Palin Celebrity Fades As Few Show Up At Mall Of America Book Signing
Sarah and Bristol Palin were at the Mall of America today to sign their books…..and only a few people showed up. While they allowed people to show up at 5 AM to wait in line, only a few diehards trickled in to wait for the Palin family, just one day after Sarah Palin’s “The Undefeated” debuted in Iowa.
“I think there were only twenty people…I was kind of surprised by that,” said a Bristol fan.
The Palin family were signing Bristol’s book, “Not Afraid of Life,” and her mother’s “America by Heart” that came out last fall.
Kare 11 has the video:
This chilly reception was written up by MyFox9 as “It seems fitting that the mother-daughter duo received such a warm welcome, since it was here in the Twin Cities that the Palins burst into the spotlight during the GOP convention three years ago.”
This was the kick off of Bristol Palin’s publicity tour for her “memoir”, written at the age of 20.
Here is the list of rules a fan had to go through in order to get their book signed:
No overnight waiting. Line up starting at 5 a.m.
Wristbands will be distributed starting at 6 a.m. to those who buy Bristol’s book
You must have a copy of Bristol’s book to purchase either of Sarah’s books.
Each person must be present to get a wristband. They’re not transferable.
No belongings or bags allowed on stage for the signing.
No memorabilia will be signed; no personalization allowed.
No photos on stage; “cameras and cell phones are to be put away once you reach the stage stairs”
Stay in line. If you leave to use the bathroom or get food for a short period, someone in your party must stay in line at all times.
If you leave for an extended period, you must go to the end of the line.
Doesn’t seem as if they needed all of those rules, since there was hardly a rush. Overall, an estimated 300 people showed up according to the local TV station. This is the free market in its full beauty, for without demand there is no need to produce the product. While the media expresses shock over the low numbers, those who have been paying attention realized that Palin has been failing to draw big crowds for a while now. Her speech in Wisconsin was populated mostly by protesters, for example, and last night at her premiere, we could see the pavement in “crowd” shots just feet away from her.
When both the “celebrity” Palins show up and no one cares, the Palin phenomena is nearing its grisly end. Our long national nightmare is almost over. There’s nothing left to see here but just how crazy the unraveling will be when it finally dawns on Sarah Palin that her brief time as a Hollywood elite is over. It’s all she ever wanted, after all. Sarah Palin settled for becoming a politician when her TV career as a sportscaster didn’t work out. And we see what she did as soon as the national cameras turned her into a star after the 2008 campaign.
There’s no where to go from here except down.
New Update (back where we started basically): After some adjusting based on a link sent from Palin fans, we are back where we started. Here’s how it breaks down: The Star Tribune reports: “The Palins signed about 700 books, but mall officials estimated that 1,500 people attended the event — some merely strolling by and stopping to gaze over the rotunda railing.” As per the rules, 700 books does not mean 700 people (you have to buy Bristol’s book if you want Sarah to sign one of her books). They report “hundreds were there”. If we take the 300 number reported by the local TV and the 700 books, we can estimate about 350-400 people came to see the Palins, plus gawkers. In 2003, 4,000 people came to the MOA to see Hillary Clinton.
Two years ago, 1200 people came to see Sarah Palin in what local reporters call a “vast difference” compared to today’s crowd.

It seems even Minnesotans are wising up…with any luck they will vote Bachmann out next cycle. These two women have done nothing but lie about the media, lie about the President, lie about Levi and babies, lie, lie lie. At a certain point, people get weary of either trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, or listening at all. Praise God…the lights are coming on in some brains in Palinland. Enjoy Alaska and your boys, ladies. Leave the rest of us alone!

Good Grief! A single book signing now has you relegating Sarah and Bristol to has-beens? Let me think about this for a minute. Oh, it’s a Wednesday night in the middle of summer. Oh, the book promotion just started about 1 week ago and, sorry, Bristol doesn’t command the same attention as Sarah. Oh, we didn’t know that Sarah was going to be joining Bristol until, what, yesterday?
Low key makes for a very good event when you’ve never done a book signing before. I would bet that Bristol’s admirers were thrilled when they realized they were meeting Bristol’s mom as well.
Then again, I guess I should take solace in the fact that your piece has drawn next to no comments. I just had to level the playing field a bit.

You leveled nothing as you cant see past the fact that a book signing for sarah used to draw a very large crowd.
Low key makes for a good event for a book release? Low key is the smell of death for a book. People knew Sarah would be there before the 27th. And this was inside one the largest malls in the US
Wait Im sorry, you got leveled on the playing field.

You seem to think that it takes a line around the block to have a successful book tour. Bristol’s book is not going to be a best seller, although by deriding it, you may get the majority of the country to buy it.

HAH! Understatement of the year!! Not only is her book a huge fail, but her mother’s tanking as well. Say bye-bye to your grifter queen and her trash family. Maybe Brisdull can take it on the chin….whoops….my bad! :-)

No I seem to think it takes more than 300 people to see Sarah Plain. That’s why people would go there to start with.
I thought the site didnt have any influence? Now you are saying we can get the country to buy it? the room is spinning here
Listen, I have nothing against Bristol, I used to think she was very beautiful before the chin job. Her mother is nothing more than a grifter trying to squeeze every penny out of the people. SHe diminished herself.

Bristle’s book has already been deemed a failure by the publisher (first week sales less than 2,000), so they dragged Mama Grisly onto the stage – and stipulated that you couldn’t even BUY either of S. Palin’s books there without buying B. Palin’s book first. Would that be called bookmail?

That book is alienating more people than it’s selling. Now the people of Middletown are mad because Bristol said their hotel wasn’t grand enough, and the paper said, “Like mother, like daughter.” This is after Bristol accused the hotel of having cockroaches. Not nice….

It’s great that you’re still supporting Palin, just don’t expect us sane Americans to follow you down that path of insanity. This is what makes America great. We can support, or not support, whomever we desire. Personally, I want Palin to run for president in 2012. I’m very interested in seeing whether she has the courage necessary to face questions from the media to which she doesn’t already have the answers. Talk is cheap, and it’s past the time for Palin to show America some of that thick skin and Mama Grizzliness she has convinced those like yourself she possesses.

I’m with you, I’d love to see $arah run! It would be fun betting how long she’d last before the nervous breakdown.
Someone who can’t even handle Katie Couric and who fled in terror of the MSM, hiding out in her Foxhole/twitter bunker could never handle the pressure of the full on spotlight she’d get running for POTUS.
As much as she and her supporters want to perpetuate the myth that she “took more abuse than any other candidate”, we all know the media was extremely gentle with her, and the only real heat she ever took was due to the dumb things she actually said.
Unfortunately for me and the TV comedians, all we get to look forward to is how long until she admits she ain’t runnin’. :( Personally, I think she’s already waited too long and even her remaining supporters are going to blow a gasket at how they’ve been had.

Good grief! A few people comment negatively on the princess and the loyal bots can’t stand it. With the poor showing of paylin, Inc. as of late, it’s apparent her fax machines are burning up with pleas for her loyal followers to defend her on every left leaning blog. What you seem to miss RD is that your comment is here, your job is complete. You’ll win no one to your side but your opinion is duly noted for all to see. So, so different from the pro-Paylin sites that absolutely ban any liberal comments or any defenses of the President when sweet $carah calls him a terrorist or unAmerican. You do see the difference now don’t you???? Nah, I didn’t think so.

LOL Palin doesn’t need any help diminishing herself. We may engage in meanspirited mockery, but those news reports speak for themselves. They anticipated a LOT more than 300 people showing up.
And no, I’m not counting the gawkers who came for the freakshow and didn’t buy books. I’d guess those were the people who are “appreciating the efforts” of this site.
Sarah Jones

Well, since we get more visitors in an hour than have bought her book in the last week, I’d say the “efforts” of this site are being “appreciated”. Hey, if we went to the MOA, do you think we could get 300 people to show up? I’ve seen more people than that standing around a set to gawk.

It was only a matter of time before the Palins’ irreversible slide into irrelevance took place. The only things noteworthy about them are their greed for the spotlight, their gifts at grifting, and their conspicuously dysfunctional family dynamics. They have no talent to speak of, and SP offers nothing of value to politics, only negativity. I laugh when I hear or read of us “libs” trying to “diminish” the Palins, when I know for a fact that many conservatives are equally disenchanted with them.

She is dumb if she doesn’t know…..the palins criticize everyone every time they open their mouths. Never have I heard a 20 year old whose heart is filled with so much hate. Every day she attacks someone else for the wrongs she thinks she has endured. What has Michelle Bachman or Meghan McCain or President Obama or even Levi said about her in public that caused Bristol to become so bitter and to lash out against them in her daily criticisms. The Palins have lost touch with reality–they think they are at war with the other Republicans. Maybe Alaska is a place where everyone is loaded with rage–a dog eat dog place where residents act more like savages than classy people. $arah seems to think that her kids shouldn’t follow the same rules about how to treat other human beings. My daughter would never get away with pushing people aside and telling them they had ruined my vacation. Piper isn’t a Diva and nothing that she does warrants treating adults like that. Willow and Bristol seem to think that everyone is jealous of their family. Not Jealous–dears, they watch the way your mom and dad treated the woman at the boat harbor; and also the way they bullied that man who was seeing his wife off at the airport–and realize that the Palin family thinks they are entitled and greedy and think they can treat others very rudely. Palins have no idea what it means to be Christians.

Went to YouTube and saw the videos with Palins taunting the man at the Valdez airport. Palins thought they were so cute–both Sarah and Tawdry challenging the man about taking a picture; shoving him; threatening him; and then Sarah walking up to complete strangers at the airport and shaking hands and introducing herself and expecting to be treated as a Diva. These Palins have no idea of how to act in public or how to treat other people. It is all about them.
Then I watched the video with the fisherman’s wife and Willow making negative comments about teachers and Sarah agreeing and laughing. Todd is shoving the man taking pictures of the interaction–the Palins are verbally abusive; and then when the camera crew begins filming they became phoney and dripped with sweetness. Voters are not dumb–all the Democrats would have to do is show these two videos and Sarah would not get a vote from anyone except her loyal fans who toss the money her way or listen to all the false praise piled on this family of hillbillies from Alaska by Greta van Susteren or Sean Hannity. Levi Johnston would be smart not to write a book–public opinion is certainly against Bristol Palin and all the lies she has been caught in and the voters think the comments she is making publicly against him is way out of line. If you don’t have something nice to say about the father of your son, don’t say anything at all rather than trying to poison your son’s mind at a young age.

It’s heartening to see that the media is showing character by staying away from the Palin farce.

Farce is the exact word to describe these two train wrecks in short skirts and high heels. My grandfather used to say that you don’t have to stop a fool he/she will stop himself/herself every time.

I saw a photo posted by the Minnesota Independent that showed a long winding line and stated that 1500 people showed up with 700 book signings. So who is lying? Is the photo an old one or recent. It wasn’t people wandering by but a definite long line. I thought people must be stupid to still be following this bimbo but the photo showed it all. Then I just decided that the folks in Minnesota are a disappointing lot. After all, didn’t they also elect Bachmann?

I think what happened was this: there was no line in the morning, as they expected. There were 20 people waiting. They were there for two hours. in the first hour, there was a line (people had to go through major security and give up their bag, camera, cell, etc). The mall said they signed 700 books, but they had to buy two books at least to get one signed – which means that there were 350 people. Several other news outlets, including the tv station, said there were “hundreds’ of people there, and cited 300 twice. The 1500 came from the mall, and if you read the Star Tribune, they were counting people who weren’t there to see the Palins, some of them didn’t even like them, but were gawking at celebrities. All outlets say that this was not the turn out they expected and it was down considerably from Palins last appearance. There’s no way around that, since before she had people lined up waiting in the morning.

To Wyoming liberal, Please don’t equate all Minnesotans with those who adore Plain.
I can hardly wait till she fades away,to the nothingness from which she came. She and her daughter with the chin. Bachmann is a flake and so was Jessie Ventura.

Bristol Palin has a “memoir” at the age of 20? Most folks wait a little longer and accumulate a lot of significant achievements before they feel that it’s time to look back. What has Bristol done that makes her any more remarkable than any other 20-year-old American young woman, other than get pregnant without bothering to get married, and brag on MySpace about being a slut? This is a role model? This is “American Exceptionalism?” Vomit.

This is just a random thought, but, had this article actually been one paragraph, it would have been much more appropriate as the obituary it actually is …

It seems to me, plenty of people have commented, the rest just don’t care. Palin was a very entertaining oddity, her quirky command of the English language, holy moly, was enough to keep me peeing in my pants for hours, you betcha.
Bristol is famous for what again? Oh yeah, teen knock ups and being unwed. My kids need advice from her like they need a root canal. Palin is yesterdays news, there is a new dummy in town, her name is Michele Bachmann.

Seems as though the repubs. welcome low I.Q. people, especially if they are running for office. Had Palin been a democratic politician, she would have been off the scene long ago. We give dumb people short shrift. McCain should take a lot of responsibility for these grifters. Now Bristol is cutting them down in her “book” Had she written the REAL story of her life, it might have been interesting. How many times has she been pregnant, really? When did she become sexually active? Long before Levi came on the scene, according to people who know her.

soda k. hic did not read the article, or the thread. There were no where NEAR 1500 people there. The Palins, who have actually been failing ALL ALONG, are now failing publicly.
Thank goodness.

My son is 9 and has just decided to write his memoirs. I feel it will be a great read. How he loved breastfeeding, his hatred of Pampers,(they bunch up), his first attempt with training wheels, DAD yells when you get to close to the weed whipper, don’t pull the dogs tail, cats hate water, the dryer is not a spaceship, etc. I can’t wait to edit it…
