Obama Demands Real Answers from Romney About Bain
By: Jason EasleyJul. 13th, 2012more from Jason Easley
President Obama is putting more pressure on Mitt Romney as he is demanding that the Republican nominee answer questions about Bain and take responsibility for his company.
Here is the video from WJLA:
SCOTT THUMAN: What about Bain Capital? It’s a big issue for the past 24 hours right now. Mitt Romney’s campaign says he left in ’99, yours says it’s 2000, there’s a significant difference, is he being dishonest with the American public?
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Well, here’s what I know, we were just talking about responsibility and as president of the United States, it’s pretty clear to me that I’m responsible for folks who are working in the federal government and you know, Harry Truman said the buck stops with you.
Now, my understanding is the Mr. Romney attested to the SEC, multiple times, that he was the chairman, CEO and president of Bain Capital and I think most Americans figure if you are the chairman, CEO and president of a company that you are responsible for what that company does.
Ultimately Mr. Romney, I think, is going to have to answer those questions, uh because if he aspires to being president one of the things you learn is, you are ultimately responsible for the conduct of your operations, but again that’s probably a question that he’s going to have to answer and I think that’s a legitimate part of the campaign.
SCOTT THUMAN: And you think he should answer that soon?
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Yeah, absolutely.
The Romney people were so worried about the impact that these recent Bain revelations are having that they sent their candidate out for five different underwhelming television interviews. The interviews themselves were nothing more than a repetition of a denial that he was really in charge, and negative attacks against President Obama.
What’s was missing in the Romney interviews was any actual evidence that he wasn’t in charge. Voters can see the SEC forms that state Romney was in charge when he says that he wasn’t, so where is the proof that he wasn’t in charge? The Romney campaign hasn’t provided it. The candidate hasn’t offered it. Where is it?
This issue is not going away, and Romney might have dug himself in deeper with his on camera denials. If the Obama campaign has more proof that Romney was still running his company from 1999-2002, the GOP nominee will be ruined.
Obama is defining Romney. The Republican nominee is a puppet on the president’s strings. Obama is setting the agenda. The president is dictating the news cycle, and he is successfully defining Mitt Romney. The president wouldn’t have demanded that Romney answer questions about Bain if he didn’t already know where this is going.
This is only phase one of the Obama campaign’s information roll out on Romney, and they have already deeply wounded the Republican nominee. Romney still hasn’t come up with a clear answer about his investments, company, and tax returns.
If the president heard Romney’s answers tonight, he like the American people probably wasn’t very impressed or satisfied.

Romney made his time at Bain the centerpiece of his campaign and told Americans that his business experience is what would make him an “ideal” president. It sounded good, and many on the right bought his rhetoric, but the information that has come out about what Romney was really doing at Bain, has him on the ropes and widening his media exposure. IMO, Romney’s media tour this afternoon didn’t help him at all because he repeated the same lies while knowing that “Vanity Fair,” “The Boston Globe,” and “The Washington Post” have revealed that he was involved in making deals for Bain after 1999.

If they destroy him too much, too soon, the GOP could pull a switcheroo and replace him with an unvetted dark horse at the Convention. Best to be just a hair delicate until his nomination’s official.

actually i wouldn’t worry about shooting the silver bullet too soon.. this election is not going to be a zero sum game, our soundbites against their soundbites… what you are seeing is a carefully orchestrated narrative.. unlike the Republicans who have relied on talking points, the Obama team has embarked on an educational campaign.
look for further probings into not only Romney’s practices, but venture capitalism in general.. the Bully Pulpit will educate in ways that OWS never could.. if sucessfull (and early results are positive)look for a sweeping mandate with coat tails that take in Elizabeth Warren, and others down ticket, saving the senate and taking back the house..
sorry for any dyslexic mis spellings

I would have had some respect for Mr. Romney if he had just admitted he was the owner, President and CEO of the company when the outsourcing of jobs occurred. The “buck does stop here”…especially receiving a salary of millions. Nor was it a new “idea” to raise capital. He was very active when outsourcing occurred prior to 1999, from what I have read.

Mitt Romney does not have leadership qualities, and his defensiveness on Bain bears this fact out. It’s such an irony that his leadership at Bain was supposed to highlight the qualities that would make him a good presidential candidate, but is turning out to be the “bane” of his existence. This is the case of the chickens coming home to roost for the GOP. For years, they have won elections by appealing to hatred, fear, and ignorance. Now, when their candidate is getting a taste of what he and others have been giving to GOP opponents in primaries and Democratic ones in general elections, they can’t deal with it.

If I were the Obama campaign, I would use all his statements and documents on file. Then add the clip where he told the people in Ma. that he was still flying from Utah to meetings with Bain when he had problems getting on the ballot for the governors race. Surely even the tin foilers would have to think twice after seeing that clip.

You will never sway the rabid right, but the independents and uncommitted are seeing the Romney camp come apart like a cheap suit. Their explanations keep getting further and further from anything remotely credible and all they are doing is confirming the worst suspicions of anyone capable of asking the right questions. The Obama campaign is right in pushing this to the limit. Romney has convicted himself and he has no where to go with this.
Can you imagine what Obama would do to him if the debates were held today?

As far as Romney hesitation to comment on the Olympic uniforms being made in China, could it be that when he was involved in the Utah games he had uniforms made in Burma?
There must be something really bad in those tax returns, it has been suggested by Huntsman’s daughter
that he would drop out of the running rather than release them.
