Nancy Pelosi Goes On Fox News and Obliterates The Video Games Cause Gun Violence Meme
Nancy Pelosi went on Fox News Sunday and absolutely destroyed the false premise that video games, not guns, are the main cause of gun violence.
Video:
WALLACE: Gun control will be a big part of the president’s agenda in the State of the Union address Tuesday night. But I want to ask you about another part of the effort to stop these horrible, repeated acts of mass violence. As part of your plan, you call for more scientific research on the connection between popular culture and violence.
We don’t need another study, respectfully. I mean, we know that these video games, where people have their heads splattered, these movies, these TV shows, why don’t you go to your friends in Hollywood and challenge them, shame them, and say, “Knock it off”?
PELOSI: Well, I do think, whatever we do, because when you talk about evidence-based, we have that throughout our proposal. In other words, we don’t want to just anecdotally writing bills. We want to have the evidence to say –
WALLACE: Well, I’m not sure you want to write bills anyway. But don’t you — I mean, what would — you have a lot of friends in Hollywood. Why don’t you go to them and publicly say I think challenge you to stop the video games?
PELOSI: I do think — see, I understand what you’re saying. I’m a mother, I’m a grandmother. But, they tell — not they, not Hollywood, but the evidence says that, in Japan, for example, they have the most violent games and the rest, and the lowest — death, mortality from guns. I don’t know what the explanation is for that except they may have good gun laws.
But I think you took one piece of it. We are talking about — we are talking about stop — no further sales of assault weapons. What is the justification for an assault weapon? You know, no further sales of those.
No further sales of the increased capacity, 30 rounds in a gun. We are talking about background checks which is very popular, even among gun owners, and, hunters. We avow the First Amendment, we stand with that, and say that people have a right to have a gun to protect themselves in their homes and their jobs, whatever. And that they — and their workplace — and that they, for recreation and hunting and the rest.
But we are in the questioning their right to do that —
Doing an interview on Fox News must be a lot like talking to small child. Pelosi actually had to explain to Wallace why it is important to have evidence of a problem before a bill is written to address it. Wallace’s notion of “knowing” why a problem is occurring without research or study is a very Republican way of governing. It is just like how Republicans “know” that there is voter fraud, so they pass voter ID laws.
Pelosi ripped apart the NRA’s favorite excuse that guns don’t cause gun violence, but video games do. Pelosi asked a good question. If violent video games cause gun violence, then why isn’t the problem as severe around the world as it is in the United States? They play lots of violent video games in Canada, Europe, and Asia too, yet other parts of the developed world don’t have the same level of gun violence as the United States.
The difference, as Leader Pelosi pointed out, is the laws. The Japanese play lots of violent video games, but they have the lowest mortality rate from gun violence because of strict gun laws. The NRA has been trying to muddy the gun violence discussion by mixing it up with the discussion about the culture of violence in this country. They aren’t the same thing.
Conservatives and the NRA are trying to avoid the very common sense conclusion that the one thing every incident of gun violence has in common with the other is guns. If the goal is to reduce violence, video games belong in that discussion, but it is impossible to talk about gun violence without including the role of guns.
Nancy Pelosi showed Fox News and the NRA why the whole blame the violent video games excuse isn’t going to fly.

I thought it was Marilyn Mason that caused kids to shoot other kids?
No wait, wasn’t it comic books?
No wait, it was rap music!
No wait, its violent movies.
I really wished they would just make up my mind.

Until the NRA becomes the advocate of safe usuage, sane laws that are allowed to be enforced, and stops telling the government that it cannot do or publish studies regarding gun violence, THEY are the problem. And until the GOP stops being their pimps, THEY are the problem. Guns kill. Sorry, NRA, guns kill. It is not science. It is not a liberal ploy to take away your ‘toys.’ It is the truth, and it’s about time you act like adults, admit it, and help solve the problems you have helped create. Or not..an we will do ti for you, as liberals always have to do.

If Anyone Out There is Dumb-Enough to Be Thinking of Diving, Head-First into the “Deep-End” of “Any” of the Republican Party, Fox-News, Rt.Wing (Mind-Set), “Brain-Pools”(Without First Verifying their “True” Depth); You should be “Warned” that when You Do Get To the Bottom of their “Brain-Pools” You may be Abruptly Shocked (If You Survive) at How Truly “Shallow” they Really are. Some Don’t Recover; they “Lose Their Minds”(For Lack of a Better Term) and “Never” Re-Surface. The Ones Who have been Lured into the Shallow Ends of the Rt. Wing Brain-Pools by the Rush’s and the Beck’s are being Spoon-Fed So Much Bull-Shit (Which is what they “thrive”on) that they will never Leave the Pool without a Fight. Its always Better to “Look Before You Leap”(Into a Political Realm). In my opinion.

You Forgot To Capitalize The First Letters Of A Few Words, There. But That’s Okay, Because Putting A Capital Letter At The Beginning Of Every Word Just Makes Your Comment Hard To Read.

Have you noticed directly below the Post Comment button on this site; Notice: Comments which contain too many CAPITAL LETTERS will be automatically modified to standard sentence case. I used to use only CAPITAL LETTERS in my previous posts on this site; and then noticed one day that they had all been modified to standard sentence case. I did not discover the notice until a week or so later and I believe that I may have had something to do with that. If that’s the case I’m trying to “conform” (cant you tell). Catching ones “drift” on their post is the main thing; in my opinion. Thanks for the advice. Advice to you; Visit the Scare-Crow in Oz when you get time; so he can fill you in on the matter of dumb. Its hard to be humble at times (you know) but necessary for peace and understanding to occur. Follow the Yellow Brick Road “Just A Dumb Fire Man”; and carry a full bucket of water to pour on any witches who may impede your progress. The Scare-Crow is the Wizard now I hear; and he went to Oz seeking only a brain. That shows there is hope for all of us. Farewell. Now its time to get back to Kansas and the real-world problems.

Please, Phooey, all we’re saying is, try to write in a style that is easy to read. Idiosyncratic capitalization gets in the way of the message.

I almost forgot; while you are in “Oz”, go visit the “Tin-Man”. Maybe you two can give each other some pointers in the use of axes. You may be able to teach each other a thing or two. Always good to keep an open mind and learn something new and not be like a lot of the Republican folks back home in Kansas and the rest of the country. They are the dumb ones. In my opinion.

She “obliterated” the video game violence question? I think not. Look Pelosi had an embarrassing interview and states such nonsense as “evidence based” information on gun violence… really, she wants evidence based information on gun violence? No they don’t because the evidence shows only 3% of gun violence is caused by assault weapons, a bad name for guns, and 95% of the gun violence is caused by handguns, 75% of which is criminals killing other criminals, and guns kill less than drunk drivers. Evidence shows that a ban on assault weapons is unjustified, period. I would say that some 15 yrs ago Hillary, Tipper Gore and other Democrats instituted ratings on music and violent games cause they are teaching kids to kill and you know what? I agree. Games show such violence today its scary. Movies and TV show just insane amounts of gore and sex that our society is clearly desensitized to it. I’m sorry, but she was protecting Hollywood while vilifying gun and gun owners. Track the rise in violent video game sales with mass shootings… there’s your “evidence based” data. Again, look at the FBI gun violence data and then tell me assault weapons are the problem and don’t start with, why do you need one? Guess what? You don’t need SUV but you own one, heck you don’t need a car either, think of the planet and kids, but you own one and vehicles are a privilege not a God given right like the 2nd amendment.

first of all, the right to own a gun is not a God-given right. That shows a certain level of stunningly stupid thinking. Your God-given rights are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. you may notice that life is among those writes that God would want you to have.
Assault style weapons kill lots of people in a very short period of time. And I am sure that you wont miss them in time

I really think that these types of conversations are silly until they start including the same restrictions on local, county, and state para-military organizations (PDs, SDs, Troopers).

First off, sometimes Fox News can be its own worst enemy. Or all the time, depending on a persons point of view Ms. Pelosi going on what I call Fools News is actually a stroke of genious on her part. After all, where else to illustrate what it takes to bring a bill to the floor.
It’s not just writing the thing, it’s geting it into committee, voted on by same, going to the floor, the other floor and then a reconciliation bill, with another two votes. And there must be facts, or at least a semblance of same, to back up that same.
Seems to me that the people at Fools News missed Government, American History and Civics while attending whatever school they went to. Unless of course, that person or persons, were homeschooled. Then all bets are off since books that refute a belief system are of course not used.
Actually, Ms. Pelosi gave a pretty good description of what it really takes to do anything, given the right circumstances, of being a member of Congress, either house.
And while I’m at it, although I disagree with his politics, I know John McCain personally and congratulate him for refusing to boycott the vote on Chuck Hagel. A Republican with a tad bit of sense? Remarkable.

No one can tell me that constant exposure to violence, whether it’s a video gam or movie does not contribute to one’s sensitivity!!!!Blood and guts spilling all over becomes matterof fact. What are the stats for murders before video games and extreme violence in the theatre?
