Obama Leads Romney in 14 of 16 Swing State Polls Released Today
By: Jason EasleyNov. 2nd, 2012more from Jason Easley
Did Hurricane Sandy shift momentum to Obama? From New Hampshire to Colorado, President Obama leads Mitt Romney in 13 of the 15 polls released today with two polls showing ties.
As we head into the final weekend of campaigning, it looks like momentum is moving towards the incumbent. In Colorado, the Reuters/Ipsos poll of the state shows the candidates tied, 46%-46%. A PPP poll of the state has Obama leading Romney, 50%-46%, and a Denver Post/SurveyUSA poll has Obama leading Romney, 47%-45%. Reuters/Ipsos has Obama leading Romney 48%-46% in Florida, and a Gravis poll has Obama leading Romney 49%-45% in Iowa. Republican and Democratic pollsters both agree that Obama leads Michigan. Republican pollster Rasmussen has Obama leading Romney 52%-47%, and Democratic pollster PPP has Obama leading in Michigan, 52%-46%. A new Mellman poll has Obama leading Romney 50%-44% in Nevada, and a New England College poll shows Obama leading Romney 50%-44% in New Hampshire.
President Obama leads Mitt Romney in three of the four new polls of Ohio. Obama leads Romney 50%-47% in the latest CNN/ORC poll, 47%-45% in the Reuters/Ipsos poll, and 50%-46% in the We Ask America poll. Republican pollster Rasmussen has Ohio tied at 49%-49%. In Virginia, Obama leads Romney 48%-45% according to Reuters/Ipsos, and 49%-48% in the We Ask America poll. Mitt Romney was hoping to turn Wisconsin red, but according to We Ask America, Obama holds a seven point lead over Romney 52%-45%.
What should be very troubling to Republicans is that of the 16 swing state polls taken Obama is at 50% or better in eight of them. Mitt Romney is not over 50% in any of today’s polls. Another three polls on the list have Obama at 49%. This means that in 11 of the 16 polls released today Barack Obama is either one point away from, or at 50% or better.
It is important to remember that these polls are only indicators of which way the political winds are blowing. They aren’t evidence of victory. In fact, President Obama holds small, but significant leads in most of these polls. If voters don’t come out and vote, small polling leads can transform into losses without supporters casting their ballots.
However, the consensus within these polls suggests that momentum is on the president’s side. The trendline will become more visible over the final weekend of polling, but it is very possible that voters are following their electoral historical precedent and moving towards the incumbent as the election approaches.
So far, that late breaking wave that the Romney campaign is counting on hasn’t materialized.
Early voting may be putting Iowa and Nevada out of reach for Romney. Obama is piling up enough of a margin during Ohio’s early voting that Romney will require at least 53% of the election day vote in order to be competitive in the state. To put Romney’s task in Ohio in perspective, the Republican will have to improve on his current poll performance by 4-8 points to even have a chance at winning the state.
We’ll see on Tuesday if Obama’s excellent performance after Hurricane Sandy gave him extra momentum heading into election day, but it is becoming clear that while Romney is limping towards the finish line, Obama is surging into the final weekend of the 2012 campaign.

I also hope so. But it makes me nervous that Romney just isn’t bothering with the media, the stories of electronic booths possibly being tampered with and other things. Last night some company called zebo.com flashed take a poll for the vote so I did. I of course voted Obama it gave me back the results saying Romney had 69% and Obama 31% out of over 1,000,000 people. Now hopefully this was a skewed vote and considering one of the questions asked how to balance the budget-but didn’t give the option of both raising taxes AND cutting spending; it obviously was a Republican sponsered vote. I’M also really scared about the results, I think the future of this country depends on it. No actually I’m SURE the future of this country depends on it.

I guess Hurricane Sandy was the October surprise the MSM and Repubs kept talking about though I think they were expecting some Obama scandal which would improve Romney’s chances. Never tempt or mock the fates or wish for bad/evil things, God is more powerful.

Obama will win if everyone gets out to vote, and brings everyone they know to the polls. Equally as important is Congress and state legislatures, which need to be wrested from ALEC control.

This mad..Romney is Shakespeare’s Richard III. He is a disaster waiting to happen. I hope America will not allow that I hope those Republican secretaries of state follow their concience and allow the person duly elected to ascend to the throne. Romney is a shameless liar and his wife and kids should dis-associated themselves…their gains so far are illgotten!

I agree completely with your comment, but I would also add that people should be prepare to stand in long lines (anywhere between 1 & 4 hours wait)… If you are bring a elderly person make sure to bring water, portable chair, make sure you have cell phone handy with contact number in case of any problems at your polling place, (pending on the weather) dress accordingly, disability person find out if their are special assisted to cast their ballots..
The best way to combat repubs. is to be inform.. Because they are counting on you to discourage and walking away. Don’t give them that power..

Always vote as early as you can. I voted a week ago.

Unfortunately, Shiva, in the wonderful states of Pennsylvania, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, New York, Minnesota, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, there is either no early voting, or an excuse to vote by absentee vote. I believe that all states should have early voting. I would have loved to be able to say that I have already voted. I truly hope that there are more Republicans out there who see through the lies that Romney and Ryan are spewing, and we get a Democrat majority in Congress. The past 4 years of Republicans blocking and filibustering so many of the policies that Obama and the Democrats have tried to pass is getting really old. All in an effort to make Obama a “one-term president”.

I understand that there are states that have no early voting. And that is a pity. This is a federal situation in which the law should allow for voting at least three weeks before the election day and all states. The right to suppress the vote must be taken away from the states, as this is absolutely good example of why the states should not have power over certain things. And no circumstances does voter suppression reflect the views of the people of the state, nor are the representatives of the state reflecting the views of the people they represent.

This can’t be right! Reverend Al Sharpton just showed an ECV map produced by Karl Rove that has Romney with over 300 ECVs. I guess he has to do what he has always done-change reality to fit a RW perspective.

i have a bad feeling the results will be rigged to favour the lying Mitt, if this article is correct and the real people do vote than great coz here in Dubai people donot like the Romney/Ryan ticket coz they fear they will start a war with Iran which is very close to the UAE.

I hope that the monitors in certain states do a good job of preventing the obstructors from doing the damage they are there to do by interfering with people’s right to vote. These leads will be meaningful only if they translate into actual votes that give the election to Obama-Biden. This is good news, but the best news will be for me to learn that Willard Romney’s dreams of attaining the presidency will be thwarted for good.

We have received good news from the pollsters.
But it is important to remember the election is not over until Tuesday.
If it is close and the absentee ballots matter, it might not be over until Decemeber.
Therefore, it is imperative that everyone make that last $$$ contribution to Team Obama or spend some time at local Dem HQ and call neighbors out to vote.
The Obama vote is there. The majority are sick to death of conservative talk radio, bosses at work and public figure with power pushing them around.
On November 6, 2012 the PEOPLE have the oppprtunity to push back and let the powers know that the USA government is still there to curb their greed and their powers.
Obama has built a record of protecting the weak, pushing the rich back from taking the quick buck at the expense of the poor and pushing to assure that the government works for us all instead of just for the rich and powerful.
Obama-Biden have a record of accomplishment and have earned the public’s confidence. The Presiden has earned re-election.
Please help America continue to move forward, please vote Obama-Biden.
