Obama Drops the Hammer on Mitt Romney’s Lies
By: Jason EasleyApr. 13th, 2012more from Jason Easley
In an interview with Telemundo, President Obama dropped the hammer and served notice to Mitt Romney that his lies will not go unchallenged.
According to Reuters, when the president was asked by Telemundo about Romney’s claim that 92% of the people who lost their jobs in this recession were women, he said, “Everybody who’s looked at this claim knows it’s bogus. What he doesn’t mention obviously is that all these job losses, both men and women, took place as a consequence of the worst financial crisis and the worst economic crisis that we’ve seen since the Great Depression,” he continued. “They’re a direct result of the policies he wants to go back to, and I think the American people understand that.”
What is making headlines is that President Obama directly knocked down a Romney lie, but it is the second part of what he said that is just as interesting. In general terms Obama has tied the Republican Party, the GOP members of Congress, and their presidential candidates to the policies of the past. What was different this time was that he came close to connecting Mitt Romney to the policies of George W. Bush.
Romney’s 92% statistic is based on a severe cherry picking of the jobs data, but the AP fact checker pointed out something interesting, “Women were more heavily represented in jobs that suffered in the recession’s later months and beyond, as revenue-strapped state and local governments laid off teachers and cut other public-sector workers.”
The hypocrisy is that while Romney claims Obama has cost women their jobs, the policy that actually caused the job losses for women at the state level has been endorsed by Mitt Romney. The presumed Republican nominee is trying to have it both ways. While he embraces Republicans in states like Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin whose policies caused many of the layoffs among women, he is trying to blame Obama for the fact that those same women have lost their jobs.
The strategy that Romney is using is coming straight out of Karl Rove’s playbook. He is making up simple bogus statistics, while at the same time running a relentlessly negative campaign against President Obama. If all of this sounds familiar, it should. The 2004 Bush reelection campaign used the same tactics against John Kerry.
What the Republicans are about to find out is that Barack Obama is not John Kerry. Obama is not going to let the lies of the Republican candidate go unchallenged. Republicans will try to use Citizens United to swift boat Obama on an epic scale, but Obama will be ready. If this week is any indication, Mitt Romney may be the first nominee to get desperate in a general election campaign before he has even clinched the nomination.
Obama not only pushed back on an obvious distortion, he did something much more significant. He tied the out of touch one percenter to the policies of a former Republican president that is still disliked and blamed for crashing the economy.
Mitt Romney can make up all the numbers he wants, but nothing can wash the stink of George W. Bush off of him. From now until November, the president will not let a moment go by without reminding voters that a vote for Mitt Romney is a vote for the return of George W. Bush.

I would certainly hope for a more aggressive Obama than we saw in the 2008 debates. This is what he needs to do and to continue doing.

If President Obama had shown aggressiveness in 2008, the Repubs would have lied on him, and labeled him an angry Black man. We know who he is, he has been our president for over 3 years, so the Repubs can’t lie on him now.

I agree! Romney has been lying for months about any and everything and the president should not continue to let that stuff go unchallenged!

Romney is a fine example of a quote from Soccrates. “When the debate is lost, Slander becomes the tool of the loser”.

Hmmm… let’s see. Women are supposed to be at home taking care of the kiddies according to their worldview, and yet he’s expressing dislike or anger because supposedly 92% of the lost jobs were those held by women?
Cognitive dissonance there!!! That does NOT compute! (GRIN!)
If that statistic were true, according to their belief systems, it should be a good thing!

I love President Obama. He is running against someone who has to consult with his wife on women’s issues. They try to turn the war on women back on the Dems, but we all know better. All the laws that have come out in the states the Koch brothers bought do nothing but surpress women and their bodies and their decisions (laws written by ALEC). They want to drag religion into the election and push their form of it on the rest of us. Separation of church and state is so vital. I do not care what religion anyone chooses. Just please, do not push it down my throat and I will do the same for you. There is a thing called common decency and the Repubs have a huge lack of it. I’m an adult, I think for myself, I should be able to control decisions that affect my own body. They want to take that decision away from me and I really don’t like it. Please leave contraception, abortion, religion and money (Koch brothers and other PACs out of it.

It truly never ceases to just befuddle me when I see this type of thing. Major head shaking. Alan West says this, I saw the video when he did, and people just hang on his every word. He’s so insidiously evil I cannot even comprehend the depths.

81, not 80! Get yer’ facts straight, gol’darn ya!
What’s wrong with West “channeling” McCarthy in every manner? I say we should start calling him “Gunner West”! (eh, not bad…)
In the proverbial “nutshell”, McCarthy was a bottom of the barrel republican looking to gain some ground and popularity…so he went and spoke to a “ladies” group in the south and held up some papers that were supposed to be list of communist infiltrators…as I recall, after the “speech” a reporter asked McCarthy to see the infamous list, but by the time he went to the hotel to see it, Joe was gone and on to the next whistle stop with the same “stack of papers”.
The papers contained nothing but some notes on his speech, not a list of names. I believe the “notes” are in his museum in some small town. And here we are today, “Gunner West” channeling Gunner Jow all over again…I guess it’s just West “karma” or something…

What the f**k are YOU smokin’??? You’ve listened to that maniac Alan West again. HE is the friggin’ communist with his revolutionary leaning to destroy the US.
But then, you righties will be sent to th eback of the bus come November – and maybe kicked off at the next stop.

Actually, I hope and pray that West keeps it up and that the rest of his tea party fanatics start to echo him. That will certainly expose their maniacal treacherous minds to the voters who will relieve them from duty in November (the same was West from relived from his Marine commission for issuing illegal orders, abusing his troop who werved beneath him, and for his racism).

I think the President is now bringing the ferocity he demonstrates on the basketball court into his role as CEO of the USA. He DOES NOT want to let the Republicans — and especially an obvious weakling opponent — win in November. He cares too much for his country. And he hates liars!

So this is round 2 of the GOTP circus act. One thing to remember is that while families are generally off limits, when a candidate’s family speaks out for the relative, then any comment they put out is fair game for comment/debate. I% of !% isn’t very much, and that is what MR is right about now. In terms of significance, then that should put him at about 0.001% worth of notice to Americans?
The big expenditures are a result of Bush. The bailouts started with a Bush bailout of banks, and they partied hearty when the windfall blew in. None of that money went to help the people who lost their homes; in fact, losses increased. What does Mittens have to say about that?

Have you ever had the pleasure of being engaged by young missionaries of his religion? They are worse than used car salesmen; they are put on the streets for 2 years to sell, sell, sell any line of bullshit they can think of to evangelize or convert anything that moves. How do you think you would turn out if you had to act like that for two years straight?
(It wouldn’t phase me if me they stood there and chant Hare Krishna if they though it would work…)

I have a “no soliciting” sign on my property. Romney wanna-be’s are the ONLY ones who violate the sign. I knew an off duty police officer was visiting a neighbor 2 doors down, and I saw him outside.flagged him over when the were on my property. I had them charged with misdemeanor trespassing.
Oh the argument they had with the officer! Officer said, politely, the sign “rules” – no soliciting, and preaching/reaching out for “their religion” was soliciting, period.
Officer told me after he gave them the paperwork that he was surprised they even spoke out/argued. Apparently, the local church (less than 1/10 of a mile away) was not happy & tried to get the officer fired for doing his duty. Church was promptly put on notice “no soliciting signs rule” – whether on individual property or at entry into a whole community.
Haven’t heard a peep from ‘em in over 1.5 yrs, and neither have any of my neighbors!

Ha ha your comment reminds me of when I was young and my parents used to take the train from Oakland to Chicago to visit my grandparents and we used to stop in Utah and the Mormons would come on and try to convert us. My parents were very light skinned blacks who could pass for white. My Father and Mother would tell them they were black and they ran away so fast! I was very young and vaguely remember it but it was a funny story in our family about Mormons and how aggressive they were.

This reminds me of something I read about Romney awhile ago. There was a woman from his church who was pregnant out of wedlock and since he was their bishop or a similar title, she went to him for advice. He told her she should give up the child for adoption. When he saw her a few weeks later, he said something about it and she said there was no way she could give up her child. He just walked away from her and wouldn’t speak to her again. Several years later when she saw him running for Governor, she was impressed by his stance on women, abortion, etc. She ran into him at a rally and congratulated him on his change of heart. He told her that he hadn’t had a change of heart but the church elders had told him that it was OK to lie in order to succeed in politics because it would help spread the Mormon religion. Talk about sick, not to mention downright scary, these people are nuts! Lying for religion is something I’ve heard repeatedly about Mormons since Mitt started running so I’m sure she was telling the truth. The church didn’t count on the rest of the country remembering his earlier positions and how he has apparently flip-flopped on them in order to get elected. Will he try to swing to the middle for the general election, as in the etch-a-sketch candidate? I think Gingrich is going to stay in just to annoy the hell out of him. All the better for President Obama. Romney gets easily flustered when confronted. He’s not used to being questioned, not at home or at work. When President Obama challenges him during debates, he’ll lose his temper for sure. Can’t wait to see him crumble into little pieces when the President is finished with him and his lies.

Willard Romney is definitely a sick puppy, and your story about how he lied to this young woman is anything but reassuring. Back in 2008, I thought he was merely boring, but the campaign of 2012 has been extremely revealing in reference to this man’s true character. He is power-hungry, devoid of empathy, and has a willingness to tell outrageous lies because to him, the end justifies the means. It’s truly frightening because it tells me what kind of president he would be, and that’s not something anyone should want.

His “church” teaches that lying “for God” is a good thing. I don’t remember their specific arguments, but it’s very similar to the “Heavenly deception” practiced by another cult, and the “Lying for God” practiced by the dominionist churches. If it’s done for religious sake, then it’s accepted practice.
I suggest reading about the “White Horse Prophesy” on Leah’s blog.
godsownparty.com/blog/201...
The Mormons are after the presidency for religious reasons, same as the dominionists. We need to get that information out, especially the thing about the “White Horse Prophesy”. I’m sure that all of the “Good Christians” will really LOVE that.

Get money out of our government Simple
A. Fed Fund Election–6 months-3 primary 3 general–debate a week=12-=adequate to evaluate candidates
No $$$$
B. Since members of Congress and White House will need no campaign money BAN them from receiving anything with a financial value
C. Progressive FLAT tax by group–no deductions burn tax book

I never heard of a “progressive” flat tax, and every “flat tax” I’ve ever seen has really been regressive. That sounds suspiciously like something from a libertarian.
Government funding of elections… that could be a good thing, especially with the limits on the campaigning. They’re supposed to be working for the people, not trying to get more votes.
Banning politicians from receiving gifts with resalable value… that sounds like a good idea!

Political Carnival has a video of Romney when he was running for the senate saying people must recognize the fact that Moms and Dads both must go out to work to maintain a household.
Of course that would not apply to Anne Romney – she grew up in the lap of luxury with maids even then.
