31% of Sarah Palin Supporters Believe the Rapture is Coming Soon
A new PPP survey released today revealed that 31% of the GOP primary voters who support Sarah Palin believe that the rapture is coming in their lifetime.
The latest PPP national GOP survey revealed something very interesting beyond the horse race numbers. PPP asked about the rapture. While only 18% of GOP primary voters believed that the rapture was coming in their lifetime, 72% of them think that are going to be raptured. For the record, only 19% believe that Obama is going to be raptured. Overall, 51% of GOP primary voters think that Sarah Palin will be raptured. Only 13% think she won’t.
The rapture question provides some insight into who these Republican primary voters are. Mitt Romney had a 30% unfavorable rating in the poll, and 51% of that group believed that the rapture was going to occur on May 21. Michele Bachmann was supported by 9% of GOP primary voters, but 35% of her supporters thought the rapture was coming on May 21, which is nearly double their second favorite May 21 rapture candidate Sarah Palin’s 17%.
Speaking of Sarah Palin, 65% of those who believe that she will be raptured thought the rapture was coming on May 21. Almost three fourths (74%) of those who have a favorable view of Sarah Palin believe that the rapture is coming in their lifetime. A whopping 31% of those who believe that the rapture is coming in their lifetime support Sarah Palin for the 2012 nomination. This is almost double the amount of support (16%) that Romney has among rapture believers.
While Bachmann supporters are the most likely to fall for the Harold Camping rapture stuff, Sarah Palin’s supporters are more in the hard core evangelical and dominionist camps. All of this is not very good news for establishment Republicans like Mitt Romney or Tim Pawlenty, as the hard right evangelical/fundamentalist/dominionist base of the party will make up a considerable sum of the GOP primary electorate.
Those who believe that the Republican Party would never nominate a candidate like Sarah Palin need to take a long look at this data. Palin is not only tied with Romney in the polls, but she is becoming the choice of primary voters on the religious right. This is how Palin can run close to Romney in Iowa, where 36% of Republicans still don’t believe that Obama was born in the US.
Sarah Palin believes that she is Queen Esther and it is God’s will that she be president. All of this might sound a bit crazy to you and me, but to the 31% of people that both believe the rapture is coming in their lifetime and support Palin in 2012, this makes perfect sense.
The GOP primary electorate is disgruntled, unhappy, and in no mood to nominate Mitt Romney. They are primed for a Sarah Palin charm offensive. If GOP primary voters decide to go down with guns blazing in 2012 don’t be surprised if their Obama hate wins out over common sense and they nominate Sarah Palin.
With the rapture right around the corner, Republicans might as well live for today. Right?

No wonder the puppeteers behind the Whackwing are doing everything they can to multiply ignorance, superstition, and hysteria. And then, when they find their tactics have engendered an inconveniently large number of desperate subnormals, it’d be the easiest thing in the world to get them to walk into, say, a thermonuclear testing ground by convincing them they are going to be raptured.

Of course they believe–however SP will not be joining them in heaven, as the gates are only open to those who truly repent their sins. Ain’t gonna happen with her highness! Do you suppose these same believers also sent money to Camping as well as SarahPAC?

that palin is very dense is not up for debate. when you think about the party of lincoln, remember besides the civil war, abolition of slavery & his assassination, that he built bridges, roads, canals, started our first national bank thus stabilizing our currency, & established funding for land grant colleges. how far the republican party has degenerated. but actually both parties have. how far the party of fdr is from the democrat party of today. both parties still support a permanent war economy, no regulation of wallstreet, no control of banks or any financial institution, thus they are allowed to charge usurious interest rates & all kinds of idiotic fees. remember repeal of glass-steagall happened under clinton, which set the stage for the run-amok speculation of wallstreet which has led to an $8 trillion loss of american homeowner equity. so just because palin is one of the stupidest people that have ever been running for high office, & just because romney, pawlenty & trump are all phonies good for nothing except a good laugh, don’t assume obama is a good president. he isn’t, he’s awful because he has no clue as to how to right america’s economy. his pious, calvinist manner of lecturing the american people could be tolerated if he knew what he’s doing, but he doesn’t. the sad thing is, he’s better than any of the republican ninnies.

I wonder who she will chose as her vice president?

Its truely unbeleivable that she could be nominated. With her carefully prepared statements about the founders, the constitution etc she knows nothing about the country
Does she think the republicans in Congress would work with her? Will the Koch brothers allow this?(probably, an easy mind like walkers to mess with), Will David Koch run?
Im getting on a bit in years, I do want to be raptured once again before I die. But put me in the 50% that dont think it will happen
BTW, Nugent said once he had news for us, we dont have to go. My news is the rapture will occur around 5 billion years from now when the sun runs out of fuel

I vote that we let them all be raptured and leave this earth to the sane people who will be left. I am a Christian, and I believe that all will be judged, but the rapture stuff is way left of normal. We believe that every time someone predicts the end of the earth on a certain day, we should all go plant apple trees. We can enjoy a rich harvest of apples each year while we wait. The Bible says that no one will know when the judgement day will come.

Agree Susie -
If they want it – let them do it themselves. After all, the meek shall inherit the earth, right?

“The Meek”, at this point, will be bacteria, algae and some insects. In three billion years, maybe they’ll have evolved to be more respectful of the planet (and less antagonistic toward each other) than we have been.

Sarah had a hard time as Governor because she couldn’t be as dictatorial as she had been with her campaign staff. As POTUS, in one of her piques of paranoia, she could declare Marshall Law and get around those pesky advesaries who quote facts like, oh, what a law actually says or, golly, why water goes downhill.
BTW, the term “word salad” isn’t just a funny way of saying that she can be incoherent. It’s an actual psychological symptom of schizoid thinking. A less orderly mind I have not seen outside a clinic. But the same people blind to this can be expected to entertain “magical thinking” such as the Supernatural: The Rapture and such. My God uses creation and the system of natural law to get the job done.

The “iconic” representation of St. Sarah and the blessed Trigg!!! WATER TIGER!!!!!!!!
Yes, appears she is planning on running, just milking the Fox cash cow as long as she can and playing the prick tease game which she does so well.
Did you hear the inane things she said today about Paul Revere’s ride? Sheesh! But, it seems not to matter because we have the “lamestream media” running hither and yon, going through boxes of kleenex, and never questioning the idiotic blatherings……I am getting too old for this.

Wait. A book dealing with “Babygate” is on the way. Obama ended up producing his long form birth certificate. Maybe we can get quid pro quo – a little DNA. I’m betting that that kid is the product of Bristol and that between 50-75% of the genetic markers are identical to hers. That would account for the chromosomal abnormalities as Bristol’s age and health cannot.
I know, it’s nasty, but you can’t put it past that family. Sarah has been too busy with her self-promotion since 2006 to “mother” teenagers. Isn’t Bristol the one who got caught with friends partying in a vacant house they’d broken into? Isn’t she the one with a DUI at 16 and missing months of school later that year? Would she even remember who she slept with on those liquor soaked occasions?
LOL at the “good Christians” on their conspicuous “family” bus tour. They keep setting themselves up and don’t notice when their s**t hits the fan because theirs doesn’t stink. Can a person be more deluded? (rhetorical: Hitler comes to mind.)

Proof that the kool-aid drinkers are Palin followers. Where in the bible does the word rapture come up even once? Gotta love the people who rewrite according to their own ignorance. If there were to be a rapture, it couldn’t happen soon enough to take these nutjobs into oblivion and leave life on earth to the sane, resonable, intelligent folk.

Jason is on track…and do not think it a coincidence that that 31% is within a point or two of the the number of self-identified Christian conservatives who are camped in the Republican Party that intend to vote for Palin.
She absolutely DOES believe that the Rapture is coming within the next “20 to 40 years” at the latest. She is basing that on her scripture-twisted learning of the Dominionist bible world view that the Rapture is scheduled with a “lifetime” of Israel becoming a State.
Of course, there is a lot more to this…but Jason is right…we can’t make this fantasy up. We just report it.

Why do people keep talking about something created by a religious NUT, why don’t you ask the Catholic Church what they think about such nonsense.
You guys in the US are about the only ones believing this crap, and of course your little groups mentally colonized by you in other countries when you export your bullshit, you know “missionaries”, especially to countries that are nearly a 99% Catholic.

Many countrys send out missionary’s, and the rapture joke is not confined to the US.
Why dont YOU ask the catholic church how it feels about it? I am not the least bit concerned about it

So convenient that the Rapture is coming right up, then we don’t have to bother about protecting the environment, providing a living wage or health care, educating the kids, etc. And since you won’t need money after the Rapture, it’s OK for the top 2% and the corporations to take all that for now. Yep, joke’s on them, huh?

In Game Change Palin was asked how she could remain so calm in the face of being chosen for the second highest office in the land. She replied that it was God’s will so her particular brand of nuttery has been going on for some time.If you go on youtube you can view the witch doctor video which is even more bizarre. If she isn’t already this dingbat needs to be on meds.I for one don’t believe this woman is electable and I have faith that the majority of the country sees her as much of an idiot as I do.Come on folks it doesn’t take a phd to see this woman is nuts.Just take a deep breath and relax.

Well Camping says the rapture will happen on October 21st now so there is still hope.Maybe we’ll get lucky and palin will be the first to go.I’d like to be whereever she is so I can wave bye-bye.Rather laugh with the sinners then cry with the saints.Does anyone know where this rapture crap came from in the first place?I don’t think there is anything about it in the bible.
