Press Wakes Up to Romney’s Lies, Says There’s ‘no excuse’ for ‘astonishingly misleading’ Jeep Ad
The Romney campaign has jumped the lie shark with their new ad slyly building on the lie that Chrysler is moving Jeep jobs to China. Romney told this easily disproven falsehood to Ohioans at a rally last week. Chrysler pointed out that a “careful and unbiased” understanding “would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments.”
When asked to comment on Romney’s claims, the Romney campaign at first refused to comment and then defended the lie with an already debunked Bloomberg article that everyone knows is wrong. The press is not impressed. It seems they have finally met a lie they can’t excuse.
Here’s a roundup from OFA of the brutal reaction:
Detroit Free Press: “Not only was the story wrong, Romney took criticism for not knowing better and repeating it without questioning it.”
Toledo Blade: “‘The latest Romney ad, I will grant you, is a clever play on words to avoid saying things that are utterly false,’ Mr. Rattner said, referring to a new Romney ad out today. But he said the implication of the ad is ‘just not true. Chrysler is adding people. It’s made major investments in the Toledo Wrangler plant.’”
Huffington Post: “Where the ad goes from misleading to something more nefarious is in the text it shows. At one point, it displays a line from a Bloomberg story stating that Chrysler “plans to return Jeep output to China,” the implication being that the company is moving operations there as opposed to expanding operations that are already there.”
Wall Street Journal: “So far, the Romney campaign hasn’t issued a public statement on the flap.”
Sam Stein @samsteinhp i asked this morning and am still waiting this evening: anyone have a sound defense of this Romney Jeep ad?
Ron Fournier @ron_fournier Nope “@samsteinhp: i asked this morning and am still waiting this evening: anyone have a sound defense of this Romney Jeep ad?”
Ben White @morningmoneyben Wait, not only did Romney camp not back off the erroneous Jeep to China canard, they made an ad out of it? My god
Ben White @morningmoneyben @davidshepardson it’s astonishingly misleading
David Shepardson @davidshepardson @morningmoneyben I agree many people will assume ad means Jeep sending US jobs to China
Joe Vardon @joevardon Wait, Jeep isn’t considering moving manufacturing to China? But Romney said in Ohio … bit.ly/ScsbsY
McKay Coppins @mckaycoppins There’s really no good explanation or excuse for it. Mitt Romney’s Jeep ad is misleading. Full stop.
Tim Dickinson @7im”Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China” on.freep.com/VRbWVD

ThinkProgress @thinkprogress Is the new Romney ad on the auto bailout the most dishonest one this cycle? thkpr.gs/RdUgMh #probably
Travis Waldron @Travis_Waldron Mitt can’t tell the truth about GM/Chrysler, because the truth is simple: At every turn, he was wrong.
Sam Stein @samsteinhp The Romney campaign did defend the Jeep ad to me, by citing the Bloomberg piece that has been called wrong by Jeep huff.to/PAZCWY
Blake Hounshell @blakehounshell OK, @CitizenCohn has persuaded me: this is pretty despicable www.tnr.com/blog/plank/10… …
Andrew Kaczynski @BuzzFeedAndrew Interestingly, this Romney ad cites the Detroit News, which also debunked the Jeep production moving to China claim. youtu.be/kVv6w0EC7Qs
Josh Greenman @joshgreenman Who’s acting desperate now? www.tnr.com/blog/plank/10… …
Kurt Eichenwald @kurteichenwald Do GOPers believe Romney when he repeatedly says Chrysler’ moving jeep job to china, when company says it’s a lie? He’ll say anything to win
A few headlines:
Detroit News: New Romney ad: ‘Italians’ plan to build Jeeps in China
Detroit Free Press: Romney returns topic to auto industry bailout, his weak spot, in crucial swing state Ohio
Detroit Free Press: Romney camp silent on his Jeep-to-China gaffe

Toledo Blade: Romney tweaks Jeep production to China claim
CBS: Romney cites incorrect auto manufacturing claim in Ohio
The Hill: Chrysler: Romney is wrong, Jeep not leaving US for China
NBC: Politics of auto bailout haunt Romney in Northwest Ohio
Huffington Post: Mitt Romney Releases Auto Ad That Misleads On Facts
Think Progress: Romney Auto Bailout Ad Tells Four Myths In 30 Seconds
The New Republic: A Desperate, Deceptive Gambit for Romney in Ohio
The truth is that Chrysler is not moving its Jeep production from America to China. In fact they are adding jobs, “Chrysler Group announced that it will invest $500 million at the Toledo Assembly Complex (Ohio) for the production of the next generation Jeep® SUV in 2013. As a result, the Company will add a second shift of production or about 1,100 jobs in the third quarter of 2013.”
The press is confused by Mitt’s mendacity, especially the conservative Detroit News, which endorsed Mitt only to find him lying about their area of expertise — the auto industry. They were shocked when they tried to get the Romney campaign to comment on Romney’s Jeep lies and the campaign blew them off and then continued to tell the lie. Yes, this is the candidate they endorsed for President.
This is hardly Romney’s first go at ignoring facts. Mitt Romney makes his own reality and is outraged if you point to facts because they are not facts in Mitt Romney’s book. Romney is the sole decider of what is a fact and what is not in Mittland.
Is anyone concerned yet?
Here’s the Romney campaign’s desperate attempt to rewrite “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” in Ohio:

You’ve mentioned a couple of times now that the “conservative” Detroit Free Press has endorsed Romney. It’s actually the conservative Detroit News that has endorsed Romney; the (weak tea) liberal Free Press has endorsed Obama. I get that with the joint operating agreement, the News and the Freep are run by the same folks, but they do maintain separate editorial orientations.

Also just saw this and had to comment: I just saw on upper left hand of this page that it’s said there is no more serious issue in a campaign than trust. How can you trust Obama after all the lies he has told, all the lies told about the deaths of the four in Libya is enough for me to distrust him if I didn’t already do so. Wake up, Dems. He has ulterior motives and not in our best interests.
A lot of what is said in the posts/comments I thought at first was about Obama so your “saint” is not so to a lot of us. If ever I didn’t trust someone it is Obama. The truth will come out and you will see.

Funny you should talk about the “Truth” since it is the Republican motto to lie often and repeatedly to convince the IDIOTS that we are For The People. Which of course we all know that’s a bunch of bull. Romney doesn’t care about you unless you are in the 1% financial wealth. Beware of where you work he may be coming for your company and take over and fire you! If that doesn’t scare you it should. “WE NEED TO FIRE ROMNEY/RYAN BEFORE THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO FIRE US! (MoveOn.org pink slip event.)There was nothing the President could have done to stop the incident in Libya. And he is doing everything in his power to get those responsible. Get your facts straight!

Apparently White Anglo Saxon neo-Conservative Christians and right wing racists (they can both be one of the same), these people are his base.
They probably know Romney LIES, but that would not deter them from voting for him. These people are not necessary pro-Romney, but they are certainly anti-Obama.

Why are we so suprised that Mitt will not issue a statment that he lied. Lying has gotten him this far, why should he stop now.
Remember Hilter, he lied to his people and you see what that got them. I am not saying that Romney is another Hilter, but desperate people will believe anything. And we the US public will pay the price for those who can’t hold on and wait.
Change is hard folks it has never been easy, we are a country of I want it now, why do I have to have patients? Well faith is the substances of things hoped for people. Remember the Pres book the Audicity of Hope.

“Lying has gotten him this far, why should he stop now.”
This is so, so true. By any rational measure, Romney should have been ferociously slammed after the first debate because he lied and lied and lied. Yet he was proclaimed the winner and praised for how he presented himself.

Romney is desperate; no Republican has ever won the presidency without winning Ohio. Mendacious Mitt must have hoped he would not be fact-checked by the corporate media, whom he believes to be drinking his bathwater, so he could double-down on his Let Detroit Go Bankrupt op ed by claiming it said something other than what he meant in 2008 and every campaign stop until the debates.
The only difference now is the people who should know better are beginning to take notice.

My wife has never changed her voter’s ID, so she’s still registered as Republican (but votes liberal Democrat).
Somehow they got hold of her personal cell phone number, and it’s been ringing off the hook with robocalls, trying to get Republicans out and voting. She’s taken to just not answering the phone because once they start, you can’t turn it off (and if they’re like the ones I remember from 2010, you hang up and then pick the phone up several seconds later to make a call and it’s STILL going).

The scripture said that there are 6 things God hates. Seven that are abominations before Him. For both hate and abomination a lying tongue and a false witness are given. Then is further states that if one follows a lying tongue or false witness destruction shall/will fall on one shoulders. Being not to push religion or christian views on anyone (believe what one wants to believe) this seems straight forward. The question then remains why M. Romney knowingly lies? It is factually noted that he knows that he is lying. One hope that he is not that mental damaged that he does not know. That only leaves only one possible answer. We are the non-believers. For all of his years on this earth he has been programmed to believe that we are the non believers, the infidels. Like the Muslim belief and certain other religious beliefs lying to the infidels is accepted if not encouraged. if this is an accepted premise, then it is left up to one to determine, not his lying tongue or him being a false witness since that is already factually proven. One now must search their belief system. Something that when mixed with politics spells trouble. In that reasoning one feels that this is pure intent of Romney’s lying in the first place. A confused person that don’t have the determination for truth is a person that would vote for the devil if he scream loud and long enough…. Hence, lying to them long and loud enough they will forget and probably vote against their own beliefs…. The Law of Probable Returns… a true business model….

Romney should be made accountable for the Chrysler Advertising. This man will go to any length to make his way to the White House.
There are people who actually believe all these lies simply due to the fact they do not listen to the honest stations or read the honest newspapers.
The media should really make the Chrysler lie a huge head line – Romney has a very very big pathalogical problem. He is a danger to the States not an asset !!!!!

Unless I’m mistaken, the picture above was taken when Rmoney used the deaths fo 4 American embassy members to take a shot at the president on Sept. 11th, after they had both agreed to suspend hostilities/campaigning for the day. That look on his face, plus the infamous smirk is all you need to know from a man who thinks that people are nothing but props to be sacrificed to his ambition. The GOP and Fox Mews are joined at the hip–an unsavory symbiotic relationship in which no lie goes untold. They believe they can win by being the anti-Obama, nothing else counts, and their base is ready and willing to believe anything they’re told by Fox talking heads. In short, they believe they can lie faster than we can fact check.

It’s amazing how liberals jump all over a ‘lie’ that is a poorly used Bloomberg quote. Remember during the Bush/Kerry election how important the issues of college grades and transcripts were? Where are Obama’s? Why is he keeping them sealed? Liberals demand past tax returns from a Republican candidate yet 4 years later we still have no idea what is in Obama’s college transcripts. Go ahead and flame me all you want- you all know I’m right.
