Unlike Obama, The Republican Convention has Banned Guns
Republicans have spent the past four years fearmongering that Obama is coming for their guns, but at the 2012 convention, the GOP has banned all guns and weapons.
A quick perusal of the Republican National Convention’s list of prohibited items shows that the first item on the list is, “Weapons, firearms or knives (regardless of size).” Wait, the party of the Second Amendment, NRA, Stand Your Ground has banned guns from the convention?
As a matter of security this makes sense in the convention hall. No one wants to see a blood bath as Republican delegates use their Second Amendment rights to celebrate at the convention in Tampa, but the Republican Convention has also banned, “Plastic replicas of weapons (including toy guns).”
In case you were planning on firing off a water pistol or cap gun, forget it. Those are banned too. It is just a tad bit hypocritical for Mitt Romney to stand before the NRA at their convention and say that, “And if we are going to safeguard our Second Amendment, it is time to elect a president who will defend the rights President Obama ignores or minimizes. I will.”
Romney is so pro Second Amendment that he has banned toy guns from the convention. By the way, guns just aren’t banned inside the convention hall, but also the whole convention perimeter.
The Republican Party has advocated that Americans be allowed to carry their weapons anyplace and anywhere, so why doesn’t this policy apply to their own convention?
President Obama has not expressed any interest in banning weapons or infringing on the Second Amendment, yet the right sticks to their fantasy that the Republican Party will keep their guns safe. Only one candidate in this race signed the nation’s first permanent assault weapons ban, and it wasn’t Barack Obama.
When it comes to the Second Amendment, the Republican Party’s talk doesn’t match their actions.

Pity they did that.It would be a riot to see a horde of wild eyed teabaggers walk into the convention carrying assault rifles.Of course there might be a few risks involved.I wonder if Mitt is wearing a bulletproof vest.

My concern is that they’re doing all this, but have agent provocateurs among the protesters, so as to try to permanently ruin the name, for instance, of the Occupy movement (which people here, except those in the know, think is violent and destructive).
Violence during their convention would play right into their hands. I hope that the protesters have this well in mind and are VERY careful (and quick to point out and denounce anyone trying to start real trouble).

Each and every time one of the shooting sprees occurs (Virginia Tech, Columbine, etc. etc. etc.) The Repubs announce like clockwork that if there had only been more people with more guns on the scene, then it could not have occurred, in fact a group of people without guns serves as an invitation for some gunman to mow them down.
In other words, more guns equals more safety.
The Repubs have systematically written this program into law, allowing concealed weapons, guns in bars, stand your ground, etc, etc. etc.
What is striking about the GOP convention ban is that it reveals that even Repubs DO NOT BELIEVE THAT MORE GUNS EQUALS MORE SAFETY.
You suggest that this is only common sense, but WHAT THEN ABOUT ALL THE RANDOM SLAUGHTER produced by the GOP program?

Yours is the typical authoritarian follower reaction to hearing the truth. Republicans have joined with the NRA to lie that President Obama wants to take their guns. In every instance in which there has been gun violence on a large scale, republican politicians, some of their supporters, and the NRA say that if everyone had had a gun, there would have been fewer deaths. The fact that the party of guns has banned guns at their convention reveals that they are cowards and hypocrites. If they really and truly believed that it’s okay to be armed everywhere one goes, they would have allowed guns at the convention. You may not like having to face the fact that many republicans are hypocrites and cowards but banning guns at their own convention confirms it. Go ahead, get pissed off, maybe it will make you think and prevent you from continuing to buy into their BS. One can only hope.
