Rep. Keith Ellison Goes on Fox News and Absolutely Destroys Sean Hannity
Rep. Keith Ellison completely turned the tables on Sean Hannity. Instead of letting Hannity talk through and roll over him, Ellison destroyed Hannity with his own tactics.
Video via Fox News:
Rep. Ellison has been on Hannity’s show before. He knew what was coming, and he didn’t let Hannity follow the standard Fox News script. Hannity set up the interview with all of standard edited video clips of Obama and Republican talking points, but things didn’t go as expected from the moment Rep. Ellison started to speak. Within the first 12 seconds of the interview Ellison calls Hannity the worst excuse for a journalist he’s ever seen. Hannity replied, “What? I didn’t hear you.” Ellison shot back, “You heard me.” Ellison continued, “What you just displayed wasn’t anything close to journalism. It was yellow journalism. It wasn’t anything close to try to tell the American people what is really going on, and it’s just shocking.”
Hannity tried to defend his edited video/GOP talking points attack on the president by claiming he was, “playing Obama in his own words.” Ellison called Hannity’s hackery deceptive, and told the Fox News host that he had just violated every journalistic ethic that he had ever heard of. Hannity tried to hide behind the I am not a Republican, I am an Independent excuse. Ellison smacked that down by saying, “You are nothing, but a Republican.” Ellison called Hannity a “shill for the Republican Party.” Hannity told Rep. Ellison to keep ranting, so he did. He told the viewers to ignore all of Sean Hannity’s commentary because Obama is telling the truth.
The Minnesota Democrat literally destroyed Hannity’s entire format. Hannity got so desperate that he pulled a Romney and offered to bet Ellison $10,000 that he is a registered conservative. Hannity ended up begging for a chance to speak on his own show.
Rep. Ellison did everything that frustrated viewers having been wishing someone would come on Sean Hannity’s show and do. Things got so bad for Hannity that he employed the Fox News cut and run, and ended the interview early.
Keith Ellison’s performance on Hannity was a textbook example of how a Democrat should handle appearing on Fox News. The Fox News formula is to use segment introductions and questions that box the Democrat into the Republican narrative. Ellison understood this, took control of the interview from the moment it began, and never gave it back to Hannity.
Rep. Ellison rolled Sean Hannity on his own show.
In the broader context, Ellison’s performance is a reflection of the confidence that Democrats are feeling right now. They are at the height of their powers, and Fox News is just a speed bump.
Sean Hannity finally got called out, and it couldn’t have happened to more deserving poor excuse for a journalist.

You called it. Democrats have the savvy, and facts, to dominate these conservative news types. They cannot compete against facts, or pushback, and if every Dem took Ellison’s approach, the people would see people like Hannity for what they are; GOP shills and liars.

Ellison betrayed his own ignorance and stupidity, by contradicting himself- “…I’m not speaking for the president…” yet, practically all he spoke about was Obama. He was also wrong about the sequester, it came from the white house-specifically Jack Lew with B.O.’s approval. In fact he threatened to veto any attempt to affect it, not too long ago.

Funny no one can link to Obama threatening to do that.
The good old GOP voted for that sequester hook line and sinker, and said they got everything they wanted. Next?

It’s frightening some of the things you liberals will say when you’re surrounded by fellow thinkers. Ellison looked like a complete idiot in this clip. He is supposed to be a professional and he sat up there yelling like a 5 year old.
Anyone that thinks he did a good job is out of touch with reality. Try reading a different news site every once in a while and come out from that rock you’re living under.

Before you comment on the program, watch it. I’m from MN, and I am so embarrassed for Ellison. He acted and sounded like a fool. It does explain, however, why nothing ever gets done in Congress when we have schoolyard thugs simply trying to outscream each other with no desire whatsoever to have an intelligent dialog. Ellison, when you stop ranting, what is your SOLUTION?????

I so dislike this channel and Hnnity but it would have been much better for Ellison to have listened to his question and then answer it in a wy to blow what he said outof the water. In this scenario it was just them sounding on one another. Ellison should have blown him out of the water by talking about how we got to the thrillions we owe.

When a question is premised on a near-infinite string of lies (i.e. most of what Hannity has said for the past four years), the sort of response Rep. Ellison gave is more than that question deserves.

I think there’s more to it than this, probably something were not seeing. I don’t think Ellison would’ve just jumped up and jumped right down his throat because I’ve never seen him act like that before. He usually thinks his statements out very well

I agree with Eric. It’s extremely sad how the congressman acted – just the opposite from what we would see from Dr. Ben Carson who promotes dialog – talking things through to an acceptable conclusion.
Ellison was rude, insulting, and just the opposite from representing a “controlled” congressman.

One doesn’t seek to achieve a compromise with lies, and one doesn’t dialog with a deliberately disingenuous, overbearing bully. One dialogs with a sincere person. Hannity is clearly anything but.
Now stop carrying water for that uneducated, habitually lying oaf. He makes tons of money, undeservingly, for shoveling his excrement. He doesn’t need you to defend him.

Kay,
I must disabuse you of the notion that Dr. Carson could ever rise to the level of prominence that Rep Ellison and President Obama have risen to. Sure, he’s a new black “toy” that conservatives can elevate, but his future in politics would be much like those of Allen West, Michael Steele, and Herman Cain. We may be black like they are, but we don’t like anything about their political ideology. Therefore, if any of these new “toys” should ever deign to run for POTUS, they definitely would NOT get a majority of the votes of us Black Americans, and I don’t think they’d get a majority of the votes of the young, or of other minority groups in the nation because they carry the same stench that the other republicans/conservatives do. See, this is why so many republicans have been wrong about President Obama. We didn’t vote for him because he’s black and we’re black. We voted for him because he was the best candidate.

Hannity says he is not a Republican. Why then has he spoken non-stop to us all to vote for Republicans? When has he told us to vote for a Libertarian or Democrat? If I were to check his election records status in his state, would I find him registered as an independent? If so, why does he recommend almost nothing but Republicans? Is there a state somewhere you can register as a conservative? Never heard of that. Mine registers me as a member of whatever party my presidential candidate is in during primaries.

It’s no wonder nothing gets done and WE, We the people are paying for it. Both parties have a good thing going for them in their Retirement wages and benifits and they DO NOT want that ruined by a 3rd party. It’s like the Superbowl, Ravens and 49er’s have a great game going on, and here come the Detroit Lions marching on to the field to join in the game. Keith let himself get a little emotional, which is unfortunate but it’s alright, cause that was flippin LEGENDARY. That’s precisely how Fox pundits SHOULD be treated, like the empty-headed puppets they are. If progressives ever go on Fox, they should treat everyone working there like they’re running a public access high school news show, a bad one. In all honesty, I think all progressive politicians should shun Fox News, because even going on gives them a sort of validation. Fox News is one of the most destructive forces to our society, and they really need to start being treated so.

Anyone that regard Rep. Ellison behaviour in Hannity’s show as correct should have their head examined. Forget about right, left, progressiveness, Tea Party or whatever. The man was out of hand, uncontrollable agressive, and showed no manners at all. If someone here thinks that this is the best way to deal with political or ideological opponents let me suggest that you move to North Korea or Cuba. Ellison acted like a clown and babbled incessantly with not one coherent thought other than calling Hannity what he is which is not a journalist. However, Ellison was a disgrace to the office he holds and the good people he represents. He acted less mature than Hannity which I did not think was possible.
What other sane reporters saw and heard:

m.theatlantic.com/politic...
m.washingtonpost.com/blog...

And you call out Fox for bias?! LOL

The Rude Pundit was talking about a another case where the blogosphere seems to demand that the left should be held to higher standards and he sum it up with this: [Now, Progress Kentucky is a tiny, mostly worthless organization. It's easy to pile on it. But time and again, the left proves that it demands a devotion to truth and fair discourse.
Which, by the way, is why the right is able to walk all over us all the time.]
And you know what?I totally agree. We didn’t make the rules on how this”game”is played but I be damn if we will disarm. So all those wusses can kiss where the sun don’t shine

Not much passion here! The congressman missed a great opportunity here. His first mistake, and maybe also one made by many of you here, was to imply that Hannity is a journalist or anything he does journalism. He’s not. He’s an opinion barker and pot-stirrer. That’s a dead-end attack. I would love to have seen Congressman Ellison gut Hannity, but he missed the opportunity by a mile. I sympathize with his passions, but cool, spirited professionalism would have been far more effective. Instead, he lowered himself to Hannity’s 5th grade level of schoolyard debate tactics. Gotta do better when the opportunities come.

I’m a democrat and although i usually hate fox news, with an unbiased approach I have to say that Ellison was acted very rudely and really embarrassed himself. Instead of using some of his valid points to win his argument, he instead decided to act like a child when his point of view was threatened. I honestly found this as an embarrassment to my party.

Ellison destroys Hannity? Please. Ellison, as usual, acts like a petulant child. Any time he’s one on one with a person with an opposing view, it’s the same garbage. Insult the other guy and don’t let him get a word in edgewise. THAT, by definition, is not destroying someone. It only makes you look like an ass. Worse, it makes you look like you can’t win the debate because you’re refusing to let the other guy say his piece.
I’m from Minnesota and I get my fill of this idiot on a weekly basis. Not sure if he’s paranoid or just needs anger management counseling. Either way, his act is getting very stale.

Mike,
You just describe Insanity Hanity in a nut shell. His sample tactics are so elementary that it’s only makes sense in his sharp brain (sarcastic). What transpired was Hannity getting a taste of his own medicine, better yet, it was karma. He couldn’t handle it, so he attempted to deflect similiar to what you’re doing now. The congressmen wasn’t an angry black guy which Sham tried to make him appear. Insanity is getting old and that “Jetti” trip isn’t working anymore.
I suggest you elevate yourself too by getting exposed to other sources of new & information other than Faux.

+1. You know, a really interesting prime time news show would be a format that features the two extremes of news subjects, like the Hannity/Ellison encounter discussing sequester or whatever, and take apart both participants for their behavior, hyperboli, and untruth…then actually cover the story with facts and journalism. The host could have some entertaining bipartisan roast fun with the first part, then utilize guests and use real journalism and discourse to find real substance on the various subjects. It’s kind of like what Spencer does, but if the host could be slickly neutral, taking the hatchet to all, it would be better. Imagine that!
I think I need meds with that idea, right?

You’re right if both sides don’t find the professionalism to govern with proper process and commit to comprehensive tax reform, comprehensive entitlement reform, creating budgets on schedule and staying on them. There just not an adult in their rooms that will sweep all the BS aside and commit to getting those things done.

The President has submitted his wishlist www.whitehouse.gov/omb/bu... The CBO has scored it www.cbo.gov/latest/Taxes/... Now the house has to write the budget
Oops I cant find it.I see studies, resolutions, something call The Path to Prosperity:

But no budget. But its the Presidents fault.

Give the prez points for submitting a wish list, although it is not comprehensive enough to do all that needs to be done. That’s not a criticism, really, just recognition that the process is more complex, requiring more than just his wish list. The CBO’s scoring tends to reflect that. A much more comprehensive debate and overhaul is needed. Seems what needs to happen is for Leader Reid to bring the House budget to the Senate floor, and peel it open…rip, shred, but debate the issues. That process reveals and omits all the shortcomings and puts the process in motion to work out the needed comprehensive reforms. This would also pressure the House to stay in the mix and be accountable. It puts the proper process back in place to get something rolling. I would think that the president could motivate this with Leader Reid and the Senate. Yes, no, maybe?

Are you not a little over the top for a moderator, djchefron? Let’s find solutions rather than scream in the dark.
What the public at large finds maddening is that both the process and professionalism have been abandoned. Leadership, from wherever it comes, must reveal the facts and get the process rolling. Criminations here don’t get us anywhere. Discourse will, whether it’s in congress or out here.
Look at the extremes here. It ranges from wails of doom to screaming criminations at people. Find any discourse?
Agreed, Shiva, except maybe for “the good ones.” But how to define, I agree. Start over.

Am I over the top?Maybe but when you have to deal with half truths and outright lies it makes one go overboard sometime. Now in our little corner what we say is not going to get the deal done. That being said solutions have been offered. All we get is as long as we keep our welfare and obamaphones[I get to that in a second] we are ignorant and a bunch of basement dwelling commies. And thats the flattering ones.
I welcome a healthy debate and frankly its no fun just trading insults but it is what it is.I come with links, facts and supporting evidence and what do I get in return?Nothing. So lets debate but keep your talking points where they belong.

Lets start with our fiscal mess. How to fix it.Lets start by getting rid of these breaks
Why Should Taxpayers Give Big Banks $83 Billion a Year?
www.bloomberg.com/news/20...
Thats a question.Why.I said early in the week we take that money and in 10 years thats 830 billion dollars. Not enough.Lets look at the mother lode
Financial Transaction Tax
www.nytimes.com/2013/02/2...
Thats 2.7 trillion a DAY thats not even being talk about. How much that can raise? I will be conservative and say we can easily raise 50 billion a year thats 500 billion in 10 years
Now lets add up oil subsidies because if you are making 105 million a day in PROFITS do you really need the taxpayers to give you money. At 5 billion a year in 10 years thats a cool 50b.
So far I have pointed out 855 billion that the taxpayers are just giving away and I barely scratch the surface. And people are crying over responsibility and blaming food stamps? Now you see why sometimes I lose it.
We dont have a spending problem. We have a revenue problem

I think what you bring is the important fact that there are so many variables that require reform. Seems like everybody in places where deep thinking and consideration are needed, tries to keep it too simple. It’s not. They only succeed in keeping it too shallow.
Looks like good reads. Gotta run, but hope to return when having read carefully for nuggets.

It’s very cute how some people can dish sh*t out, 24/7/365, but as soon as someone else gives them a taste of their own medicine, it’s time to haul out the fainting couches and smelling salts. Sometimes in order to rid oneself of a bully, one has to stop being Mr./Ms Nice Guy/Gal, get down in the dirt with the bully and let him/her experience the sh*t that he/she has been burying others in. I love it when the Fox/Hannity apologists show up here because I know I can expect to get a good glimpse into that alternate reality they live in—the one where you get to see someone who looks to an uneducated hack to explain serious issues to him/her. It’s always good for giggles seeing this kind of nonsense. The apologists have shown up to inform us of how poorly Rep. Ellison performed on Hannity’s show. I beg to differ. Proof exists which shows that Hannity felt he had been bested in the interview–the NRCC felt the need to issue a name-calling statement against Rep. Ellison. Now, why would an organization like the NRCC feel like it had to come to the defense of a network hack like Hannity? And, the fact that the NRCC came to Hannity’s defense proves what Rep. Ellison said–Hannity is a shill for the Republican Party!!!

You people are idiots. This was clearly a melt down by Ellison. He sounded like a little kid that can’t get his way. Hannity is right. This sequester was Obama’s idea. Then he increases spending. Then he tells us the sky is falling even though the sequester does not decrease spending because spending increased over last year by more than the sequester will cut. Nothing bad will happen. Airports won’t shut down. We will still be able to buy meat. Obama wants a balanced approach. Well, he got his tax hikes, but he won’t cut spending. This President is a whack-job. He is out of control. He’s like a poor girl who marries rich and goes on a spending spree with a credit card; except he has the ability to raise the credit limit.

Keith Ellison has my unending respect for calling Sean Hannity on his frequent and flagrant lies. As for any Minnesotan who thinks Keith Ellison is an embarrassment to his/her state, I have just one reply: Michele (Crazy Eyes) Bachmann and her outlandishly stupid, inane comments that are documented for all time.
