Mitt Romney’s 5 Biggest Lies During the First Half of the Third Presidential Debate
Mitt Romney is trying to lie and bluff his way through the third presidential debate, and here are his five biggest falsehoods during the first half of the debate.
1). Romney denied calling Russia our number one enemy.
The Truth: According to PolitiFact, in a CNN interview, Romney said, “There’s no question but that in terms of geopolitics — I’m talking about votes at the United Nations and actions of a geopolitical nature — Russia is the No. 1 adversary in that regard. That doesn’t make them an enemy. It doesn’t make them a combatant. They don’t represent the No. 1 national security threat. The No. 1 national security threat, of course, to our nation is a nuclear Iran. Time continues to pass. They continue to move towards nuclearization. This is more and more disconcerting and dangerous to the world. But Russia — particularly look at a place like Syria. Russia has supported the Assad regime even as it has been attacking its own people. Russia likewise has been slow to move to the kinds of sanctions that have been called for in Iran. Russia is a geopolitical adversary, but it’s not an enemy with, you know, missiles being fired at one another or things of that nature.”
2). Romney tried to claim that he and Obama have equal status of forces positions on Iraq.
The Truth: Obama wants to leave 3,000 troops in Iraq. Romney wants nothing less than 10,000-30,000. The two candidates’ positions aren’t equal. Romney wants more troops in Iraq than Obama does.
3). Romney said Obama was silent during the Green Revolution.
The Truth: Here is the statement that Obama issues in June 2009, “The Iranian government must understand that the world is watching. We mourn each and every innocent life that is lost. We call on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people. The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise those rights. As I said in Cairo, suppressing ideas never succeeds in making them go away. The Iranian people will ultimately judge the actions of their own government. If the Iranian government seeks the respect of the international community, it must respect the dignity of its own people and govern through consent, not coercion.”
4). Romney completely lied about his education record in Massachusetts.
The Truth: Mitt Romney touted his record of making Massachuettes number one in education, but according to the Boston Globe his real record was quite different, “And his much hyped John and Abigail Adams Scholarships cover only tuition at state colleges, not fees, which account for more than 80 percent of yearly costs at some schools. Just a quarter of the recipients actually choose to attend state colleges. “His impact was inconsequential,” said Glen Koocher, executive director of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees. “People viewed his proposals as political talking points, and no one took Romney seriously. What he gets credit for is absolutely refusing to compromise on everything he wanted to do from the moment he took office, and some people think that’s commendable.”…On the campaign trail, Romney proudly emphasizes Massachusetts’ national reputation for its stellar public K-12 education system. Bay State students routinely score at the top on national and international tests. But that achievement is largely credited to the state’s 1993 landmark education reform law that poured billions of dollars into schools, set academic standards, and spawned the standardized testing that Romney fiercely guarded.
5). Romney claimed that the US Navy has as many ships as it did in 1916.
The Truth: According to CNN, the number of ships under Obama has risen slightly, “First, Romney said the Navy was at its lowest level in terms of number of ships since 1916. The fact is, he is not that far off, but any assessment of the Navy’s size — relative to its number of ships — needs to be taken in context. What Romney didn’t mention is that in 2007 under President George W. Bush, the Navy’s ship tally hit a low not seen since the 19th century, according to U.S. Navy statistics. Generally, between 2003 and 2011, the number of ships has fluctuated between a high of 297 and a low of 278. And under President Barack Obama, the number of ships has risen slightly.”

Fox Fiction Favorite, Mitt Romney, continues his irrational O’Reilly rants in the 3rd debate. On one hand Romney wants to “strengthen the economy” but at the same time spend $1 trillion (enough to create one million millionaires) on army over-kill with his friends at Haliburton. We currently have enough weapons to destroy the world a thousand times over, and Romney wants more. We don’t need four more years of Bush/Cheney/Rove that almost bankrupted “our economy”. Contrary to Romney’s other lies, gasoline hit an all time high of $4.11 in the summer of 2008 under Bush, long before Obama took office. Under Clinton, gasoline was around one dollar per gallon. The two wars and Romney’s oil-speculating friends effectively cost Americans a “tax” of trillions of dollars, and thousands died both in Iraq and here at home as health care policies were butchered as well. As an ex-Navy veteran, I can assure you that the mere number of ships underway is a bogus criterion by which to judge a Navy. We may have fewer actual ships today than we did in 1919 — but back then we also did not have aircraft carriers (the Langley doesn’t count)and certainly no nuclear powered submarines. Our Navy today is a much leaner, meaner fighting machine, projecting considerably more power over greater distances.

First, thanks for your service, Jerry. Second, you demonstrate the obvious difference between someone who is well-versed on a(n) issue/topic as opposed to someone who tries to BS his/her way through a discussion on (a)n issue/topic. Some Americans may not believe it, but facts and the good critical thinking skills are important.

This is why I am voting for Romney. He clearly has the thinking skills, problem solving talent and experience. I wonder if you guys get headaches after the coolaide wears off?

I suppose the fact he has walked back every statement he has made in the last 2 years also shaped your decision

How DARE you, Governor Romney. How you dare cry crocodile tears about American jobs overseas when YOU YOURSELF have profited ENORMOUSLY from downsizing and outsourcing. How dare you mouth piety and CONCERN about the unemployed while you ship jobs from SENSATA to China.

I loved the way that Rachel Maddow commented how there’s a vast difference between saying that one once entertained a particular position but has changed his/her mind for various reasons, and flat-out lying and denying about something different said that is on record for all time. Willard continued to insult our intelligence with not only lying but also empty, generalized platitudes with few specifics. His weakness in foreign affairs was glaring as well.

Clearly, Mr. Obama understands the ever changing nature of our enemies. Our current needs are all about intelligence, mobility and use of technology in defending this nation. I think he came across as forthright, honest, steady headed and even handed. Romney needs to understand that diplomatic overtures, and “apologies,” are not the same. Thought, nuance, patience, and strength of conviction, when dealing with other nations is a surer, safer path than irresponsible saber rattling. Real strength comes from wisdom, counsel, deliberation and soul searching. Acting rashly just compounds our threats.

If Romney went the way of Bush, as Bush did in Iraq, you can be sure that those ‘friend’ nations won’t be lining up to help. There were minimal nations that helped in Iraq. The massive majority told Bush to put it what I would consider mildly — go suck eggs. They would have no part of it. And I wouldn’t anticipate the UK jumping in as they did in Iraq either. Romney would be on an island pretty much all by himself.
Those ‘friend’ nations will be a long time before they forget that they went into Afghanistan with the US from the beginning and were ‘abandoned’ while Bush dropped Afghanistan like a hot potatoe and went to Iraq. Many of those ‘friend’ nations are still in Afghanistan — they never left. They continued the dirty work Bush left behind while he went to Iraq to score for ‘Daddy’.

It’s very interesting to watch the presidential candidates debate. What’s good here, is that the Americans can evaluate the platforms and plans of each candidate based on how the candidates supported their causes.
I won’t be able to vote, but if I would, I’d vote for Obama, because his plans are already in place and are proven workable.
Thanks for the clarification on the facts on what Romney said.

when I listened to Romney I first heard nothing, none of it meant anything and often made no sense,he was sweating like crazy and trying to just get by weakly. The most important role, in a federal system is the Commander in Chief. Romney proved he is weak, indecisive and useless as a leader. Simply saying “ditto”, I agree with this guy, but you should vote for me cause I’m white won’t get it, no matter how they spin it today, and have already started. I am going to hope America is smarter than this.

My wife is from a communist country. She can not believe anyone can still support this current regime. How is that Obamacare thing working out so far?? How is the U.N small arms treaty going to work out? Any Demcrats been to the grocery store lately. I miss Bush, at least we afford to eat.

“My wife is from a communist country”
Glad she is here. But your analogy to Obama as communist is hilarious. I would ask you exactly what he has done thats communism, but I am afraid you would be lost for words.
Obamacare depends on the public markets to sell insurance. If thats your attempt to point to communism, then neither you nor your wife has any idea what communism is.
Obamacare is working out just fine.
You want better food prices? Write to the oil companies and ask them why they are charging far more for the diesel it takes to get your food to market than they are gas.
Hilarious!
Joe
Oct. 25th, 2012 at 4:59 pm
So, it’s diesel. wow. Redistribution of wealth sounds clear to me. Thousands of new I.R.S agents, sounds like communism and excess government to me too. Obamacare- my health insurance plan could not accept my family. We had to get separate policies for each family member. Health insurance costs have went up by over $200 a month for my family. Must be the darn oil companies again. How about the previous preffered stock holders who owned G.M. stock. The govenment took away (stole) the shares and gave ownership to the unions. That is communism and tyranny. We have 4 dead Americans who overseas. That is disgusting!!

Food costs more becuase of redistribution of wealth? LOL
You are most certainly lying about Obamacare becuase you cant be refused becuase of pre existing conditons. Obamacare isnt even fully in place yet.
1000′s of new IRSD agents? LOL
BTW, gm wasnt given to the unions. GM stock is still good becuase I have some. You are living on lies and cliches.
4 dead Americans? How about over 6000 dead from Bush? No outrage? No disgust? You are about as up on Libya as you are Obamacare and food prices. Move along, your cliches are easily seen

This is getting a bit boring. Sort of like operating a weed wacker in a grass field.
Apparently, you may have a challenge understanding
clear and terse Dialogue.
Your comment:
“You are most certainly lying about Obamacare becuase you cant be refused becuase of pre existing conditons. Obamacare isnt even fully in place yet.”
I did not say I was “refused”. Please pay attention! I did not “lie”. I was not allowed to have a family plan and I was charged a great deal more because of Obamacare. Simple.
“1000′s of new IRSD agents? LOL.”
This remark of your’s reinforces the point. You have no idea what is happening in America. If you had a job or a business, you would not be ‘laughing out loud’. Nothing funny here. I had a business and have been dealing with the I.R.S. for years.
Thank God, there those of us that fought for your freedom and continue to watch out and try to steer this country to maintain freedom so individuals can hold and express their opinions.

I know exactly what the agents are for and you dont.
You were not charged more because of Obama care. If you were not allowed to have a family plan then you should have looked around. There are tons of new providers popping up. Look into it
1000′s of new IRS agents

I doubt that. Your full of it

Romney mistakenly states a Navy ship count and he is a “liar”. Pathetic, just pathetic. Would not this make Obama a liar??
Roney paid for his education, as did I. Also, Romney’s records are available. Obama ?? Oh, those are sealed. You have to be kidding me.
Liberals are like children. We watch them make foolish mistakes and try to anticipate and clear the path, clean up disasters and love them. America will prevail in spite of the onslought and thankfuly there are still enough sane, smart and good folks who will take care of the fools.

Obama’s records are not sealed. No president in history has told their schools to release the records. You are blathering about nothing.
And so far thats the best you have done
Romney didnt mistakenly miss a ship count. He picked the year thinking no one would look it up. Romney as usual just plain lied

According to the text, Member States renewed their pledge to rid the world of the scourge brought upon it by the illicit manufacture, transfer and circulation of small arms and light weapons, and their excessive accumulation and uncontrolled spread in many parts of the world. They also committed to mobilizing the necessary political will and resources to implement the Programme of Action and the International Tracing Instrument, with the aim of achieving clear and tangible results over the next six years, through 2018.
Further by the text, States emphasized that the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons continued to sustain conflicts, exacerbate armed violence, undermine respect for international humanitarian law and international human rights law, aid terrorism and illegal armed groups, and facilitate increasing levels of transnational organized crime, as well as trafficking in humans, drugs and certain natural resources.
Idiot. Only some one thats uneducated would fall for the nra and GOP lies on this one. Its not even a new treaty.

You are correct, I am full of it. I am a disabled American veteran which gave me experience all over the globe. As far as being “uneducated”, I have a post graduate degree in engineering (graduated top 3 % in the U.S). So sorry to burst your bubble. Additionally, two of my sons are currently in the service.
It is certainly out of the scope here to educate you, but perhaps it may be a good idea to get a perspective outside of the internet and look outside of your basement window. There are also a great number of books available to broaden your perspective and widen your intellect.
As a college professor, you would certainly have a problem keeping up with the rest of the class. Please feel free to comment once again when you have done some homework and have more to offer than just baloney and incongruencies. Your attempt at intellectual discourse was fair, but then ultimately and pathetically failed. Some of your words used were big words, though. Kudos and most impressive.
Again, as a parent and patriot, there are a large number of informed Americans which will think, act and preserve the American way so people can be free to express their opinions. Your opnions are welcome and appreciated, but unfortunately, misguided. No problem, some of us grow up and some do not. Many years ago, I too was a liberal and thought much as you. Life’s lessons opened my eyes. We’ll take care of you and fix the country.
Conservatives built this country and we will fix it for the liberals once again. At least liberals are predictable. Logic, truth, decency and a fair perspective make absolutely no difference to a liberal. I have never met a liberal that can think or change.
Funny and a sad thing here, you learned absolutely nothing. On the other hand, I thank you for a brief entertainment moment. It has been a learning experience.
Try listening to Mark Levine, if you can keep up.
It may be painful though; he moves real fast.

And the sad thing everything you have said is either a cliche or downright false. Easily proven so.
Mark Levine? That explains your inability to be truthful.
I find it hilarious you call others children and you will take care of them and at the same time be filled with cliches.
You cant educate me, I have already proven you wrong too many times. As far as conservatives building the country, that again is laughable.
There hasnt been a war to protect our rights since WW2. You are far too full of yourself.
