Why Obama Is Winning: 57% of Registered Voters Blame Bush and GOP for Economy
By: Jason EasleySep. 13th, 2012more from Jason Easley
A new CNN poll explains why President Obama is leading in the polls. By margin of 57%-35%, registered voters blame George W. Bush and the Republican Party for the poor condition of the economy.
The CNN/ORC poll began with what should have been some good news for Romney. By a margin of 68%-32%, registered voters rated economic conditions in the country as poor. This moment of temporary Romney optimism was crushed by the fact that 67% of registered voters expect their economic condition to be good next year. Forty four percent of voters consider themselves worse off than they were four years ago, compared to 37% who say that they are better off.
The back breaker for Romney came when registered voters were asked which policies were more to blame for the country’s current economic problems, George W. Bush and the Republicans or Barack Obama and the Democrats. Fifty seven percent of registered voters said that Bush and the Republicans are responsible, compared to 35% who blamed Obama and the Democrats.
A deeper look inside the who is responsible numbers reveals that by a margin of 53%-37%, Independents think Bush and the GOP are responsible for the current state of the economy. Fifty six percent of men and fifty eight percent of women still hold Bush and the GOP responsible. White people narrowly hold Bush and Republicans more responsible, 48%-42% Americans under age 50 hold Bush and the Republican Party more responsible by a more than 2 to 1 margin, 62%-30%. The only groups polled that hold Obama and the Democrats responsible are Republicans (72%) and conservatives (52%).
The reason why Obama is winning is because voters are agreeing with his message that the economy is getting and will continue to get better. The likely and registered voters in this poll expect it to be better by next year. Voters aren’t believing Mitt Romney when he claims that if Obama gets reelected the economy will get worse.
More importantly, Republicans nominated a self styled economic Mr. Fix It whose solutions voters are viewing as the cause of the problem. The registered voters in this poll are still holding George W. Bush and his party responsible for the economy. This means that Romney’s economic plan, which is to do what Bush did, is signalling to voters that he may very well make things worse if elected.
In short, Romney is failing to convince voters that the economy is Obama’s fault. The voters in this poll have not forgotten who was in office during the economic collapse, and Mitt Romney has not been able to convince them that he would do anything to make it better.
Pundits and pollsters have expressed confusion over why Obama has been able to lead Romney while hauling around such a sluggish economy. The answer is simply that voters aren’t blaming the president for the economy. They still view the economic mess as something that he inherited from George W. Bush. Romney’s attacks on Obama over the economy are falling flat because a majority of voters are rejecting his basic premise that Obama is to blame for the economy.
Voters see the economy going in the right direction, they agree with President Obama that it will get even better, and they are still holding George W. Bush and the Republican Party responsible for the economic collapse.
These three reasons are why Barack Obama is so far defying the odds, and is positioned to win reelection in the midst of a stubborn and difficult economy.

Part of this I think is due to the fact that much of the facts are not known. The deficit is shrinking in the last two years, the number of jobs is going up. The jobs report as rather dysfunctional simply because it depends on the amount of people who are looking for work and how many arnt.
If all the facts in this economy were known that I think obama would be much further ahead. I am not comfortable what the national polls which he has which is not very big. But fortunately Mr. Romney is making such a huge full of himself that the polls may not make any difference

I hope this poll will indicate that dems will pick up more seats in the house and hopefully keep the senate and pick up seats. Gosh if we get anymore teabaggers nothing will get done.

Not so fast…
The math seems to say that Romney can’t lose!
(1) No one who voted for McCain will vote for Obama.
(2) AND, many people who voted for Obama are publicly expressing that they won’t vote for him this time. Some are saying “buyer’s remorse”, like black comedian Jimmy J.J. Walker even had the conviction to force that phrase into the conversation recently on liberal David Letterman’s show.
(3) Catholics, who were responsible for electing Obama the first time (as well as Clinton) are seeing their hierarchy not only denounce the democrat positions as going against God and the Bible (abortion, contraception, gay marriage, etc.), but are also suing the Obama administration for using Obamacare to force Catholic institutions (hospitals, schools, churches) to go against their beliefs. (Where is the Freedom Of Religion there?) And Catholics make up 1/3 of the voters.
(4) Young people, who were so much a reason for the Obama victory, are discouraged, as are liberals disappointed in what Obama actually did (as opposed to what he said he was going to do for them).
(5) Conservatives are highly energized to take the country back.
(6) Despite the polls, the midterm elections and other elections are showing how people actually vote. And it’s gotten even worse for the dems since.
(7) Seniors are finding out that Obamacare has actually stolen from Medicare. (All of this is “read my lips” to the max).
(8) Jews are seeing how anti-Israel Obama is. And there are 150,000 voting Americans living in Israel, where Obama’s policies are negative towards Israel.
(9) Black church leaders are saying how anti-Bible the dems policies are.
(10) Many pastors are going to be speaking how dems are anti-Bible on October 6th and 7th, challenging the IRS anti Freedom Of Speech policy.
Now, add to that:
Romney (unlike Obama) is an experienced, effective problem solver in government, business and economics and has a clean past.

Thank you for ‘splaining to me the exact ingredients of the Kool Aide–I find it amazing propaganda. And I presume you are Roman Catholic? I personally know some of those who are voting for Obama, and his solid Christian faith is one reason for that. Others want to give him more time to fix the mess he was handed, and keep religion out of it. “Sometimes it’s better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Ahh yes, but there are nearly as many voting youth to replace the last four years of dead and dying old fogie Repubforlifes. That and less people use cell phones than did four years ago further offsetting the impact of land line political polling effectiveness. If you combine this and the people leaving the GOP, the numbers are actually a lot better. But I am totally okay with the GOP thinking they are doing so well. I am also okay with the Democrats thinking they have a harder fight ahead of them. Fired up! Ready to go!!!

Wow!!! I sure wish I could get my hands on that special crystal ball you’re using. News Flash! This isn’t the only poll that confirms that Americans blame Bush more than President Obama for the lousy economy. The onlyrepondents who don’t blame President Bush for our economic woes are republicans, and we know why: RWers never admit they’re wrong, but deep inside of themselves they know Bush is responsible. How do republicans explain the absence of Bush and Cheney in the 2012 campaign? Romney,McConnell, Boehner, Ryan, and all republcans know that Bush was a failure. This is why they never mention his name and he’s not stumping for any GOP candidate this year. You don’t hide a success. President Clinton was in FL today stumping for President Obama because he was a success, he’s not hiding out, and we are proud of the job he did when he was leading the country. You didn’t mention Bush anywhere in the list of events that you cited in your post. Why not?

I consider Bush and Cheney war criminals. I sing to the choir on neither the left or the right. As independent i took the hook in 2008 for Barack.First time, shame on me, second time shame on you!Its not that i don’t like Obama. Its just that i don’t think he can balance his checkbook! Can’t you see where he’s taking the country? With all do respect, show me where i’m wrong!

So the black church leaders are talking about President Obama’s anti-democratic ideas, That must be why PBO is getting 94% of the black vote, and Mitt Romney is getting 0% of the black vote, add this little fact to your comical list of Fox news talking points.

Romney probably doesn’t have a clean record, he’s probably a federal criminal who got off because of an amnesty program they had to create because of all the other rich people who were doing the same things he has. Why do you think they won’t release more tax returns, Anne Romney said it, it would give people more AMMUNITION against them. If he was a run of the mill citizen it wouldn’t matter much but a presidential candidate having a federal crime on his record even if he got off because of the amnesty program is a no-no. Also the closest he comes to being a businessman is him being a sort of investment banker. I really don’t like his hypocrisy either, he’s bawling about the debt & he piled debt on all those companies Bain ‘bought’, actually they took out huge loans & then made the already struggling companies pay off the loans used to buy them & occasionally they gave themselves 100 million plus bonuses that they made the companies pay for, in addition to charging millions in consultant fees. Read this months Rolling Stone for the full story of what all he did. Robot Romney is a good nickname for him along with Mitt the twit.
