Romney Supporters Illegally Imprisoned at Pennsylvania Campaign Rally
Citing ‘security concerns’, Romney supporters were not allowed to leave his Pennsylvania campaign rally even though the crowd had been waiting in the freezing cold for the tardy candidate for hours.
Reporters at the event tweeted the chaos as Romney supporters were forbidden to leave the event.
Michael Barbaro of The New York Times,
“We’ve got to get out! My daughter is frostbitten,” begs mom, asking to leave Romney rally. Staffer replies: “It’s not cold enuf for that.”
— Michael Barbaro (@mikiebarb) November 4, 2012
Barbaro then tweeted a clarification that staffers had told reporters that it wasn’t cold enough to allow the crowd to leave.
To be clear. Staffer said that to reporters. Not to mother.
— Michael Barbaro (@mikiebarb) November 4, 2012
Here is Jackie Kucinich from USA Today,
Woman says “I feel like a caged animal!” before pushing through staffer. Said she was here since 2.
— Jackie Kucinich (@JFKucinich) November 5, 2012
Man just pulled me aside and said “My son is on the verge of hypothermia” just as staffer starts letting people out a few at a time.
— Jackie Kucinich (@JFKucinich) November 4, 2012
In this world of instant political media shorthand, the story was changed to Romney campaign won’t let his supporters out. In reality, it was the Romney campaign, volunteers, and the Secret Service not letting people out.
Both volunteers and a secret service were trying to keep people in- it was not just Romney staff.
— Jackie Kucinich (@JFKucinich) November 5, 2012
It is difficult to believe that a photo-op obsessed campaign like Romney’s would just have security in mind. The people who came to this rally already went through security when they entered, so the whole idea that letting out some cold children would present a security threat is laughable. (The Romney campaign has already demonstrated their fear of children with their refusal to take questions from Nickelodeon, so anything is possible, I guess.) As a person who spent years working with venues and security details, I can tell you that those children and people could have been allowed to leave the venue while posing zero security risk to anyone.
My own experience tells me that this was less about security, and more about Romney preserving the image of viability and vitality that he is desperately chasing around the country.
The point that is being overlooked is that Mitt Romney is supposed to be this organized businessman who can “fix the economy,” but he also is the same guy whose campaign pulled the douchebag move of leaving his supporters out in the cold for hours. (His campaign knew they had been delayed. They could have done things to keep the crowd comfortable, but they chose not to.)
Mitt Romney has been unable to shake the impression that he is a corporate raider, heartless SOB, and fair or not, debacles like the one in Pennsylvania will only serve to reinforce this notion.
The storyline that the Romney campaign wanted out of this rally was that they are on the move and expanding the electoral map. Instead, “I feel like a caged animal,” is the takeaway line.
Whether it was the fault of the campaign, volunteers, or the Secret Service, this just makes Romney look bad.
Nothing says that you care about regular people like illegally imprisoning your own supporters while you are running late.

Absolutely no truth to the lack of access story.
People were incredibly well behaved despite a massive turnout I was imply stunned by how many folks went I’d think 25k was a lowball.
Exit was about 400 feet wide and well lit. It was shut for about 10 minutes when the romney bus made its way across the fields for safety and security as it was a wide open field.

The churches that supported a non-Christian cult leader should be ashamed. They abandonded their God and His Son just to please their carnal racist hatred. If they truly believe in Hell then they should get ready for some place warmer in their futures.

First off, how can you even call yourself a christian when you act like this?
1: Who are you to judge.
2: Even if you don’t consider his religion Christian, you yourself are still not of any original Christian belief, instead belonging to thousands of off-shoots that branched into their own beliefs and likings.
3: Thirdly, Churches belong to America just as well, and therefore are free to choose what they do and who they support. You have 0 reasons or rights to tell them or even judge them for what they do.
4: While you spill your own hatred, you then talk about someone elses hatred? You call them racist and then spit out your own prejudice?
5: No you are no Christian or any other decent belief system. You are a moron, a bigot, a racist, and worst of all, ignorant of everything you claim to hate and think you know. You are the kind of person that makes religion look bad. All so you think you can play an important role in this world and have some form of satisfaction.

Jordan, churches do not “Belong” to America, we have a separation of church and state. And, since churches enjoy a tax free status they aren’t allowed to campaign.
Each member can do as they wish, as American citizens have the right to do, but the church itself cannot raise money or donate money to a campaign without being in danger of losing their tax free status. Many churches have already been turned in for doing just that. I figure, take the tax breaks away from them anyway, they certainly do nothing to earn it and considering the billions raked in by religious hucksters, they certainly deserve to pay the fair share of taxes.
Jesus even said “Render unto Ceaser what is Ceasar’s ” when asked if his followers sho9uld pay taxes or not. Seems the churches are picking and choosing what teachings they wish to follow.

I’m not so sure they would. I read many tweets, and some people are saying they where there and it didn’t happen. While others who were there say, well it was a security concern it wasn’t so bad. And then finally you have yet more people who where there and said it was horrible. The really bad thing about a lot of the tweets I read from people commenting on this was how many are convince this is a made up story by the Obama camp. Even people who are admitting that it happened are saying that it’s being blown out of proportion by yes you guessed it the Obama camp. I find it really sad that even people who know this happened can excuse it and still follow Romney. But I did read 3 comments from Romney supporters who have decided to change their vote-so maybe theres some hope for some of them after all.

I would not be surprised one bit if this is entirely true. Back in 2004, I was living in Medford Oregon and Dick Cheney was making a stop there. There were very large crowds and it was over 100 degrees. The ‘Dick’ was late, very late, and the old folks were dropping like flies. The campaign had them all roped in and there was NO WATER for them to drink. All of their water was taken away at the security check point, which would have been fine, if they provided drinking water once the crowds were ‘corralled’ waiting for Dick, but they didn’t. Several people were hospitalized.
So, yeah, I believe it.

I feel bad for those people, how horrible for the campaign to have done that but I’ve experienced ill treatment with the Kerry staffers so I know it can go both ways.
The Kerry campaign staffers in a event where John Kerry and Ben Affleck spoke in Greensburg, Pa had us volunteers working in on and off pouring rain, while hardly anybody had any umbrellas and they had promised us lunch so nobody ate before they came. At the end of the event, they told us that there wasn’t any food and that we would have to clean up the trash and put away the chairs. So the volunteers did the cleaning up, while the staffers just stood there, eating their food, and laughing as they watched us work.
It’s sad that it happens but it shows that regardless of party that there are those kind of people everywhere though mostly on the Republican side for sure.

Here in Colorado Mitt’s team handed out 25,000 tickets to attend his rally at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Problem is the venue only seats 10,000. thousands of people with tickets were turned away all at once creating absolute traffic chaos at rush hour. I wasn’t even trying to attend but got caught in the snarl for hours all the same. But hey, a packed venue for the rally sure looked good on tv. That’s what’s most important to them: appearances. Ryan’s phony soup kitchen pic, and Romney’s bogus Sandy assistance prove they don’t care about helping as long as they can LOOK like they’re helping. God help us all if they win.

I was there and as stated there was an exit about 400 feet wide you could exit through anytime.
There was about a 10 minute period during which the Romney bus was coming into stadium next to exit and the area was stopped for the bus to get in that was more of a safety and security thing and was obvious as the bus could clearly be seen on the field driving into stadium.
Additionally if you walked away from the stadium stands there was approx 1.5 miles worth of orange temporary fencing you could put your foot on and walk right over nobody stopping that.
Lack of awareness is the only reason someone couldn’t get out. It also was in low 40′s so not cold for around here but certainly children should never have been brought to a multi-hour outdoor event many in little or no outerware. I did not bring my kids for this reason.

What idiots bring young children to a political rally??? IF they were actually “Held” hostage, they should have contacted the police. I doubt this really happened. Why didn’t the parents take control of their children’s welfare??? I’ve never been to any kind of rally that didn’t last hours more than originally intended.
One time I had to bring my daughter to a union rally and will never again. Political rallies are just as bad. These places attract many angry, vulgar, rough and unmannerly people who make these events inappropriate for children.

What a total fabrication and desperate attempt by the Dem’s to create drama and anti-Romney propaganda. Standard operating procedure for the left liberals that have no record of real leadership to run on, just lie about the other side and do what whatever it takes to try and discredit an outstanding rally that out-shadows the attendance of any Obama rally.
I was in attendance for everything from 1:45 PM until Romney’s closing remarks. There were many exit points that did not involve any event staffers, TSA security, or secret service. All one had to do was go for a walk. I never saw anyone get stopped trying to leave at anytime.
This is a ridiculous accusation that just shows how running scared the Obama team really is.
