Rachel Maddow Slams Romney for Lying About Jeep Moving Production to China
By: Jason EasleyOct. 28th, 2012more from Jason Easley
On Meet The Press today, Rachel Maddow used the lie about Jeep moving production to China to slam Romney for having a truthfulness problem.
Here’s the video:
Maddow used Romney’s recent Jeep fearmongering to drive the point home that Romney has a problem with telling the truth, “On the integrity issue, on the trust issue, Mitt Romney this went to Defiance, Ohio and told a group of 11,000 people “Jeep is about to move all of their production overseas. I read that somewhere. Jeep is going to move all of its production–” Not at all true. It’s okay for a candidate to make a flub, but not to correct it, to not say “I was wrong about that.” The campaign was asked: “Are you sure the candidate meant that because that doesn’t seem to be true?” No response clearing that up from the campaign. There’s been a truthfulness problem with the Romney campaign that connects even to the very basic issues like the economy in the states where it most matters.”
The Jeep moving to China lie has been causing a major headache for Chrysler. After Romney utter his Great Jeep Lie, Chrysler put out a statement telling the world that Romney was wrong, sloppy, and biased, “Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China. It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world’s largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation. A careful and unbiased reading of the Bloomberg take would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments.”
This hasn’t stopped Romney from repeating the claim, and upping the ante by releasing a misleading television ad centered around a something that isn’t true.
After the final presidential debate, Rachel Maddow called Romney’s avoidance of his own previous positions, “a character issue” that should disqualify him from office. A little over a week ago, Maddow looked at Romney’s position(s) on abortion, and concluded that the Republican candidate had adopted a strategy of blatant lying in order to get elected.
It took Rachel Maddow a while to come around and understand that Romney isn’t gaffing or flubbing. The man is intentionally not telling the American people the truth about what he really stands for. Since she has come to this realization, she is one of the few mainstream media members who is constantly hammering away on Romney’s unwillingness to be honest.
The central issue of this election isn’t Mitt Romney’s positions on the issues. It isn’t his record, or his time at Bain. The biggest issue concerning Romney is nobody has any idea what he stands for, because he continues to reinvent the truth to fit his needs. Romney shares the policies of George W. Bush, but he hasn’t been as open as Bush was about what those policies are.
Romney’s truthfulness problem is what has allowed him to be competitive with Obama, but it is also the very thing that could cost him victory on Election Day.

After finding out what a cruel and cynical liar Willard Romney is, anyone who worked at Sensata or who works at any of Chrysler’s locations who still wants to vote for Romney is a sandwich, a beverage, and fries short of a Happy Meal. I can only wonder why anyone would vote for a man who has outsourced American jobs to other countries or would deliberately lie about such a thing. In addition to speaking volumes about his lack of integrity or empathy, it speaks volumes about the willful ignorance or rank stupidity of those non-wealthy folks who still want him in the White House.

I agree and would add I cannot understand how anyone dem or republic could believe anything he has to say. You’ve got to ask yourself,if this person was someone you just met on the street not running for POTUS and started telling outrageous stories about any subject when he finished talking in your heart you knew he was lying all along. COULD or WOULD you walk away believeing ANYTHING knowing he LIED? ? This is the part I don’t understand some people are so RACIST the lies being told don’t matter as much as COLOR and YOU the people call this AMERICA the land of the FREE. VOTE FOR DEMOCRACY NOT FOR RACISM

This is the truth. Once fiat, which has controlling stock of Chrysler does this, do you think they will continue to build Jeep at $25.00 plus dollars an hour per employee or $1.00 plus per hour per employee in China? Given this presidents weak stance on china I think our Jeeps will fall the way of Hummer.

Jeep will stay here. The only Jeeps built overseas will be the ones that will be sold there
The presidents stance on China has nothing to do with where chrysler builds vehicles. I would rather have Obama in office then the guy who sent millions of our jobs overseas

Yes The Evil Bain Capital that saved Toys R Us, Sports Authority, Guitar Center, Gymboree, Staples, Dominos Pizza, The Weather Channel, Burger King, Sealy Mattress, Brookstone, Burlington Coat Factory, and Dunkin Doughnuts. All those are overseas jobs that they have saved. All the employees of these companies probably add up to more jobs than Obama created in the private sector in 4 years.

yes the evil Bain capital. Here you are comparing Bain capital’s heyday under a good economy to an economy that Obama inherited That was worse than anything we’ve had in 70 years. That’s pretty smart isn’t it. You totally forget about all the corporations that Bain harvested and the jobs lost by trying to justify that by the ones that they saved. It doesn’t work that way.
complete bull.

Let’s not forget the economy of the late 1970′s. I guess we could argue that economy was on the verge of the Great Depression as well? Is Romney the only person to ship a job overseas? I could argue every time someone buys a product made in China. They ship jobs overseas.

you continually run. You are comparing Bain capital to the president. You gave examples, all examples of corporations that were helped under a far better economy than we have now. But you have to run to other economies. And then you run to is Romney the only one to ship jobs to China? Complete and utter bull
do you remember speaker Boehnerwho said that government does not create jobs( until Romney started running on creating 12,000,000 jobs which case he quit)? Why don’t you ask yourself why a president has to concern himself with creating jobs? Is that his job or is that the private market?
The convenient thing you forget to mention is, Bain capital would’ve eagerly gobbled up any one of those companies that you mentioned had they seen any evidence of weakness. Bain capital made millions out of those companies and that’s what they are in business for. Not job creation.

In another potential blow for the president’s Ohio reelection campaign, Jeep, the rugged brand President Obama once said symbolized American freedom, is considering giving up on the United States and shifting production to China.
Such a move would crash the economy in towns like Toledo, Ohio, where Jeeps are made and supplied, and rob the community of the economic security they thought Obama’s auto bailout assured them.
Obama is such a fan of Jeep that he included a picture of himself speaking at the Toledo plant in his newly released second term agenda binder. In his address to the plant in 2011, Obama said, “I just took a short tour of the plant and watched some of you putting the finishing touches on the Wrangler. Now, as somebody reminded, I need to call it the ‘iconic’ Wrangler. And that’s appropriate because when you think about what Wrangler has always symbolized. It symbolized freedom, adventure, hitting the open road, never looking back.”
Well it appears that the taxpayer bailed-out Chrysler is looking back and now considering cutting costs by shifting production of all Jeeps to China, which has a strong desire for Jeeps.
In a Bloomberg interview, Jeep’s president said the automaker plans to restore Jeep production in China, suspended in 2009, and is considering making all Jeeps in China. “Fiat SpA, majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers’ operations in the region,” reported the business wire service.
Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia and president of the Jeep brand, told Bloomberg, “We’re reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity” as well as “should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio” to China.
Chrysler builds Jeep SUV models at plants in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Manley said the firm is in talks with…

the subject here is whether or not Jeep is moving to China. It’s pretty obvious that you will not accepted Chrysler’s word for it that they are only looking at capacity in China to build their if requirements require it. It’s not up to Obama. It’s pretty obvious that your hate helps you do the same thing that met Romney has done and that’s purely continue the lie even after Chrysler has said it is not moving any capacity out of the United States.

Could you imagine if a Democrat told a lie like this?
We need a liberal station like Fox to counter the lies told by republican.
And also a man who supposedly loves the US, but keeps his money OUT of the US?
Who has not released his tax returns?

Well, I said it on the night of the last debate: in journalism these days, only the women have balls.
By the way, that’s “pantywaist”, a garment worn by Victorian children, which was a kind of constructed undershirt (waist) to which little kids’ underpants and (in the case of girls) stockings and petticoats were buttoned. Once reliable elastic came into use, the pantywaist became obsolete. Panties would be wasted on these guys.

But the rightwing blogosphere is not even aware of Mitt’s shifting tales.
No, they are all atizzy about how they are going to impeach the President for ‘killing 4 Americans” in Libya, because evidently he was the head of a huge plot to kidnap our Ambassador so he could hand over some Muslim Brotherhhood guy and that;s why the calls for help were ognored and why the GOP denied funding for more security and why teh Obama adminsitration does nothing but lie. No kidding, Breitbart is alive and well and still spinning fantasy that these people (including a couple of angry relatives) are eating up. Never mind that were any of it true, the media would not be ignoring it. There is a reason only Fox, Beck and Breitbart have this ‘story.’ Meanwhile, they are so anxious to get ‘our White House’ back from that mean black usurper, they will buy anything the right sells them. Pitiful.

Rightwingers are notorious for DARVO: Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. Who would have *really* benefitted if the Ambassador had been kidnapped and held hostage by Mooslamic terrorists? Who said he’d love another hostage crisis, like the one Reagan benefitted from? Think about it.

I remember that one, and how there were rumors going around that the Republicans had arranged for them to keep the hostages until Carter was gone.
Knowing how crooked and underhanded the Republican leadership is, I now believe it. (I also remember all the cries about “dishonest Democrats”, and believe that was also DARVO/projection – they’ve been practicing for decades.)
The whole timing of the thing WAS always a bit suspicious to me, but at the time I was too brainwashed by the damned churches to pay the appropriate attention.

Lawrence O’Donnell and Ed Schultz have also pointed out what a liar Romney is. The rest of NBC/MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN – not so much. Rachel understands the impact of these lies on the average American voter. Most do not pay that much attention and are too lazy or too apathetic to check the facts and find out what the truth is. That is the main reason that someone like Romney can get away with such bald-faced lies. And of course, there are many who hate President Obama for being black and,or being a Democrat. For them the lies do not matter.

Oct. 30th, 2012 at 11:04 am
The important thing to remember is that most of the churches have succeeded in deeply brainwashing their followers/sheeple. They’ve turned “Socialism” and “Communism” into thought-stopper words, and words like “pagan”, “non-Christian”, “Atheist”, and “Gay/Lesbian” into triggers for as a friend of mine puts it, “5 minute hates”.
For a lot of them, especially of the Pentecostal/Southern Baptist ilk, you can also add minorities to the “5 minute hate” list.
The people who support the Republicans have been subjected to thought control. Either that, or they’re rich and have a vested interest in Romney – because they don’t give a single damn about ordinary people (the norm for the rich).

although i believe that there are things that can be tweaked with some of the obama issues such as health care. i do believe we are going forward. no one cared or tried to stop bush for 8 years in office when things began going really wrong, but my how they refuse to let anything pass in office without a fight now. the republicans (not all) are having their own fight and it has nothing to do with helping the great people of america who are trying to make this a better world for themselves and our children. i myself feel that things have bottomed out and things are starting to look better not great but better. i see less for sale signs, ive seen more people buying homes, i’ve seen a lot more road work and bridges being taken care of which means somebody has a job, not to mention it’s great that my tires are being ruined. i’ve passed by malls that a few years ago hardly had any busy. just last week i noted that the parking lots were full, it was hard finding a place to park. the food courts were filled. every year at my job during the bush years at christmas time a group of people lost their jobs (merry christmas). anyone who thought that everything would be fixed in 4 years regardless of which party held office was surely disillusioned. it’s hard to get your personal finances back to where they were before all heck broke loose, but it’s trying to get there. yes, our children need more good teachers and smaller class sizes, they are the future they need to be educated well, for we will be relying on them soon to take care of our needs and those of their children. my child can’t borrow money from me like romney suggested because i myself am trying to keep afloat. and did everyone forget about occupy wallstreet, how many people lost jobs during this phase of the republicans trying to get the deficit down. and yes that was the priority. not help the people and get balance the budget. romney is a puppet and a bold faced liar, listen and read. make the better choice…

Why didn’t David Gregory ask Gov. Kasick about the statement that Romney made about Jeep moving productions to China?
I think Meet The Press needs a new moderator, one who will ask relevant questions and then follow them up. All Gregory does is ask questions that let
them spin and obfuscate.

You’ve heard of changing fonts, I hope? If you have a visual problem, don’t punish us for it. I believe Windows has modules for the visually impaired – USE THEM.
I also refuse to read what you typed. Use caps only for emphasis on words or phrases, or use bold.
Maybe it’s easier for you to read, but it’s considered rude to use all caps – that IS considered the equivalent of shouting at the top of your lungs – in a quiet room (maybe even a library).
I’m not a mod, otherwise I’d insist – and even delete the post and request you do it again without the caps.

HONEST – A mind once stretched by a less than an honest idea never regains its original dimensions!AJP
KEEPING IT THOUGHTFULLY HONEST: A number of Romney statements by his campaign are not half truth nor distortions but in simple English, they are Lies!! Remember when elections were about a candidate’s core beliefs and positions based upon factual true substance? This principle was true when I took Speech/debate class in college! I have a question. Yet in the first debate when a so-call professionally responsible national press gave a PASS to a candidate that told lies or conveniently distorts his previous positions without being held responsible or asked to explain his conflicted statements? I find this media low standard both hypocritical and dishonest! I was raised in home community where if you failed to tell the truth, it was called a dam lie or bull sh-t, not that my Lie was “clouded, reframe or pivoted!”But then, my setting was culturally diverse, not with press folks that accept “white lies!” THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH: Many of us feel both our intelligence as well as ethics is being insulted by this lack of focus on the integrity for responsible reporting of facts! Water Cronkite, Edward R. Morrow, Michael Wallace, Tim Russert, Peter Jennings, Ed Bradley, all of them are probably rolling-over in their graves! Hey, Bob Schieffer, Wolf Biltzer, Jorge Ramos, Jose Diaz Balart, Brian Williams, Eliot Spitzer, Scott Pelly, Ted Kopple, Bill Moyers, Fareed Zalaria, Candy Crowley, Dan Rather, Leslie Stahl, Tom Brokaw, Barbara Walters, Chris Wallace how about it? Why is Media more concerned about being politically correct? As result, have you noticed the boldness of Romney and Rove campaign to double down on their lies since they are now confident the media not discredit nor correct as Candy did? I guess the sad truth for us, Middle Class Citizens must pass on day news to stay-up late and watch Saturday Night Live or Stephen Colbert to get the factual truth in order…
