Rick Santorum Claims the Military has Been Indoctrinated into Supporting DADT Repeal
At CPAC today Rick Santorum took a question from military spouse about the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and turned it into suggestion that military has been indoctrinated, “I am not too sure that we haven’t so indoctrinated the officer corps in the this country that they can actually see straight to make the right decision.”
Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:
Santorum said, “I guess my thoughts are this. The military is there for one purpose and purpose only, and that is to protect and defend the United States of America, and if we need to look at the policies that make us strong, that gives us the best possibility to do this. We are not like people compare this to Israel, in that has had the gays serving in the military for a long time, that’s because everybody serves in the military, not everybody in this country serves in the military. People serve because the volunteer to do it, and they can un-volunteer to do it.”
Ricky later moved on to his indoctrination claim, “My concern is that as you saw with the QDR, that I talked about, is political correctness is reigning in the military right now, and its I wish I could say it is just this administration, but it has been reigning for a long, long time, so I do worry when many people stand up and say whatever the generals want. I’m not too sure that we haven’t so indoctrinated the officer corps in this country that they can actually see straight to make the right decision.”
I present to you, ladies and gentlemen, Rick Santorum, your 2012 values candidate for the Republican nomination. He is a man who believes that his values are more important than the advice of the military leadership. Santorum was actually stating that the military leadership should not be trusted to make the decision on DADT.
Longtime readers know my feelings about Rick Santorum. I live in Pennsylvania, so I have firsthand experience with the deadly combination of arrogance and moral superiority that is Santorum. Rick Santorum sees everything from his religious winger pulpit. His example of straight not volunteering to serve in the military, doesn’t take into account the idea that DADT discourages gay individuals from serving.
We all know that gays are not the kind of people that Santorum and his ilk want serving in their military. Santorum threw up the smokescreen of indoctrination to hide the fact the real fascists aren’t on the Left, but they those like himself who are gathered at CPAC plotting out they can impose their values on us all.
