Rush Limbaugh Demands to be Named Time Person of the Year Because He Made Sandra Fluke Famous
After Sandra Fluke made Time’s short list for Person of the Year, Rush Limbaugh demanded that he be named person of the year, because he made Fluke famous.
Here is the audio from Media Matters:
Transcript from Rush Limbaugh:
LIMBAUGH: The one thing that Obama is known for, this War on Women. If they want to claim a mandate, I guess they could on that, but giving away free contraception — Snerdley, have you heard this? TIME Magazine puts out their short list for Person of the Year. And among the people on it is Sandra Fluke. Now, not something I’m proud of here, folks. I must be blatantly honest. Nobody would know who she is if it weren’t for me. If anybody is gonna be named Person of the Year on that basis, it ought to be me. It’s not an honor that I would appreciate because it represents a little bit of a screw-up, but the fact of the matter is that she’s even on the list.
You go back and you look at some of the TIME Magazine people of the year from way back, I mean they were really substantive, serious people. You look at the short list, and what’s happened is that TIME Magazine and the rest of the media, the world now revolves around them and their potential people of the year all happen to be media types one way or the other. It is the most narcissistic bunch of people that you can run into, outside of Obama and his acolytes. Yeah, Jon Stewart’s on the short list, too. Oh, it’s the pop culture. It’s what I’m telling you. If there’s one area where we don’t exist, it’s there. It’s why I keep saying that our comeback is not just gonna be political; it’s gonna have to be cultural as well.
Rush Limbaugh wants to be rewarded for slandering Sandra Fluke repeatedly on his radio show. He is still at it to this day. The only difference now is that he uses subtler and shorter jabs. While Limbaugh is at it, maybe he would like credit for losing the 2012 presidential election for the Republican Party?
It can be argued that Mitt Romney had zero chance of winning with female voters after he refused to take a stand against Limbaugh’s remarks. Who can forget Romney’s weak kneed not language I would have used answer? By attacking Sandra Fluke, Rush Limbaugh confirmed existence of the War on Women. Before Akin and Mourdock, there was Rush Limbaugh attacking Sandra Fluke.
Getting on the Time shortlist had nothing to do with Limbaugh slanderous attacks, and everything to do with how Fluke has turned such a negative event into a platform for important issues.

I still do not regret hoping he would die back in 2009 when he had the heart attack of whatever. He’s a waste of flesh.

I snatched a snippet from a eulogy written by H.L. Mencken on William Jennings Bryant…it sort of reminded me of Rush (he and his merry band of yokels and their “cultural comeback”).
“…Thus he fought his last fight, eager only for blood. It quickly became frenzied and preposterous, and after that pathetic. All sense departed from him. He bit right and left, like a dog with rabies. He descended to demagogy so dreadful that his very associates blushed. His one yearning was to keep his yokels heated up — to lead his forlorn mob against the foe. That foe, alas, refused to be alarmed. It insisted upon seeing his battle as a comedy….”

This so reminds me of John McCain today. The only difference is that William Jennings Bryan is dead, but, in a way, so is McCain. The former John McCain that many of us could respect is dead–replaced by the witch hunting, vile, bitter, conspiracy theory peddling humunculus.

That’s about like saying if you were honoring Anne Frank, you should honor Hitler for being the one to make her famous.

Didn’t know TIME named should-be felons to “Man of Year” fame. Let’s remember, how many people are in prison in Florida for oxycontin perscription shopping? Why isn’t Rush one of them? Seems to be a bit odd, doesn’t it?

Rush seems to forget that the reason Fluke was testifying was because of the laws put out by the state GOP’s.
The criminal section of the GOP made her famous. Not Rush

Limpballs, this is the ONE time in history that I actually agree with you.
Because, considering who Time has selected as Person Of The Year in past:
- Adolf Hitler [1938]
- Josef Stalin [1939, 1942]
- Ayatollah Khomeini [1979]
a fat, drug-addicted, draft-dodging, college dropout pedophile like you, would fit RIGHT in.

Time has lit quite a few fires through the years, if I remember correctly. I know it was being hotly debated in 2001 whether or not to have Osama bin Laden as ‘Man of the Year,’ but there was such an awful public brouhaha about it, they deep-sixed the idea. It was then I really looked at it, and I remember reading that Time considers anybody who MOST substantially affected events/other people/etc – good or bad. No matter how much I personally loathed the idea – they were right. Going strictly by that standard, bin Laden would win hands down.
It wouldn’t matter where and how they looked at it this year, Rush would lose at EVERY level. Disgusting, sick, twisted slob. His petty gutter-sniping is never gonna put him on the cover of anything, at least I sincerely hope not.

Limbaugh is a boil on the butt of humanity. Enough said about him.
Now, as for this continued assertion that women want free birth control, it should be noted that women aren’t asking for it to be free – they are asking for ACCESS. The same access men have to Viagra. Insurance companies started covering Viagra not long after it was introduced, yet some of those same insurance companies did not cover contraception – any type of contraception, even that used to control ovarian cysts. What the Obama Administration said is that like other preventative medicine, contraception will be covered and it will be covered at no copay. My insurance company has offered contraception at no copay for years, as has my sister’s insurance company. But make no mistake – we PAY for that benefit in the form of insurance premiums. It is not “free” regardless of how many times Rush and the rest of the idiots say it is.

The only “honor” Rush Limbaugh should be entitled to is a Rogue’s Gallery of fools and instigators. Sandra Fluke rightly deserves fame for standing up to the all-male Congressional group that tried to exclude her and other women from testifying, and for keeping her dignity in spite of Limbaugh’s vicious and vociferous insults. She is one of my heroines. This is because she gave testimony indicating the uses of birth control that encompass women’s health beyond contraception. An additional favor was exposing the mindset of the kinds of men who want to turn the clock back on women’s reproductive rights, and therefore our personal empowerment to participate fully in society. Both Willard Romney’s embrace of these backward policies and his resulting failure to speak out against the likes of Limbaugh, Akin, and Mourdock went a long way toward costing him the support of most women who voted. So, he also deserves a special “honor” of contributing to the GOP’s defeat this year.

Republican mouthpiece R Limbaugh Person of the Year for repeatedly bullying a young woman, one Ms. Sandra Fluke?
Yo, Limbaugh, you’re not even a shoe-in for Republican two bit shock jock Bully of the Year –-you’ve got stiff competition in this category…then again, it takes a really really big Republican bully-man to go after a college girl, right? Ought to be extra Republican bully points for that, eh macho misogynist GOPers?
Ms. Sandra Fluke has my respect and admiration; she has shown grace, intellect and confidence in the face of an onslaught of Republican bullying.

We need to stop commenting on what Rush Limbaugh says. Then maybe the media will realize that we don’t care what he says and stop telling us what he says. I do not listen to his show (and mostly to the outlets that carry his program.)

Hang-on, wasn’t it Nancy Pelosi that held the separate hearing, after all the old clergy testified for the first (republican) one ?
Perhaps Sandra and Nancy should share the honors.

Maybe he could be considered as, “man of the year” in the category of, “the person most responsible for releasing the most odorous gas into the atmosphere”.
