I agree with your notion in the article that politicians should be held accountable for their vitriolic rhetoric. After all, with rights come responsibility. Even the right to freedom of speech and assembly come with the adjacent responsibility to be held accountable for the probable results of the message.

However, your general theme was contradicted early in the article when you referred to Palin’s rhetoric as being spoken with “malice aforethought.” As you probably know, the term malice aforethought typically refers to the intent requirement of first degree murder, where the act is done with the conscious intent to cause death or great bodily harm. It’s difficult to believe that you actually think that Palin acted with this sort of intent.

The responsibility that adheres to freedom of speech applies not only to politician, but to us as well.

Discursive psychology is a dangerous tool in the wrong hands. Politicians use discourse to manipulate the general population. Sarah Palin is either particularly ignorant, or particularly evil.

That analogy does not follow. You are equating Palin with the driver but in this analogy she is the rain. The gun man is the driver and the child is the victims.

Well, I’m Canadian and I live in France, I never ever heard of “Daily Kos” until today. Funny though that everyone here and in Canada knows Palin… Whoever thinks they share the same popularity seems a bit off the reality check.
