Republican Gov Jindal Cuts Hospice for Medicaid Patients
Republican Governor Bobby Jindal announced Tuesday that he was cutting Medicaid services for Louisiana’s dying poor, among other services getting the ax. No more hospice, starting February 1st. The terminally ill will no longer have hospice assistance.
Ironically, the only other state to try this was Arizona, and they found it too expensive in the end. Arizona ended up reinstating hospice. KPLCTV reported:
Louisiana will become one of only two states to eliminate Medicaid hospice. Arizona was in that mix, but has already reinstituted it because it costs more. “You’re going to pick them up and bring them to the emergency room, to the hospital, which costs considerably more than the $140/day paid for by the state for the Medicaid program,” said Phelps.
State Senator Dan “Blade” Morrish says state cuts were a must to balance the budget, but the Medicaid hospice plan needs to be looked at again. “There comes a time in budget cuts when there is a line that you just can’t cross anymore,” he said, “and I think we’ve reached that with the hospice issue.”
Perhaps facing such a budget problem, it might have been wise for Jindal to rehink his plan of killing revenue by getting rid of both personal and corporate state income taxes. Not to worry, he’s going to offset the lost revenue with sales taxes, which hit the poor and middle class far more than they do the wealthy.
Bobby Jindal has been privatizing public hospitals in Louisiana, another plan that has been proven to cost more money because once you get profit involved, things tend to cost more while accountability goes down. Jindal claims he needs to do this because Congress cut Louisiana’s Medicaid budget.
In fact, it wasn’t “Congress”, it was House Republicans, and they were actually asking for twice as much to be cut from Lousiana’s Medicaid budget. “The House GOP proposed targeting roughly $1.3 billion in FMAP Medicaid funds for Louisiana.” Republicans are blaming a typo from Senator Mary Landrieu’s (D-LA) 2010 efforts to address FMAP (Federal Medicaid Assistance Percentage)funds which resulted in $4 billion more in funding than they anticipated.
At any rate, Louisiana’s dying will no longer have the comfort and assistance of hospice. Death Panels, anyone?

And the beat goes on. Just one more reason to despise the current republican party and prepare for their demise in 2014.
Hospice is such a wonderful program. Theiir efficiency and professionalism is second to none and that comes fron several encounters I’ve had with friends and family members who needed them. Maybe sarah palin can crawl out of her hole long enough to post another phony Facebook rant about the indignity in abandoning our sick and elderly. Jindal is a fool and a pig. Does he not know how difficult it is to transport dying old folks to the emergency room? Well I do. Maybe that’s his goal, to make things so difficult that they, “Die quickly”, as Alan Grayson said about that disgusting party.
I better go take my BP meds.

As my husband is on hospice, i read this article with tears and at the same time, realize how lucky my husband and i are. In my state, there not only has been no cuts to ‘hospice’ but they are trying to get more people on medicaid, as they are practicing preventive medicine, which will keep people out of the ER(which has been driving our healthcare costs up)

Kinda think Bobby Jindal is doing his best to please the Koch brothers and other huge Republican donors because he wants to run for President in 2016. The way to do that is to be as destructive to the 99% and government as he can. He wants to show them he can do it with one hand, too…the other hand holds the Good Book self-righteously high above his head.

This is nothing but a manufactured crisis so the hard right extremists in congress can go back to their tea party constituents and claim they stood up to President Obama.
More to the point, it’s generational warefare pitting older Americans receiving social security and medicare benifits against younger workers who are still paying into the system. And the hard right republicans are lying to young workers saying that they are going to strengthen these social programs. Right…… If you believe that I know of a bridge you might be interested in buying.
I think these scum bags like Ryan and Cantor have bit off a little more than they can chew. The majority of older Americans don’t want to see their children screwed over and the majority of younger Americans don’t want to see their parents screwed over.
When asked why he robbed banks, Willie Sutton replied, “because that’s where the money is.” Well, why are Ryan and Cantor determined to destroy social security, medicare, and medicaid? Because that’s where the money is. Then they can give that money in the form of tax cuts to ultra wealthy investors and corporatists who will do nothing but hoard any windfalls they get while the middle class is left to pick up the pieces.

Well this is certainly ammo for his presidential run. It’s plainly obvious now and the people of Louisiana should know this that he is out to drain them dry. I bet if he doesn’t run for president he gets reelected because the Louisiana Republicans don’t seem to be all that bright. I hate to bash other Americans but really, Jindal is doing the work of the Koch brothers and the people are simply laying down

This is nothing compared to what other agencies are doing on the federal level. State and federal agencies have come to the conclusion that if one is not a productive participant in society then get rid of them by any means necessary. In the minority communities their programs across the board are solely directed at death and control. Hospice programs, school grants, neighbor improvement grants and on and on gone. Not because they were not during any good, but, solely because of all the money wasted on wars and corporate welfare. Then one wonders why one awaken most mornings now feeling that something is not right with this world. Can’t put one finger on it but something is just not right. Something is not right when one needing an assault weapon to kill a deer but know it is the weapon of choice when young adult white male has mass murder on their mind.. Some not right to call an Harvard educated POTUS retarded when one barely made it out of high school… Something is not right to have law enforcement right 100% of the time when caught red handed in denying minorities their constitutional rights. Something not right when great than 48% of the voting public voted for a known lair but when caught lying continues to lie to the public with a smile on their face. Something is wrong when a presidential contender say that 47 % of the voting population does not matter and gets greater than 48 % of the popular vote.. Something is wrong when current governors, senator, and state and national legislator representatives stand before the public and say they don’t care because balancing the budget on the poor and middle is the right thing to do while taking graft from rich billionaires. One can go on and on but what is the use when that righteous minded 48 % believes in a scripture that love of money, false witnesses, name callers and moronic leaders on way to their god, his promise land and the best way to build a better nation. We the people better stay awake for 2014.

I refuse to feel sorry for the citizens of Louisiana. They voted along party lines, most likely because they think “LA is a conservative state.” Many of them didn’t, and still don’t, know what Jindal stands for, and they don’t seem to care that all of his policies are meant to benefit the corporations and wealthy at the expense of the poor and the middle class. It’s sad, but in many cases, people have to experience poor governance for themselves to realize when a politician like Jindal has screwed them over to advance his own career.

I live in the backass hellhole of LA and this piece of legislation sickens me beyond belief. At the same time Death Panel Jindal cut a program serving a small population of very young children with potential mental health issues (i.e, raised by mentally ill adults) that cost the state around $130,000 per year and recouped more than $1.2 million in federal funds. Oh, and forgot to mention cutting the program for abused women and children. He is a heartless, shameless excuse for a human being and to think this ghoul could actually run for President in 2016 is truly frightening.

You have to remember that Jindal’s ethnic backbround is East Indian. This is a people who have no conscience of self worth of an individual. There are so many people in that country that they do not value human life like we do here in the USA. However, he has been here long enough to learn new values and adhere to them while he lives in this country. This is dispicable, so go out and campaign against him for re-election.
