The Religious Right Wants You Dead in God’s Name
By: Hrafnkell HaraldssonDec. 22nd, 2012more from Hrafnkell Haraldsson

The endless chorus from the Religious Right that all that plagues our society is the result of divine wrath has grown tiresome…and then some. James Dobson, Bryan Fischer, Mike Huckabee, David Barton, the AFA’s Buster “Test the Meat” Wilson, who blamed Sandy Hook on a lack of prayer, Franklin “I Guess Mormons are Alright” Graham, who took up the “we’ve turned our back on God” chorus, Pastor Bill Eliff of the Summit Church in Arkansas who said the murder of 20 children and six adults was “God’s grace,” Pastor Dan Delzell of Wellspring Lutheran Church in Papillion, Nebraska, at the Christian Post saying Satan did it…the list is endless.
To a man, they appear to be telling us that their god is a whiny little bitch who throws temper tantrums when we fail to fawn, and tell him to take it to the hand instead; and who goes on brutal rampages of bird and child killings, and storms and droughts wherever he can fit them in. It isn’t enough that their god gets mad at them. That I could live with. He’s their god after all, and they’re the ones claiming to be his children.
But why drag the rest of us into their psychosis?
It all began with this thing called monotheism. When the God of Abraham stopped being just the god of the children of Israel, well, that’s when the fun started for the rest of us. You might remember, God’s wrath fell on the Israelites on a fairly regular basis when they failed to measure up to his divine expectations (and what flawed, mortal human can do that?). Bad enough, I’d say.
But now we’re all stuck with this whack-job of a deity, spewing fire and brimstone with each breath. Because they’ve decided there is a capital-T Truth, because Moses decided there was a true/false distinction to be made in religion (an invitation to religious-based bigotry if there ever was one), the much-vaunted City on a Hill is infested with God.
Of course, our liberal version of the shining city on a hill (no caps) was created by the Constitution as the finest moment of the secular European Enlightenment – the creation of the modern liberal democracy, where all citizens have equal standing before the law; a land free of kings and a land free of state-sponsored religious tyranny.
The batshit crazy right sees it differently. Since we – the United States – are supposed to be that divinely ordained. shining City on a Hill, this divine infestation is problematic for all the rest of us. To their mind, that City on a Hill is infested with godlessness instead of godliness. God doesn’t like his city being infested and he’s mightily pissed off and he’s going to keep murdering us and our children until we buy guns, lots of guns, bow to the rich, and go to church and become good little hypocrites like the rest of his worshipers.
People laugh at this attitude and who can blame them? The Religious Right is literally batshit crazy, after all. The problem is, these batshit crazy people have lots of money and lots of influence. They may number only a quarter of the population of the United States, with fewer than that being certifiable, but they have legislators, governors, and even presidential candidates in their pockets. Difficult as you may find this to believe, people care what they say.
If we ignore them, they will not go away.
And they’re saying you need to die. They’re saying our Constitution needs to die.
Merry Fucking Christmas, right?
Bill Eliff, the Arkansas-based asshole mentioned above, actually said God did everyone – including the murder victims – a favor when he allowed a gunman to blast them into the next world:
Eliff said, “I’ve often thought about 9/11 and what happened there. God doesn’t cause evil, he didn’t cause the shooting the other day. But when we say, ‘Lord we can live life without you,’ then he says, ‘okay, I’ll let you feel that.’”
The AFA’s Buster Wilson helpfully said, “Let you get a taste of it.”
Batshit crazy Eliff then finished his thought:
We felt that this last week. That was pure evil, it’s the devil who has come to steal, kill and destroy. He’d just as soon kill a baby or a child in the womb as anything else. God allows that moment, we’re pressing the issue by turning from him, but he allows that moment to bring us to our senses and say, ‘God we desperately need you.’ So really it’s gracious. The pain that comes, the judgment that has really come by our turning away from the Lord is a merciful thing that God does to bring us to our senses and bring us back to him.
Yeah…that’s not gonna work. You might wanna let your dear fuzzy lord know that. Quite a few of us (including actual Christians) think you and your deity are a bunch of sick fucks. I used to be a Christian, Billy-boy, and I never thought the way you do. I mean, there is some sick-ass shit in the Bible and you seem to revel in it.
The Religious Right wants to blame video games and violent movies like Quentin Tarantino’s Django but Valerie Tarico over at AlterNet is right to ask, does the Bible make Americans more violent? When we look at a passage like that in Deuteronomy 7:1-6, we see it as something that, being out of myth, is not relevant to us. But the Religious Right thinks everything the God of Abraham said to the Israelites is relevant today, Christians being the inheritors of the Jews as the Chosen People. And so everything God said to the Israelites about Israel applies to them and to the United States.
So when you read something like this, understand that this is not s snippet of ancient “history” but a long-standing divine commandment:
When the Lord your God brings you into the land that you are about to enter and occupy, and he clears away many nations before you – the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations mightier and more numerous than you – and when the Lord your God gives them over to you and you defeat them, then you must utterly destroy them. Make no covenant with them and show them no mercy. Do not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, for that would turn away your children from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly. But this is how you must deal with them: break down their altars, smash their pillars, hew down their sacred poles, and burn their idols with fire. For you are a people holy to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on earth to be his people, his treasured possession (Deut 7.1-6).
You doubt me? Look at Buster Wilson’s handling of a caller who, Right Wing Watch reports, bragged “that he owns an AR-15 assault rifle, loathes President Obama and is absolutely fed up, warning that the government is turning him into a vigilante and that ‘when the bullets start flying, well, I got plenty of bullets.’”
Did Buster admonish him for hate, for failing to turn the other cheek? Did Buster advise him as Jesus advised his followers, to love his enemies? No, Buster said, “those were the kind of sentiments” held by our Founding Fathers leading up to the Revolutionary War. Mentioning school prayer and the absence from schools of the Ten Commandments, Wilson said that Americans “are not now willing to revert back to anarchy [and] to have our liberties stripped away from us.”
Buster’s Bible legitimizes violence against nonbelievers. He glorified this caller’s murderous and illegal impulses, all in the name of his God and the absence of school prayer. The crusading spirit that gave us “Deus vult!”(God Wills it!) is alive and well today. As Oliver Wendel Holmes observed of his experiences in the Civil War, “certitude leads to violence.”
Please, those of you who wonder why we report on these people, tell me that ignoring them is a good idea. It is time to wake up to the threat, America. The threat isn’t God. The threat is, as so often happens in history, people who think they are doing God’s will when they kill and torture other people. We can laugh at Buster and his problems with his meat, but there is nothing funny about a religious fanatic armed with an AR-15 and willing to use it.
Sadly, you do not have to go to Afghanistan to find one of those. We have plenty of them here at home, and they are your neighbors.

As I said in an earlier post, I fear for the safety of President Obama. For the life of me I cannot understand why these religious zealots only want to preach the fire and brimstone from the Old Testament and not the teachings of Jesus. And why would anyone be given airtime when they brag about having an assault weapon and they are just waiting for the opportunity to use it? The caller should be arrested and locked up. God isn’t killing anyone, people are.

In a way, these guys are themselves making an argument for turning away from their god. If their god would abandon me because someone else does not believe, then why not take my chances without him?

Why do people who are ignorant of scripture try to write articles and pretend they know what God did and didn’t do.
God created everything. Including evil. Without the creation of evil there would be no choice. We CHOOSE between being good or evil.
God created evil.

Very nice…you just stripped James 1:13 from the Bible. What else do you want to take out of their that you don’t agree with?

Ken,
1) I spent the first 22 years of my life as a Lutheran (LCA). Was confirmed. Went to a Lutheran Bible college.
2) I bet I’ve read the Bible more often than you have.
3) I bet I have (and have read) more books about the Bible and Judaism and Christianity than you have.
So please don’t tell me I’m ignorant of your scriptures.

Don’t you think “everything God said to the Israelites about Israel applies to them [evangelical fundamentalist] and to the United States.” is sort of a grandiose leap, a baseless projection of the delusional?
I’m trying hard to find a rational, logical example to explain how bizarre and impossible this ego-driven equation is, and, has no base in reality. These evangelical people have no boundaries or actual biblical identity! How can they possibly believe that by just declaring themselves as part of a biblical mandate, like the Jews, it makes them one too and therefore, they “own” the US, like the Jews “own” Israel?
And, because they adhere to such a weird delusional mindset, they somehow believe they are mandated to project impending catastrophic crisis, and, inflict physical harm on the “outside world” for their own purposes with little to no accountability for their actions.
They want strict control over books, TV, movies, radio, music, thoughts, ideas, work, school, who’s in bed with whom, through a large network of cult exclusivity based on their extreme obsessiveness. Their ideal world view excludes all basis in reality–anything practical or has to do with critical thinking is discarded or turned into a conspiracy that persecutes their eyes.
Enough is enough already…time to start rounding them up these messianic megalomaniacs, these pretentious psychopaths before they can destroy any more lives under their bizarre undue influence!

The God of ‘liberal Christianity’ is no better. He sits back and lets all this happen in his name. He does nothing as the Right actively harms and sometimes straight up kills in his name.
And yet the bible talks about how he loves all of his creation, and how he is the ultimate example of justice.
No, thanks. I’ll burn in hell. I have actual morals.

I also do not wish to see this happening to others.

Soo, let me get this straight. God, who actually made the Universe, is interested in this one small planet located in a Goldilocks Zone in the Milky Way Galaxy. This speck of a planet in a Galaxy of millions of planets, maybe billions, in a Universe made up of Billions and Billions of Galaxies…wow, way to Go God!! Let me take this a step further, not only is he interested in just this one planet, he is only really interested in just this one patch of land on this planet, and if we screw up, then he is going to punish us, the people who populate this one small patch of earth in this ginormous Universe.
Ahhh…I don’t think so.
I believe in a Spiritual presence that probably kicked off this whole big boom Universe, but I think this God takes care of us and loves us. He also gave us “free will” so that basically makes it our problem to figure out.
We can do things in a Spiritual way, or we can do things our own way. Guess which one is a total cluster screw up? I’ll give ya a clue, it ain’t the Spiritual solutions!!
These people Hraf speaks of are very dangerous to our freedoms, and it is a very smart idea to keep a very close eye on this maggots to make sure that there influence on our daily lives is negligible. The more we expose these goons off the rails ideas, the more they will be shown for the power grabbing control freaks they want to be.

I really like, “God, protector of Planet Goldilocks”!
I’m pasting a little snippet from an article on why these people want so badly to destroy democracy…
“…If humans do anything they wish or say anything they please, they wrongly harm each other, harm themselves, and create discord. God has placed humans under His law (He made them, He does as He pleases) and thus all humans are responsible to obey God. God has told us not to blaspheme. According to democracy however, we can blaspheme, because democracy says we have freedom of speech. But if we blaspheme, we go to hell.
Thus you can see we don’t really have the freedom to speak as we wish. No matter how much we wish we were separated from the law of God, we are nevertheless under the Ten Commandments, even in a democracy. We can’t do anything we wish without being punished. We can’t rule ourselves. God must rule us. Hate it or not.
People rule = sin rules. Everyday, people show they are sinful. You mean to tell me you don’t sin? Well since everyone sins, and do many evil things, they shouldn’t be allowed to make laws for themselves. They are only going to make sinful laws…”
WOW! I’m still reeling from their godly “logic”!
They don’t care about America or anyone who prefers democracy over theocracy. They are not “patriots”, believers in the “Founding Fathers” or good citizens of the Constitution created by the FF’s–none of that matters to them. What matters is, their hate is the right kind of hate. Their hate of multiculturalism and all forms of equality is “good” hate. Their hate is based on the bible therefore, it is righteous! And lastly, their hate of us “sinners” is justified because “we’ are usurping god due to democracy; we are an abomination, mentally ill, therefore, we must be eliminated.
“…[god] he is only really interested in just this one patch of land on this planet, and if we screw up, then he is going to punish us…”
Sounds like you got it,…

Interesting, where did you get that quote? Would love to read the full article, gotta have some really interesting stuff in it.
I thought that God gave us “free will” after he flooded all of us out the first time. Said he wasn’t going to interfere with us, let us basically screw up on our own.
Sin is a very goofy thing. There is, in my view not, two ways solve a problem, my way, and a Spiritual way. My way is a screw up most of the time. The Spiritual way is much tougher, because it ain’t my way, but if the solution is done in a Spiritual way, lots less chaos.
I also don’t get this, “we are conceived in sin” BS. You mean to tell me, the only way for us to reproduce ourselves is to commit a sin??? WTF?? Look, if God made it feel so good, then, in my opinion, and only my opinion, it can’t be a sin..or why would He make if feel sooo gooood!!!???
I don’t mind religion, I don’t mind those people who are strict in their observance of religion, but don’t and I really mean DON’T(!!!!) ram your religious BS, especially your Christen religious BS down my throat!!!
This is what Hraf and all of us are most pissed about, the fact that the far right religious fringe element has so much sway in the way the GOP is conducting itself, and the way their toxic views and policies are destroying the very freedoms that this country was founded on 236 years ago.
We all must be well informed of their insidious plot to completely dominate our culture and freedoms, and forums and Blogs like this keep us up to date on the insanity these maggots are attempting to foist on our freedoms.
This discussion about our religious freedoms is far from over, and the more we know about how these morons are trying to control the situation, the better prepared we, all of us here, will be to STOP them dead in their tracks, and I use the word “dead” carefully, for it really may come down to what the word really means in order for us to protect our freedoms!

This guy who writes this stuff, Lewis Loflin, is all over the board on his “beliefs”…
You read his bio, he goes in the direction of a Deist w/ a science background. You read the article (below the Nazi link) titled “Democracy is not a good form of Government” and he turns into one of “them”. And then, he turns around again and rejects fundamentalist evangelicals seeming equally afraid as most humans…
What matters is, he spells out this entire premise that Americans, or any country with democracy, is doomed to hell with him simple formula:
“people rule=sin rules”…that says it all.
