Rick Perry’s Hardcore History of Investment in Porn
Rick Perry prays with Reverend C. L. Jackson
Here’s the story of how Rick Perry’s name became synonymous with “Teens with T*ts” in some circles. I’ve tried to make this safe for work, but if it’s not, blame Rick Perry, for such are the perils of reporting on good “Christians” like Mr James Richard Perry. If your employer has a problem with this, tell them to see Rick Perry; it’s his money trail we’re following.
Perhaps when you see Rick Perry’s bouffant pompadour, you don’t immediately think “cheerleader”, but pom-pon carrier he was, albeit for Texas A & M instead of the Bush Yale pom-pons that heralded the destruction of America’s economy. But you’re all right with pom-pons on a man. To each their own. You might not be OK with the whole Lieutenant Governor to George W Bush thing. You might not be OK with Perry’s theocratic beliefs. But truthfully, when you picture the handsome, smirking Rick Perry and his Texas down home drawl, are you thinking about pornography?
“Teens Never Say No” kind of pornography? How about “Teens with T*ts”? No? How about “Bisexual Barebacking Vol. 1″ or “Big Tit Brotha Lovers 6″?
Kinda makes you all warm and family values-ish.
Rick Perry, God’s Chosen to pray Texas into prosperity, invested as a private citizen in Movie Gallery corporation to the tune of between 5-10k according to his 1995 personal financial reports. Movie Gallery was, at that time, the largest distributor of porn in America, and able to sell and rent regular videos for much cheaper than the competition due to their heady porn profit. The ultra conservative American Family Association (AFA), a self-described “Christian organization promoting the biblical ethic of decency in American society with primary emphasis on TV and other media” known for “(i)nitiating, encouraging Christian Activism,” but also now an officially designated hate group according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, begged the government to investigate Movie Gallery.
In the ensuing years, the AFA went so far as to undertake a national ad campaign to draw attention to Movie Gallery’s porn practices, and www.redlanebaptist.org/cl… the DoJ and state AG’s demanding, “DOJ and State Prosecutors throughout the country should begin immediate investigations to determine if the products and practices of Movie Gallery Video Stores violate Federal and State laws regarding distribution of obscene material. Movie Gallery is one of America’s largest retailers of hard-core sex videos. Their attempt to acquire family friendly neighborhood Hollywood Video stores across the U.S. poses a serious threat to our communities!”
The AFA has also boycotted such companies as 7-Eleven, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Airlines, American Girl, Blockbuster Video, Burger King, Calvin Klein, Carl’s Jr., Clorox, Comcast, Crest, Ford, Hallmark Cards, Kmart, Kraft Foods, S. C. Johnson & Son, Microsoft, MTV, Mary Kay, NutriSystem, Old Navy, IKEA, Sears, Pampers, Procter & Gamble, Target, Tide, Walt Disney Company, and PepsiCo with varying degrees of success.
Burt Orange Reports said it appeared as if local authorities in Texas dragged their feet responding to the cries for investigations, in spite of the fact that The Politics In Porn (note that this link from 2006 is no longer working and the domain name is now available — don’t say I never did anything for you) wrote, “Government Officials who have been given the evidence of this illegal operation are … the U.S. District attys for the Northern Districts of Alabama and Texas.”
Not only is the AFA is a core constituency of an extreme, far Christian-right candidate, but as Hrafnkell Haraldsson reported for PoliticusUSA, Perry teamed up with the AFA for his recent prayer day rally, “The Response, a Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis.” Just this March, we saw then Presidential candidacy hopefuls Newt Gingrich, Haley Barbour and Mike Huckabee courting the AFA by appearing on Bryan Fisher’s radio show. So it’s puzzling that Perry invested his money in something he must have been aware violated the very core of his alleged pro-life, pro-family, pro-conservative values. However, Perry put his holdings into a blind trust in 1998, and hence, no one knows if he is still profiting off of pornography. Perhaps the AFA doesn’t care if their Presidential pick is profiting off of pornography so allegedly obscene that they demanded the DoJ investigate.
Rick Perry later passed laws to help companies like Movie Gallery avoid “frivolous” tort suits, after they were sued for allegedly violating the law by illegally distributing porn across state lines. This move was seen by some as a move to protect his investment in Movie Gallery, as he used the very word Movie Gallery used (“frivolous”) regarding the lawsuits they were fighting at the time.
Written on Jun 26, 2006, the Burnt Orange Report elaborated on Perry’s porn problem:
Coincidentally, Rick Perry used similar language when signing the tort-reform bill that limited the liability—thereby increasing profits—of companies like Movie Gallery. Perry said the bill would “remov[e] the incentive for trial lawyers to file frivolous lawsuits.” Continuing Perry said, “we will save thousands of jobs, generate millions in new revenue to the state;” only some of those jobs come at the price of young girl’s physical and psychological health.
The AFA has undertaken a nationwide campaign—advertising in USA Today and Washington Post—urging government officials to investigate Movie Gallery. Many local authorities—like the U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Texas—are allegedly dragging their feet. With Gov. Perry owning stock in Movie Gallery, his financial interests contravene the success of any such investigation….
“Titles that Gov. Perry helps bring to Texas’ shelves include Teens with Tits Vol. 1, Teen Power Vol. 4, and Teens Never Say No.
While many disagree over society’s correct policy towards pornography, Perry’s political posturing caters to pornography’s opponents. Duplicitously, Rick Perry’s supposed politics contravene the interests of his own pocketbook. There is the Governor who endorses a plan to monitor sex offenders with satellites; then there is businessman who enjoys profits by funding such titles as Bisexual Barebacking Vol. 1 and Big Tit Brotha Lovers 6. There is the proud husband and father who announced an award of $7.4 Million to the S.T.O.P. Violence Against Women Act programs; then there is the man who invested in North America’s largest pornography distributor. In the coming weeks, there will doubtlessly be the ignorant, apologetic Governor, but under that thin veneer of good hair is the cunning financier who still hides his assets in a blind trust fund.
Given that traditionally conservative states consume the most online porn, according to the Journal of Economic Perspectives (which looked at zip codes of credit cards used for online adult entertainment), we can’t assume that just because a group is against something in public they aren’t engaging in it in private. But the Dominionists like Perry and Bachmann are taking us a step down even from that perilous perch — to a place where women are expected to be subservient to the men in their life.
If you’re still slightly confused as to why the AFA isn’t calling Rick Perry out, and how conservatives can ignore such glaring hypocrisy, it’s because they worship at the altar of a political movement based on belief in authoritarianism and a sense of entitlement for “the Chosen”. Anything that Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, or Sarah Palin do is OK. God said so. And their cult-like followers will contort themselves into a breathless internet rage in order to explain to you that none of this matters, what really matters is that the President is a Muslim Socialists Kenyan Nazi. Apparently this line of “thinking” suffices for them because they are in a cult based on belief and not real values, but also because they have bought into the meme that these special leaders are exempt from accountability for what they say. This is why you see the outrage over “gotcha” journalism from the same folks.
What kind of man are we dealing with in Rick Perry? Is he still profiting off of what the AFA calls obscene pornography? Is he still making money off of titles like “Teens with Tits”? In keeping with this line of inquiry into his purported “family values”, we note that Perry also kept on the director of the Texas Film Commission who was disciplined for sexual harassment…twice.
The Statesman reported, “Gov. Rick Perry’s outgoing director of the Texas Film Commission has been allowed to stay on the job despite being disciplined for sexual harassment in 2009 and after a subsequent investigation found similar behavior again this year.”
What disturbs me about these two facts is how well they dovetail with the Dominionists’ ideas about women being subservient to the patriarch.
The twin balls of decorative fluff known as the cheerleader’s Pom-pons aptly sum up the depth of Rick Perry’s alleged Christian family values. On one hand, we have a man invested in and profiting off of what the AFA called “obscene pornography” and a man who allowed a man twice found guilty of sexual harassment to remain in his government position. On the other hand, this same man calls himself a “family-values” Christian, and nary a peep comes from the Right to call him out.
It’s not about whether you agree with conservative values or not (but this is often how the conservatives distract people from calling their leaders out, by making it about the alleged values rather than the failure to uphold said values), but rather whether or not the candidate actually stands for what they say they stand for.
If Rick Perry doesn’t walk the talk of a conservative Christian, just what does Rick Perry stand for?
Image: Not sure if this is the actual image for Movie Gallery’s video on this topic as I am not up on these matters, but it was the least offensive of the offerings and at any rate, we’ve attempted to make it safe for work without taking away from the point. I apologize preemptively for the vulgarity of reporting on Rick Perry and the word used in the video title.

Well, first, let me assure you all, here on this site that this story gives me real hope that Perry will be exposed for the hypocrite that he is, even well beyond the porn issue. I need to know the answer to the question posed in the article, but never answered. Is he currently an investor, or not? Was he in 2006? I’m sorry, but it just isn’t clear to me. If I am going to bring this before my mainstream conservative friends, I must know where the issue currently stands.
Let me only say you are dead wrong if you think the average family-values-voter will overlook this kind of thing. The last thing we want is a Republican Bill Clinton on our hands. We certainly don’t want to spend the next four years apologizing or making excuses and being embarrassed by a supposedly moral man. You are correct that it will be like pulling teeth to get the MSM to cover it, so we individuals have to talk it up. More info, please.

I blacked out the critical areas- it was a transparent top and I cropped the photo so as to not include the bottom area. Remember, this was porn back in the late 90′s to mid 2000′s – though I can assure you, it was the least offensive of the choices given the title. There were some …well. Let’s leave it at that.

Exactly. The list of the porn they made was repugnant – this isn’t just adult fun. Hopefully they didn’t use real teenagers, but the notion is bad enough.

I read an article this morning about a guy who was following a online Minister, who also ran a large church. Not sure if it was on television. In any case the guy talked about the mansion that the minister lived that that he would frequently go to, where there was sex for everyone along with valuable antique coins in all types of riches. It doesn’t surprise me why the AFA doesn’t call Rick Perry out. I’m sure they will do anything to bury that type of story
The guy on talking to wrote a book, and in the book he tells about trying to get the ministers 400 pound safe down a long stairway. But for the life of me I cannot remember the ministers name. Not sure this will ever come out in the news because it may or may not make money for CNN
Here is is
“Six months studying at Christ for the Nations to be a good missionary and yet there I was… drunk, high, and trying to push the television evangelist Mike Murdock’s six hundred pound safe down a flight of stairs.”

Mike Murdock is one of the biggest perpetrators of the “Prosperity Gospel” (or “Health and Wealth” or “Name It and Claim It”) movement. I have never once heard the man talk about salvation, but everything he says is about money and how to become financially rich. The only people who become rich by these ministers (many of them televangelists) are the ministers themselves. However, they have many people believing that they will be wealthy in the future, and from this comes the conservative fiscal movement from the Tea Party and the Right.

The more serious Perry becomes about this whole running-for-president thing, the funnier it gets. It’s as if he actually thinks he has a chance. If anyone cares to have a serious look at his “achievements” as Governor, there’s nothing there that indicates that Governor GoodHair is anything like a good leader. Thanks for this, reposting.

good article. it’s strange that so many evangelicals use religion as a crutch. when they are pounding the bible they are on the straight & narrow. when not they seem to have affairs, sponsor or look at porn, & other things their religion says are bad. you either have morals & integrity or you don’t & religion doesn’t have anything to do with it. but it seems guys like perry preach one line & practice another. politics is corrupt enough without we the people having to endure this character.

Perry and others don’t really have to worry too much, should they be ousted and found out. All they have to do is say: “I have sinned and repented and Jesus has forgiven me”, and all is forgotten. Then after that they will mention as many democrats who have done similar things and in the end it is Weiner who is despicle not them.

All politicians are corrupt and crave power. For example Obama admitted to snorting cocaine and he a product of the Chicago political machine which has been proven many times being corrupt

So is he corrupt and can you prove it, and is he really a product of the Chicago political machine or did Rush just tell you that?
But then again, Perry is running on a heavy religious theme, and porn is sometimes frowned on by some religions

Prove it, yes. The book titled “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream” by Obama sates he snorted cocaine while in college. Curious why the reference to Rush because I can think for myself and come to my own conclusions.

Wrong book reference. The accurate book is “Dreams of My Father” Also here is a NY Time article to reaffirm the claim.
www.nytimes.com/2006/10/2...
Also, go back and read my original comment when I said, “all politicians” are corrupt. Be it Democrat or Republican. If you can donate $1M to their campaign they will listen, but if you’re an ordinary AMERICAN citizen, they won’t have the time of day for you.
Shiva (Moderator)

There is a can be connection because nobody can ascend the political ladder in Chicago without help or influence. Also I read various articles and periodicals and came to my own conclusion. As for the connection between Daley and Obama there’s nothing concrete

You have to be open for a debate instead of attempting to hurl insults hiding in Internet land. For example, if you wanted only one side of an argument, you could have lived in the former Soviet Union, be a “Good Comrade” and state the party line, and don’t you dare have a difference of opinion, or off to the gulag you go.

I’m all for porn, and not just because as a deaf man, I’m visually oriented. Men watch, women feel, to make a biological generalization. Porn has been shown to lower the incidents of sexual assault in the population at large, when it’s readily available without any stigma. As several Europeans have told me: if you can see it on the beach, you can see it on television. Sex isn’t evil. Unfortunately that philosophy really isn’t the case in the United States, a country that can’t relinquish its legacy of a nation founded by puritans. I’m glad to see that the group here is aware that porn, so long as it’s produced by consenting adults, isn’t inherently a bad thing. Kudos all around!
Perry and the AFA ignoring their contentious and litigious relationship solely to present a unified front at the Prayer Rally is disgusting in its scope of hypocrisy. It’s on a par with George Rekers secret life with rent boys while denying rights to other homosexuals, or Mark Foley’s placement on a committee to prevent online predation on teens at the same time he is texting his own pages. David Vitter promoted Brent Furer to Women’s Liason despite his violent assault on his girlfriend. Kevin Garn, of Utah- the state that often spends the most money on pornography- paid $150K for being naked in a hot tub with a fifteen year old girl. I’d be curious to see how many people involved in the Dreamboard Child Porn arrests last week are registered Republicans. Yet Anthony Weiner is the worst person on the planet…
Ignoring the legislation that made their case harder, the AFA endorsing Perry just goes to show that the main priority for everyone involved is getting votes for the extreme Right Wing. Women truly are objects, vessels for children, as described in the Quiverfull article. Making money seems to trump the welfare and rights of women and children. Sex is the biggest boogeyman for Dominionists, unfortunately the worst parts of their sexuality seems to be hiding in the closet, waiting to be discovered.

Wow. I’ll be honest, as aware as I am that these people are all generally hypocrites with skeletons in their closets, under their beds, and shoring up the foundations of their homes, I didn’t see this coming.
This is the problem with the arrogance of the religious right, and especially the Dominionists. This sort of blind self-love just warps your whole worldview to an obscene degree. It’s cognitive biases run amok and allowed to coalesce into a “philosophy.”
If these are God’s “chosen” people, then God either has no sense of taste or he’s a sadist.

Don’t you people realize that Movie Gallery was the major competitor of Blockbuster and Netflix. It rented all kinds of movies until it got squeezed out by Netflix and on line comnpetitors and was liquidated in Chapter 11. I’m no Perry fan but this is like saying because he invested in the parent company of HBO and they show nudity that he is an awful person. I suppose that the author of this column and none of the commentators hav ever rented from Blockbuster or Netflix. And $10,000 is peanuts in the scope of investing. This is a non story.

Austin, TX—Via his campaign’s website, Governor Perry criticizes his opponent—Carole Strayhorn—claiming she, “is sadly not above exploiting child tragedies … What a despicable thing to do.” FN1. Despicable indeed. Yet, as a private citizen, Perry has profited from his investments in Movie Gallery, Inc—America’s largest pornography distributor—a company that profits from exploitation and violence against women. FN2.
When running for Lieutenant Governor, Rick Perry combined his publicly traded stocks into a blind trust—Perry Blind Trust, Inc. FN3. Thus, Perry’s subsequent Personal Financial Statements reveal little about his stock holdings. FN4. However, Perry’s 1995 Personal Financial Statement—the final revealing record of Perry’s assets—shows that he invested in thirty-two stocks, including Movie Gallery, Inc. FN5. While the precise amount of the investment is not revealed, Perry listed the stock in category “B”—meaning that the stock was worth between five and ten thousand dollars. FN6. Most of Perry’s stock fell into the class “B” category.
Based in Dothan, Alabama, Movie Gallery boasts being the second largest North American home-entertainment specialty retailer after Blockbuster; Movie Gallery has more than 4700 stores located in all fifty states, Mexico, and Canada. FN8. Movie Gallery is also both the largest distributor of pornography in America and the only major retail chain to sell pornography in its flagship stores.
As reported in Forbes, Movie Gallery possesses a winning business model, which has allowed it to acquire the much-larger franchise Hollywood Video. FN10. Forbes reports that pornography increases Movie Gallery’s profits enough to lowball the prices on regular, non-pornographic rentals. FN11. Pornography is a unique product that many stores are reluctant to sell. Movie Gallery’s practices have forced small, locally owned rental chains out of business.
Zealously boycotted by the conservative, two-million-strong American Family Association (AFA), Movie Gallery faces two lawsuits because of its allegedly illegal business practices. FN13. Smaller competing video stores claim that Movie Gallery illegally distributes porn across state lines. FN14. Movie Gallery’s Interim Chief Financial Officer, Thomas D. I wanted to check how strong was the connection was between Movie Gallery and porn. Wikipedia doesn’t mention it:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mov...
but here’s a video purporting to show a minor buying porn at one location in Texas
video.google.com/videopla...
As can be seen, the place appears to be well stocked.

The caption says:
Monor[sic] buys illegal porn at Movie Gallery
09:42 – 3 years ago
This 17 year old girl easily walks right into a Movie Gallery “Adults Only” Room without having her I.D. checked, then buys the illegal porn without having her I.D. checked. The video was filmed in Texas, a state which prohibits the sale of any pornography to anyone under 18. Clearly, this proves that Movie Gallery not only DOES sell ILLEGAL pornography, but also does not care who buys it, just as long as they make their money. More information on the illegal porn Movie Gallery sells, including child porn, rape scenes, beastiality, can be found on www.IllegalAdvantage.com

Sorry, but all that proves is that someone at that particular Movie Gallery store was not on the ball in verifying ID. And, only the owner of that particular store, not the entire chain, should be sanctioned for violating the rules. Do we close down entire stores for violating alcohol sales because one cashier forgets to check for valid ID??
Also…it’s highly debatable that a 17 year old would be irreperably harmed by the sight of consenting adults engaging in sex acts. Unless there is irrefutable proof that Movie Gallery is in fact engaging in selling porn that is abusive, underage, or otherwise illegal, I take any accusations of such with a strip mine’s worth of salt.
And if they are, then those directly involved should be arrested and aggressively prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Legal consensual adult porn, on the other hand, should still be protected under the First Amendment as free expression.

I’m not putting myself forward as an anti-porn crusader. Nor did I have anything to do with the film or anyone involved with it.
I posted the link because the clip shows some support for Sarah’s depiction of Perry as a porn investor, more of a hypocrite than the sort of fervent Christian he claims to be.
The film does show an amount of porn on display sufficient to make any customer aware of its availability, and undermines any claim by Perry that he didn’t know anything about it.

A few points that I would like to add on Sarah’s outstanding article (as well as a tiny bit of dissent to her definition of porn::
1) It should be reminded that at the time that Goodhair Perry made his “investment” in Movie Gallery, the mails was still the primary means of transporting porn to its consumers; the Internet and online streaming had not yet been perfected as of yet. Therein, given the natural advantage that porn had as one of the safest and most profitable investments around, it is hardly surprising that wealthy people, even conservatives like Perry, would see companies like Movie Gallery as safe investments, even as they publically played the “pious” role of aggrieved moral commisars for their fundamentalist Christian political base.
2) However one may personally dislike the asthetic taste of the content of the movies that Movie Gallery distributed (and even I, as an devout consumer of non-violent consensual adult sexual material, reserve my right not to purchase material that does not meet may personal asthetic or erotic taste), as long as the models and/or performers in these films are of legal age, are fully consenting with the sexual acts that they perform on camera (or online), that they are fully and fairly compensated for their efforts, and no other laws concerning assault or battery are being violated, then there should be no issue with legality. However you may be disgusted with titles such as “Teens With Tits” or how much one can show on public access blogs such as this one, until actual laws concerning underage production or actual coercion or violence are violated, fundamental freedom of consensual sexual expression should be the rule, not the exception.
3) The real issue with Rick Perry should NOT be merely that he invested some of his money into a company that produced hardcore legal consensual sexual entertainment; he has as much right to invest his money in whatever he chooses as any one else. The genuine issue should be the gross hypocrisy of Goodhair publically condemning the rest of the public for making the same choices in private that he chose, even to the point of using the full powers of the State to punish those who would exercise the same rights and privileges that he assumes for himself. In other words, it’s not as much the porn that’s the problem…it’s the political hypocrisy.
4) in addition, the main issue with the American Family Association and other assorted right-wing “Christian” fundamentalist Right/Dominionist groups should NOT just be that they merely give Goodhair a free pass for his private investments merely because he is a public supporter of their larger aims for society. Rather, it should be that those aims themselves are to impose a blatantly reactionary, autocratic, and outright fascist theocracy that would desecrate and violate millions of innocent Americans merely for their being of the wrong religion, the wrong gender, the wrong race, or having the “politically incorrect” type of sex without the supposedly “proper” consequences. (And I mean “politically correct” in the RIGHT-wing sense.) Even if they did manage to walk their talk about following their values, their agenda would still be equally corrosive and reactionary and in direct opposition to the concept of egalitarian democracy.
Nevertheless, this episode proves without a doubt — on top of the other agrievous behavior and political positions that Rick Perry has advocated and enforced, that he is nowhere near qualified to be a nominee for the office of the President of the United States of America. And..that the American Family Association in and of itself is even less qualified to pass any judgment on any politician for his/her private affairs, due to their hypocrisy in allowing certain politicians a free pass due to fidelity to their reactionary agenda, all while punishing severely innocent people who do no harm merely because of personal pique of disliking their private sexual affairs.
Those caveats aside, Sarah….an outstanding and much needed expose. I tip my hat to you.

Anthony: Are you saying that Perry (the investor) asked that you (the potential customer) not buy/rent his product? Sure.
Also, we don’t know if the videos were legal. The title of at least some include the word “teens.” Unless those “teens” were of legal age………..
Anthony Kennerson
Aug. 17th, 2011 at 1:34 pm
Donna….not really, because $10K investment in a company that has gross profits in the millions, is small change indeed. He didn’t own the company…he just profited from it as an investor.
Plenty of porn titles have the words “teen” in it, and that means exactly…not much. You could be 18 or 19, you know, or be even above that and portray a “barely legal” teen. The important thing legally is not the portrayal or the title; it’s the actual age of the performer. If she’s over 18 and consents to the model release, there there is no legal issue. And even if they were found to be underage, the primary responsibility should be with the producers, whom have just committed a felony statutory rape crime, and need to be put behind bars.
Now, the personal asthetics of playing a “teen” that looks underage?? That’s a fundamentally different kettle of fish, and one that can be debated.

The entire point of the story is that the AFA, the foundation of Perry’s religious beliefs, which is the foundation of his popularity with a certain segment of the population, was going after Movie Gallery for “illegal” distribution of porn across state lines. He knew about the “obscene porn” (AFA’s words)- they sent a letter to his US District Attorney and he supposedly went to church and listens to AFA radio. Porn was the largest part of that company, it drove the business model, it was hardly a by product. I noted the Forbes article above which lays this out.
There’s no minimizing this within the context of Perry’s own stated religious beliefs. And as I wrote clearly, this isn’t about what YOU or I believe, and as I wrote, people would try to make it about that to get Perry off the hook– but it’s not about that. It’s about what HE claims to stand for.

I had a movie gallery in my town. It had a small “adults only” room in the back. But mostly it was like a Blockbuster or whatever. Seems a stretch to say he invested in porn. I mean if he actually invested in the making of porn, then sure burn him. But yeah. And as far being a cheerleader ha! Do some research. A&M has yell leaders, an all male division of the corp cadets. The military ROTC program. Not quite pom pom material. I’m not a Rick Perry fan per say, but this article is spun outta control.
Donna Mollaun
Aug. 17th, 2011 at 9:19 am
Out of control? The article is merely stating facts. A man who claims to be on the side of God, invested in stores that carried porn — back room or not. The titles of the videos included “teens.”
BTW: SodaHead has a similar story with other details.

.I am not sure why you would judge a very large corporation on the store that you had in your town. That’s a little bit like me judging the United States as being wildly out-of-control because I live in a conservative right wing nut job area. Movie Gallery was the largest distributor of hard-core porn in the United States when it was in business.

Did anyone bother to investigate all the other items that “Movie Gallery” sells? The company sold/sells all types of movies and movie paraphernalia (posters, movie memorabilia, etc.). So porn may have been one of their products. Can you say the same about me, since I invested in a company called World Wide News where I live, and UT-oh, they sell Playboy and Hustler, along with over 1000+ other magazine titles. Worry about what your savior “The Big O” is doing to this country (39% approval rating, was Bush’s ever that low?) before you try to denigrate someone who invested in a company years ago. Where is your disgust with the background of our Treasury Secretary, considering his ties to Goldman-Sachs? What a bunch of whiners…
Shiva (Moderator)
Aug. 17th, 2011 at 9:57 am
yes, the Bush ratings were in the 20s.
Secondly, movie Gallery was the largest distributor of porn at the time. Mr. Perry is supposedly a huge giant Christian. Do you get the connection yet?
I doubt it. By the way could you bring up something more irrelevant like are we not upset about the color green being changed in Ireland?
Donna Mollaun
Aug. 17th, 2011 at 10:20 am
Let’s not forget that the porn is what made the Movie Gallery profitable and “teens” were in the titles. It’s absolutely relevant.
BTW: Texas now requires sonic probes for raped women before they can abort the pregnancies. What a sick thing to do to a woman who has already been traumatized! These Christian perverts are obsessed with vaginas.
Anthony Kennerson
Aug. 17th, 2011 at 1:24 pm
Actually, it’s 41% (latest Gallup poll)….and I wouildn’t beat my breasts too loud if I were a Republican, because Congress’ ratings are even worse. Try 16% for House Republicans.
And as a Left Independent, I’m not so kind of Gethner and Summers, either…but they aren’t fascists…they’re merely Wall Street shills.
The point is that Movie Gallery made the choice to offer adult porn at their stores, and Goodhair made the choice to invest his money in them, and to pass “tort reform” protecting them from the “frivilous lawsuits” of the AFA. Not necessarily a bad thing, IMHO…unless you were squawking loud and proud about being the most moral right-wing Christian everywhere..as Perry’s now trying to do (see “The Response”).

In the few days since Perry has announced his intention to run, he has done a bang-up job of discrediting himself. He resorts to seditious remarks against the president and Ben Bernake, because his record as governor is atrocious. His remarks are so egregious that there are even fellow Republicans who feel he has gone too far. Now, learning that he has invested in porn only does even more to undermine his claims to represent family values. In view of the fact that there are Republicans in his own state who cannot stand him, Democrats don’t have to do one thing to him except to keep hammering inconvenient truths about him. Just as in the cases of Palin and Bachmann, Perry’s mouth is the most effective weapon against him.

I think Rick Perry is a joke, particularly once you start digging into his job creation claims. But the article claims that he made the investment but doesn’t show any record of the actual investment. Do you have a link to the 1995 finances report or third party reporting on it? If not, how do we know that he really made the investment? Can you update the article to provide this info? Other than that great article.
Now I did find this one:

But coincidentally the 1995 is the only one missing due to “scanner problems”. Ever hear of Kinkos?
So I think that I’m going to file this one under Too Good to Be True with a cross file of “Typical Sloppy Blogging”. I appologize if the link is in the comments somewhere and I didn’t see it. Sigh. And I just wasted 30 minutes reading this.

You had me until you mentioned the Texas Film Commissioner. Here your story falls apart. A very quick look into the subject finds that the commissioner in question resigned over a year ago. There are many of us here in Texas who knew the Commissioner quite well, know more about the back story, and know the sexual harassment was a political move to remove the commissioner. I will not go into detail on his resignation, but it was an obvious smear campagn similar to firing the Lunch Lady for calling you “Sugar”.

SPLC is certainly no better than the AFA on their end of the spectrum. Though I find it interesting that the article defends their position by quoting the position of an organization that they deem lacks credibility. I’m also surprised that the article separates pornography from human liberation. Perry (who I agree- total scumbag…if he gets anywhere near the GOP nomination, we all might as well shoot ourselves) is a hypocrite because pornography exploits women? I thought sexual liberalization for women was a right of passage. There’s no mention that this is the same Governor, Rick Perry, who took thousands $ in campaign funds from Merk Pharmaceuticals, the makers of Viiox (The FDA estimates that Vioxx may have contributed to 27,785 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths between 1999 and 2003) and Gardsil herpes (HPV) vaccine to push the Texas legislature to pass a law requiring every girl over twelve be forced to take their herpes (HPV) vaccine Gardsil, despite the fact that its long-term effects are unknown and it has been connected to the “unexplained” deaths of a number of girls. This alone should disqualify him from ever running for any office, except maybe town exterminator. He was forced to withdraw his legislative proposal for forced vaccinations when his ties to Merk were exposed.
“Anaphylactic shock,” “foaming at mouth,” “grand mal convulsion,” “coma” and “now paralyzed” are a few of the startling descriptions included in a new federal report describing the complications from Merck & Co.’s Gardasil medication for sexually transmitted human papillomavirus – which has been proposed as mandatory for all schoolgirls. The document was obtained from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
CDC
Reports to VAERS Following Gardasil®

VAERS received 423 reports of unknown gender. Serious adverse event reports
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) has been reported after vaccination with Gardasil® . Blood Clots
There have been some reports of blood clots in females after receiving Gardasil®. These clots have occurred in the heart, lungs, and legs.

As of June 22, 2011 there have been a total 68 VAERS reports of death among those who have received Gardasil® . There were 54 reports among females, 3 were among males, and 11 were reports of unknown gender.
AUSTIN (AP) — Gov. Rick Perry ordered Friday that schoolgirls in Texas must be vaccinated against the sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer, making Texas the first state to require the shots.
The girls will have to get Merck & Co.’s new vaccine against strains of the human papillomavirus, or HPV that are responsible for most cases of cervical cancer.
Rick Perry’s Ties with Merck Run Deep
AUSTIN (AP) — Gov. Rick Perry ordered Friday that schoolgirls in Texas must be vaccinated against the sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer, making Texas the first state to require the shots. Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass laws in state legislatures across the country mandating it Gardasil vaccine for girls as young as 11 or 12. It doubled its lobbying budget in Texas and has funneled money through the anti-feminist Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of right-wing female state legislators around the country. The Associated Press that he was signing the order and he would comment Friday afternoon.
Perry has several ties to Merck and Women in Government. One of the drug company’s three lobbyists in Texas is Mike Toomey, his former chief of staff. His current chief of staff’s mother-in-law, Texas Republican state Rep. Dianne White Delisi, is a state director for Women in Government.

Rick Perry’s entourage would bring up young girls, many times who were exotic dancers, and other hotties, to his hotel room for his extracurricular activities. His wife knows all about his adulterous activities and blindly puts up with it.
Yes, perry is a Bilderberger. If you have no idea who the Bilderbergers are you need to do a little home work. Jim Tucker has been shadowing these NWO creeps for decades and now one of their own wants to be pres?
We need to have a law passed that would forbid anyone from Texas (save Ron Paul)from getting into the White House. How ironic that there are such two ideologically and politically opposed people running for president in the same party, yet only one makes real sense and the other is an adulterer and a hypocrite as well as a NWO Bilderberger.
Perry will say and do anything for his own selfish, self centered egomania. Of course he will use religion as well simply because he knows how to wrangle votes from the flock, many of whom have no more intellect than a sheep.
Perry is just another example of the political trash that now litters the landscape of America, along with Palin, Bachman, Romney and Huntsman, and don’t forget Barky O’Bomber, who have no idea what to do except to come up with worthless slogans and whacked out religious rapture crapture.
We need people who are truly concerned about getting America back on its feet and out of needless, unconstitutional and illegal wars for profit or israhell. We need people who have the courage to cut useless spending where it is not needed: The Military Industrial Complex which devours the wealth and youth of America, military bases around the world: 750-1000 in 130 countries which cost Americans hundreds of billions of dollars, useless dictatorial bureaucracies who are trying to control ever aspect of our lives, Wall St. and the federal reserve which is nothing but a crime syndicate stealing America’s wealth. The list goes on and on.
Vote Ron Paul!
