Rush Limbaugh Blames Air Conditioners For Belief In Climate Change

On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh blamed air conditioning for the fact that people believe in climate change.

Here is the audio from Media Matters:

Limbaugh said, “I have a theory about global warming and why people think it’s real. Go back, 30, 40 years when there was much less air conditioning in the country. When you didn’t have air conditioning and you left the house, it may have in fact gotten a little cooler out there because sometimes houses become hot boxes. Especially if you are on the second or third floor of a house in the summer time, and all you’ve got is open windows and window fan, or a servant fanning you with a piece of paper. When you walked outside no big deal still hot as hell, now 30, 40 years later all this air conditioning, and it’s a huge difference when you go outside. When you go outside now, my golly is it hot, global warming. It’s all about the baseline you’re using for comparison.”

This theory is almost a crazy as Limbaugh’s belief that the heat index is a government conspiracy. Limbaugh has no time for any of the scientific evidence, or the record breaking extreme weather events that are now occurring with regularity. Nope, the problem is air conditioning. If we weren’t cooled off so well by our A/C, we would be able to see that there is no climate change at all.

To Rush Limbaugh, climate change is a state of mind. Air conditioners have made us think that it is hotter than what it really is. The people who believe in climate change have been duped by air conditioning.

It’s not like there is any scientific evidence to support climate change:

Turn off your air conditioner, go stand outside, and see for yourself that global warming doesn’t exist.

Just don’t stay out there too long because the temperatures associated with the never before seen heat wave will kill you if you do.

He’s such a tool. Who listens to him without laughing out loud before they cry over the fact that someone this ignorant is the person Boehner had to get approval on his “plan” from? THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is the brain trust behind the GOP. Live it up.

I’ve lived in Florida most of the last 55 years, and almost all of that with no air conditioning. Guess what? It’s hotter… much hotter.

    I fear he thinks he is real, a privilege only afforded to those whose skin color and gender and wealth/fame/power landed them (however unworthy – talk about market failures) at the top.

Yep, he’s on drugs, but was he ever really off them? Doubtful. And this is the man that Boehner felt he needed to seek approval from prior to revealing his latest ridiculous plan for the debt ceiling? We’re doomed if this is our future.

Reading the comments so far, I had to smile and chuckle at the same time become sad and upset. Democrats do not have a “Rush”, do they?

Last night someone on the news said that Boehner had to check with Rush first about his debt ceiling plan. Is this true or a joke?

One can see that Limbaugh longs for a return to the past, and this part of his comment nails it: “or a servant fanning you with a piece of paper.”

I so long for a return to the days when my ancestors were the ones “fanning” people like Limbaugh “with a piece of paper.” /s/
