Obama Masterfully Ties Paul Ryan to the Most Unpopular House in History
By: Jason EasleyAug. 13th, 2012more from Jason Easley
President Obama showed Mitt Romney why choosing Paul Ryan was a big mistake, by immediately linking Ryan to the most unpopular House of Representatives in American history.
The president spoke about the drought and tied Paul Ryan to the unpopular House. Obama said,
Right now folks here in Iowa and across the heartland are suffering from one of the worst droughts in 50 years. Farmers and ranchers depend on a good crop season to pay the bills and put a roof over their heads, and I know that things are tough right now.
The best way to help these states is for leaders in Congress to pass a farm bill that not only helps farmers and ranchers respond to natural disasters, but also makes necessary reforms and gives them some long-term certainty. But right now, too many members of Congress are blocking that bill from becoming law. Now, I’m told Governor Romney’s new running mate might be around Iowa these next few days. And he’s one of those leaders of Congress standing in the way. So if you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and our rural communities. It’s time to put politics aside and pass it right away.
But the folks suffering from this drought can’t wait for Congress to do its job. So in the meantime, I’ve made sure my Administration is doing everything we can to provide relief to those who need it. Last week, we announced $30 million to help farmers and ranchers, get more water to livestock, and rehabilitate land affected by the drought. Today, we’re announcing that the federal government will help livestock producers by purchasing over $150 million worth of meat and fish now, while prices are low, and freeze it for later. We’ve got a lot of freezers. (Laughter).
Obama told Iowans that they face a choice between two fundamentally different vision of this country and the path we have to take, and their choice would impact their lives, their children’s lives, and their grand children’s lives.
One thing that few people have discussed is that Mitt Romney is now directly married to a House of Representatives with a 16% approval rating. Obama was correct. Ryan is one of the Republicans in the House blocking the farm bill. More importantly, Obama called Ryan the intellectual leader of the House. The message is Paul Ryan is the brain behind a House that many Americans view as broken and dysfunctional.
People who are claiming that the president went after Ryan on the farm bill are missing the point. President Obama tied Paul Ryan and the rich guy running for president with him to the House of Representatives. Romney already had a problem with the House because of the looming fight over the Bush tax cuts, but from here on out, Romney is going to be tied to every unpopular move that the Republican House makes.
The House is absolutely politically toxic, which makes Romney’s selection of Ryan even more baffling. Thanks to Paul Ryan, President Obama now gets to run against Mitt Romney and the most unpopular House of Representatives in American history.
What the president is doing is using the House to define Paul Ryan, and he is using Ryan to define Romney. The Romney campaign has not been able to define their candidate, so there is little chance they will be able to define Paul Ryan. Obama is already defining Ryan as the brain behind the House. If you don’t like what House is doing, you don’t like Paul Ryan’s ideas, and you don’t like the direction that Mitt Romney will take the country in.
Never underestimate the unpopularity of an anti-farm bill message in Iowa, but the Obama campaign has a deeper purpose here. State by state, they are going to define Paul Ryan by the things he opposes. In Florida, Pennsylvania, and other swing states, Ryan is going to be accurately portrayed as the man who would kill Medicare.
The Obama campaign is going to make Mitt Romney pay dearly for choosing Paul Ryan.

I’ve never been so excited in my life to work to make sure Obama wins. Even with Palin, I did worry too much, because all she had to do was open her mouth. Obama just needs to continue to define Mittens and Blue Eyes and stay on that message.

If we all got off our chairs and went out and registered one new Democrat and made sure that person got to the polls – local, state, national – that would be a good deed that might make a difference when it comes to out-voting the conservatards.

The Ryan-Romney ticket moves the debate even beyond the budget and the economy into morality.
The Ryan Plan is so damaging to social programs benefiting our poorest and most vulnerable citizens that it prompted the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to publicly blast the devout Catholic for not just tearing holes in the nation’s safety but for his “shredding of the nation’s moral obligations.”

I wonder how much federal money Obama plans to spend for each farm vote in Iowa?

Don’t bother taxing your brain, Boise 74, apparently you only have half of the critical thinking skill required. Critical, without thinking is ssdd for 2012 Republicans.

Good question, and I’m more than willing to answer it! Let’s see now. President Obama directed Agriculture Secretary Vilsack to direct $30 million to farmers in areas hit by the drought last week, and today, he announced the USDA would be purchasing $150 million in beef and fish. I’d say the president is quite concerned about the effect the drought is having on our farmers–not just in Iowa but all over the country. The important thing is that Paul Ryan has done nothing for the farmers in Iowa or anywhere else. I guess you missed this in Jason’s post.
$180 million vs. 0 says a lot about how little Ryan and the republicans in Congress care about how much our farmers are suffering during this drought. Their refused to pass the farm bill was a purely political move meant to direct Americans’ ire on to the president because they didn’t do their jobs. That you support them in their obstruction is very revealing. It makes me think that you’re as spiteful, mean, hateful, and dishonest as they are.

Excellent response to the rethug dipshit that couldn’t add 150 million and 30 million. There is the difference right there. It is easier to give someone the finger rather than a helping hand.

Right! Why should the government help out these lazy, free-loading parasites. If they can’t make it they should go under! We don’t need their stinking food, Walmart has plenty! And Obama’s not very smart either, he’s wasting millions pandering for a handfull of votes. He could have better return on all that money if he would give it to the NRA for the under 6yr.-old gun safety and national right to carry program! Or maybe build a wall to keep out those dayum Canadians!
I won’t let him use MY MONEY to bail out some rich good-for-nothing dirt farmer!
And besides, there is no drought, it’s another scam by scientists to get grant money, like global warming! It gets dry in the summer! It’s part of the natural cycle!, and it’s because of the sun!
If they want rain, they should pray for it like good christians! It’s the Lord’s way of getting their attention, -they’ve strayed from the bible and need to repent!
Just remember WWARD!

Wow, now thats just like a repug. I bet if you were in a crowd of farmers in Iowa at a Romney rally you would be applauding when Romney told those farmers they are the salt of the earth and I bet you wouldnt take it upon yourself to tell them that Obama is spending too much to help them out during the drought. But then little haters like you are much braver with a keyboard and a six pack huh?

Paul Ryan’s 14 years in the House of Representatives:
8 years with George W Bush running up war deficits
4 years trying to redefine rape while obstructing American jobs
that leaves 2 years for…um..?.., “Me And My Arrow”

Per TPM:
On its website and in an email Monday, House Speaker John Boehner’s office said President Obama needs to take personal responsibility for the drought ravaging the Midwest.
Obama, “continues to blame anyone and everyone for the drought but himself,” reads a release from Boehner’s office posted online and distributed to reporters Monday. The quote was attributed to Boehner himself in a Financial Times story.
The post on Boehner’s website was changed after this post was published, and this addendum added:
UPDATED @ 4:30 PM ET: Clarifies that the president is blaming others for failing to respond to the drought when he has yet to urge Senate Democrats to adopt a bipartisan drought-relief measure passed by the House.
The new version reads, “the president continues to blame anyone and everyone for failing to respond to the drought but himself.”
I’m guessing he actually meant the original version…

There are bills and plans on the table. All you have to do is vote on them, Mr. B.
Now one question – if Obama is responsible for the drought, does that mean Obama is GOD? And if not, why the HELL are you that stupid, Mr. Speaker?

Sooo — according to Agent Orange [Boehner], President Obama is now responsible for weather conditions and natural disasters.
I suppose Boehner thought Dubya needed to take personal responsibility for Hurricane Katrina, too — other than playing air guitar, I mean . . .

I don’t understand this pick. So as usual Romney will pick up a few more votes in Wisconsin, but even if he wins wisconsin he’s still not going to win the election. Should have picked someone from OH, PA, FL or one of the more hotly contested states. AND if would have even made more sense to pick someone of hispanic origin or a woman, for more obvious reasons.

Mittens the Liar Rmoney’s choice of Eddie Munster was incredibly stupid and politically tone-deaf…I’m still chuckling after finding out on Saturday morning that Eddie had been chosen by Mittens; one of the 8 cornerstones of the GOP is “incompetence”; the choice Mittens made is further confirmation of that. Is it any wonder that I’ve been predicting the death of the GOP on 6 November, 2012, for nearly a year now? I’m glad to see people, especially media people, are beginning to see what I saw months ago…welcome aboard! What’s that old saying that people who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it? Research the 1932, 1934 and 1936 elections and you’ll see plenty of parallels to what will happen this year, in 2014 and 2016; last time the GOP were pasted like this at the ballot box, it took them more than two decades to recover; should they survive this year’s elections (not guaranteed), it’ll take them much longer…you don’t have to believe me…just wait until it happens and then listen to the sound of my voice saying, “See? I told you so!” LMAO ;)
