This is really huge. In California during the Prop 8 campaign, we expected to garner support from those who voted for President Obama. Unfortunately, the Mormons, Catholics, and evangelicals worked through churches to frighten African Americans using bible prohibitions on homosexuality and although Blacks overwhelmingly supported Obama, they did not support equality. The NAACP support for same-sex marriage (equality and civil rights) may help assuage the perception that gay marriage is a sin. Baby steps…

But that would require thinking…and logical deduction, as in facts, the kind science and math rely upon. Religious belief is not based on fact; it’s based on myth.

This is sooo simple. How the religiously reta*ded keep missing this “big glaring clue”, that these two entities (logic/mythical thinking) that co-exist in human beings are separate, just like humans differentiate
or separate between good and bad; is beyond comprehension.

…”RR” has got to have something to do with cognitive skills required to recognize reality and, the fear (phobia) of intelligent deduction processes.

There are two forces at work here, and they are both separate by design.

The right of gay people to enjoy the same privileges as straight people is constitutional and supersedes any other force in the country. This must be a mandate.

The second force is religious and should not be the source of or carry any laws with it.

The states must recognize gay marriage as a matter of course, however those who have religious beliefs against this do not need to partake in or officiate over gay marriage. And that is the end of it. Life goes on.

The truth is that if the state has the right to deny marriage to consenting, single adults on the basis of gender, the way is legally open to it to deny marriage based on the race or religion of the parties. We could see Loving v. Virginia overturned; we could see worse. A Constitutional amendment to deny rights would most assuredly spark others, and there are too many rabid pea-brains in this country who would jeopardize their own rights just to spite someone they didn’t like. I’m glad to see the NAACP is quite alert to that; we had all better be.
