Obama Routs Republicans on Sequester as 56% of GOP Support His Balanced Approach
By: Jason EasleyFeb. 21st, 2013more from Jason Easley
Republicans have lost the sequester battle so comprehensively that according to the new USA Today/Pew Research poll, 56% of Republicans support Obama’s balanced approach to reducing the deficit.
According to a new USA Today/Pew Research poll, 49% those surveyed support the president’s short term delay of the sequester. Forty percent think the spending cuts should be allowed to go into effect. The Republican argument that new tax revenue should not be a part of further deficit reduction is being soundly rejected. Seventy six percent of those surveyed believe that the president and congress should focus on lowering the deficit through a combination of tax increases and spending cuts. Only 19% agree with the Republican approach of spending cuts alone.
Republicans have also lost a majority of their party on this issue. Fifty six percent of Republicans support Obama’s balanced approach to reducing the deficit. Just 42% of Republicans support their own party’s position that the deficit should be reduced through spending cuts alone, but seventy three percent of all of those surveyed think that the balanced approach should be weighted towards spending cuts.
The entire standoff over the sequester is centered around whether or not the cuts will be avoided with a balanced approach of revenue and cuts. Judging by this poll. it appears House Republicans don’t have a leg to stand on. They don’t have public support for their cuts only position, and they even lack the support of a majority of their own party.
President Obama has already won the messaging war on taxes, the deficit, and the sequester. His victory is so comprehensive that even a majority of Republicans support his position. This poll illustrates that Republican members of Congress are no longer only out of step with the rest of the country. On this issue, they are out of step with a majority of their own party.
This same poll found that if the sequester cuts go into effect, congressional Republicans will be blamed by 49%-31% margin. The Boehner plan to blame Obama for the sequester is now a verified flop. If House Republicans maintain their unpopular position, you can expect their percentage of the blame to increase in the coming days.
House Republicans aren’t going to win a battle of public opinion with President Obama. The more they try, the bigger they lose.

Sane republicans are in shock at what has become of their party.Business leaders have tried to corral the monster they helped fund and now know their bottom line is threatened.
Now they reaping the whirlwind and are powerless to stop it.

Wow…hope this poll is ‘talked-up’ far and wide.
No matter what these insane Pubs do to obstruct this President and America…they fail, because they are wrong! Reminds me of this ‘Road Runner Cartoon’ Andrew Sullivan posted a few days ago:

You know what this means to Republicans?
All it means is that USA Today/Pew Research are nothing but left wing liberal pollsters.

Overwhelming public support for an issue…..never let it be said that *that* swayed any republican legislator! They are masters at shooting themselves in the foot. They don’t care what we, the people, think. We just have to keep up the pressure though, and force them to it.

56% of Republicans Support a Balanced Approach. Yes, that is true. The sticking point is that President Obama ‘says’ he wants a Balanced Approach, but then fails to agree to spending cuts. He says one thing but does another. Then he blames the Republicans for the mess.
Believe me, I have plenty of complaints about the Republicans. But the President needs to lead on this and stop dividing us.
And seriously people! “Put the Boot on their necks”? “Insane Pubs”? Is that really how Adults are supposed to behave?

Republicans are ignorant?
I am fully aware that politics will never be perfect and the party you associate with might not always do what is best for the country. But let’s talk about ignorance for a second. The sequester was put in place because the government spends too much and Obama agreed back then to put these cuts in place. The sequester is about SPENDING REDUCTION!!!! So when the Republican party says they aren’t going to give higher taxes up becaue they already agreed to higher taxes in the last deal and now the discussion is spending cuts then get your head out of your butt and realize this was started because Washington agreed we need to spend less money so they all need to stayp focuesed on the task at hand. We can talk about raising more money on the hard working later but right now Obama has to live up to the spending cuts instead of continuing to spread his message of spreading the wealth. Oh that 1.7 trillion in spending cuts. Way to spout off liberal talking points. Explain to me how the deficit going up by more than it did the previous year count as a spending cut. Hahahaahaha nice try buddy. You people read blogs all day instead of trying to truly look into the facts. You can sit here and blame the republican party all you want and when Obama puts them all too shame with his charisma you be ready cause I can assure you these kinds of policy will never make this country strong and then we will be stuck with what we asked for.

The national debt has already been cut by over 500 billion dollars and is continuing to go down, the Obama administration has spent the least amount in government of the past 5+ presidents, so spending is Not the problem, the lack of JOBS is. The American Jobs Act needs to be passed, helping Americans get back to work; wages are too low, people have no discretionary income to buy anything, so businesses can’t grow. We started getting out of the economic crises caused by trickle-down economics under Bush because of the Recovery and Reinvestment Act, but now, thanks to the sequester, that will slow right down. You can”t cut our way out of a debt that has been growing ever since Reagan.

I confused the national debt with the deficit. Here are some statistics for you:
