Rubio Confirms That Romney Will Sign Bill Banning Abortion
On “Meet the Press” today, Romney surrogate Senator Marco Rubio confirmed a troubling fact: as President, Mitt Romney would sign a bill banning abortion.
Watch here:
Transcript:
GREGORY: On the question of abortion- true or untrue? Governor Romney has said that he would sign a bill that banned abortion, should that come to his desk.
RUBIO: And I think what he’s saying is–he’s laying out very clearly what his record is on and the exceptions that he supports. And there’s diversity on those in the Republican Party. But he has also clearly said he is pro-life. He has never run away from his record as a pro-life candidate or a pro-life governor before that. But he is setting clear what he believes the exceptions are that he stands for.
GREGORY: But that he would sign a bill if, it came to that, to ban abortion.
RUBIO: He is pro-life. And he has talked about how he is pro-life. He also believes in certain exceptions. And that ad you have just played, what it does is it identifies those exceptions that he believes in.
This segment was called “Gender politics” and the “women’s vote” so naturally David Gregory and Mark Rubio were talking and that’s why no one asked the question a woman would have asked.
WHICH BILL?
The media doesn’t get it. Which bill? The bill Romney said he supported that made no exceptions — the Personhood Amendment? That bill, which is the only bill I’ve heard him support in the campaign, makes no exceptions for rape, incest or life of the mother. This means that the common occurrence of ectopic pregnancies, for example, could result in the death of the woman.
Rubio points to a Romney ad as his “policy” on what exceptions he would make, but Romney’s ads are not known for their veracity or even distant relationship to his actual policies. Governor Romney might be saying he is for these exceptions in an ad, but he has told his base something completely different and he said it on national TV.
You would think this would be something to follow up on, but Rubio is allowed to slide around with vague exceptions because it’s not David Gregory who might die due to Romney’s whims.
Romney tells the press he is proudly “pro-life” (what a joke — pro war, anti food and medical care for children, but “pro-life” because he wants to control a woman’s uterus) and says he would make exceptions but he tells his base that he supports personhood legislation that would establish the definition of life as conception. Which is it?
Romney wants to defund Planned Parenthood (access to contraception among other healthcare screening), his running mate wrote the “forcible rape” bill with Todd Akin (of “legitimate rape” infamy) and now Romney is dancing around which bill he’s going to sign to make abortion illegal.
Does anyone get the idea that Romney is mirroring the Congressional Republicans in that he has more plans for women’s bodies than he does for the economy?
Rubio also managed to slam the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in a desperate effort to smear the act in order to justify Romney’s failure to support it. He claimed it would enrich trial lawyers. Your 1950′s character for President is clear — we are going back to back alley abortions under Romney.

More SPIN: I do not believe Rubio is correct that Romney was a pro life governor. He was pro-choice and claimed he was ‘more pro-gay’ then Kennedy when he ran against him…

Romney as Governor of Massachusetts gave money to Planned Parenthood. Now he changes his mind.
He is the Boy George of American politics. He’s “a man without convictions…..”

The problem with Willard is that Willard will be whatever works toward his goals and ambitions. If he needs to be pro-life, that’s what he’ll be. If he needs to be pro-choice, then he’ll be that too. He’s already stated publicly they told him he’d never win in MASS if he weren’t pro-choice, so pro-choice he became. Frankly, I don’t think he’s got any values at all. Only what serves his ambition and greed.
But let’s look at the bigger picture here, the GOP picture. There is a reason the GOP has been obsessive about women’s rights for the last two years. Call me crazy, whatever, I really don’t care, but this is just one step in a long march toward depriving certain segments of the population of their rights, back to an 1850s mentality when women didn’t have the right to vote and back to the days when women couldn’t own property, etc. If the GOP was getting the bulk of the women’s vote this election year, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. When they’re done with the women, they’ll start in on the African American and Latino populations, who typically vote for the Dem ticket. Again, if either of those two groups voted predominantly GOP, they’d be kissing their butts left and right.
Power and control, that’s all this is about.

Yes. Romney claims to be pro life, but he also made a fortune investing in a company that sells aborted fetal parts for profit. That’s the REAL reason he doesn’t want to release his tax returns.

VIDEO – ROMNEY IN HIS OWN WORDS – WOULD ALLOW STATES TO OUTLAW EVEN BIRTH CONTROL ! ! 47 years ago the Supreme Court decided that states didn’t have the right to ban birth control. But for some reason, nearly 50 years later, some politicians actually think government SHOULD have a role in saying who can and can’t use birth control. Mitt Romney is one of these politicians. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6...

Romney was a pro choice Governor but of course we all know his flip flopping on just about EVERY issue. How can anyone believe anything this man says?

Well, get it all out there, boys, then claim you adore and respect women!
We are not stupid. I do not want my granddaughter to become a brood mare for her husband. She is bright, articulate, and wants to become an artist. She excels in school, and soaks up life. I want HER to decide when or if she wants children in 20 years. Her mother has been forbidden to become pregnant again, after two pregnancies on bed rest. She is on an IUD..will they ban that too? Of course they will, because we are just votes to these guys..votes and vaginas to invade. I am so sick of the arrogance of the GOP…and the stupidity of any woman considering voting for these
medieval idiots.

Did the Republicans forget how to answer a yes or no question? All you get from them is spin and more spin, because they know their policies are not going to fly with mainstream America.

Surprised? Think this is the worst he’ll do? The man’s got a 19th century charlatan’s book of outrages to commit, and he’ll proceed with a vengeance because everyone is too polite and afraid to offend the cult.
When the worst happens, and it will happen, the hand-wringing polite people will wonder how a religious monster was unleashed on this country. Keep in mind though, when Mormonism is the government, questioning the cult will be illegal.

Not everyone. I will be perfectly happy to point out that he follows a cult that was invented by a well-documented charlatan.

We all know where the War on Women is going if the radical fundamentalist cults of nefarious, fairy-tale, christian origins get their minuscule-minority, greedy little hands on the reins of governmental power…
And of course, we all know things were better at the turn of the century…like the time Grover Cleavland wrote an article for the “Ladies Home Journal” stating his opposition to women voting…
“We all know how much further women go than men in their social rivalries and jealousies…sensible and responsible women do not want to vote”.
Yeah, sure, Grover…Can anyone even remotely picture or imagine what this country would be like if women and minorities never got to vote?

When the US gov’t forces women to be criminals, there will be a revolt the likes of which hasn’t been seen since the late 1700s. There is no possible way the population of the US will stand for this. It is 100% motivated by extremist religious nutcases.

The ONLY reason the GOP is engaging in all this talk about abortions is because their record regarding the economy is a disaster. It’s like the last few Republican presidents never happened and all their proven (ha ha) policies are the way to go. If the GOP hadn’t hitched their wagon to religious conservatives many years ago they’d be SO gone by now.

Since he has definitely said previously that he would ban Planned Parenthood, that tells me that his so-called pro-life credentials and his pledge to allow abortions in cases of rape or incest are meaningless. The vast majority of PP’s work is non-abortion since they provide the very birth control that helps to cut down on the need for abortions, along with other services like prenatal care and treatment for STD’s. Willard has proven time and time again that he is an unethical shape-shifter who will say and do anything to get elected. One thing I DO take him at his word for is his statement to the effect that we wouldn’t vote for him if he said what he would do as president. That’s more than enough to distrust him.

Please consider this view on the “abortion” debate from a sexual assault survivor. It is very important that we always bring the conversation back to the real issue…
The right for a woman to control her own reproduction. Then we can stop all the rape talk. I want my flashbacks to end.

Yes, Mitt Romney presented himself as pro-choice in order to win office in Massachusetts. You all should read this interview of Judith Dushku by Susan Mazur. Judith Dushku is a Massachusetts Mormon feminist who published an interview of Mitt Romney. She knows him very well. Read down to the end in which Judith Dushku details Mitt Romney’s response to the question about his change from being pro-life to pro-choice.

if the link doesn’t come up, google “Mitt Romney and Judith Dushku interview”
I think it reveals his real agenda. He’s been planning this for a long time.

Why are you even interviewing this little puke, this little Rube-io, this little ingrate? Ask Mitt Romney! For his tax returns, for his tax plan, for his agenda, for his true stance on all of the MORAL questions and issues that distract this campaign, for his environmental policy statements, for his reason for accepting campaign money from undisclosed corporations, for his reason(s) for even thinking that he is even remotely presidential …

Romney ‘stumps’ moderate type words. Of course — that’s standard in a general election. Doesn’t mean you should buy into it as it’s a 180 from everything he has said. It’s called pandering.
Behind Romney is Ryan – who is attempting to stump in agreement being the second on the ticket those same ‘moderate’ type words and he hasn’t exactly been successful. It’s not in his DNA but he too, like Romney, is in it for the title — the power — the win.
More importantly, all you have to do is look behind Romney & Ryan and there is not a ‘moderate’ word, thought, feeling to be had by anyone in the Republican party. There is not a chance in hell a Republican in DC would submit or vote for anything that has a smell of ‘moderation’, of ‘center’ to it.
An abortion bill ‘with exceptions’ — won’t happen. Romney would never get the votes from his own party.
We know what the Republican platform is and in a Romney/Ryan administration – Ryan has Romney’s ear together with his history of what he has previously done in Congress along with Akin et al.
The Romney ‘moderate’ talk is for show only. We’ve watched as he has said one thing on the stage of a debate and before he left the building, his campaign staff issued the 180 Etch-A-Sketch.
