It’s so refreshing to see how the Left suddenly now respects and admires veterans, when only a couple of years ago they were called otherwise unemployable tools of the fascist state. Babykillers who couldn’t wait to act out their video-game-induced fantasies of killing and torturing brown people in the Middle East. Brainwashed bullies whose after-action jokes and laughter indicated how deeply psychopathic they are.
Does that about cover it, hypocrites?

so, with that broad brush, how’s it feel to know that you supported not having the equipment the troops needed, like water? Or knowing that you don’t give one crap about them when they come home? Or knowing that you support “the troops” in word only? I refer to Republicans voting against funding our troops with necessary safety and life saving equipment, voting against their care when they get home, talking a big game at rallies about supporting the troops but being NOWHERE when they get home and need help retrofitting their house to fit their wheelchair.
Oh, wait, does that sting? Generalizations aren’t exactly fair and they certainly, in the case of your example, aren’t accurate. I love how conservatives cling to the ’60′s. The entire mantra of the left has been “support the troops, not the war”. Get with the program. And you might want to recall that the left was RIGHT about that war – it was based on a LIE. How’s that for supporting the troops?
Also, contrary to your belief system, conservatives don’t “own” the troops. You might want to see how the troops voted, and where their money went. See, they fight for this country – not for you or any party.

Sarah Jones, thank you for such a clear, complete and devastating comeback to one of the low information rightwing trolls. These are the people that dictators learn to target with their propaganda.

Ok so here I am one of the protesters from the 60′s who was against the war then. So do not call me a tool or brainwashed. Ideology is what everyone is arguing not truth. The truth is you never get to the point, any of you left or right its all what you feel by what you have been told by those you deem right by the standard you place in your heart and head. They, those who are in the whitehouse, congress and the house have us so seperated by our ideology’s, they keep right on doing what they do lieing cheating and stealing our freedoms and our childrens future and we only see our neighbors and family as the enemy and as long as they keep us distracted they win. Forget what you think you know and know they keep us seperated on purpose to keep their power and influence, not for our benefit but for theirs alone. Wake up your all tools

Talking about hypocrites you most likely are a Fox News fan. Fox News always loves the troops until they come home and need help from the government. Also, Fox News conveniently left out coverage about the marine in OWS going after the NY cops. I have heard and seen them mention riots and police arrests but hardly anything about the veteran from Iraq being in the hospital because of police brutality. Hypocrites – you say of liberals, LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

Right, being against the war means you hate soldiers. Keep living with your Glenn Beck delusions. If you want hypocrisy- look no further than your presidential candidates. Go troll somewhere else.

As a retired military officer, and hippie/academic, I can assure you that the GOP has done everything possible to leave veterans homeless, helpless and betrayed. The ‘couple of years ago’ I think you are referencing were the youthful decades of Pres. ‘AWOL’ Bush and Mr. ’5 deferments’ Cheney, who lied us into a bogus war.
The current GOP is doing its best to deny retiree pay and benefits the US promised us. Sen. McCain is one of the worst.
Mr. Bolton, who never served his country in any way, is as bloodthirsty as any 14 y. old videogamer. The problem is, his bloodlust has killed real people.

I heard it a long time ago that wars mean that the politicians, bureaucrats, and diplomats FAILED.
I think a politician who avoids war cares far more about the soldiers than one who pushes for it. In fact, supporting war (exception: self-defense and I might, MIGHT agree with stopping genocide or something drastic like that) shows that the speaker is heartless and doesn’t remember that each soldier is a living, breathing PERSON. That each death is a tragedy… not only American lives, but of the “enemy” too.
I’ve always thought that if a politician wants to go to war, his or her children should be put in the front line. If they support war, they should first fight in it.
Thus, the idea of a bureaucrat or politician deliberately getting the US in a war based upon lies is horrific – although sadly, the truth.
It then becomes the LEAST they can do is help the ones who paid the price for THEIR war, but as we’ve learned, conservatives don’t care a thing about ordinary people – only the profits of the rich.

I’ve said it before: Watch out for agents provocateurs, because once the 1% decide to use lethal force, they will employ them to provide justification.

My wife talks of how they sent in agent provocateurs to start riots (LA), and then use the violence as justification to ‘crack down’ on people and destroy housing and property (what wasn’t destroyed by the agent provocateurs and people fed up with abuse). Then, of course, they have to clean things up so they sell the property to the highest bidder…

And at this point, I think the cops need to be considered the 1%. I do not think after seeing the cops around the US in the major cities that the chant you are one of us should not be used ever again. The cops are the CEO’s. They are only obeying the cops at the top who obviously have something to gain. The reason I say this is they side with the 1% and not with the people they have to go home and live next to every night. The cops could have stood down and maintained order without violence. They didn’t

I recommend the protestors sing “I’m Proud to be an American” at the police. Or Disney songs.
Heck – get a group together and do “Thriller.”
Tear gassing singing people does NOT play well on UTube. But it would play often. Maybe even cause a few police to stop and think.

I thought we were the land of the “free”. Didn’t we supposedly go to Iraq to fight for “freedom”?
I can hardly speak about Olsen. Going to war for two tours and then coming home and managing to acclimate is hard enough. Being targeted as he was in a peaceful demonstration is so wrong that there are no words. I agree that most police are not like this, but the ones who ARE need to face harsh consequences.
I hope that the police officer is able to realize what he’s done and has to live with the fact that he shot a brave warrior — who put his life on the line for this country and for the freedom to peacefully assemble — for no reason other than his own dangerous, juvenile fantasy of being a bad ass at “war” against “hippies”. Look how wrong he was.

I hate to say it, because you can’t see it, but here is what it looks like happened: A tear gas canister was fired in the direction of the line of police Scott Olsen was facing. Possibly from police standing behind him? A man ran passing close to Scott. Police may have thought the man running shot the tear gas canister at them and shot at him (the man running), hitting Scott.
Next what happens as protesters rush in to help Scott as he is on the ground is just bizarre: Police throws a flash bang? It makes no sense at all.
The fact the police were present in such force & armed as they were under orders of Oakland mayor Quan means she should be recalled.
Martin MacKerel

“Also, no rocks or bottles were thrown before Olsen was shot, contrary to Police statements. Two angles of footage confirm this.”
Look 44 seconds in. Someone threw a smoke bomb or cherry bomb at the police. That doesn’t excuse the police AT ALL, but let’s be honest.
Adam Crawford

They weren’t throwing smoke bombs, they were throwing tear gas canisters BACK at police who shot it at them.

Oct. 28th, 2011 at 6:42 pm
Exactly! I noticed the same thing. They threw the smoke bomb BACK at police. They did not instigate anything.
The longer the OWS movement goes, the more I support it.
A Liberal will tell you why your argument is wrong.
A Conservatve will tell you why your argument is Liberal.
Conservates have the tendency to draw their conclusions first then work backwards looking for validation. If facts get in the way of the conclusions, the facts are then ignored

I noticed that Mayor Quan backed down from her earlier statements praising the police only after she was subjected to a barrage of outrage from all over the country–much of it from Olsen’s fellow marines. All actions like these accomplish is to strengthen the collective hands of the protesters.
