him to deal with reality. At 65, that’s unlikely ever to change.

Agree, Anne. I don’t know if he talked to Bill Clinton, much less if Clinton said these things and this really highlights the ultimate problem with Romney: If we can’t even believe him about a PHONE CALL, then how did he expect us to vote for him? We won’t take his word for anything; look at a couple of the posts above – we want to hear from Bill Clinton because we simply do not believe Romney tells the truth about anything, even something as innocuous as a phone call.
I don’t know where his lies stop and the truth begins.

“Obviously, Romney is having a tough time with reality.”
Romney is as much if not more of a malignant narcissist as Palin is and BOTH are showing just how mentally unstable they are.
Palin did it yesterday or day before with her usual “i can’t stand that I lost to a black—again(her first time was to a black woman who won the Miss Alaska contest way back when)” and Romney not letting go that the campaign is over and HAVING TO TELL SUCH AN OBVIOUSLY ABSURD LIE AS THIS ONE ABOUT CLINTON.
We dodged the bullet with Palin.
We dodged the bullet with Romney.
President Obama needs to keep this bare knuckle fight against the overtaken GOP so the mentally ill (not name calling, just stating a fact) realize they are NOT going become president.
And if the OLD GOP wants their party back, NOW is the time to start being nice to our NEW AGAIN BLACK PRESIDENT AND START SHOWING THE GOP HAS NON RACIST, NON BIGGOTED, INTELLIGENT PEOPLE WHO ARE PROFESSIONAL AND REALLY DO CARE ABOUT THIS COUNTRY, even if we and they don’t see eye to eye on every issue.
The GOP has been taken over and THEY need to cooperate now with us to take their party back.
We need a two party system.
We do NOT need any more village idiots that are literally living out their Personality Disorders at the expense of the people in this country.

Yes, I do understand the budgeting process. Revenue come from taxes and fees. It comes from the private sector, Any one that works for the Government is actually just recycling their dollars. You can’t spend more that you bring in. That’s pretty simple. You have no idea how much your spending unless you do a budget. Medicare and Social security taxes will be 23% of your income by 2030.

medicare and social security have no effects upon the deficit. they are trust accounts. raise themedicare premium based on earned .income. social security can be solvent using a means test. i also beleive that senior citizens with income less than $50,000.00 should not have to pay taxes on the measly income from savings or checking accounts…. every dollar they get keeps them self sufficient.
