Rupert Murdoch Uses His Media Empire to Declare War On Occupy Wall Street
In what amounts to a declaration of war against Occupy Wall Street, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp has launched a misinformation assault on the 99% across multiple parts of his media empire.
Here is the video from Media Matters:
Steve Doocy quoted almost verbatim from a New York Post article that highlighted the crime, drug abuse and free food at Occupy Wall Street. Here are some of the parts of the article that Doocy read almost as written on the air,
Wanted for burglary, the drug-addled fugitive said some of his hard-partying pals clued him in that the protest was a good place to be fed, get wasted and crash. “I’ve been smoking and drinking in here for eight days now,” said Dave, booze on his breath and his eyes bloodshot as he lay sprawled on a tattered sheet of cardboard. “I need to get some methadone. Every day, I wake up, and I’m f–ked up.” Drugs can be easy to score — a Post reporter was offered pot for $15 and heroin for $10.
…
The free chow offered to protesters was boosting the crowd.
“People say they are here for the cause, but the real reason is the free food,” quipped Cameron, 26, of Jersey City. “On my third day, they had smoked salmon with cream cheese. You know how much smoked salmon is a pound? Sixteen dollars. I eat better here than I do with my parents!”
At one point yesterday, a speaker from Washington, DC, told protesters how to break out of zip ties and handcuffs in case they get collared. The protest vet, Ryan Clayton, 30, demonstrated how use a bobby pin to spring the cuffs open — while claiming he was “not encouraging people to break out of restraints.”
News Corp owned Fox News used the quotes from the also News Corp owned Post to substantiate their claims that the people attending Occupy Wall Street are criminals, druggies, and hippies who are only there for the free food. The point of writing such stories and essentially reading them on Fox News is not only to smear Occupy Wall Street, but also to scare News Corp readers and viewers who might be having sympathetic feelings or even considering standing with the 99%.
News Corp is trying to portray the protests as dangerous places full of shady characters where drugs and sex are running rampant. The Post article even worked in a quote and a reference to Woodstock. The strategy is clear. News Corp is combining their resources to spread an anti-Occupy Wall Street message across multiple media properties and platforms. This is an escalation of their attack on the protesters and their message.
Murdoch is using his vast media empire to declare war on Occupy Wall Street and the 99%. News Corp is now coordinating their message and attacks. The anti-Occupy message has been appearing on several News Corp owned properties individually, but the media giant is now trying to unify the dissemination of their misinformation. News Corp has gone from mocking the protests, to denying the size of the protests, to launching an all-out coordinated misinformation campaign against Occupy Wall Street.
News Corp and the right wing media have been trying for over a week now to slow down the growth of this movement with no success. More people are joining the existing protests, and new protests are springing up around the country. The 99% don’t have a Rupert Murdoch, but they do have thousands of people taking to Twitter, Facebook, blogs and websites to report the truth about these protests.
The one percent have their media machine churning out their propaganda 24/7, but they are fighting a message war that they are destined to lose.

It’s ironic, because for so long, the media did everything in its power to ignore the movement in the hopes that it would go away. By contrast, they focused on everything Tea Partiers said and did, regardless of its newsworthiness. Then, when it kept growing and spreading to other American cities, it could no longer be ignored. They started taking potshots at it in order to discredit it, and now because Rupert Murdoch has organized war on the movement, it shows that behind their derision is fear. They view the movement as a real threat because they know that some of their minions will inevitably wake up and smell their stench. For so long, they have been not only sustained, but also made wealthy, by millions of low information viewers and they can’t afford to lose them.

I was watching this morning when Donald was on and talking about OWS and then Gretchen told Donald one of their complaints was that the banks weren’t lending to small businesses and Donald said – they are right – they aren’t…pretty much ended the Donald segment right then and there. The whole thing was funny as they started off with the SNL spoof and Donald defended SNL…

Pretty nervey (sic) of Mr. Murdoch, considering he is pretty deep doo doo. You would think he has the sense to lay low.
But then as my dear Momma used to say;
“Honey, Republicans have more nerve than a bad tooth.

I am not surprised that this is happening. You’ll find people like that in every crowd. Look at the prostitutes that rush into the towns that are holding political conventions and other types of conventions. You’ll find a pickpocket in every crowd.
But you’re not likely to find complete liars like you do on Fox news

No, this is NOT the Tea Party of the Left. It’s much, much bigger than that, hence why we call ourselves the 99%. Many, many Republicans have also been harmed and taken advantage of by the current system and the corporations that literally run this country. It’s important not to let them divide US. That’s exactly what they want. This includes the Left’s attempt at making this a movement belonging to the Democratic party. Those in power would like nothing more than to divide us in half, Republican vs Democrat. Business as usual. Both sides are corrupt and receive tons of money from corporations.

This attempt to stereotype protesters is going to backfire. Too many people have been effected by the bank collapses and the recession, too many people dislike Citizens United, too many people are angry over the money corrupting our politics. Many of those watching Fox News have lost or fear losing their jobs. Many have lost a chunk of their retirement savings. Many are in underwater mortgages. Many of them were attracted to the Tea Party because of resentment over the Wall Street bailouts. In other words, they are more amenable to the message of the 99%’s than they are to the patronizing ridiculing of Steve Doocy.

Why can’t the Obama administration act faster to bring down this evil company now that there is actually a way to do so. That violation of US law in the UK is enough to heavily impact this company. Same thing with the Koch brothers. Whereas FDR tried to use the FBI to legally find dirt on his enemies and found none, here is all the dirt Obama needs to severely put a dent in the radical right.

The “free” broadcast frequencies belong to the people. The FCC is supposed to require broadcasters to operate in the public interest. Surely Obama can resurrect the FCC from Bush’s destruction and put them to work.

He’s too late because the damage has been done already. The citizens have realized that his network is all about lies and deceit and that can be proved from the way his paid liars have been treated at these occupations. Too bad for him, the citizens have their own networks now through which they can share information and educate and re-educate themselves. We have the internet and sites like youtube, myspace, newsparticipation.com and others where citizens share info and knowledge. Fox is on its way to expiration.

I suspect these “interviewees” were plants, and if not, they were carefully cherrypicked.
The Mouth of Sauron has been driving our news cycle and our political process for far too long. It is time that all legal means be brought to bear, if not to silence it, at least to mute its voice until it is no larger or louder than anyone else’s. Several excellent letters and petitions to both the AJ and your Congresscritters are on line. Search and sign, or circulate your own.

What would you expect? First rule of war, control media. Second rule of war, read first rule of war. Be anything but surprised. They have been doing this to us since the beginning, news, movies, Hollyweird. Rothschild own it all/control it all. It’s not going to be easy. We let our guards down. Easily since 1932 we have been sitting on our asses and it’s been a joke on us since. NOW we have to pay for our genuine lack of discipline. Just remember this, Obama saw this coming and made law where all he has to do is flick a switch and guess what…bye bye internet, twitter, FB, it’s all over and then we are reduced to tins cans with a string, I doubt anyone has a ham radio or would know how to build or operate one. Let’s get ready to rumble because you can bet your ass this, they will NOT give it back without a fight, that’s the ONLY guarantee you need to be aware of and concerned of.

Knowing Murdoch is bringing the full force and fury of his media empire to bear against the ‘occupy Wall Street,’ movement, is a sure sign the occupiers are doing something right.
