Obama Uses Libya Debacle to Put Romney Six Feet Under
Without using a single personal attack, Obama used Romney’s disastrous handling of his remarks on the Libya attack to bury the Republican nominee.
Here is the video from CBS News:
Obama told 60 Minutes that, “There’s a broader lesson to be learned here. And I think — you know, Governor Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later. And as president, one of the things I’ve learned is you can’t do that. That, you know, it’s important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts. And that you’ve thought through the ramifications before you make ‘em.”
When Steve Croft asked the president if Romney’s comments were irresponsible, he answered, “I’ll let the American people judge that.”
Obama never personally attacked Romney. He didn’t turn his remarks into a political gesture. All the president did was set up a simple contrast that highlighted his executive experience. Obama was able to portray Romney as inexperienced and not ready to be president without ever having to personally say a bad word about the Republican nominee.
The president’s point was a solid one. Before the leader of the country can rush to judgement he or she must have all the facts and information. The president’s words matter more than anyone else’s, so it is critical that presidents choose their words carefully and not go off fishing trips for political gain.
Mitt Romney proved today that he is not made of presidential stock. More important than what Romney said was the poor decision to make his remarks when he did. His behavior wasn’t presidential. He was a desperate candidate, not a potential Commander in Chief. There is no comparison between how he handled the situation, and the behavior of President Obama.
The president managed to reinforce the message that he is the experienced incumbent that voters can trust without wading into the kind of political pandering that is the hallmark of the Romney campaign. Obama reinforced what a lot of people were already thinking today. Mitt Romney’s behavior was not only unprofessional. It was unpresidential.
Since Mitt Romney has never led in the polls, it is impossible to say that he lost the election today. But this moment combined with many others has dug a hole for the Republican nominee that he may never be able to climb out of.
By offering a simple contrast in experience President Obama was able to remind America of the difference between a president and a pretender, and over the last 24 hours Mitt Romney may have cemented his legacy as one of the biggest pretenders in presidential election history.
The reaction is pouring in, and the consensus is that Mitt Romney lost the second presidential debate. T ...

It isn’t American “values” to make crap movies like this. It’s our right.

Reading comments on various posts today, I am struck by our own (American) extremist rabble, whipped into frenzy against the President by a mis-leader. Someone eager to propagate more hate for political gain is despicable, certainly, but you nailed it by calling it “unprofessional”. Thank you for another excellent piece.

You could have stopped your post when you mentioned the word hate, Brigita, because that’s what the extremists are all about.

It appears that Bacile, the alleged producer of this conveniently-timed provocation, is not an Israeli, may not be a Jew, may not be named Bacile, and may not exist. In that case, who made the film, and with what funds? Follow the money. And for the convenient mob action, maybe we should look by the Blackwaterside…

“In that case, who made the film, and with what funds?”
The names Rove, Koch, and Adelson come immediately to mind.
Even Steve Klein, the hard hard right winger who really has no motive to say this (he’s got more motive to say the opposite), says he thinks the film is a purposeful piece of “misinformation” so, yeah, follow the money. I’d actually call it “disinformation” because it’s purposeful, whereas misinformation is of a more accidental nature. But that’s splitting hairs.

I think Romney is unqualified to be President, but I would like to know how the statement by Obama that “Governor Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later.” is not a personal attack?
This part of the statement is not a personal attack, however, “That, you know, it’s important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts. And that you’ve thought through the ramifications before you make ‘em.’”

I don’t consider something to be a personal attack when it’s based on the truth, and the condemnation of Romney’s statement by some republicans indicate that it’s not only the president who views Romney this way. Politico and other news organizations are saying that some republicans are also saying that Romney should have waited for all of the facts before he issued his statement.

That’s a no brainer. What was he thinking. Guess he wasn’t. Desperate people say and do desperate things. Not only that but he should take a moment to reflect unpon what he is going to say before he speaks.

He basically said Romney didn’t know what he was shooting at when he took the shot. Any shooter knows you always know what your target is before pulling the trigger. So considering what Romney was saying about the president, the mild rebuke over Romney running his mouth without having the facts first was very mild in comparison.

Mr Obama sets a fine example for all. His reaction to Mr Romney’s reckless and opportunistic attempt to get the upper hand, ably demonstrates why this President is so respected and liked by other world leaders.
The Romney/Ryan outfit is running a cheap shots, gutter based, policy free campaign similar to that attempted by McCain and Palin. It won’t work this time either. Some people never learn. Thank heavens for that!
Go Obama 2012!

So… in giving such high praise to Obama, and then turning around to insult the competition, are you showing, by example, that you and Obama have nothing in common?

Romney is so vacant. All the neocons around him telling him what to say and he never has any idea just how bad he looks. Rinse the Prius wont tell him, I think Rinse is working for Obama.
Palin told him to double down on the hate, but he doesnt know how top be effective at it

ND, it isn’t a personal attack because Obama was defending himself. If someone hit you in the face with their fist and you than hit them back, you aren’t attacking that person. You are defending yourself. Understand now!

What happened in Libya is horrible and being married to a Libyan we both condemn this. I hope Romney, does not get elected. It is not Obama’s fault for what is going on the world.
This has been building for decades.

President Obama has only been in office three and a half years. How can you make the statement that he is responsible for what’s going on in the world? Don’t you mean that Republicans are to blame since were under their regime for twelve years! Since it appears you’re looking for “someone to blame”,I think it should be the Republicans. President Obama has done what he set out to do and will continue to do for ALL Americans whether you like him or not. He will not single you out, I promise.

Romney (strongly) appears to be going by Sarah Palin’s “Palling Around With Terrorists” playbook–he’s just mixing up her word salad a bit & putting on extra (rancid) salad dressing.

More important than any other reason not to vote for Mitt Romney is that if he gets elected, we will be at war with Iran and possibly North Korea.

You know; The book of revelations is a really good book. Something like many of the sci-fi books that are written today. What I mean is the style of the way the book is written because it was written so many thousands of years ago. Hope that makes sense.

And we may end up with 1 or 2 more Antonin Scalias on SCOTUS. If those possibilities don’t scare you I don’t know what would. That’s the real 2016 “Fright Night Part Deux.”

The president was 100% right when he said that this idiot aka Willard Romney has a bad habit of shooting off at his mouth before he speaks. He is dangerously irresponsible and ignorant, and is indeed a threat to national security. Apparently, he and his equally ethically-challenged sidekick have short memories, because under GW Bush, 12 embassies were attacked. Their short-sighted jingoism, coupled with ignorance of international issues, would be a recipe for unmitigated disaster.

what scares me is Rmoney doing something or exposing that he has already done something that would disqualify him from election and allow gop the chancw to slip a ringer like Jeb Bush in on us. We need to concentrate on keeping senate and getting house back.
