Romney Plans to Stab Conservatives in the Heart by Shifting Left
Conservatives were so excited by Mitt Romney’s manic attack performance during the first presidential debate that they missed the fact that Romney changed all of his positions except kill PBS. Indeed, Romney fashioned himself into an Obama-lite during the first debate, abandoning his previous positions in order to appeal to more voters.
Conservatives didn’t seem to mind, which might indicate that they are more on board with attacking Obama than any real ideology. However, that’s a slippery slope for the Republican presidential candidate to navigate, because if conservatives realize what he actually said, they might not appreciate being played by Romney.
Conservatives are going to be played, like it or not, because the Romney camp interpreted their blood lust as tacit approval to move further to the left.
Romney campaign officials told Politico that while their electoral map still looks terrible, “conservatives were so down on the campaign before the debate — and so rapturous during it — that they will give him a lot of maneuvering room to talk in more moderate ways.”
I suspect the Romney campaign has underestimated the Right if they think that the Right was giving them the okay to moderate his positions. It’s more likely that conservatives were distracted by the rapture of Romney attacking Obama and ignored the substance of how he accomplished it.
Just today, Romney, who on the trail promised conservatives he was for the Personhood Amendment that would make even some forms of birth control illegal, told the Des Moines Register that he had no abortion legislation planned. Romney said, “There’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda.” That’s quite a switch from even the Republican Party platform, which seeks to make abortion illegal even when the life of the mother is at risk.
In February of this year, Romney was telling conservatives another story in Toledo Ohio. He said, “I’m in favor of a pro-life policy. The legislation that relates to abortion which is something that is going to have to be approved by the Supreme Court and the key decisions I’ll take as the president will be number one, stopping funding for Planned Parenthood, re-instituting the Mexico City policy which says our funds can’t be used for abortion around the world and appointing justices to the Supreme Court that will follow the Constitution, hopefully reverse Roe v. Wade, and return to the states, the authority for making law with regards to abortion.”
We mentioned this during the debate freakout, but it’s worth repeating. Romney “won” by losing himself and all of his previous positions except for the kill PBS stance. Will conservatives allow him to move so far to the left that he is the Obama lite he presented at the debate? That would suggest that conservatives don’t really disagree with Obama’s policies at all, and don’t really have an ideology other than hating Obama.
Perhaps conservatives are clinging to the fact that while Romney changed his rhetoric, he hasn’t officially changed any of his policies to match the rhetoric. But that’s a lot of faith to put in someone who is best known for flip flopping, and someone whom the base has never trusted fully. It’s not as if Romney has specified any of his plans in detail, so anyone taking him at his constantly evolving word is risking being had.
Conservatives love seeing anyone beat down Obama, even if it’s not politically wise or even a winning strategy. They’ve been so programmed to hate this President that they can’t bear anything but a Palin or Romney attack dog mode from their leader.
As the polls are already showing, Romney’s debate performance didn’t win him approval or likability or trust. It also didn’t win him the image of someone tough enough to be President. What the Right sees as tough, the rest of the nation sees as manic hysteria and/or bullying. As adults know, bullies aren’t really strong; they can dish it out, but they can’t take it. Belligerence doesn’t pass for strength in the middle as it does on the Right.
We’ll have a chance to see how Romney takes it from the public during the town hall debate, a challenging format for Romney who can’t stand to be questioned by anyone, including children.
The Romney etch-a-sketch move to the middle has commenced. We await the moment when the Right realizes they’ve been stabbed in the heart, again. If they don’t care, then they are lending further proof to the suspicion that their four year rager was never about policy or ideas, and certainly wasn’t about taxes or abortion.

You hit the nail on the head. Conservatives hate Obama so much, that Mitt Romney could come out and say that he will raise taxes on the rich, enact cap and trade in all 50 states, and keep Obamacare in place. They will still vote for him. They just don’t want Obama. Haven’t you seen all the “Anybody but Obama” bumper stickers?
I’m not 100% happy with Obama (or any candidate from either of the 2 main parties). But just because you aren’t happy with what you have now, it doesn’t mean the other guy is any better.

These people are so wrapped up in RACISM and HATE they can’t seem to think for themselves. Fox news should be proud they just keep it going. If they start a Civil War you won’t find them except in a cave somewhere baiting people. This is the RACISM and HATE platform. Oh ya, LIES, LIES, LIES. I lived in MA when Romney was Governor and guess what he did better than anyone else, you guessed it, LIE,LIE,LIE. And you can take that to the bank, but hurry before he gets it !

Apparently Mitt’s wife was not happy with Romney campaign people, so she and their son are now calling the shots! Each time he gets a new handler his positions change as he is actually not a person at all, just a robot that keeps getting re-programmed.

The teaparty were on their prayer rugs and missed what Romney said. Its long past the time they had any values you could count on.
The conservatives never had values and would vote for a daisy as long as it was white.
In one fell swoop Romney sold himself and the conservatives down the river. But there is a bright spot in this for romney. Just like I hope Obama was giving Romney rope in the debate, Romney is counting on conservatives voting for him regardless. They probably will. If they had valuwes to start with, they would turn to Ron Paul who would screw them just as quickly as Romney did

Yeah, Romney makes that statement about abortion and then a spokesperson comes along with a clarification a couple of hours later – if it even took that long.
This is his campaign strategy – say one thing to the wider audience and let the spokesperson come along later to “clarify” and clean up the mess.
If there is anyone out there – on the left, on the right, or in the middle – who thinks Romney is telling THEM the truth, they’re sadly mistaken. He is not telling anyone the truth and quite frankly, he has lied so damn much, I doubt even HE knows what his true positions are.
Everyone needs to vote and get your family and friends to vote.

I may not like or agree with EVERYTHING Obama does, but he sure is a hell of a lot better as a President than ROBME would even dream of being. Not to mention, ROBME only wants the title because he thinks he’s entitled to it. Rove, Norquist and the Koch Brothers will be doing the ruling if ROBME wins! OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!

We often refer to Romney as a robot. I’m thinking he’s more a puppet with so many puppet masters his strings will eventually become so inexorably snarled he will fall in a heap. This may be what makes Ann Romney feel worried about his mental health.

These latest moves of Romoney Desperation are not intended for him to lose Repugnican Support: It is intended to draw away Obama supporters. It is targeting people who he had originally alienated, hoping to draw them over to “his side” – In NO WAY can he be believed. He has vowed to end all social security, reverse roe-vs-wade, and do away with Medicare Completely. Anyone thinking, oh, well it’s OK Mitt is not going to do that stuff – Wrong. His whole platform was based on all of the so called entitlements he would END. And his platform on Ecomomy is just more “Trickle Down”- Which has never worked.

Agreed, he is attempting to pull voters away from the President and is willing to take hits from the right–he really thinks he’s the worlds best sales man–HA!
The reality it, voters with incomes of 75K and under are not swayed by his new pitch. They aren’t moving an inch and my gut tells me, there is more than “47%” of workers within that income bracket.
(Sorry I did not provide the link–it included two income families–bottom line nurses, firemen, mid-managers, etc aren’t buying his snake oil…they know the pain of one of them loosing a job and will if he’s elected).

Okay, the author of this story is getting this wrong. You see, the fascist corporate plutarchy built the Massachusetts Moderate Mittbot and sent it out for the first debate to make it look like Mittens is going back to the center to get back the defecting moderates and Independents. There’s an inferred “wink” with this move to the center. The Cons and Baggers know very well that its performance was yet another pack of lies to fool people into voting for him. If Mittens and Munster are elected, they’ll return to the Con and Bagger principles. Don’t be fooled…Mittens’ campaign should have done this months ago. It’s too late now. And, as for future debates, none are going to have the same rules as the first debate, so the “Gish Gallop” that the Mittbot employed won’t work.

Notice how Pubs love the people who spew nothing but Hatred.
Bill O’Reilly let it slip-out during his debate with Jon Stewart when he said:
“You can make a lot of money being an assassin,” he said, referring to people who don’t believe the outrageous things they say, but say them anyway to make good television and get paid. “If you’re in and you’re a hater — radio, cable, in print, whatever — you get paid.”

Of course, that GOP is programmed to hate Obama is what enables the Dimocrats to like someone who has continued or expanded on Bush’s worst policies, and let a Health Insurance written bill become a rallying cry.
There is no way to honestly run a positive campaign for Fascism, so the DNC has to have a boogeyman too.
(If you take umbrage with my use of the word Fascism, please give me a more accurate word for an administration that has merged the Corporation and the State, as Obama’s appointments give evidence to, as well as his PR work for BP, etc, that is also characterized by the complete abandonment of any pretence at the Rule of Law, as extrajudicial kill lists and indefinite detention without presenting charges makes clear.
If you can give me a word that more accurately reflects Obama’s policies as related here than Fascism, please, let me know and I will gladly substitute it in the future.)
Liberal, Progressive, or democratic (small d) are obvious lies when claimed against the record of his actual accomplishments as opposed to his obviously meaningless rhetoric.
At least, if you are going to support one brand of Fascism over another, while perpetuating the myth that anything but your willing complicity in fascism is behind there not being any other “viable option” when 2 other candidates are on the ballot in enough states to win, if it were not for the complicit support of fascists in pretending nothing but Fascism is “realistic”.
Are we the land of the jailed and the home of the cowards, or will we grow a few strands of moral fiber and say no to Fascism?

John,
If you’d like to bring others around to your way of thinking, you might want to develop better arguments – you might also want to leave out the insults. “Dimocrats” – really?
By the way, Mitt Romney thanks you for your vote.

KING OF ABORTION DICTATOR
President Obama would have destroyed Mitt had he used these two
Romney said: “My first act will be to defund Planned Parenthood.”
“My first act will be to repeal Obamacare.”
Planned Parenthood prevents more abortions than any unit in America.
Free contraceptives to poorest of poor women.
Has Mitt never studied the Bible?
The word most used by Jesus is POOR.
PP provides preventative health care to poorest of the poor women.
Mitt does not understand our legal system. You cannot just repeal Laws on whims.
Only Dictators do that.

THE BIG THREE
Republicans 1980-2009 controlled Presidency for 20 years—Senate for 18 years-House for 12 years-6 years of total control
In those 20 years our budget went to 3500 Billion from 600 Billion under Carter.
Of course Clinton added a little of that 2900 increase.
The Big 3 took Carter under 1000B debt to 10,000.
Took Clinton surplus to a 1400B deficit. First time to exceed 1000B.
Took Carter record job creation of 218,000 per month down to 99,000 per month.
“Initiated” our involvement in 10 foreign conflicts. In 12, Carter + Clinton=0
The Big 3 had recession in all or part of 7 years.
The Big 3 destroyed our wonderful Savings and Loan Industry which was instrumental in the housing boom for Middle Class 1945-1980.
The Big Three smashed our Housing Industry. !945-1980, it took 2.5 years of average income to buy an average size home to 5.4 years.
The Big Three allowed Wall Street to Outsource entire Industries and in past decade close 58,000 plants. I can show plenty in my home town.
The Big Three alienated 1500 Million Muslims by invading their destitute unarmed Iraq
of only 15 million adults. What had those 15M done to us?
The Big Three invaded a Muslim nation of 50% illiterates, third poorest nation and no arms.
The Big Three allowed Wall Street Gamblers to turn into Casino Derivative Of America.
The Big Three allowed Inequality of Wealth And making us #4 in OECD nations.
The Big Three penchant for tax cuts for the richest made us #3 As least taxed in OECD just below Chile and Mexico.
The Big Three allowed us to become #2 in OECD in least tax on corporations
Want a BIG FOUR then elect Mitt Romney.
Want to cut the minimum wage?
Want to change Social Security and Medicare?
Want to waste more on our overloaded wasteful killing machine empire?
Want to invade Iran?
