5 Kicked Out and 3 Arrested at Paul Ryan Town Hall For Asking Questions
Paul Ryan held his PPV town hall event at Klemmer’s Banquet Hall in Milwaukee. When some protesters who had paid their $15 stood up and asked him questions about jobs and the Bush tax cuts, Ryan not only had them kicked out. He also had three of them arrested.
Here is the video:
The protesters got involved when Rep. Ryan tried to claim that our job crisis is directly related to our debt crisis. One person stood up and asked, “Our debt is out of control because of the tax cuts you’re giving…Our unemployment in 2003 was 6.2% before the tax cuts went through. Now our unemployment rate is 9.1%. What are you doing to create jobs, Congressman?”
This lady was shown the door. She was soon followed by another gentleman. Another woman stood up while Ryan was speaking and said, “You won’t talk to us. How can we give our opinions when you refuse to talk to us?” I think you can probably guess what happened to her. When someone stood up in the back and asked, “Where are the jobs, Ryan?” He mentioned corporations, and was escorted out.
An older man got angry when Ryan mentioned entitlement programs, and said that he paid into unemployment, Medicare, and Social Security for 50 years, and got himself kicked out.
The Wisconsin Jobs Now Twitter stream also documented how Paul Ryan treats his paying customers:
The people were not only kicked out of Paul Ryan’s town hall, but three people were also arrested. When turning his town halls into PPV events didn’t keep the protesters away, Rep. Ryan did the next best thing. He kicked them out, and in some cases, they were arrested. These people paid money to ask Paul Ryan a question, but when the Congressman didn’t like their questions, he had them kicked out.
We have seen House Republicans use numerous tactics to avoid their constituents during the August recess. Rep. John Chabot infamously had the police confiscate the cameras of people who tried to record his responses at an Ohio town hall. The House Republicans may be able to duck and dodge during an August recess, but they will be held accountable on Election Day in 2012.

What part of “hold questions to the end” do these moronic nutjobs not get? Had them arrested? Good. I hope they got beaten on the way to the jail since they aren’t smart enough to comprehend even the simplest of instructions. The lady stand up and yells “who is gonna put food on my table?” Newsflash, jackass, that’s your job. It isn’t Paul Ryans job. It isn’t the governments job. Quit worrying so much about making a scene at a public function and put some effort into your vocation and you won’t have to ask that question. What the hell is wrong with these idiot liberals?

Where were all the arrests when they stood up and screamed disrupting all of the Dems trying to explain Affordable Health Care, at all of the town hall meetings?
These Wing Baggers should be thrown over a cliff.

You people can’t discern between a TOWN HALL with free admission to constituents and a fund raising event where a Rep is a keynote speaker. By your definition, any time a Public Servant is in a public place speaking – be it graduation commencement, Rotary Club luncheon, Lions Club dinner, etc. – by definition it must be considered a TOWN HALL where people are free to stand and interrupt? Who, again, are the intellectually challenged here? But it is nice to see such a cerebral (and totally predictable) justification of “well, Republicans did it too.” No wonder the far left is so completely marginal.

I am prompted to ask, what would conservative Dave say if it was a Democrat who was having people arrested in the same manner?
But then again I have to remember the conservative Dave is in complete approval with having representatives who are totally non-responsive to the people they represent no matter where they are, such as in his office or outside of his office
but then I asked myself, is conservative Dave going to come back day after day and repeat the same exact post?
Conservative Boston Dave
Sep. 8th, 2011 at 12:36 pm
Well, Shiva, since you asked please allow me to respond:
1. It wasn’t a Democrat or Republican “who had anyone arrested”. You see, that’s a nice talking point but, unfortunately, it has no truth whatsoever. Did Paul Ryan tell the police to arrest anyone? No, he didn’t. Try again. Once again, and follow this very closely….the instructions were to hold questions for Mr. Ryan until the end of the event. Once the speech was complete, he would take the audience’s questions. These idiots (yes, I-D-I-O-T-S) had no interest in having a question answered, they just wanted to make a scene so that the video would go viral. If they truly wanted the question(s) answered, why not wait until the end? Regardless, they stood up and shouted and were asked to leave because they VIOLATED THE RULES of the function. They refused to comply with an officers request, and were arrested.
Now, to answer your question…….YES – if it was a Democrat who was speaking and far right idiots couldn’t follow the rules of the function then they should be asked to leave as well. If they failed to comply, they should be arrested. See, people who TRULY want to exact change operate within the rules as to not invalidate themselves. Fringe idiots want to make headlines for being fringe idiots. See the difference?
2. I expect, in fact demand, my elected officials to answer to me if I ask them a question. In as much as I have a modecum of decorum and am an intelligent human being, I can ask my officials the questions I have in a civil manner and extend to them the professional courtesy that their position deserves. Even if I disagree with them, I will respect the position and can ask my questions as an adult and in a manner that reflects same. I expect them to answer. Again, though, nice talking point.
3. Conservative Dave will come back and answer you’re questions or respond to your silly overgeneralizations for as long as you accuse or inquire. If you keep asking the same questions, I will keep giving the same answers. If that constitutes “repeating the exact same post” so be it.
Shiva (Moderator)

These folks couldn’t get a meeting with him, even over the phone? He had no open townhall. Ever heard of no taxation without representation? This guy not only took away their right to collectively bargain (a UN Protected right and a WI constitutionally protected right), but now their taxes are going to be higher because he gave tax cuts to the Koch brothers (there are more ways to tax people than income tax, Dave: see WI property tax rates under Walker). Also, Dave, cut out the smug, obnoxious use of “silly” as a qualifier for other people’s responses and questions to you.
It’s not silly to have opinions and want facts, so for you to be using that word is obviously an attempt to diminish the other person via dressed up ad hominem. He is lucky he’s not dealing with the Tea Party, who think
second amendment” remedies are their right if they don’t LIKE a bill (or rather, their masters at Fox lie to them enough until they think they don’t like it but don’t take away their Medicare or SS). SO, guns and threats and attacks on Democratic representatives homes is patriotic but asking your rep a question after you paid 15 to finally be heard 9 months later after your rights have been taken away from you with NARY a meeting or word to the PEOPLE, that offends you.
Yeah you’re a patriot all right.

Sep. 8th, 2011 at 6:00 pm
No, Shiva, you can be arrested for not complying with a police order. Were they immediately arrested? No, they were asked to leave. They refused. THEN they were arrested. If you need me to source that information, you’re in worse shape than (even I) give you credit for.
I’m fairly certain that the police were there to protect a public servant. You know, kinda like the secret service, police, sheriff, FBI, CIA et al might be present anywhere that our President is exposed in a public place. Is that a police state, too, Shiva? I’m guessing not, huh? But again, nice demogaugery. Have some more Kool-Aid.
Sarah, couldn’t get a meeting? On whos schedule? How hard did they try? But it really doesn’t matter, because even in your indignation you coudln’t resist throwing out unions, Koch, and all the other talking points. That all any of you have and it’s so very sad. I will – unapologetically – call “silly” silly, “stupid” stupid and anything else so blatantly obvious. Case in point: You are obviously very pro-union given your rant. At the same time, you blindly blame “Koch” because that’s the opinion you’ve been spoon-fed by your handlers. Did you know which corporation the union retirement plan is the most heavily invested in? Georgia Pacific. Do a little research to see who owns them. You want to hurt “Koch” and you don’t even know your only hurting those you think you support. My goodness.
And, once again, you justify stupidity by pointing it out on the other side as if that means anything. So sad and yet so typical. Or are those adjectives veiled ad-hominems?

It wasnt a police order to keep questions until the end. Yes they were arrested immediately and they did not have to leave. They paid their way.

Oh, they paid their way so they don’t have to leave? I’m so sorry, Shiva, I was unaware that our laws were that simple. So, lets see…..I’m going to a movie tonight. I’m going to pay to enter the theatre. In the middle, I’m going to stand up and start singing show tunes at the top of my lungs. After all, there is no police order not to do that. So, when I refuse to leave and the police are called – because they will be called – and they ask me to leave and I still refuse and I am subsequently arrested for not complying, should my defense in court be “I paid my way so I didn’t have to leave.” That make sense to you? Should people show up and protest on my behalf with chants of “police state” and tyranny and the like?
What “info” exactly would like me to source? That just because you pay to be present at a public event you DON’T have the right to be disruptive? That you don’t have to abide by the rules set forth by the event? That you don’t have to obey police or security in charge at any given event? That you can’t act like an idiot just because you paid to attend? Are you kidding me?
Move on, indeed.

How do you get charged with Tresspassing when they PAID $15 to get in? This is disgraceful. Did he expect people to just sit there and be lectured and not ask a single question. If i were those people i would sue the crap out of him. This is what the United States is all about. You have town meeting to tell your representative how you feel. So Ryan decides to have to that disagreed arrested. And WHY did this people HAVE TO PAY $15 TO SPEAK TO THEIR ELECTED OFFICIAL. This country is so messed up. I can no wait until the day i retire. May but is going to a small coastal island away from all this hate and stress. I’ll still get my SS but think of all the money the US will save noting having to pay my medical bills. These things used to be illegal. There was a time when 1 person could not own more than 2 radio stations. Reason being they didn’t want 1 person to have too much control of the airwaves. That changed, not sure when. When politicians were on TV or a show, ALL the politicians had to have equal time on the same show. That’s how it should be now. No campaigning (do your job) until 6 months before. All donations are put into a pool and divided equally. Each candidate gets 2 spots a day on TV. This way our politicians don’t feel like they owe anyone something, and it takes the pressure off of the politicians who have to do “favors” for someone.

This is really a horrible story. Those people that were clapping when the people were being led out by police should really be ashamed of themselves. We used to ahve a guy who followed another similar congressman around (John Klein, R-2-MN) wearing a duck costume, and calling on “Congressman Duck-the-voters” to take questions. He would show up at every pseudo-public event where Kline was scheduled to be. Maybe we should start doing that to all the congressmen, Republican or Democrat, who will not talk to their constituents openly and publicly. Republicans have funny shaped mouths. Have you ever noticed how they can talk out of both sides of it? Far right leaning Rethugs claim constitutional rights yet when left leaners want to be heard they shut them down or shout them out.

Ryan is sickening and hopefully the good people of Wisconsin will ditch him next year and the Walker recall can be successful.
Here in the Volunteer State, our dear congressmonster stayed hidden during the recess. Marsha the Moran Blackburn (R-Brainless) did not even bother to race up to Clarksville, (home of 101st Airborne, Air Assault, USArmy – Ft. Campbell, same town) when over 750 soldiers returned from the Middle East. She generally runs up there for a photo-op but the military is sick and tired of the WARS and being on deployment BS for 10 years…..she hid in her gated neighborhood in Williamson County, the wealthiest county in Tennessee) when the VAST MAJORITY of her District is RURAL, UNEMPLOYED, UNINSURED and BROKE.
Last time we saw her was on Faux Noise LYING about lightbulbs that put in under Dubya.
VOTE THE REPIGS OUT. SAVE AMERICA.

When you disrupt a town hall by yelling scripted nonsense about wanting your country back you are patriot.
When have the nerve you challenge your representative on his record you are a criminal.

Ryan had no obligation to let paid astroturfers interrupt a real question and answer session. Most of you are correct. He doesn’t care what you think, and neither does 80% of the rest of the country. The job of a progressive is to phone bank and campaign hard for whoever the democratic candidate is, and then slink back to irrelevance until you are needed at the next election. Get over yourselves.

“Ryan had no obligation to let paid astroturfers interrupt a real question and answer session.”
First, please present evidence that anyone was paid to be there.
Second, doesn’t the fact that they paid the $15 obligate him to answer their questions as well? You managed to contradict yourself in one single sentence (the one above).
I heard real questions, and although they may not have been asked in the most friendly manner, they still deserved an answer.

No one was paid to be there, the people PAID to be there and ask questions. $15.00 a pop
The whole point was that he DIDNT answer the questions.

Remember, NoTurf included in his comment the lie that 80% of the rest of the country agress with him, an assetion for which there is no vredible evidence. Once he started lying, he identified himself as a Republican troll (lying, Republican, go together, etc.) Many of the Republican trolls ARE in fact paid to troll the Internet and disrupt discussions. Since they are the type of people who would do noting without being paid for it, and who would sell their mothers for the right price, they naturally assume everone else is just like them, and hence must be doing whatever only for the money. Hence they cannot imagine that someone might show up at a town hall session because they wanted to ask a question and were not paid.

When 3 teabaggers would stand up at Town Hall meetings of Democrats and sound off there was interminable press coverage about it. Now when it’s happening to Teabag/Rethuglicans not a word on TV “news” or the press. Nor one word about the more than 1200 people who have been arrested in front if the White House protesting the XL oilsands pipeline.

You people are off your rocker. You cannot interrupt an event and expect not to get kicked out. Try shouting “where are the jobs” at Obama while he’s giving his remarks.
There was a time for questions and these 5 children couldn’t wait patiently for their turn to speak. They deserved to get kicked out.

Everyone of them had been reckoning to speak. It was during question time.

Anyone who starts a comment to answer another comment with, “You
people…” is on the cutting edge…Maybe a new pair of shoes will cheer you up, Dan…Why don’t you run off the mall and shop with Sara like a good little republican blogger and let us decide for ourselves what is “un-truthee, un-justice and un-patriarchal”. We’ll call you when we need you, OK?

I think we need some items cleared up from this story. First, this was not a “town hall” meeting put on by Paul Ryan as has been reported. This was the monthly meeting for the Rotarian Club of Greenfield, WI. The rotary club asked Paul Ryan to speak, as they frequently have invited speakers as part of their meetings. The rotary club also charges for these “lunch” meetings, to help cover the actual cost of the meal, as well as provide monies for charitable donations. Paul Ryan had absolutely nothing to do with the price that was charged – that was strictly from the Rotarian club, and standard practice.
The subject of Congressman Ryan’s speech for the meeting was the current debt crisis of the United States – this was not a town hall listen & answer session. When his speech was finished, he did open the floor for questions regarding the debt crisis…
Again, believe what you will on whether or not the “protesters” had the right to ask their questions for a response, but please, let’s report the facts correctly….

At least SOMEONE was getting this story correct. If I pay my $15 to go to a rotary luncheon and to hear the listed speaker, and someone stands up and starts shouting and being disruptive – YES, I would like them to leave! And if they don’t leave, yes, have the police ask them. And if they don’t follow a legal order – ARREST them! Pretty simple, actually.

Wow! If only things were as orderly as the world Paul Ryan imagines. If he had any resilience he would have abandoned his lecture at the first interruption and talked with them, impromtu, off the cuff. You shouldn’t have to PAY $15 to participate in democracy any more that you should to vote for this inert, granite-headed jerk in the first place. God help us all if they think this guy has anything to give us in terms of service or “workable” ideas.

There is an old saying that you get the government you deserve by your vote. So, people of Wisconsin, what are you complaining about? YOU voted for the idiot, so you got what you voted for.
