As Isaac Arrives Republicans Threaten to Deny Disaster Relief Funding
Hurricane Isaac
As the illegal nomination of Mitt RMoney has been cast, apparently Governor Piyush Jindal of Louisiana may not see any funding to help the good folks of Louisiana if Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) has his way.
According to Think Progress
Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) told Think Progress at a Hispanic Leadership Network luncheon that Republicans should take a similar approach with disaster funding for Hurricane Isaac as they did after natural disasters last year. In 2011, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) led the Republican charge to deny disaster funding following major hurricanes and tornadoes unless the federal budget was cut in other areas.
Labrador said that Congress must “readjust everything we do” in order to find cuts to pay for Hurricane Isaac disaster relief. “If there’s emergencies, we don’t always need to keep borrowing money,” said the freshman Republican.
SCOTT KEYES: Last year, for instance, after the Missouri tornado, Leader Cantor was a real “hold-the-line” to call for budget cuts to pay for disaster relief. Do you think that’s still the right strategy going forward if there’s damage from Hurricane Isaac?
LABRADOR: I think government should do what every family does. If you have an emergency, then you rethink your priorities and you still invest and you still do the things that you need to do to take care of your family. That’s what government should do is always reconsider. If there’s emergencies, we don’t always need to keep borrowing money, but we can actually take care of people that are in damaged communities by reconfiguring what we’re doing in Washington D.C.
KEYES: So find cuts to pay for those disaster funds?
LABRADOR: Find different ways to do it, absolutely. We have to readjust everything we do.
So Governor Jindal will have to pray that there are major cuts in social programs so that emergency services are provided in order to keep his people alive as Issac hits land, because, the only way the Louisiana will receive any funding if budget cuts happen…and that ain’t going to happen.
According NOAA’s National Weather Service,

Winds of more than 80 miles per hour will be pounding New Orleans. Seven years ago, Katrina did its damage and cost the lives of 1,836 people in the actual hurricane and in the subsequent floods, making it the deadliest U.S. hurricane since the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane; total property damage was estimated at $81 billion.
Now Labrador wants to make sure that no one, including Republican member Jindal, receives any funding, even though Isaac may hit landfall on or before 9 p.m. EST. Amazing how the Republicans in D.C, are willing to sacrifice their constituents as well as party members, so that the corporations they give tax breaks too are quite happy.
Piyush was unable to attend the the RNC Conference in Tampa…gee, I wonder if Piyush will blame the Obama Administration if there is no funding?

So, with that being the case, let’s cut foreign aid to Israel and other countries, and divert the billions saved from being the world’s largest charity fund for sovereign nations into disaster relief for American citizens. Wait? What do you mean that doesn’t count?

Exactly. Israel gets more of our money than anyone, and spends it on weapons and beating down the Palestinians. Cut the military and foreign aid FIRST, end the Bush tax giveaway, end the loopholes for millionaires and make Mitt pay for the privilege of living in this country, instead of sucking her dry, and then and only then, refuse help to Americans in need. GOP=heartless and cruel

Dammit, I predicted they’d do that. What they actually want to do is kill, displace, or otherwise disenfranchise as many youpeople as possible, and blackmailing the rest of the government into cutting social programs is so much gravy. Rush is nothing but a broken-sphinctered orifice that recklessly expells the poison gasses that the others would as soon not have attributed to themselves.

Money to kill more Arabs….not one cent to help Americans in need.
Pathetic.

Killing Arabs? Heck they are killing Christian Palestinians and denying them food, water and medicines, then bulldozing their homes when they aren’t shooting at children. Of course Neti wants his old buddy Mitt in the WH…more aid, and help in bombing Iran. What could be better for the US and the world than that plan?

Bob Cesca reported earlier that when the Obama Administration informed Jindal about how much money he’d get from the federal government for disaster relief, Jindal asked for more. The stupidity of republican politicians is stunning. Jindal has been one of the ringleaders in calling for more tax cuts and being against raising taxes by even one red penny. W(here)TF does he think the federal government gets the money to allocate extra funds to LA? Tax cuts + not wanting to raise taxes under any conditions = less government revenue. It’s basic math! You cannot get what is not available. Serves Jindal right. He’s quick to try to starve the beast and drown government in a bathtub–until he needs the government to assist his state in an emergency. When President Obama asked for increased disaster funding last year, the republicans in Congress cut it! I feel for the people in the states being affected by Hurricane Issac, but I don’t feel for the jackazzez they voted into positions of power. I’ll gladly donate to the Red Cross disaster relief fund, but I have zero sympathy for Jindal or any of the other GOP governors/legislators that are having to deal with the consequences of their own stupidity. I can’t help but recall that Jindal said in 2009 that volcano monitoring wasn’t necessary. At the time that he said it, a volcano in AK was threatening to erupt, and never mind that the ditzy governor at the time was supporting every nutty suggestion that Jindal and the other GOP extremists were supporting.

They are also trying to defund the agencies who track the progress of hurricanes & other natural disasters – not necessary unless it pertains to them, & since most of the Southern States are affected, they’re too ignorant to realize the ramifications of that. Besides, they can always blame the Democrats, even when a GOPTP administration is in control. “Great job Brownie.”
The day after Jindal’s infamous speech about unfunding volcano monitoring, an Alaskan volcano erupted. Were there any screams from the very right wing Alaskans? Of course not. Not a whisper.

Thats the GOP (gods of poverty) for you. Its not the poor people in this states fault, but they are the ones that will be hurt the most, by the ‘pandering’ of the worst congress in history. If it weren’t for those people, i would say give them no disaster funding, until they agree to Not cut any social net programs, and instead raise the tax progressive up to 50% on all that make more than a million and put back capitolgains and carried interest same as income tax. Maybe for once our government should hold them hostage
