Romney in Shambles as Britain Proclaims Him Worse than Sarah Palin
more from Jason Easley and Sarah Jones
The British reaction to Mitt Romney has gone from openness, to skepticism, to mocking, to concluding that Mitt Romney is worse than Sarah Palin.
Daily Mail Political Editor James Chapman has been providing the world a play by play of Romney’s British implosion via his Twitter account. Romney started things off by criticizing London’s preparedness for the Olympics. He then forgot the name of British Labour Leader Ed Miliband, and then he admitted that he had been given a secret briefing by MI6. This led the British to ask aloud if they have another George W. Bush on their hands, “Romney blunders again by revealing he’s had (supposedly) top secret briefing by John Sawers, MI6 boss. Do we have a new Dubya on our hands?”
After his visit to Whitehall, Chapman offered two of the kinder reviews of Mitt Romney, “Serious dismay in Whitehall at Romney debut. ‘Worse than Sarah Palin.’ ‘Total car crash’. Two of the kinder verdicts.” Chapman also reported another verdict from British meet and greet with Mitt, “Another verdict from one Romney meeting: ‘Apparently devoid of charm, warmth, humour or sincerity’”
Getting compared to Sarah Palin is one thing, but being called worse than Palin is an indication of the epic display of fail that Romney is putting on in London.
If you thought things couldn’t possibly get worse for Mitt Romney, you were wrong. How does one top being unfavorably compared to Sarah Palin? If you’re Mitt Romney, you get mocked in front of 60,000 people.
The Telegraph is reporting that London Mayor Boris Johnson mocked Romney’s readiness comment, “Quite a moment from the Mayor of London Boris Johnson. Shortly after Rix had lit the flame he really went for it in Hyde Park. He referenced Mitt Romney’s ‘London isn’t ready’ quip and shot back in style. “Are we ready?” he called and the crowd went wild. There may even have been a hint of the Obama-friendly “Yes we can!” in there – he may have jumped into a winning scenario but I’ve not heard a politician get that reaction before.”
For their part, the White House rubbed salt in Romney’s wounds by pointing out that President Obama has full confidence in Britain’s ability to provide a secure Olympics. White House Spokesman Jay Carney said, “In keeping with our special relationship, the president also made it clear that he has the utmost confidence in our close friend and ally, the United Kingdom, as they finalize preparations to host the London Olympics.”
That special relationship is being put in jeopardy by a Republican nominee who can’t stop insulting the British people while making an ass out of himself. Instead of proving that he is Commander in Chief material, Romney is justifying John McCain’s 2008 selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate. To think, that the Romney campaign actually agreed to foreign policy being the the topic of the third presidential debate.
The British opinion of Romney has gone from he might be another Bush to oh my God, he makes Sarah Palin seem prepared.
Not since World War II has London seen a bombing as thorough as Mitt Romney’s.

Ahh, don’t be fooled by Ann. She might be slightly less offensive because she’s female, and not the candidate, but her “you people” comment put her squarely in Mittens’ camp on the no-sincerity/charm/warmth column.
This type of attitude is exactly why Mitt made the STUPID comment criticizing their Olympics in the first place. His arrogance, his belief he’s above everyone else and an “elite”, that his opinion is of COURSE more valuable than anyone else’s. This kind of arrogance blinds a person to seeing plain common sense….you don’t go to someone else’s country and insult them. D’oh. A third grader would have known better.

So, it seems that it was not just the issues with taxes, and his fuzzy timeline at Bain that made McCain think Palin was a better choice for VP. I respect McCain I just wish he would come clean on everything he knows about Romney once and for all.

Sadly, Britain (and other countries) having a low opinion of him will probably boost his popularity among his base. After all, “who’s England to tell us who to vote for? Didn’t we decide that question in 1781?”
Wait, what am I thinking? Mitt’s base doesn’t know that the revolution ended in 1781!
Kimber
Jul. 26th, 2012 at 6:14 pm
Yes, that’s the problem. He’s probably been sent across the pond to behave like a clueless idiot outside of the US specifically to boost his credibility with the Republican base. The more of an international embarrassment he can be for us, the better they like it. They always trash Obama for knowing how to behave in other countries – to them, that’s a bad thing. They’d be happy if Larry the Cable Guy was representing us.

Europeans likely do see the parallel between he and GW. And that’s NOT a good think. The ONLY difference is Mitt is a Hell of a lot smarter than GW but his arrogance is on par with “The Decider”!

Worse, they think that even going to Europe infects one with that deadly diseases liberalism and even socialism, and whoever does becomes effete and a traitor to the US.
That has literally been said – I think on one of the local Bible-Pounder radio stations. I know I’ve heard similar
sentiments in person.
I remember gritting my teeth while overhearing someone ranting about “People who go to Europe get all of these horrible communist ideas and bring them back!”. He was advocating limiting travel to other countries. I think it was at a flea market.
I’d say that going to Europe tends to get one to think and re-visit some of the “givens” (that which is taken as a given fact) of American culture. I know that exposure to the medical system (through helping a student with the worst sunburn I’ve ever seen), exposure to their public transportation system, and to the way they did a lot of things gained my respect, and lowered my already rather low opinion of the greed-driven corporate structure we live under here. I’ve heard the same sort of thing from others.

@Mistercutt–That play is right out of the Karl Rove playbook. But the repugs have added a new twist by “editing” Obama’s statements and taking them out of context.
Addtitionally, Mittens would like us to believe that he “saved the 2002 Oylmpics all by himself. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Salt Lake Oympic organizing committee worked for many many years, before landing the 2002 Winter Games. But, in order for that to happen, the corrupt practices of the IOOC notwithstanding, thousands and thousands of manhours and a huge amount of capital outlay and guarantees of venues were either in place or being built in Utah. Mitt Romney didn’t do that. He came into games that was well on its way to success. It was all the people already in place and behind the scenes that made the 2002 Winter Games happen before Mittens arrived in Salt Lake City. He was picked simply because he was moron in a predominately mormon state and city to put some kind of mormon face on the Olympics. At the point he came in, a trained baboon could have done the job. He was more of an overseer, carrying out well-established plans; not made by him, I might add. His arrogance doesn’t serve him, his cult religion or the United States well.

Can I have a Yaw to the Hoo? If he had a meeting with the top MI6 guys, I say the Brits made a mistake. He will sing about this like a canary bragging about how they trust him so much that they let him into a high-level intelligence meeting. If they showed him more than a coffee maker, it will bite them in the ass. I’ll bet Netanyahu is chomping at the bit to get to talk to this war monger. While he’s in Poland, he should stop by Auschwitz for a permanent visit. But that is now a museum. But he will find some way to piss off Putin while there. He will probably say we need more missiles installed to ward off the ‘Soviet Union’s’ quest to conquer Europe.

Lets not blame all of us Americans for the poor choices of the GOP base. Unless Mittens gets elected in Nov, then you can blame us. And remember no one ever chose Sarah Palin, she was hoisted upon us by a McCain campeign that was desperate to ignite the GOP base behind him (and thank you for that Mr. “Country First”). Let us hope that the “special breifing” that MI6 gave Mittens was intel from 5 or 6 years ago that no longer matters. Call me a nieve American, but I have a hard time believeing that a professional intelligence agency like MI6 would give a current, actionable, top secret, intel breifing to a foreigner, who has no top secret clearence in any country, just because he may (and i mean MAY)sometime in the future be a world leader.

Sadly, although his lack of skills and competency are clearly to be seen by anyone who spends even a minimal time in investigating candidate, many voters in the USA seem to care less. Does he lie? Does he evade taxes through offshore accounts? Does he flop back and forth on issues? The answer to these questions from many Americans is ‘So what?’ and they plan to vote for him anyway. Add to this the likelihood of the Conservative Right buying and stealing the election once again and things can only get worse. Romney is clearly as ill-equipped for the Presidency as was George W. Bush, but what makes him acceptable to the Right in the USA is the fact that he is not Barack Obama. God help us all.

I’m afraid your facts are a little bit off. While it is true that any corporation can make contributions to third party advertising (Super Pacs) in the US election. Non-US citizen human beings can not make financial contributions to candidates. (I’m not as sure about non-US citizens, as opposed to corporations being able to donate to Super pacs though. As a dual US/Canadian citizen I have to make a statement for every donation I’ve made to Obama or to Democratic candidates that I am a US citizen. If you find you can donate to anti-teaparty, anti-republican or pro-Obama super pacs, I say go for it. We all (the whole world) have to live with the consequences of this coming seminal tide change election!

Jul. 27th, 2012 at 11:44 am
Any UK company that is an arm of an American company can easily funnel cash to their American side and make whatever donation they want.
Citizens United makes it impossible to require disclosure of where the donations have come from, as the “front man” donor the corporation is the person donating.
Heck in this scenario, criminals and Mafia could probably donate to a political Super PAC and no one but the person facilitating the acceptance of cash would even know.
We need a Constitutional Amendment making Citizens United unconstitutional.

Let’s face it folks, this is just the first day of Mitt Romney’s “Bore Tour” through Europe and onto Israel… You have to realize, when Mitt Romney gets to either Poland or Israel, he’s going to make some kind of horrendous gaffe about the Polish death camps during WWII… I can just see it now… “Hey is that barbecue I smell or is Treblinka back up and running?” (facepalm).

It’s quite ironic that Willard Romney knew he couldn’t use his record as Massachusetts governor as a reference point for why he should be elected president, so he turned to his time at Bain. That has also proven to be disastrous, along with his decision not to show more of his tax returns, so he turned to foreign policy. Just as I expected, he managed to alienate the British with his rank, tactless stupidity. Let’s also remember that he recently rankled Australians with other stupid remarks. The only thing he has going for him, other than all the fat cats financing his campaign, is a bunch of low-information voters whose hatred for Barack Obama exceeds their reservations about Willard Romney and clouds their critical thinking and common sense.

Apparently Romney is more confident in London’s preparations than Obama! Romney is over in London visiting the Olympic, Obama is evidently afraid to go, or maybe still sulking because he is mad at the Olympic committee for chosing Rio in 2016? Citizens of England…don’t believe everything Obama says…we American’s have found out the hard way that he has no problem lying to our faces!

Keep at it. I know you have to find something to soothe your ruffled feathers over the fact that the GOP chose an unqualified candidate to run for POTUS. Andrew Sullivan was right in an article he posted today in which he said that the usual RW mouthpieces are silent since Romney has shown how unsuitable he is in trying to play “diplomat-in-chief.” Whenever I encounter a right-winger and he/she says the president has lied, none of them ever provide any evidence. If I were to say that Romney lies, I could supply a long list to support my claim. Talk is cheap. Put up or shut up. President Obama doesn’t have time to attend the Olympics. He’s too busy trying to assist Congress with getting a budget bill passed and taking care of other things that must be done before the year ends. Furthermore, if the president were to go to London to attend any Olympic event, you’d be one of the first to condemn him for it. You may not like the things President Obama says, but he doesn’t lie when he tells Americans about republican obstruction in Congress, the Ryan Budget, the republican plan to end Medicare, etc. Your problem is that you just like Romney, and you like republican politicians. Nothing wrong with that, but there is something wrong when you lie about politicians who tell you the truth and treat you like an adult. It says to me that you’re not really interested in the nation’s welfare, but that your main goal is getting the current president out of the White House. It’s a very poor reason for voting for a group of politicians who have done nothing but lie to the American people for over 40 years. I’m going to leave a link that proves that the politicians you love have been lying to you about their economic policies.

Like Bush Jr, Romney is just a face man for the occupational government.
The shadow government likes people that are easy to understand and manipulate. Romney is driven by greed. They like that because they can understand that.
What they don’t like is people who care about fairness and justice because they just can’t understand or control that. When somebody like Dr. Paul gives away his pay, performs medical work for free and proclaims he’s old enough that he doesn’t care about being assassinated any more – that scares the shadow government because they can’t buy him.
Right this moment, almost everyone in the UK can see what a total tool Romney is. What they need to realize is that most of their own leaders are also obvious tools to outside observers.

This is not the first time Mitt Romney has shown his rather insulting and uneducated face to the people of England and the rest of the UK. To quote a passage from his book entitled ‘No Apology‘ -
“England is just a small island. Its roads and houses are small. With few exceptions, it doesn’t make things that people in the rest of the world want to buy. And if it hadn’t been separated from the continent by water, it almost certainly would have been lost to Hitler’s ambitions.”

I have been living in England this summer and have heard countless political commentators here speak boldly and harshly of the President’s deconstruction of the “special relationship” that has long existed between England and the US. If you want to speak political truth then you need to look past the sound bites of the day. The President is remarkable unpopular here, so to use the British media as a tool to take a cheap shot at Romney is rather foolish.

Wow! This is a very immature discussion! Everyone needs to research the total facts before putting out untrue information and getting people all tailspin over nothing. Neither of the candidates are ideal…but really, tell me one good thing over the last four years our President has done that has made a true impact in your life? Please don’t tell me he gave you all the rich man’s money because you don’t have a job! We need a country that is working together as a whole United States and instead all we get are a bunch of people acting like they are still in school trying to win a popularity contest. Sit down and figure out what your true VALUES are and WHY…maybe you aren’t even sure. What are you truly convicted about? Then go do some REAL research to see who is most closely in line with your values instead of using stupid articles like this to get everyone all spun up over NOTHING! These are just articles to deter people from the real stuff…get educated…and I don’t mean a degree! We need to pull together America!

My taxes are lower now. I believe that gays should be able to openly serve in the military, they can now. I believe that they should also be allowed to marry, the DOJ is no longer defending DOMA.
So, yeah, there are a lot of good things, thanks for asking.
Do I agree with everything this president has done? Nope. Do I think that a large part of the blame should be on the less than do nothing Congress? Yup. Boehner and the boys have done a horrible job, unless you’re in favor of bill after bill banning aborion being brought to the House floor.

That is the old “They’re all the same” meme, and that has been disproved a long time ago.
You won’t hear lies out of the Democrats like you do out of the Republicans. I think that in this year alone, the Republicans have said more lies than I can remember coming from any Democrat – going back at least 45 to 50 years.
You don’t hear death threats out of the Democrats like you do Republicans.
Democrats aren’t trying to eliminate the constitution, or change it so drastically that it would be unrecognizeable – but there ARE Republicans who are calling for that very thing (check out what the dominionist leaders are calling for).
Democrats try to help people. Republicans would rather they starve to death (eliminate food stamps for instance), or freeze (eliminate help with heating bills – I wish that included A/C bills), and they have made it clear that their health plan for the poor is “Die quickly and cheaply – and if you can die in a way that makes us a profit, so much the better!”
Democrats represent the 99%. Republicans only serve their masters the 1% even as they stab them in the back.
Democrats would rather have peace and consider war a last resort only option (and only in self defense). Republicans? War with Iran anyone? (Never mind that the Iranian people aren’t a problem.)

The whole Olympics opening ceremony spectacle in the UK, and the populist anti-Romney posturing following his (valid) critique about inadequate planning and security, is partially to distract people from the British bank scandal that’s going down. In addition, in order to garner UK support for the upcoming Great War (when the proxy war in Syria expands to Iran etc.) they will have to stage a terrorist attack during the games, blame it on Iran and then Mitt comes off looking like an oracle while eating potato latkes during his next stops on the world domination tour……

There is NOTHING, absolutley NOTHING that says a Muslim, a Jew, a Hindu, an Atheist, or any other person of any religion other than Christianity CAN’T BE PRESIDENT.
Do you know we are a country of with freedom of religion? Meaning that we aren’t (or better yet shouldn’t be) ruled by Christian policies. There doesn’t need to be a Christian in ANY seat of power. Why does it matter what religion someone is? I see we have a bigot on our hands here.
Who cares if Obama is a Muslim or a Christian, as long as he governs like neither.
Stop being a close minded bigot, there is nothing that says the president of our nation has to be a certain religion. The constitution even tells us that religion and politics DO NOT MIX. The personal beliefs of a president DO NOT MATTER, as long as he doesn’t put those personal beliefs into his policies because that’s what our constitution says to do. Our Constitution doesn’t say rule by your religion, quite to opposite.
Learn what our country is about please. Who gives two flying fucks what religion our president is? We aren’t a Christian nation, Muslim nation, Jewish nation, we are a FREE nation. Meaning, think what you want, believe what you want, but if you find yourself in any seat of power you better not push your fundamental religious bull shit into our laws. I would be less worried about God “putting judgement on the US” and more concerned with how disappointed our founding fathers would be with us if they could see what we have become.

I would say to you Sir: Please just shut the hell up! I honestly do not know if you are a liberal poser trying to make conservatives look worse than they are or what your game is. But just stop it. You are not convincing and you add nothing. Just shut up! Your comments are beyond despicable. These are words that ensue from a horrid, despicable nasty little creature. Psychic horror. Really…*shudder* I don’t know who or what you are but stop talking.

Folks like you are the reason why the US is a laughing stock to the rest of the world, you’re letting the team down. Smarten up.

It is a severe insult to people with mental retardation to infer dannyboy998′s comments correlate with this condition.

I hate it when people my age try to write news. Somehow, “epic fail” doesn’t quite fit into the flow of a news article.
