Gunrunning is what criminals do to get illegall guns to other criminals. Stings are what cops do to catch the gunrunners. Project Gunrunner IS an ATF program aimed at catching gunrunners. “Gunwalking” is a strategy used under Bush, where guns were allowed to cross the border. When it became clear the Mexican authorities weren’t able to track the guns, the gunwalking was supposed to stop. There are many, many operations under Project Gunrunner. Fast & Furious was but one, and they used eTrace to track the guns. They were not supposed to use “gunwalking”. NO guns were supposed to go across the border. Some obviously did. Thank You Shiva, yes further study this morning enlightened me that it was still occurring under Obama, there was a stipulation the guns and those involved were to be taken into custody at the point of transfer in Mexico. Hover that would have been a difficult chore in light of the fact Mexican authorities knew nothing of the operation.

I think the gunrunning was still occurring after Obama took office. In fact, when Obama took over the Phoenix office that was running it renamed it fast and furious. the documentation that Darrell Issa is going after and is holding Eric holder and contempt for, has nothing to do with the actual program. All it has to do with is a letter that Eric older sent to a senator saying that program did not exist. When he found out it did He rewrote to the senator and admitted that it did. He did of course Shut the program down the minute he found out about it. none of that seems to make any difference to Darrell Issa who is simply going after documentation that has nothing to do with anything. in fact representative Issa refuses to investigate the program any further back than when an agent was killed. Are even further. There is no evidence that the weapon that killed the border patrol agents was one of the fast and furious weapons. It was only noted that some of these weapons were in the area where he was killed

From what i’ve been able to discover about this program (fast and furious) it started in 2006 under Bush and the sales of weapons had stopped by the time O took office. The only arrests and attempts to recover these weapons have occurred under O’s tenure.
I’ve a strong suspicion that executive privilege was invoked to protect agents and operations in the field still involved in the arrest and recovery activities.
of course the republicans have no qualms about selling out agents in the field for political gain (see Valerie Plame)… so they continue to press for disclosure. which is odd since it is a republican mess, yes yet another one, O is trying to clean up.
am i correct, or is wikipedia correct in these facts?
