If Sarah Palin Wants Bin Laden’s Death Photos Released It’s A Bad Idea
By: Guest ContributorMay. 4th, 2011more from Guest Contributor
After President Obama stated in an upcoming 60 Minutes interview that he has decided not release the death photos of Osama Bin Laden, Sarah Palin blasted Obama via the security of her Tweet Bunker. If Palin thinks that releasing the photos was a good, then Obama definitely did the right thing by not making them public.
Obama told 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft why he decided not to release the Bin Laden photos,
You know, we discussed this internally. Keep in mind that we are absolutely certain this was him. We’ve done DNA sampling and testing. And so there is no doubt that we killed Osama bin Laden. It is important for us to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence. As a propaganda tool. You know, that’s not who we are.
You know, we don’t trot out this stuff as trophies. You know, the fact of the matter is this was somebody who was deserving of the justice that he received. And I think– Americans and people around the world are glad that he’s gone. But we don’t need to spike the football. And I think that given the graphic nature of these photos, it would create some national security risk. And I’ve discussed this with Bob Gates and Hillary Clinton and my intelligence teams and they all agree.”
This led Sarah Palin to send out a tweet that if Obama did not release the photos he was soft and failing the Bin Laden mission:
Okay, we all know how this game is played. Sarah Palin is going to immediately take the opposite position on any Obama decision. If Obama has decided that it might rain today, Palin will take to her Twitter account and criticize the President for leading America down the path of overcast, when everyone knows that it is going to be sunny.
Sarah Palin still views herself as the foremost Republican critic of Obama. Remember, this is the same person who thinks that Obama stole the election from her 2008. In her mind, the current occupant of the Oval Office has usurped her throne. Sarah appears to have blocked out that John McCain was the Republican presidential nominee in 2008, not her.
If Obama has any doubts about his decision not to release the Bin Laden death photos, they should have been erased the second Palin tweeted her criticism.
Why?
Since Sarah Palin was on the 2008 Republican ticket, she has become the political Wrong Way Jones. Every single major decision that she has made has been the wrong one. Palin decided to make a boatload of money, and she thought that she could remain the Republican frontrunner by quitting her job as governor of Alaska. Wrong. Sarah Palin thought it would be a great idea to pick fights with talk show hosts like David Letterman, and attack respected authors like Joe McGinniss. Wrong and Wrong.
Palin thought that people would still take her seriously after she did a reality TV show, and that if her daughter won Dancing With The Stars America would again love her. Wrong. Sarah Palin thought that she could take on Karl Rove and there wouldn’t be any consequences. Palin thought that after the Gabrielle Giffords shooting, the Blood Libel video was a great idea. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
If Sarah Palin thinks anything is a good idea, then it is a ridiculously terrible idea that may possibly involve jeopardizing national security. 2/3 of America immediate rejects anything Palin says, and with good reason. The only person in the Republican Party with worse political instincts than Sarah Palin is Donald Trump.
Anything that Wrong Way Palin proposes is a bad idea for America.
Congratulations, President Obama. According to our Palin Decision Making Index, not releasing the Bin Laden photos grades out to be another excellent decision.

Miss 83-IQ believes the photos should be released even though the Republican co-chair of the House Intelligence Committee has spoken forcefully against the idea in terms similar to those of the President’s.
So obviously the way to go is with Miss Borderline Educable.

Is that photo of her wearing a KKK robe and hood – it even has the emblem in the right place — what message is she trying to send?

I myself wondered if that garb(age) represented a KKK hood or a 15th century hennin, until I came to the conclusion it was a dunce cap.

My apologies: I misidentified Mike Rogers as the repubican co-chair of the House Intelligence committee. In fact, he is the Chairman:
Republican House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers said Wednesday that the Obama administration should not release the gruesome post-The killing of Osama bin Ladenmortem (sic) images, saying it could complicate the job for American troops overseas. Rogers told CBS News he has seen a post-mortem photo.
“The risks of release outweigh the benefits,” he said. “Conspiracy theorists around the world will just claim the photos are doctored anyway, and there is a real risk that releasing the photos will only serve to inflame public opinion in the Middle East.”
“Imagine how the American people would react if Al Qaeda killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the internet,” he continued. “Osama bin Laden is not a trophy – he is dead and let’s now focus on continuing the fight until Al Qaida has been eliminated.”

Also, too, I don’t know that it’s a bad idea just because The Quittah is advocating for their release. I know Paul Rieckhoff is advocating for their release. And while he didn’t serve in Afghanistan, he did serve in Iraq and does head the IAVA, so he knows a lot of servicemen/women.

Even someone who has forfeited our respect in life deserves it in death. We do not expose rotting heads on our city gates; we do not hang the tarred cadavers of our executed criminals from public gibbets; we do not haul the corpses of our slain enemies behind our chariots or our cars. Nor do we expose such photos as these. Those determined to think Bin Ladin did not die will keep thinking it, but to quite ordinary people, any gesture that looks like gloating or vindictiveness from our Chief of State would create contempt and outrage. Our President has borne himself with the dignity and nobility proper to his office. Let him continue so.

Bravo Reynardine! Really excellent comment. I also think that people forget that international law forbids graphic publications of humiliating and degrading images, for propaganda purposes, of captured or killed military opponents.

I admire Rieckhoff but cant agree with him in this case. Smart diplomacy’s what’s indicated for this decision; not blood-thirsty display of trophies.
Think of the tasteless illustrated t-shirts that would be forced on our consciousness.
No thanks.

Ah, age! Ah, myopia and astigmatism! Once more I started to read: “If Stalin wants…” But that proves my point. As far as I know, not even Stalin made such grisly exposures; nor should we.

I personally am not happy the photos were not shown. We got to watch Americans jumping out of the WTC’s, why shouldn’t we be able to see the man that perpetrated the act?
It certainly doesn’t change how I feel about Obama or support him, but I thought they should have been passed all around the world.
This is your brain on violence
BTW, Sarah looks hot in that white hood and gown. Far hotter than in red. Just makes me want to go medieval on her. But then I think to myself, she might talk or tweet

Shiva,
I usually agree with, and appreciate, many of your commentaries, but on this one I have to respectfully disagree. First, International Law prohibits publications of humiliating and degrading images of adversaries in war. Second, posting graphic images of the killing of bin Laden might have provoked irrational violent responses against innocent Americans. For me, I would not sacrifice the lives of innocent people for temporary immediate gratification of seeing bin Laden’s bullet ridden body.
I think the President, as he has done on many occasions, made a wise decision not to publicly release the photos to the media.

Here is an idea Sarah the quitter. Why doesn’t she run in 2012 and if she gets elected than she can release the picture. Some how I don’t think the talker will walk the talk because she’d be afraid they would come after her. They would too. Please, please Sarah the quitter, run, run, run. I triple dare you.

A country run by Palin would be like the Roman days of Nero when the heads of slain enemies were displayed on pikes as far as the eye could see. Suffice it to say, diplomacy is not her strong suit. She’s a bit “pre-renaissance awakening” for my taste. The Dark Ages is where she belongs, and it seems where she will remain, as most Americans find her both silly and abhorrent, as we should.

The last thing in the world we want to do is turn him into a martyr… Throwing his picture out there would probably do just that… He was an enemy of this country… We got him and he is gone… Lets keep it that way and move on…

I also feel that if the pictures were shown, they would serve as a rallying point to make him a martyr in death for Al Queda. While he was living and in hiding, he was a rallying point due to his ability to elude his enemies for so long. It’s enough for me that he finally got exactly what he deserved.

Remember, this is the woman who did not think the gruesome photos of Track’s hockey teammate, Jeremy Murlock, holding the head of a civilian he had shot in the back and stripped, up like a trophy animal, were anything disgusting. When people like Palin think anyone not their brand of Christian (whatever that is!) is less than human, they see them as animals, and they have no problem dehumanizing them further. She’s sick. I bet she tortured kittens as a kid.
Furthermore, even if they were released, he was shot in the head, so he is not identifiable. They used DNA. It would just inflame the people who thought bin Laden was worth following. Just what we need…another 9-11. Actually, I think the right would welcome that, because then they could go back to their ‘weak Obama’ crap. Heck, they are already dividing America again. I have never seen such blatant hatred for an elected President. Such a determination to bring him down. Such a lack of caring when the country needs to unite to solve our problems. Fox and Palin are a huge part of the problem. Too bad they don’t want to be part of the solution.

I know all of us with half a brain recall the gruesome pics the terrorists put on the internet of that poor guy that was decapitated by those crazies. And they’ve posted horribly offensive pics of dead soldiers. And how did America react? As any sane person with a soul – we were sickened. I do not agree the picture of this dead man will serve any purpose – there’s no dignity in robbing another human being of their dignity in death. I have no sorrow for bin Laden. I do believe our country should not be defined by the same horrible acts of the terrorists. We’re supposed to be more civilized. I do believe however, the dna report would be ok if that was released if there are those that still need something more tangible than a report of his death. I believe our commander in chief and I know if he was capable of orchestrating a lie of that magnitude – we as a nation have truely hit a mind numbing bottom. I won’t allow the insanity of the right wingnuts to bring me down to that level of crazy. I have the right to believe in my President and I will continue to do so until I have proof he is not the leader I see.

Though the SEALS took the cadaver of Bin Ladin with him, they left those of his guards behind. The Pakistani security forces that came in thereafter photographed those and sold them to Reuters, from whom Al Jazeera obtained them. They were shown on the Al Jazeera newscast tonight, faces and gruesomest parts blurred, but evidently very dead. The release is said to have caused still more tension between Pakistan and the United States. I can only imagine what publishing Bin Ladin’s photos would do.

palin has no sense – none. She is an absolute idiot and all of us know that – and those that don’t know in spite of the overwhelming evidence – well, they never will. They are a minority and stupid. I don’t know why the media continues to give her airtime. She is so yesterdays bad news. She’s stupid, she’s nasty, she’s crazy pissed off that Obama won and she keeps forgetting it was McCain running for potus – not her sorry ass stupid self. I blame the media for still giving her any relevance. ugh

“Pussy footing around” – keepin’ it classy, Sarah Palin! Just who is pussy footin’ around, anyway? I’d say that would be the woman hiding from Katie Couric out of fear and cowardice.
If Katie Couric can scare her out of doing network news interviews, we have to ask what Osama bin Laden would do to Sarah Palin.

Does Palin matter any more? No British, Irish, Scottish, Welsh TV, radio nor newspapers carried any comments on Palins’ opinions on Obamas’ excellent decisions regarding terrorism. Rather Obama has the thanks and praise of all heads of state in the European Union for ridding the world of Bin Ladin.

Look at it this way, as long as he is in the news any followers still out there can use it to help recruit… The longer we keep him out there the stronger he will appear to have been… Him dying won’t stop terrorism, but if we harp on it that sure will diminsih the effect his death will make… we need to let it go and move on… The news needs to let it go and move on, but they won’t, anymore than the Sarah Palin’s will… So any of his Al Quada leaders will use it to recruit more followers to their terrorist causes any way they can… As long as he is paraded around the internet and in newpapers he will still have power… We do not need to contribute to that power with pictures of him shot in the head…

You are so right, that these idiots are simply keeping this in the news-for their OWN enhancement,of course, not because they give one damn about this country,or our fighting men&women over there,in harms way! I also read an interesting piece on it tonite-That these complete Fools are so hateful of our great President that they are doing two really stupid things, among many others. One,is,they are actually ADMITTING TO AND GIVING APPROVAL of the illegal torture THEY used on people! So dumb that they forget it violated the Geneva Conv.and they could Go to Jail for that! Second, and worst of all,by running their mouths like that, they are signaling it Okay to do the SAME to OUR soldiers! The article said this alone should get every one of them still in congress, thrown out immediately,an by golly, when you see that in writing, you see just HOW TRUE it is! These Rethugs care about NOTHING decent anymore-unbelieveable!

I’m thinking that the Birther rope a dope worked so well for Obama that he’ll let the rightards start passing around theories as to why not releasing the photo indicates it didn’t really happen. Let them go into full nutball overdrive and then the photos get released via leak or FOIA requests.
You know they’ll fall for it. They can’t help themselves. I’m starting to think our president really is a ninja.
