Republicans Outraged as America Ignores Their Sham Eric Holder Contempt Vote
Republicans spent an entire day trying to get America interested in their sham Eric Holder scandal, and surprised no one by finding the AG in contempt.
By a vote of 23-17, the committee voted to send a contempt report to the full House. While that sounds like a big deal, it really isn’t when you consider if Eric Holder is found in contempt by the House, the person who will determine if Holder gets prosecuted will be Eric Holder.
This was the Republicans next to last gasp attempt to try and drum up a scandal to attach to the Obama administration before the November election. The right wing media has been pushing Fast and Furious for years only to be met with a collective yawn by the American public.
The only scandal here is that so called fiscally conservative Republicans have no qualms about wasting taxpayer money on a fishing expedition which they hope will provide the evidence they need to defeat President Obama in November.
Attorney General Holder has earned the wrath of the right for his aggressive pursuit of stand your ground laws, and voter ID cases. AG Holder has been vigilant in his protection of voting rights, much to the dismay of Republicans.
The corrupt and smarmy Darrell Issa is engaging in election year politics at its dirtiest level. House Republicans knew that Obama would assert Executive Privilege over the emails that they want. (They knew this because George W. Bush did the same thing in 2001.) The truth is that the Republicans don’t care about the facts surrounding Fast and Furious.
Republicans kept screaming to America about what a sad day for democracy this was, and they were right. It was sad that the majority on a committee would abuse their power in this way. It was sad that they thought the American people were so dumb as to fall for a contrived scandal like what the Republicans were pushing.
Even the media didn’t bite on this one. Issa was probably hoping for wall to wall cable coverage, but his big moment wasn’t even large enough to make it on to C-SPAN or C-SPAN 2. Issa’s big score was shuttled off to C-SPAN 3, and the cable news networks gave the vote itself scant live coverage.
In short, even the media was bored by such overtly partisan hackery.
The whole thing was more predetermined than Wrestlemania. When Rep. Dennis Kucinich asked Chairman Issa if he was prepared to go to court to test the President’s claim of Executive Privilege over the emails, which Republicans on the committee claimed were vital evidence, Issa’s answer indicated that he was planning to find Holder in contempt without the evidence.
The House Oversight Committee found Holder in contempt without even seeing the evidence that they claimed was essential. That is how much of a rigged game this was.
The whole investigation has been nothing, but a giant political con. Republicans are desperate for a scandal to attach to Obama, but they have been so shallow and transparent in their tactics that everyone knows what they are up to.
It isn’t working. No one cares, but Issa’s political fishing trip will continue to waste taxpayer dollars until the November election.
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. But the only smoke being generated here is coming from the tax dollars being burned by Issa and his desperate band of partisan hacks.

AG Holder offered to come to Issa’s office and share the sensitive material with him, and Issa refused the offer. When I read this, it confirmed to me that Issa wasn’t really concerned about seeing the sensitive material, he was going to find Holder in contempt anyway. Michael Steele said that this looks bad for republicans in an election year. I think it looks bad at any time for politicians to waste taxpayers’ money and jump in front of the first camera in sight and talk about the need to cut government spending and about creating jobs. If the republicans had wanted to fulfill their promise to work on creating jobs, they’d have done it in early 2011 right after they had been sworn in. This little farce may backfire on them. The American people didn’t have much patience for the Vince Foster witch hunt, and it seems that they don’t seem to think F&F is that big a deal either.

Since they have NO PROOF, they are doing nothing but fishing for distractions and drama for their big show. It’s obscene how they waste money on this crap all because they can’t sell the public on their ideas. But then, there are only so many people they can KoolAid into voting against their own interests.

The NRA has also written to the committee that they wanted Holder held in contempt. No doubt they do.
This will never get to court and if it does Issa will be embarrassed. Everyone knows what this is.

“Despite Denials, Sources Say Darrell Issa Was Briefed On Details Of ATF’s ‘Fast And Furious’”
tpmmuckraker.talkingpoint...
————-
Saw this recent post by TPM. Issa “WAS” briefed in detail with all kinds of facts and details about WHAT “FastandFurious” was and the operation. His claim seems to be that even with all this background… they just never reffered to it as “FastandFurious”.. those EXACT words. The FACTS were in front of him though. He is playing semantics here.
Sort of reminds you of the old analogy, “What is pornography?”. Hard to describe.. but you will KNOW it when you SEE it. WHAT Issa SAW was right in front of him,He simply referred to it by another name. He is playing with words here.

I must admit, the notion of deliberately giving/selling guns to drug runners sounds pretty stupid. It was reportred that the House Sargeant-at-Arms could be directed to arrest Holder and thro him in a cell in the Capitol building. That would be extreme as Nancy Pelosi pointed out she did not arrest Karl Rove when she had the chance.

This is the most blatant use of CHARACTER ASSASSINATION I have seen in my life. But why should I be surprised at this? The committee chairman is one of the biggest crooks in Congress.

“Issa was probably hoping for wall to wall cable coverage, but his big moment wasn’t even large enough to make it on to C-SPAN or C-SPAN 2…In short, even the media was bored by such overtly partisan hackery.”
Wow. Talk about cognitive dissonance. The media ignores a major news story, and you take that as validation that the scandal is overblown? Aren’t you suspicous(or at least curious) as to why the media has been ignoring this story? Even if the scandal turns out to be a witch hunt, a witch hunt is still a big news story, especially one which could land the Attorney General in jail, and especially one in which the Attorney General is accused of being an accomplice in the murder of over 300 people.
The media has given “wall to wall coverage” of much lesser scandals with less evidence. Why not this one? The only explanation, of course, is that the media is trying to protect Obama, and the fact that you delight in the media in not informing you only shows willful ignorance on your part.

The media has been increasingly right wing. Obama needs no protection in this instance. Were you aware of the facts in this case you would know that. The willful ignorance belongs to you

No, the media is trying to protect the Republicans because what is not being reported nearly enough is that the Republicans in Congress have accused Holder and Obama of conspiring to use the Fast and Furious program as a way to drum up support for gun control. They actually said this! This crazy conspiracy theory was dreamed up by the head of the NRA and now it is being repeated in these witch hunt proceedings. If the media reported this widely, it would be very embarrassing for the GOP because mainstream Americans are too smart to fall for such a stupid conspiracy theory and want Congress to focus on JOBS, not guns or Obama’s birth certificate or crazy conspiracy theories.

“…conspiring to use the Fast and Furious program as a way to drum up support for gun control. They actually said this! This crazy conspiracy theory…”
It’s not just some crazy conspiracy theory. There were ATF emails that talked about using the shootings to justify more gun regulation. And just before Fast and Furious, Obama made the false claim that 90% of the guns used in the shootings came from America knowing full well that his administration was about to hand over weapons to these very same drug cartels.

Actually Obama nor Holder knew anything about Fast & Furious. Also, there is no evidence that F&F guns were used in the death of the Border Patrolman. Some of those guns were in the area of the shooting.
You should also know that Your version of before fast and furious Is monumentally wrong. Fast And furious was started in 2006 under a different name. When Obama was elected the Arizona unit that was running the gunrunning change the name to fast and furious. You are extraordinarily misinformed. You should also know that approximately 90% of the guns used in Mexico to kill people come from the gun shops that exist in the thousands along the Mexican border that the NRA and the Republicans support keeping unregulated.

When the President said he wasn’t going to pursue charges against anyone for the Iraq war BS, I couldn’t believe it. Now the repukes repay his mercy by going after the President for BS that was started under Bush! I’m choking on the irony right now.

Amazing how much those on the right forget about the
40,000 or so guns that were lost in Iraq by then LTG
Patraeus. Or how the Congress is still waiting for Karl
Rove to appear before them to answer questions about
certain people being fired.
