Fox News Launches a Smear Campaign Accusing Joe Biden of Being a Drunk
Led by Sean Hannity and Mike Huckabee, Fox News is engaging in a smear campaign by claiming that Joe Biden was drunk during the vice presidential debate.
Here is the video of Hannity via Media Matters:
Transcript of Hannity with Mitch McConnell,
HANNITY: I noticed that you guys were giving away bourbon to people over here.
SEN. MITCH MCCONNELL (R-KY): It’s the home of bourbon.
HANNITY: I wonder if Joe had some before the debate.
In case you thought that was an isolated incident, Mike Huckabee repeated the Biden drinking line on Fox News today:
Huckabee said, “Well, I thought Joe Biden came across like a guy that you meet at a cocktail party or some political event. An obnoxious drunk who’s loud and boisterous, and interrupts every conversation. He just is the kind of guy that you want to get away from.”
Lesser Fox News personalities like Greg Gutfeld and Eric Bolling took to their Twitter accounts to claim that Biden was either drinking or drunk. What makes this personal smear particularly tasteless is that due to a family history of alcoholism, Joe Biden doesn’t drink at all. In October 2008, The New York Times reported, “Senator Biden does not drink at all, and he is frank about the reason. ‘There are enough alcoholics in my family,’ he said last month as he sipped cranberry juice on a train ride from Washington to Wilmington.”
Fox News and the rest of the right can’t handle the fact that Joe Biden absolutely destroyed their anointed intellectual golden boy Paul Ryan on ideas and substance.
Notice that the Romney campaign, the Republican Party, and their media outlets aren’t talking about Paul Ryan today. Rep. Ryan was so bad in the debate that they are trying to do damage control by attacking Vice President Biden.
Just when Republicans started feeling good about the election again, Joe Biden stepped up to the plate and exposed every single weakness in the Romney/Ryan ticket. Biden hit the ticket’s connection to the unpopular Republican House, wildly unpopular positions on Social Security and Medicare, a lack of specifics, a tax plan that would benefit the wealthy, their weakness on foreign policy, and the fact that they have a general disdain for 30%-47% of the population.
It would have been easier for Republicans today if Ryan would have made a gaffe that they could explain away. The reality is that Joe Biden set the stage for the total dismantling of the Romney/Ryan ticket, and most importantly the agenda it is advocating for. Biden’s message was extremely populist and popular, so Fox News is trying to discredit the messenger.
Spewing hateful falsehoods against the vice president can’t erase the fact that it wasn’t just Paul Ryan who lost last night. In the wake of the VP debate, the biggest loser of all is the Republican agenda.

They need to hitch up their lacy garters and act like men.
ENOUGH of this stuff.

I’m proud that Biden upheld his end and as ever took the lower than low – gutter route and demonstrated outright indignity, arrogance, vicious, ruthless countenance and wholesale disrespect before the American people including Paul Ryan. After all, Joe’s a raging liberal.

“outright indignity, arrogance, vicious, ruthless countenance and wholesale disrespect . . .”
Oh, John John . . .
How many times over the last four years has Congressman Ryan been asked for his birth certificate?
When you have that figure, get back to me on “indignity, arrogance, viciousness, and wholesale disrespect” . . .

Huckabee is an arrogant self righteous extremist. Remember this was a debate for BIG boys, NOT a cocktail or tea party.

Well, if he was drunk, the neurons still capable of firing were more than sufficient with which to to mop the floor with his opponent.
The story line that Biden is some sort of crazy doddering old gaffe-prone uncle seems to be part of our news culture but it’s far from the truth. The guy is smart, well-informed, decent and passionate, one of the most intelligent voices I’ve heard in Washington. He would have made an excellent President.

When we “lost” it was because of lies and cheating. And we were “bad sports” for pointing out all the lies. Since they know Biden didn’t lie and didn’t cheat, all they can do is create more, weak, really sad and pathetic lies.
Here’s something: a “drunk” guy cleaned your “sober” guy’s clock—-that says worse things about L’il Mister Congressman than it does the VEEP.

Anyone who regularly watches FOX news already believes the worst about the VP. FWIW, would anyone be able to tell if Hannity or McConnell were drunk? They just spit out gibberish anyway.

This is really starting to get disgusting. These people know that Joe Biden does not drink, yet they ignore Rinse Pubis being drunk at the RNC whilst proclaiming “President Obama’s never run a company. He hasn’t even run a garage sale or seen the inside of a lemonade stand.”

Hey Hucksterbee, I think the guy we want to stay away from is your sickass buddy Ted ShitMYPantsToAvoidtheDraft Nugent.
McCONnell is a sick turd and Hannitty the Manatee is a frigging joke. In any case, your lousy pair of cretins are going to lose and RobMe will have to put his hopes in the garage with his cars.

Cons hate it when Democrats adopt con tactics. It was okay for Myth to debate like he was drunk on spiked Red Bull.
Maybe the best way to convince authoritarians what awful little creatures they are is for everyone to behave like them.
They hate seeing their behavior in others. Which means they really hate themselves.
People who hate themselves are so swift at ridiculing others. Ironically, they’re pros at projection by, for example, claiming that the Democrats are dividing the country, running attack ads (there’s a difference between an ad that tell a lie and an ad that tells the truth that hurts). We never hear, though, how or why cons are wonderful and helpful to the country.
Dems need to keep telling the facts about how, no matter what Romney and Ryan say, these Republicans’ have been historically voting against the middle class, the poor, the military, teachers, and firefighters. And kids, too.

Well, Huck — if you’re referring to Biden (who doesn’t drink) as “an obnoxious drunk,” I wonder what you call a sitting US President downing a pisco sour at an international conference:

I find it sad when dems new President Obama bombed in the debate last week our side pointed it out. The right can’t do the same. So they smear that always plays well in their party. I am so glad Biden took the fight to him. I read a twit that said “it wasn’t a debate, it was a snuff film”. Right to the point for sure. Obama/Biden2012. Women of america wake the hell up your rights are going to be stamped out. Seniors pay attention Ryan is an extremist. He wants you to lose your benefits you earned.

No way he was drunk. If he was, he would have had more Irish come out than he did. That would include punching the ryan punk square in the face after screaming expletives only a sailor should hear. This is a sign that the right is back to panic mode. Obama better bring it next week. This is getting down to a two games series.

The lack of respect by these idiots is astounding!!! Joe Biden beat that kid like a drum, so now he must have been drunk!!!?. I think not, what Joe Biden is, is a extremely accomplished politician who’s been a Washington insider for 40 years. Sure he makes gaffe’s,but that makes him real, not some stife ass like Mitt Romney. There is nothing that he hasn’t seen or heard in Washington. When the President selected him as his VP, I could not think of better mentor. There workmanship is only suplemented by there obvious close friendship that we haven’t seen between a President and the Vice President in a long, long time. The Republicans absolutely hate this very telling fact.

I think many on the right are upset about the debate mainly because, imo, it represented the death of several Ryan myths–myths that republicans and Fox News have sold to millions of Americans that Paul Ryan is a “policy wonk,” a “deficit buster,” a “RW intellectual of the highest caliber,” a “budget guru,” and a “numbers guy.” All of these went down in flames on national TV last night, and based on the RW reaction, this doesn’t set well with them. Oh, well, this is what happens sometimes when myth meets reality.

What an incompetent smear.
For anyone who takes it seriously, it means that Ryan lost his ass to a drunk, old man. Boy Wonder, indeed; that’s the caliber of the GOP’s deep thinking policy wonk?
