President Obama Has Had Enough of John Boehner’s Sequester Lies
By: Jason EasleyFeb. 25th, 2013more from Jason Easley
While speaking to the nation’s governors today, President Obama took aim at John Boehner for his hypocrisy on his own tax plan, and the lie that Obama won’t work with him on spending cuts.
Here is the video:
Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
For over a week now, Speaker John Boehner and his office have been trying to sway public opinion on the sequester. The heart of Boehner’s argument is the idea that the sequester should be avoided just with spending cuts, and that President Obama has refused to work with him to make a deal on those cuts.
While speaking to the National Governors Association today, Obama took aim at the crux of Boehner’s argument. The president said, “These cuts do not have to happen. “Congress can turn them off anytime with just a little bit of compromise. To do so, Democrats like me, need to acknowledge that we’re going to have to make modest reforms to Medicare if we want the program to there for future generations…I’ve made that commitment. It’s reflected in proposals I made last year and the year before that, and will be reflected in my budget. And I stand by those commitments to make the reforms for smart spending cuts. But we also need Republicans to adopt the same approach to tax reform that Speaker Boehner championed just two months ago.”
Boehner is not going to win the battle in court of public opinion against Obama. For weeks the Speaker has been concocting various tall tales in an attempt to blame Obama for the sequester. Boehner wants to blame Obama for not acting, while he is trapped by a Republican caucus in the new congress that contains substantial support for the sequester.
John Boehner is a condemned man who is looking to lie his way off of political death row.
Since he doesn’t have the votes to stop the sequester, Boehner has adopted a public strategy of blaming Obama while behind closed doors, House Republican leadership is begging the president save them.
Polling reveals that the public is already blaming Republicans more than Obama for the sequester mess, and those numbers are likely to get worse for the GOP as the president publicly makes his case for avoiding the sequester this week.
It seems like the president has finally grown tired of John Boehner’s endless sequester spin and lies. He is pushing back, and by Friday, it is likely that he and his bully pulpit will have buried John Boehner and the Republican Party.

Boehner and the good old boys have made it very clear that their only job is to destroy the POTUS. Totally unacceptable behavior on their parts and they should all be so ashamed and disgusted with themselves. I have never seen so much racism and hatred as I have seen coming from the Repubs. They will let this country fail in order to try and complete their agenda against the President. They only care about their 1 or 2% super rich buddies. I don’t understand how they can feel good about anything that they have done or keep trying to do. Absolutely disgusting!!!

The spending cuts are akin to a rounding number to the overall deficit. If these cuts can’t be managed we’re in worse shape than any of us could ever have imagined. Sheesh, what a soft country we’ve become. This is on you Mr. President, the people can be fooled for so long. For once, just for once, stop the campaigning, the fear mongering and rhetoric, roll up your sleeves, call a summit meeting with Congress and work out a deal or let the sequester kick in.

Havent you been paying attention?Quoting the Booman John Boehner has already told everyone, including Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, and Barack Obama, that his caucus isn’t going to budge on the Sequester until after it kicks in and starts causing real pain. He doesn’t have a strategy beyond that. Everyone knows that this is what he’s going to do, so anytime you see someone call for negotiations or compromise, they are either positioning themselves politically or they are actually referring to some time in the future, meaning March. So what good is
it to roll up your sleeves when the answer is NO!
I KNOW THIS,THE PRESIDENT KNOWS THIS, HELL ANYONE PAYING ATTENTION KNOWS THIS.The ONLY PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW THIS ARE PEOPLE WHO GETS A WOODY OVER TEMPER TANTRUMS

LoL at linking a left-wing website to prove any argument is like linking a right wing website to prove its counter. STUPID.
You do understand that Obama got his tax increase? Now he wants to increase taxes more? That is like your kids saying they will clean their room if you give them $10. Then after giving them $10 they say they will clean it for real if you take them to the store so they can spend it. Then they say they will really, really clean their room after they enjoy what they bought for a few hours.
The time has come for Dems to what they said they would do, CUT SPENDING. Until that happens, go ahead and cut my Federal paycheck by 20%.

Obama has been cutting spending. HIs spending this year is lower than the years past. you are not a rich person’s or you wouldn’t be here.
In fact have you ever heard of the deficit reduction plan of 2011? Why do you ignore the spending cuts that Obama has put on the table that the Republicans wont even talk about? Why do you approve of spending cuts that only affect the poor and the lower middle class? why do you approve of cuts with no revenues? You can cut spending all you want but that will not pay off the deficit without revenues.

They forget the 10th Amendment even exists, or have been taught to ignore that it exists. You know, that pesky little Amendment that sets the liberal argument of the Constitution being a limiting document on its backside.
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
In other word: If the Constitution does not grant the Power to the Federal Government, it is belong to the States, or the People.

It wasn’t the president who decided on no more negotiations with CSPAN present, it was the republicans. They made this decision after President Obama wiped the floor with them in 2010 when he met with them to discuss the Affordable Care Act. It was John Boehner who declared last month that he’d “never negotiate with the president again.” It has been the republicans who have walked away from every negotiation they’ve ever been in with the president. It is the president who has been calling them requesting they meet with him to solve this sequester issue, and their patented response has been a resounding, “NO!” You really should get your facts right before trying to push RW lies here, because we are well-informed about what goes on in the national government, and it bears NO resemblance to the RW talking points you’re using to foul up this thread.

In 2014 lets bury the Republican party for good. They are a bunch of old white (I am white) grumpy men and women who do not give one penny of thought to 98% of us. They want it to be like it was in 2004 when the citizens of our great country actually bought the lies they told. Well we are finally waking up and those dumb jerks still are telling the same lies, but we as citizens of the United States are finally waking up, its kind of like a long marriage when you find out your spouse has had an affair for 8 years and you just thought he or she was working late. Now the truth is out and instead of an apology we get more lies. Well there is a way to fix both situations. I want the Republicans to be sitting on the side line in 2015 wondering what they should have done different as we fix everything they screwed up. Maybe just maybe they will see that they saddled the wrong horse and they will change… but I doubt it

You do realized that you got a permanent tax break in Jan? Yep. The GOP got the 99% the Bush tax-rates permanently implemented. You are welcome. But then again, you are not happy that the 1% got to pay 3% more, or roughly 100x what the average tax payer paid into the IRS in 2012.
What do they get for the extra donation? Your’s, and every other liberal/progressive’s, derision. Here are some things they will never get, but they are the ones paying for it:
- Unemployment,
- Medicare,
- Medicaid,
- Food stamps,
- and more…
Some how, I think, if someone came up to you on the street and gave you $2,000; you would bitch and complain that they should give you $20,000.

okay, you like the fact that someone in the 1% pays a much lower tax rate than you. We get it. You feel sorry for the 1%. they pay 15% or less while others pay up to 30%. Look at our dear Mr. Romney, he didn’t pay taxes from 1996 on. And I feel oh so sorry for him. Don’t you?
If the 1% doesn’t like paying for Medicare and Medicaid in the rest, then they should do what John Boehner says they are, create jobs. The more people working the less people on these nasty things that you note.
it doesn’t matter how much they put in. You say they put in roughly 100 times more than the average payer paid in, but they are also well more than 100 times wealthier than the average taxpayer. I think you’re trying for the wrong group of people.
The GOP didn’t get anything for the 99%. They fought against it every step of the way.

I hope everyone got to see the leading Congressional Rebulican Female on CBS News this morning. They asked her if she understood the entire country is going to hold the republicans resonsible for the sequester and she said, Obama needs to get off the campaign trail. So they asked her again about the polls that show a huge margin of this country is pointing at the republicans, and she said the sequester was Obama’s idea, so they asked her if the Republicans will sit down and get a deal hashed out and she stumbled and bumbled her way through it. It was blatantly obvious that she doesn’t believe what she has been directed to say. It was funny and sad at the same time. It was plain as day that she knows her party is wrong but she kept trying to spin it off on Obama and it was not even close to working. The American people don’t need a “sequester.” If you want to completely dismantle the Republican Party and take the blame for hurting the people and the programs that are in dire need, go ahead with your “sequester.”

No matter what happens.. Dont forget who the president is. Look how many green power companies he has killed off. Look at the financial troubles Tesla is in.. Look at Deep water horizon, for those who dont know.. Obama was highly funded by BP… GM is going to need another bail out.. Our Deficit is worse than ever before and Obama promised to have it cut in half. He also said and I quote “If I do not fix the economy in my first 3 years, I will be a one term president.. That is on promise I wish he had kept.. Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.” .. And you Obama fans voted for him a second time…

0 complaining about the sequester and blaming republicans is like a man setting his house on fire and then blaming the firemen because his house burned down. The sequester and the particular cuts it calls for is a plan formulated by 0 and his senior advisors…..particularly Lew. 0 signed it into being. The House has passed 2 alternatives to the sequester neither of which the Senate has voted on ~ thanks to Harry Reid. I thought nothing would ever surprise me more than the idiocy of an electorate who would vote 0 in ~ twice no less. But a citizenry that believes 0′s manufactured crisis and blame game over and over is truly pathetically moronic…………

It would seem to me that if you are spending more than you make, you don,t go out complain that the boss is underpaying you, you cut back your spending. I hear about all the threats of lay-offs. Why don,t we cut elected officials salaries by 40% and their retirements by 60% and let them buy their own health care, like we do. No sequester.

The sequestration cuts represent just one half of one percent of federal spending. If you make $100,000 a year, that’s a $500 cut in a year-$42 per month. We’ve all cut our budgets more than that – why can’t the federal government? To make it worse, it’s a cut to an INCREASE in spending- they will still be spending more than last year.
I’m really tired of this administration’s “the sky is falling” approach to everything…

Then how can you expalin that deficit is going down and has been for 3 years?
You have some luxury of setting up at 50,000 feet and looking down, but not looking at how much money that actually is and what cuts will occur. You have given nothing to dispute what the administration says will happen. While you are looking up your data, remember much of what the WH says comes from the CBO

get off the Obama blaming, Its the Republicans that are saying no not the Dems and Obama. Republicans were always takers from poor and The Dems are always givers. the republicans should get off their high horses start saying yes To Obama and end this sequester. Stop being such big babies about their riches and share the wealth and help people instead of trying to kill the poor children and old people with sickness and hunger.

Well folks you are talking about getting gouged by oil companies at the pump. The oil companies make 7 cents per gallon profit. The federal tax on a gallon of unleaded gasoline is 46 cents. Uhhm who is making grotesque profits on this?

Obama doesnt have to submit a budget. A president submits a wish list that can be approved or ignored by the House.

In 2011 the president was for sequestration but now that he was reelected he is making this a Republican thing. Why can’t he ever take the blame for his work? Because the do nothing congress is exactly what he was about when he was a senator. He voted present over 200 times and not yes or no. Coward!
