#OccupyPolice will be a Force to be Reckoned With
The cataclysmic force of #OccupyMarines was United States Marine Corps. Sergeant Shamar
Thomas after boldly denouncing the abusive actions of the NYPD in an emotional plea which
can be seen in a video gone viral, viewed by over 2,215,000 people worldwide, as reported
here.
Thomas’ plea was the inspiration behind Occupy Marines and now the movement is reaching
out to the police force while touting one as a hero.
“We are looking for this man, please help us find him. We don’t know much but what we do
know is, he’s an officer somewhere in the UK, and out of all the officers there, he is a lone hero in the crowd, we wanna lend him our support, any info please comment below or contact us at: [email protected]…”
Using Sgt. Thomas-style tactics the movement is extending the Solidarity branch in form of
a website OccupyPolice.org while social site activists partake in helping effort along utilizing
Facebook and Twitter’s hashtag #OccupyPolice.
Occupy_Police tweeted:
“Tired of the mass arrests, we’ve created a website for Police who support the 99 #OWS will
move forward with Police support #OccupyTogether”
It doesn’t take an economic analyst to comprehend what category our men and women in blue
fall in – they are the 99%.
“It’s been 24 hours since the launch of the Occupy Police Movement and we’re off to a good
start! We have some announcements regarding the upcoming week. The first is that we’re
going to hold a live online General Assembly on Monday from 8pm-9pm est. We’ll be fielding
questions and taking in, all of your input as to the direction of Occupy Police. This is the peoples movement and the course it runs is in your hands. We encourage officers from around the US to get involved.”
There is a clear distinction in the NYPD’s tactics; the White shirted officers were/are the
antagonists, pepper spraying peaceful protesters randomly while the Blue shirted officers look on, some of them in dismay. Anthony Balongna, the White shirted police commander who
blasted peaceful protesting females with pepper spray said he, “would do things the same
way” if given a second chance. Balogna may be a supervising officer but I doubt that will deter officers who do not outrank him from joining this spectacular grassroots movement representing the working middle class, which includes the police.
During the protests in Wisconsin the Police did not give in to their authoritarian Governor’s outrageous requests. Instead of bowing to Walker, they stood in solidarity with protesters who were demanding collective bargaining rights remain intact. Police were told to remove them but instead of kicking them out of the building the protesters ‘occupied,’ the police remained at night with them.
“We have been ordered by the legislature to kick you all out at 4:00 today. But we know what’s right from wrong. We will not be kicking anyone out, in fact, we will be sleeping here with you!”
‘We the People’ are represented in this nonpartisan movement and the strategy is to avoid
ostracizing the police but instead request that they join them in solidarity much like the
Wisconsin police did.
Thomas’ background speaks volumes on patriotism:
“Thomas comes from a long line of people who sacrifice for their country: Mother, Army Veteran (Iraq), Step father, Army, active duty (Afghanistan), Grand father, Air Force veteran (Vietnam), Great Grand Father Navy veteran (World War II).”
Go on, call this patriot a ‘dirty hippie’ but just do it to his face.
“There’s no political movement there. There’s no thirst for any kind of a political movement there. They wouldn’t have the backing of the American public.”
The movement has grown exponentially since that statement was made but Fox has remained
consistent in their denial.
On the 17th of September when I marched with the Occupiers, I ran into a young officer and
spoke with him, mostly in a joking manner. As I left I said, “Something tells me you would rather be protesting then to be policing the people”. He smiled, laughed, then nodded his head in agreement.
It’s only a matter of time that the good cops wake up because We the People are witnessing
oppression:

I don’t get how the cops can side with the people who would love to privatize their jobs with people willing to work for a lot less and who work for security companies who only care about profits.

Right. Blue is citizen too. Work “for the people”, not the billionaire bastards who are robbing the US. Join Occupy on your time off and be on the right side of history. Re-read the Bill of Rights. WTF?

if the military and the police turn on their corporate masters then the corporate masters are through. but that’s the only way it can happen: law enforcement has been the private army of private capital for a very long time. but in the video of Sgt Shamar you could see it in the faces: those cops knew that Sgt Shamar is RIGHT and that their corporate masters are not their friends–or the friends of their children. I pray that the day has come that the police have had their corporate master overplay their hand one time too many. After all, cops, marines, soldiers and sailors can’t like getting shit on any better than anyone else: they’ve seen loved ones lose their homes, they can’t put their kids through college, they can’t pay their bills just like the rest of us. Please God THE TIME HAS COME.
VIVA LA REVOLUCION!

I was thinking… I’m not sure revolution would be the right word, because we already have the answer to the problem in place: it’s called the Constitution. Revolution implies overthrowing what is already in place.
If we’re trying to change anything, it’s to strip the filthy rich of their power and harness them for the good of all (including themselves, whether they recognize it or not). We may have to make a couple of MINOR changes to the constitution – for instance, making sure it’s locked in rock that corporations are NOT PEOPLE and don’t have rights like people do.
In fact, I would be very wary of any major changes… for instance, if we went to a “pure democracy”, we could end up with the dominionists in power. All they’d have to do is capture a majority of the vote (like they did in the last election) and we’d be back into the same situation we’re in now.

Let’s take a page from the British and call it a Restoration. We already have a damn good framework, we just need to get rid of the abuses.

COPS against CORPorationS
The 99% have to look out for themselves when it comes to money. Since the CORPS already HAVE the money, let THEM look out for themselves when it comes to safety/security…maybe they will become more CO-OPerative! All that Socialism of working together for the COMMON good & all (not just for the good of the 1%)

Each of you officers out there, which would you rather be: a big Baloney, or True Blue?

Don’t the New York cops remember how the Republicans in Congress tried to prevent funds from compensating ill and dying 9/11 responders?

Reading this brought tears to my eyes.
It gives me more hope (and I suspect my friends and wife will feel the same). In a county called by researchers I know “Bigot Central USA”, if #OccupyPolice came here, maybe the good cops would finally be able to shine, and the dirty ones would be cleaned out (or who knows… see themselves and change?). They just need to realize that they’re one of us, and that their job is not to suppress and harass innocent people, but they are to PROTECT people.
Maybe the poor people in this county wouldn’t have to be wary every time they see a cruiser or someone in uniform. It would be wonderful to be able to trust that a police officer is there to help you and not make your life more miserable!!!
I’m glad to see police officers who don’t think they’re somehow better than the rest of us because they wear a badge and a uniform. We’re all people, after all – and what hurts us does truly hurt them (whether they realize it or not).

And don’t forget the thousands of troops who will be coming home at the end of the year with no jobs in site for anyone. They will join and we will get all of america on the move. We need millions and millions if we want to move our country forward, the heck with that moving backward stuff

I didn’t even think of that. Many–not all, but many–of them will leave the military or want to–but will probably be unable to because of job prospects. That tiny coterie of amoral asses on Wall Street have done so much to so many–and it will be felt for many years after I’m dead.

I think it will trickle down to the local level too.
I hope.
When you know that local behind-the-scenes moguls are manipulating things to their profit while harming the poor, they’re abusing minorities because of racism and bigotry (and again for profit), and you see something like this (the tools of the rich opposing them), it is a hopeful sign in an area where there has been little hope.
I want to see all the rich brought to leash. They’ve made life hell for people for too long (read “The Poor Pay More” and “Debt for Sale” – both good books on the subject), and all of the problems faced by the human race are caused by greed.

All police officers who side with people committing crimes should be stripped of their guns and badges. They should not be allowed to ever serve again unless it is time behind bars.
There are few things lower than a crooked cop.

It’s highly encouraging to see police officers allying themselves with other members of the 99%, against those who do not have our interests at heart. This movement is so inclusive and motivated for the common good, in stark to the clueless, hateful Tea Partiers who seem concerned only about THEIR personal rights and couldn’t care less about the rest of us. That’s on top of the fact that they are financed by the Koch brothers.
