Romney Completely Implodes and Claims Americans Like to Pay Taxes
Mitt Romney went on Fox News and managed to make his situation worse by refusing to release his tax returns, yet claiming that Americans would like to pay taxes.
Here is the video from Fox News:
Watch the latest video at video.foxnews.comNeil Cavuto pushed the Fox News lie that 47% of Americans don’t pay taxes, and asked Romney if the percentage should be higher. Mitt responded by telling America that he thinks they would enjoy paying taxes.
Romney said, “Well, first of all of course you’re right. There are a number of retirees, members of the military and so forth who aren’t paying taxes, and that’s as it should be, but I do believe we should have enough jobs and enough take-home pay such as people have the privilege of higher incomes that allow allow them to be to pay taxes. I think people would like to be paying taxes.”
Mitt Romney is the nominee of a party that has refused to raise one penny of taxes, and yet he goes on Fox News and claims that the American people would like to pay taxes. Romney apparently lives in some sort of abstract unreality, because the truth is that no matter no matter how much people earn, they aren’t going to like to pay taxes.
I guess if you are Mitt Romney and can hide most of your taxable income offshore, paying taxes is no big deal. Mitt Romney, who won’t release his tax returns, is probably the last person in the world who should be talking about how much Americans like to pay taxes. Until Romney releases his tax returns, he has zero credibility on the issue. We don’t even know how much Romney paid in taxes, yet he is telling everyone else that they should enjoy it.
Romney’s answer is nothing short of brand new disaster for his candidacy. Now, Republicans are left wondering exactly what did he mean when he said that Americans enjoy paying taxes? The GOP’s mantra is that taxes are too high period, but in a desperate attempt to save his campaign, Romney just threw that out the window.
The worst part about his comments was that this is his campaign’s scripted strategy to handle these videos. Romney wasn’t speaking off the cuff. This is how his campaign is trying to push back.
It doesn’t get more desperate than relying on an edited Obama video from 1998 via Drudge to bail out your sinking ship of a campaign. Romney strategy is to scream that Obama is a big government socialist while telling America how much they will like paying taxes during his presidency doesn’t sound like a winner to me.
Romney still thinks almost half the country are deadbeats. He confirmed that the video was accurate, and now he is screwing with the Republican Party’s anti-tax ideology.

Mitt Romney is a lap dog for the rich, and you can bet when he says “Americans would like to pay taxes” what he really means is “non-rich Americans.” He wants the poor, and struggling to pay money they don’t have to continue giving tax breaks to the rich who don’t need them. What the Republicans want is the complete destruction/subjugation of the non-rich to give everything to the rich (wealth, power, rights, etc). Unemployment will do nothing but increase wherever Republicans have power. I made a video about unemployment, and how we can fix it. It’s at my YouTube channel Zarrakan, and here’s the name:

As someone who lives in a Right-To-Work state (another law knowingly misnamed and misleading) PEOPLE need to KNOW that Romney INSISTS he will make it a FEDERAL LAW.
Right-To-Work laws mean your employer can FIRE YOU FOR NO REASON (does not like your shoes that day) and can PAY YOU THE LOWEST WAGES POSSIBLE and you have ZERO RECOURSE.
Think about it. Vote Obama/Biden 2012 and RID ALL STATES of “Right-To-Be-Terminated-For-No-Reason-While-Working-For-Lowest-Wages-Possible.

What he thinks, I believe, is that poor people would like to pay taxes in order to support “the makers”. Well, I know that it’s desirable to have enough income to pay taxes on without being deprived of the means of life, and to be able to earn this income without having to harm one’s fellow human beings and other living things. Of course, it is nice, along with that, to know that those who have been unusually blessed by society are grateful enough to give back to it. Nonetheless, if only the first condition were fulfilled, we could probably grin and bear a few rich zoo animals, so long as they didn’t demand to eat the rest of us. That’s not how it is, though.

Frankly, I don’t mind paying taxes, because I want streetlights and trash pickup, recycling at my driveway. snow plowed off my street in the winter, and leaves picked up instead of everyone burning them and fouling the air for weeks in autumn. I like having teachers who are well paid for the hard work they do, a great library that is open in the evenings and weekends, and has programs for all ages. I like all the good things tax dollars can do. I hate that Romney probably pays NO taxes and then hides a good deal more on top of that. I hate that OIL companies, who are making billions, are still being subsidized so we cannot support alternative energy growth. I hate that my tax dollars support war. I hate that the GOP has lost the ability to even come close to telling the truth about anything.

The tea party must be slavering over this one. Loves to pay taxes? But, as the tea thugs have been co-opted by the GOP and the Fundies, they will swallow and go along with it

If he really feels like it is an honor to pay taxes why is he looking for ways to pay less in fact to pay none??? this man is a hypocrite and a pathological liar thats all there is to it~to him its patriotic to find ways to keep himself and his uber rich buddies from paying any tax~

Sounds like Willard is advocating for a VERY large increase in minimum wage! He wants people to ‘have enough take-home pay such as people have the privilege of higher incomes that allow them to pay taxes’.

There is nothing wrong in anything that Obama said on that video !
He said he believes in “some redistribution”.
This statement is true for 95% of Americans…..people who depend on free public education, libraries, parks, fire fighting, police…..this is all “redistribution”, and only the vicious anarcho-capitalist right is opposed to it.
Drudge is a slime from Slime Street.

Romney already released a couple of his tax returns- what he is legally required to do. Not sure why the article’s author would lie like that. He doesn’t have to release everything from the last 20 years. That’s just silly. At least Romney didn’t have his college records sealed. What does Obama have to hide?

He has only released one years partial taxes. Not 2
The fact is, he looks far worse NOT releasing them

Obama didn’t have his college records sealed. It’s standard procedure – everyone’s college records are sealed. Check it out, and quit sucking up every drop of sewage spilled from the mouths of Beck/Hannity/Limbaugh/Savage/every talking head at Fakes News.

The one year that Romney provided a tax return for was, guess what, incomplete. He left out the page for foreign investments. And his 2011 return isn’t complete yet? Hmmm. We filed ours last February.

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths this Troll goes to to illustrate how much he hates Americans. I can’t believe the GOP could ever outdo the stupidity they exhibited in the 2008 campaign. Is it actually possible for them to make Sarah Palin seem smarter than this year’s group of stooges? They have to have a secret self-destruct button hidden on them somewhere.

I’m certainly no fan of Mitt Romney, but I think those of us who have been out for blood are lowering ourselves to Republican’s level. It seems pretty obvious that what he meant by these comments was that poor people would like to be making enough money to be in an actual tax bracket. Was he sincere? Not likely. Was this response scripted? Of course. Did we get an honest taste of the real Mitt Romney with his 47% comments? You bet we did. But he’s already dug his own grave. We don’t need to lower ourselves to Republican tactics like taking phrases out of context and confusing voters about Romney’s real message. His real message is bad all on it’s own, and it’s coming through loud and clear.

Thinking the same way myself – and I agree with your interpretation – that’s the way I took it, and I think that’s how he meant it. I think there’s enough, MORE than enough ammo laying around within reach without digging through bs to find a hidden nugget…

Romney was, and has always been, his own adversary. Every wound inflicted has come from himself. Every word that has ruined him, has came from his own mouth. Every unexpected assault came from him letting down his guard… He has proven that he is everything a President should not be. He can’t even trust himself.

No, American’s do not like paying taxes, but we do because the tax code forces it. Everyone in America is dependent on the government! Every American receives something from the federal government whether it is retirement, health care benefits or tax write-offs. You, Mr. Romney use off-shore tax havens to escape taxation and from tithing to his church. Tax Lawyers and accountants are well aware of the deductions, exclusions, limitations, deductions, depreciation’s, amortization’s and other ways to exclude or expense costs against profits above and below taxable income. The every day layperson does not have the ability or validity to use these methodologies for lowering taxable value amounts. Several thousand of the high income households and millions of large to mid-sized corporations use this same methodology. The tax code must be fixed for the average taxpayer and limit all the deductions, exclusions, limitations, deductions, depreciation’s, amortization’s and other ways business profit! There should be no screaming about individuals not paying taxes, as all taxes paid by corporations and business in general is passed onto the consumer. Look at the picture behind Romney! There’s a sea of white folk. Why aren’t there more people of color in the crowds? Be very careful when voting as many TEA party are using the (R) instead of the (T).

Prove it by coming out and blasting Bachmann for wanting to abolish minimum wage, then back the democrats bill to raise the federal minimum to $9.80 an hour without fingers or toes crossed, then you might get a few more votes, but I highly doubt it, as America has seen your tendency to lie and flip-flop on any given issue.

Americans love paying taxes. Bishop Romney should try it some time. He might enjoy it as much as he does dodging taxes.
