What Would A Romney Presidency be Like? It’s Anyone’s Guess
By: Hrafnkell HaraldssonMay. 21st, 2012more from Hrafnkell Haraldsson

You have to give him points for sheer moxie (if not character) but how can you possibly know which Mitt you are going to end up with? Who would vote for the guy whose policy statements have been all over the place, from left to right to middle and then back again depending seemingly on the needs of the moment?
But that’s precisely the question the Romney campaign is asking in a new spot, presenting a fantasy-version of reality since the real thing is not Romney-friendly.
In Jacksonville on Thursday Romney introduced the spot to reporters by saying,
“I certainly hope that you’ll get a chance to see our first ad that will come up in a couple of days. It will be a positive ad about the things that I will do if I am president,” Romney said, apparently sharing with us disbelief that he would want to admit what he’s planning (at least at the moment the ads were made) to do on his first day as president.
Watch the ad, which began airing in Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia starting this past Friday:
Day One:
President Romney immediately approves the Keystone pipeline, creating thousands of jobs that Obama blocked. President Romney introduces tax cuts and reforms that reward job creators, not punish them. President Romney issues order to begin replacing Obamacare with commonsense healthcare reform. That’s what a Romney presidency will be like.
(Romney’s campaign thought spending $1.2 million to air this collection of lies through Tuesday in those battleground states was a worthy investment. For those Romney plans to target with Arizona-style Nuremberg laws (or doesn’t depending on the day of the week) there is a Spanish-language version.)
It is no surprise that Romney’s broken moral compass leads him to embrace the Keystone XL boondoggle. We’ve shown here the level of corruption (here , here and here) surrounding the proposed pipeline; we have shown how the Keystone XL pipeline will not actually create all those “thousands” of jobs Romney talks about and that in fact John Boehner has admitted this; and that in fact the GOP support was essentially purchased by pipeline backers; and we have shown how Boehner and his fellow Republicans continue to sell the myth of the Keystone XL as some sort of prosperity panacea when in fact it is no more than a prosperity panacea for oil companies and their bought members of congress – not for those seeking new jobs.
The White House itself answered Mitt’s second promise, of job-creating reforms:
“Romney said he would use his business experience to cut spending and debt- but both increased under his watch and he left Massachusetts with the largest per-capita debt in the nation,” Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith said in a statement. “Romney promised he’d use this same private sector experience to create jobs, but Massachusetts ranked 47th out of 50th in job creation and lagged the nation in almost all key economic indicators. And the one thing he did accomplish-implementing health care reform that was a model for federal reform-is now something he would undo on day one of his presidency.”
You shudder to think what “commonsense healthcare reform” might mean to Romney at this point. It must be remembered that the much maligned Obamacare he promises to replace is essentially his own healthcare system.
Remember when he said back in 2008 while campaigning for president that he “was able to put in place a plan that helped get health insurance premiums down, and gets all our citizens insured. If we can do that nationally, we help…the entire nation.”
Then in with the Tea Party hating on his healthcare plan he said on July 4, 2011, “One thing I’d never do would be to impose a state’s plan on the entire nation, that makes no sense. I’ll repeal Obamacare.”
Skip forward to October 18, 2011, when he insisted that “At the time I crated the plan in the last campaign I was asked is this something you would have the whole nation do, and I said no. This is something that was crafted for Masschusetts. It would be wrong to adopt this as a nation.”
Watch Romney flip-flop on WhichMitt.com:
I guess the logic at work here is if you love a lie, stick to it (at least until it becomes inconvenient) and Romney thinks his day one promises are a pretty good lie: just pretend none of his claims have been refuted or even addressed and press on. It is the equivalent of being caught with your hand in the cookie jar and a cookie in your mouth and insisting to your mom over and over again, “I didn’t steal any cookies from the cookie jar!” It seems to be working for Romney, at least with his fellow dissonance-challenged conservatives.
It is America’s independents and moderates who must wake up to the fact that you can’t trust Mitt on what he says he will do on Day One, Day Two or any day since he changes his story every day. Republicans love to accuse Obama of lying about what he would do when he became president (when in fact he kept many of his promises and still others would have kept if not for Republican – and sometimes Democrat – obstructionism) but Romney hasn’t even kept his stories and promises straight through the election cycle and Americans need to recognize the risk they take by casting a vote for the Apex Flip-Flopper, Mitt Romney.

What would he do? Grover Norquist has already said that the President he backs will do what Grover Norquist -through his pledge-puppets- tells him to do. He will do what the PNAC cadre tells him to do. What we can expect is a program of pure and perpetual privatization and pauperization at home and pure and perpetual war abroad…at least, until the rest of the world, for their own self-protection, are obliged to gang up on us and get us.

Also, too, remember that Mormons take directions from the Mormon bishops who have been waiting for many years to get someone into the WH.

Has Romney laid out any plans for “Common sense” healthcare? No
That’s because their arnt any and repealing it would add over a trillion to the deficit. But why should that matter? Romneys economic plan will add 10 trillion to the debt anyways
Mittens, wont it be wonderful that you give the “Job Creators” more money and the middle class and poior cant buy the products in the fashion needed to move the economy? Im glad you are making the wealthy more wealthy cause soon enough that money will be worthless

In the last few weeks, it has become very clear to everyone, GOP and Dems alike, that this election is a toss up. Obama is not a “sure thing” for 2012, and this is based on a sour economy, with little real growth.
Obama has not lead this country in a very sure handed way and our weak economy is proof of that. He had a majority the first two years of his presidency but did little to lead us. The Health Act he got passed was an incredible achievement, but a better policy would have been to get the country economically back on track. In the past several months he has finally got the message that the GOP will NEVER do anything to help him lead this country out of the economic stalemate it is in. What the GOP will do is to keep the economy right where it is, thus this 50/50 toss up to our current election.
I have been waiting for both candidates to show us all some sort of plan to get us out of this economic bottom we are currently in, and, frankly, have seen nothing from either party to give me any faith that we will get on our collective feet economically again.
This past week we have seen a warning sign by JP Morgan that things we thought were taken care of in 2008 with Dobbs Frank are still there, and that what happened in 2008 can and most likely will repeat itself with devastating results. (Paul Krugman’s column in the NY Times today really shows how this is happening right now. www.nytimes.com/2012/05/2...)
What I want to see is some sort of plan from the Obama camp that gives me faith that something good will take place if the president gets back his majority in both houses. I need to see some backbone and leadership from him, the kind of leadership I would have seen if Hillary had been elected. I need concrete solutions to the very real dangers facing this nation economically.
I understand the debt of our country is exceeding our GNP, but historically, by infusing our economy with government stimulus and money, things can turn around. What I have seen is a GOP that will obstruct these types of movements, and I want to know how, if Obama is elected president, he will be able to circumvent or prevent the GOP from further destroying our economy with its destructive political policies and obstructionism.
I always close by advising everyone who reads these bloggs and comments to VOTE. I just want some answers as to what I am voting for.
I understand how dangerous and destructive a Rommey presidency will be, but I am not sure an Obama presidency, as of today, would be much different, and that is a scary statement for a liberal like me to make.

I thionk part of Obama’s appearance of leadership is due to the despicable efforts of the House to make him look bad. There is only so much a president can do with no support

I agree, Shiva. The GOP-controlled House, which controls the purse-strings, has done all in its power to slow economic recovery and has done nothing to create a single job.

I agree with you on Dobb Frank, but there still needs to be some leadership from the Obama administration. He started the Health Care legislation, but then did very little to support it or push it through. There were no “back room” meetings with some of his democratic representatives to push through the legislation, and there was no real effort to stop the rape of Dobb Frank by the GOP and some of the more stupid Dems who are GOPer’s in Dems disguise.
I will vote for Obama, but I want some guts and chutzpah with the GOP and tell them to stick it where the moon don’t shine.
There has to be a point where President Obama has to understand that NOTHING he tries to do to help this country will be passed as long as the GOP and the tea bitches are in power. He has to go out there and make sure he has people he can trust to carry out his agenda, and get them elected. If that happens, maybe, just maybe we can climb out of this pit of pig manure the GOP keeps shoveling down our collective throats.

Have you been living on the planet mars? Obviously you have not been living on the planet Earth. How about you sit down at your trusty keyboard and do a google search on “republican obstructionism”. Then come back and talk about who has not been doing the job “in a sure way”.

Romney presidency… Mormons in every place he can shove them, lots of cash to help them get elected at all levels, destroy the judiciary with Mormon judges, in essence the White Horse Prophecy by Joseph Smith. A Mormon man comes to the rescue of the USA as the place starts to burn to the ground. “We” are so grateful we give him the keys to the nation. End result… a Mormon theocracy. Period, game over. All the rest is smoke an mirrors, that’s why he can lie with utter gall… he has his cult’s blessing so he can take over the White House for them. Make no mistake, he will do whatever THEY tell him to do, even if it is against what is good for the country.

what’s funny is that you think that the current administration doesn’t take orders from lobbyists regardless of whether or not those orders are good for the country.

Rick
You can say anything you want but there are these things called facts. Maybe you can explain why democrats by and large push for regulation while republicans do the opposite. That’s a fact so blaming both equally isn’t honest.

I get so sick and tired of the Republican/conservative-begun “Democrats and Republicans are the same” meme. It’s meant to dishearten Democrats so they won’t vote or support their party.
Get off it, please. It’s bullshit.

I think it’s been clear for some time that the GOP have no real ideas for how to help this country, their entire platform since 2008 has been to stymie any growth and back-stall any progress made for this country in the hopes of pushing their own agenda forward.
While I consider myself a conservative I do not back this sort of behavior and thus I just don’t see rewarding the GOP or any of their chosen leaders with any position in government.People may remark about Obama and the Democrats but I’ll say this, any action moving forward is still action

We know Romney said he would do away with planned parenthood on day one, he would also approve the Keystone pipeline on day one, how many more townships will be poisoned by that and the Koch’s pollution. He would gut the wall street reform so the banks could do anything they wanted, he would also adopt the Ryan budget which would make medicare a voucher program, good luck to retirees shopping for an insurance plan, all retirees have pre existing conditions. Also David, Obama did not have a majority in the senate for two years, it was mostly 58 – Not enough.

Another this to remember is that the Ryan plan will give seniors $6,000 to pay for their medical care.
Most thinking people know that this is just stupid.
My medication and health insurance in 2011 was $11,659.00. Medication co-pay is between $450.00 – $550.00 per month. I’ll let those who have no problem with the killing of seniors as Rand and Mittens will do calculations.
P.S. I am 71 years old and receive no outside assistance. Why? Because my income is about $40.00 over the limit to receive help.

Sammy, the sad thing is that most people do not pay attention to what is in the republican plan. I am still amazed by the number of people who still say they do not know what is in Obama’s health care plan, this tells me they have not tried to find out.
Americans often vote against their own best interests and sadly they find out when it is too late. They will be in a world of trouble if the republicans get Romney elected, they will not know what hit them. Plain & simple – Obama for the people, Romney for the rich corporations.

If the GOP would get out of the way of ending these meaningless wars, we’d have plenty of money for jobs, healthcare, Social Security, and whatever else our populations needs. But heaven forbid that the defense contractors lose out on profits! See “Has The GOP Ever Met A War It Didn’t Like?” at thepoliticali.blogspot.co...

Wow this guy talks out of both sides of his mouth and arse!!
Please, we the people. One man cant do it alone. Especially if there are a thousand railing against everything he is trying to do. Forget the fat cat politicians that only worry about themselves and the other fat cats that enjoy stepping on little people. The same heartless beings that outsourced millions of jobs and dare say to the unemployed its your fault. Meanwhile people lucky enough to have work havent seen a substantial raise in almost a decade while we have watched the cost of everything double sometimes triple in some cases. I.e. gas, food, services, and utilities.
Get the guy some help. Vote for the least corrupt politicians on your ballots (i know i couldnt keep a straight face as i typed that last line either).

When I began playing the video, I noticed a fruit fly hovering around my lamp…and after the Keystone XL pipeline and jobs bit, it fell dead. I’m not kidding, it fell out of the air, dead on my desk.
I think it died from the immediate release of so much noxious fumes emitted by Romney’s BS. If Romney gets elected however, I’m afraid that fly will be the lucky one.
