Romney Campaign Shames America By Criticizing POTUS on Foreign Soil
By: Sarah JonesJul. 25th, 2012more from Sarah Jones
After promising not to attack President Obama on foreign soil, Mitt Romney let’s his advisers do it for him. I suspected after Romney’s unprecedented debacle with the Australian Foreign Minister that Romney’s overseas show, designed to put to bed his lack of credentials in foreign policy, would be a disaster. I had no idea it would happen so quickly.
And how do Romney’s people attack the President? I’ll give you a guess. These are the people who are pushing the meme that the President is “foreign” and not to subtly catering to the birthers. If you guessed an ode to racism, you win.
The Romney advisers told the Telegraph UK that Romney is part of the “Anglo-Saxon” heritage, a history that Obama does not share.
No, really:
As the Republican presidential challenger accused Barack Obama of appeasing America’s enemies in his first foreign policy speech of the US general election campaign, advisers told The Daily Telegraph that he would abandon Mr Obama’s “Left-wing” coolness towards London.
In remarks that may prompt accusations of racial insensitivity, one suggested that Mr Romney was better placed to understand the depth of ties between the two countries than Mr Obama, whose father was from Africa.
“We are part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage, and he feels that the special relationship is special,” the adviser said of Mr Romney, adding: “The White House didn’t fully appreciate the shared history we have”.
This might be a good time to mention that Obama’s Kansas born grandfather (who raised Obama after the age of 10), Stanley Dunham, was a 26-year-old supply sergeant stationed near the English Channel with the U.S. Army Air Forces when the invasion of Normandy began.
If you’re wondering why the Romney camp is going for the lowest common denominator yet again, it’s because they have nothing else. You see, they don’t even know what their policy would be, and can’t define how it would be any different from Obama’s:
The advisers could not give detailed examples of how policy towards Britain would differ under Mr Romney. One conceded that on the European crisis: “I’m not sure what our policy response is.”
This is nothing new, as Romney has avoided specifics on his Afghanistan policy as well, another subject you people don’t need to know about, apparently — even as deployed troops and their families might appreciate knowing exactly where the candidate stands on the matter.
And then you have to wonder at their claim that unlike Obama, Romney cares about Islamic terrorism, as if it weren’t under President Obama’s direction that we finally got Osama.
Ignoring Obama’s instructions that their political differences should end at the “water’s edge” (in other words, stick together as Americans please), the Romney advisers simply undermined the American President during a time of war but refused to be named as they criticized the President on foreign soil (it doesn’t count if you do it like a coward, right?). Telegraph UK wrote, “after leaving London, he (Romney) will deliver a speech in Jerusalem on Sunday, again threatening Iran and criticising Mr Obama for declining to visit Israel since taking office.”
Yes, well, thanks for standing by us, Mitt Romney.
We expected this after he put words in Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr’s mouth in order to criticize Obama by proxy, causing the distraught Australian to have to issue a clarification of exactly what he said to Romney and how Romney got it wrong.
Romney has just embarked on his Criticize the American President on Foreign Soil tour, so buckle up. Remember when criticizing the President wasn’t even allowed by musicians when we had a Republican president?
This is just a week after the Romney camp started their desperate birther smear campaign in an effort to distract you people from his refusal to show you his tax returns and his Bain I was there, I wasn’t there dance:
Indeed, the Romney team, and even Romney himself, spent all of Tuesday painting the president as not a “real” American. Here is a timeline of the campaign’s orchestrated smear:
11:00 AM — OBAMA IS ‘SMOKING SOMETHING,’ GREW UP IN INDONESIA: Obama “has no idea how the American system functions, and we shouldn’t be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent the next set of years in Indonesia, another set of years in Indonesia, and, frankly, when he came to the U.S. he worked as a community organizer, which is a socialized structure, and then got into politics in Chicago.” [Co-chair John Sununu, Fox News]
11:30 AM — OBAMA HAS TO ‘LEARN HOW TO BE AN AMERICAN’: “The men and women all over America who have worked hard to build these businesses, their businesses, from the ground up is how our economy became the envy of the world. It is the American way. And I wish this president would learn how to be an American. [Co-chair John Sununu, Romney campaign conference call]
Romney is starting to remind me of Sarah Palin in all the wrong ways, and that’s a shame for a man who is clearly smart and capable of so much more. Whereas Palin was a true believer and a real racist, Romney is not. He knows better than this, but he can’t seem to help himself. The lure of power is enough to make him drop all pretense of the stiff formality and blue blood he represents, but even when stooping down to catch the sewer rats, Romney lacks the vitality of Palin. He can’t even honestly connect with the racists in his party. Romney is indeed a classist, which usually translates to policies that fail to take in all minority interests, but he’s letting his advisers go full Southern Strategy racist.
These are the tactics of a candidate who is desperately hoping to avoid a real discussion on foreign policy. Perhaps he doesn’t want Americans to realize that he’s staffed to the gills with war hawk ex Bushies. Romney is still beating the Iran war drums, and maybe he doesn’t want to talk about his draft dodging days in France selling Mormonism to the elite socialists.
I didn’t realize it was an Anglo-Saxon tradition for a war-hawk draft-dodger to cowardly undermine one’s own country via one’s entourage. Is the Romney camp suggesting that only a white Anglo-Saxon can properly run America?
The job of President requires skill in international relations and diplomacy. We’ve yet to see Romney demonstrate that he can finesse his way through tricky situations with a modicum of grace, let alone keep from making the sort of mistake he made with Bob Carr. That mistake eclipsed even novice Sarah Palin’s handling of foreign policy when she was a candidate. At least she waited until she lost to undermine America while overseas.
Romney’s crass efforts to avoid a real discussion once again involve throwing the red meat of not even covert racism into the arena while he runs the other way.

The Dixie Chicks never ran for POTUS. The Dixie Chicks NEVER criticized Dumbya on foreign soil. You are seriously comparing a band to a Presidential contenders advisers. You are a fool…

No seriously I could care less. Someone wants to call someone out, I don’t care if it’s on the moon, he can do it. I was POed when the Dixie Chicks got blackballed because they said they were ashamed of their president. I agreed with what they said!. I’m not going to be a hypocrite now and say that Willard can’t say what he wants about the President. You go ahead and get on your condescending high horse about Mitt and how he dared say anything about the Pres on foreign soil. I prefer to take the high road and allow a person to have their free speech no matter where they are. If that makes me foolish then I guess I am. Rather be foolish and right than be a hypocrite and wrong.

In fact, I totally agreed with the Dixie Chicks. President Obama is smart, and compassionate. That says it all!

How silly of them to think Barack Obama has no Anglo-Saxon heritage with his white Anglo-Saxon mother descended from King Edward of England, which makes Obama related to most of the previous Presidents.
The man with more Anglo-Saxon royal genes almost always wins the presidential election, and Obama has more English royal genes than Romney.

Where is all the “real America” patriotic outrage we witnessed when entertainers, Dixie Chicks, expressed a personal opinion about a president? We’re in a war, Willard’s on foreign soil, and no yokel outrage? Oh I get it; African American President. My colleagues in the U.K. said it’s because America is the most racist nation on Earth. I concur.

“Is the Romney camp suggesting that only a white Anglo-Saxon can properly run America?”
Apparently the GOP/Fox has dumbed their base down so far that dogs whistles/code words are unintelligible to them now, so they’re forced to come right out and say the formerly unsayable.
Retroactively, the Romney camp cowards will deny their words. IOKIYAR

Maybe its time to start looking at Mitt’s background. Grandfather left for Mexico when US banned polygamy in Utah. Did he renounce his US citizenship? Since Grandfather had a number of wives, what racial background did Mitt’s biological grandmother have? Was Mitt’s father an American citizen, or did everybody sorta ignore things? Mitt’s mother was born in Utah, so Mitt is an American citizen for sure. But is he really all that different than Barack?

Ok, what did you expect from a Mormon Bishop, who spent his time dodging the draft in France trying to convince wine drinkers to become tea totalers and being in a car wreck that killed a passenger in his car. What do you expect from a guy who has Swiss bank accounts, money in Pirate Banks in the Caymans, Panama and god knows what other places. What do you expect from a guy who exported American Jobs to every foreign sea port he could find. What do you expect from a guy who has been running for any public office he could find for 20 years and only won one election for an office he couldn’t leave fast enough. This guy is so foreign I’m surprised he hasn’t bought homes in Europe.

Excellent points! Romney should move to foreign soil. He helps the economies of foreign countries, while profiteering and evading US taxes, and leaves American workers upended,on unemployment and homeless.

Romney disrespects our President’s heritage??!! An American is an American. Our heritage is similar and different for every American citizen and that diversity should be respected.
So is Romney saying he is not the appropriate president for America because of our diversity? Is he saying he is not the president for foreign policy with the African continent, Asia and the Middle East, Central or South America or the Pacific Islands because he doesn’t have a heritage in common with Africans, Asians, etc?!
Thanks Mr. Romney for telling us you only support Anglo-Saxons/Caucasians. You need to go to England and become Prime Minister with people you can identify with and support!!
The US, a country of diversity, needs a President for all Americans and the World! Obama is that president. Obama 2012!

Jahhnna – I was born in the UK, they adore Obama (the queen likes him and Mrs Obama) London prides its self as the most racially diverse city in the world.
And this comes after the debacle of protests in the British parliament about Romney going to London to fund raise with the bankers who caused this new biggest scandal (con job) on the people of the world.
Could Romney be brain dead for he appears to be every time he is confronted by the foreign press.
We brits thank Obama’s grandad for fighting alongside Patton & the UK to free the concentration camps, whatever have the Romney’s done other than cheat ordinary people to make money and stash it overseas.

One point I’d disagree with.
I think Romney is a true believer, but since he’s a world-class liar (part of his religion), it’s hard to tell.
What he really believes will come out after the election IMO – win or loose.

Although Romney and his campaign advisers think they’re clever, all they are doing is revealing how crass and divisive he is, and how much he is willing to lie and break any rule to become POTUS. I believe this is why a recent poll shows PBO 6 points ahead of Romney–more Americans aren’t liking the things they’re seeing in Romney. When Romney went to the VFW, he couldn’t wait to attack the president. He even went as far as calling the president “corrupt.” When PBO went, he made no attacks on Romney. He focused on sharing his vision of America with the attendees and pledged his support to veterans issues. When Romney went to speak to the NAACP, he went to flex his muscles and to “put the blacks in their place.” When VP Biden spoke to the NAACP, he spoke in a way that inspired them and avoided making any inflammatory statements about Romney or the attendees. Romney possesses a privileged mindset that believes he should be able to say/do anything he wants to say/do and receive zero push back. This may work in corporate boardrooms, but it doesn’t work when one is running for POTUS in a nation composed of diverse groups of people who don’t all think the same way. He doubled down on not releasing more of his tax returns in his interview with Brian Williams tonight. It seems as if he thinks that he’s doing the honorable thing by not responding to requests from his colleagues, the American people, and the Obama campaign to release more of his tax returns and financial documents. If he’s seen the latest poll on the issue, he’s consciously ignoring it. Evidently, he doesn’t want to believe that @56% of the American people want to see more of his inancial documents. As times passes, Romney continues to dig his political grave deeper and deeper.

Romney is about to find out the hard way, that the rest of the world doesn’t have as many overt racist KKK types as we do here. And of the ones that he will find, only half of them are white.
Americans are disliked almost globally, and people like Mitt Romney and his voting base are the reason why.
This looks like it’s almost the end of his campaign. If his team doesn’t keep their mouths shut, he might not get through the convention.

Everyone must remember Romney catered up to the Toxic Egotistical Activist(TEA) party and still has a bunch to do to actually get their vote. Their vote could easily go to Romney’s other nemesis, Ron Paul. Ron will be holding his own pre-convention in Tampa Bay prior to the real convention. Paul is considered the grand Poobah of the Libertarian fringe, which has morphed into the hard-lined, confrontational Treacherous Egotistical Anarchist(TEA) party. But Romney is really scared of the Terroristic Economic Antagonist(TEA) party because they have their own agenda, and it ain’t his! TEA party extremes use the (R) instead of the (T) when running for office. It is my contention that TEA-Republican’s are astounded that Obama has accomplished so much in such a short period of time. The truth is that Obama repeatedly cut taxes for such families, first through a tax credit in effect for 2009 and 2010, and beginning in 2011, through a reduction in the payroll tax that is worth $1,000 this year to workers earning $50,000 a year. And while it’s true that some tax increases contained in the new health care law would fall on individuals, they have mostly not taken effect yet and are small compared with the cuts the president already enacted.

What makes the Romney camp think we British want anything to do with a dishonest venture capitalist whose ‘religion’ when it’s not bizarre is given to prejudice and bigotry. I’m bound to say I struggle to understand how someone who seems to have swallowed the cult of mormonism whole has the capacity to run a country and don’t get me on his wife who seems to have nothing welsh about her – a wino indeed.

I couldn’t have laughed louder and longer when I saw the news about Romney in London. He speaks with his foot constantly in his mouth. I’m sure that he didn’t expect this reaction to his false statements that he makes 24/7 without having any proof. To Romney: You are getting exactly what you deserve for your attacks on President Obama on foreign soil. You are so DONE. What an embarassment you are to us, the American people.
