Saturday Night Shocker: Behind The Spin the Romney Camp Admits They’re Losing
By: Jason EasleyNov. 3rd, 2012more from Jason Easley
Behind their attempted Saturday night media spin was a bit of read between the lines truth. The Romney campaign thinks that they are losing this election.
After a press conference with reporters where David Axelrod and Jim Messina discussed all of the president’s paths to 270 Electoral College votes, the Romney campaign responded with a statement that only the biggest of partisans could believe.
Romney Political Director Rich Beeson had this response to Obama’s numbers and facts, “If the Obama campaign spent half the time trying to get people back to work as they do spinning reporters on why they’re going to win this election, the unemployment rate might not have gone up. That said, it doesn’t matter how many offices you have, staff you hire, or ground game plans you have – you need a candidate who can tell the American people why things will be better, not worse, after four years of their leadership. The choice is clear: Governor Romney is offering Americans a future of more jobs, more take home pay, and less debt. The President can’t do the same.”
On the surface this looks like more of the same spit in the eye of reality stuff that the Romney campaign has putting out for months, but it is always a mistake to read anything literally in politics. Look beyond the talking points at what the Romney campaign is really saying. They are saying that they don’t need field offices, staff, and get out the vote efforts. Beeson even went as far as to claim that Romney didn’t need a plan to win.
What this means is that the Romney campaign knows that they are losing the get out the vote effort. They know they are losing the ground game. They know that they don’t have enough field offices and staffers in swing states, and most importantly, they have no mapped out plan for winning this election.
When a campaign starts talking about how it doesn’t matter that their opponent is beating them it certain areas, that kind of talk is a huge flashing neon sign telling everyone within earshot that they are losing in those areas. The Romney folks know that they are getting clobbered in early voting and the mobilization of supporters.
Beeson’s statement tonight was an attempt to keep the media on board with the myth of Romentium. The Romney folks have to keep spinning this contest as up for grabs, or else the whole house of cards will come crashing down, and Republicans might not show up to vote on election day.
Once again, nothing in politics should be read literally. There are always deeper meanings and motivations in play.
This statement tonight was a beneath the surface admission that the Romney campaign knows they are losing. They know that Obama has momentum. They see the train getting ready to go off the cliff, and their attempted spin suggests that they have no idea how to stop it.
The Obama advantage in early voting and GOTV is real. And by trying to tell the media how much it doesn’t matter, the Romney campaign admitted that they know they are heading into election day behind. Time is running out and all Romney has left is a hope that you don’t show up to vote, and GOP voter suppression machine if you do.
This election is in your hands, and Mitt Romney knows it.

The best present I could have for my 62nd birthday is to attend the second Obama Inauguration on Jan 21st (or whatever day it is!). I already have my plane ticket and hotel room, all I need are tickets from the DSCC, like last time. (We were in the infamous “Purple Section”). Or, if we don’t get tickets, we’ll stand on the Mall and watch it on the Jumbotron.

So cutting taxes, lowering Federal income, then adding 2 trillion to the deficit on the military is not spending more than we take in? Losing all your tax deductions makes you happy?
You are stuck on stupid. Romney no more believes in constitutional government than Bush did.
KrisKringleKahn
Nov. 4th, 2012 at 12:48 pm
What is so scary about your comment is that Romney’s “church” considers the Constitution to be a sacred, divinely inspired document which coincides with the book of Mormon… so if you aren’t Mormon, do you REALLY want to live under the “Mormon Plan for America” where the Mormon church laws are set up as governance? Sharia Law and the Mormon Plan for America are nearly one and the same. The Mormon ceremonies were “borrowed” from Freemasonry.

@Edward Responsible GOP, Mormons as Christians, Republican with a heart, honest Romney, patriotic Teabaggers, intellectual Evangelicals, informed Fox “News” viewer, creationist science teacher, Christian racist, neo-con math, and Romney POTUS. Anybody notice the pattern? Each is a contradiction in terms, an oxymoron, if you will. Lol. Fail!!

To all my Republican/Romney voting family and friends: Yeah; lets get rid of FEMA…while we are at it…lets get the big bad government off our backs…
…that is ….till we need it right??? It’s okay…take some time to think about it while countless victims of Hurricane Sandy are in desperate need of the big bad government’s help. (Vote for Obama/Biden 2012)
I WAS a Romney supporter untill i heard about their supposed Tax plan…but i was really disturbed by the news from Freeport Illinois were a company outsourced American jobs to China….then I researched Bain Capitol and Vulture Capitalism. Then i just look at Romney’s legacy in Mass. The ONLY thing that I like about Romneys record there is his health-care record. now that is what BAFFLES me considering they want to get rid of Obamacare AND spun the record regarding the 71.6 billion that was touted as a ‘cut’. But i just am impressed with Obama’s record because Obama has always proven to make the right decisions at the most crucial times. He will not change positions every 4 days, and has a very fair approach to helping all Americans recover from the recession. Governor Romney is trying to sneak his way into the White House. He is lying through his teeth on national television, flip-flopping on serious issues that affect every persons health, and proposing enormous promises that he cannot possibly pay for.

Well, Jeb Bush will make sure they don’t lose Florida. Shame on that state. They need to get with it on early voter ballots and mail ins. It’s the twenty first century and they’re about to loose their beaches and plenty of their acreage to salt swamp as sea levels rise. It’s time to give up their great-grandparents’ notions of equality and deal with today’s realities: democracy, new economic models that work well during recession, environmental protection and, yes, climate change.
Jimi Wilson

How do you propose that Jeb Bush will influence the election? He’s no longer governor and he holds no office in Florida.
Florida Girl
Nov. 4th, 2012 at 4:31 am
No we do not have governor Bush but we do have RICK SCOTT and the man is corrupt. Rick Scott has attempted everything in his power to suppress the democratic vote including shortening early voting days from 14 to 8. People asked him to issue an emergency order extending early voting for 1 day because people were standing in line waiting to vote for 8 hours. He said No!!!
dhag
Nov. 4th, 2012 at 4:49 am

As of November 1, Mitt Romney is one of the first presidential candidates ever to be charged with violating federal ethics law.
United Automobile Workers (UAW) and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) have just charged Romney with hiding between 15.3 to 11.5 million dollars from the auto industry bailout in his wife Anne’s “blind” trust to conceal the gain and reduce taxes on it.

The best thing for us to do, is to make sure we vote against the Republicans and vote them out of office. They are dishonest, their policies NO ONE is buying it or want to be a part of it. Only rich people… this is how you vote against the hate machine:
I voted for all “DEMOCRATS.” I voted against the LIARS!
I voted for the man who speak the truth and respect each and every Americans. Not the 1%, the 100%.
The man who is a “Christian.” Not a man who is a part of a cult.
The man who supported equal pay for women (my wife & daughters.)
The man who do not promoted “Rapist!”Telling rape victims, “it is God’s gift to be raped and you must bring forth the child.”
“SHARIA LAWS” coming to the USA, courtesy of the Republicans. Love it, vote for them or vote against them.
“SHARIA LAWS” (ISLAM/MUSLIM) coming to America.
If you voted for the REPUBLICANS, you are voting against your self interest.
Vote for all “DEMOCRATS” because they have the FACTS!
Kenneth Morgan

Make sure your ballot is complete if you vote straight democratic. Some states have you also vote for President and VP. So check your ballot. I think Indiana requires a separate vote for president, etc.
Jimbo
Nov. 4th, 2012 at 12:45 am
Everyone, when you vote on the voting machines please remember DO NOT SELECT THE ALL DEMOCRAT tag in some states it will not select the DEM presidential nominee…instead vote for each item separately!! Make sure your ballot selects your presidential candidate accurately! Make your vote count!!

This is an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions list) for the 2012 United States Presidential Election. I need to disclose up front that I support President Obama. However, with the exception of the very last question, this FAQ is designed as a collection of factual information (such as the latest poll results) and of analysis that is as objective as possible. Why did I do this? To educate interested readers. My ambitions are not as grandiose as Sam Wang of the Princeton Election Consortium, who wrote ” When I started doing the Meta-Analysis of State Polls in 2004, I thought it would be a useful tool to get rid of media noise about individual polls. … Space would be opened up for discussion of what really mattered in the campaign – or even discussion of policies. To my disappointment, this has not happened. Maybe it just takes time. Or perhaps polling nerds need to get a few more races right. Let’s see if we move the ball forward for Team Geek on Tuesday.”

No matter how true this good news is, there is still no time for complacency. I personally don’t put anything past the GOP, and that particularly goes for their ethically challenged nominee. They would like nothing better than for us to rest on our laurels and have those who haven’t voted sit out November 6th on the assumption that the election is a done deal in our favor.

As soon as Ryan’s people announced his future plans (I think it was on Wednesday??) that was the blazing flare that they are not thinking that this election is winnable. Sarah Palin’s people did the same thing 4 years ago.
singhx
Nov. 4th, 2012 at 6:47 am
That’s exactly right. Ryan’s people are already out there trying to get him “a job” according to sources that have spoken to aides inside his camp. There is an article on this subject and “Daily Kos” featuring the 4 categories they’re going to try and pigeon-hole him.
Out of the 4, my bets are on a lobbying job, although, I thought there was a law on the timing of leaving office then, turning around lobbying. They also think he’d make a great “Professor” (ha! an Ayn Rand expert?) or an esteemed member of a “Think Tank” as he has such pumped-up “brains”…ys’ that’s the ticket! Brains!

Romney says he is going to repeal Obamcare on day One; Start an economic war with China on day One; Get a balanced Budget on day One; Approve the Keystone Pipeline Project on day One…? Is there really any other things Mitt Romney wouldn’t do on Day 1? Mitt Romney is probably going to have a crowded Day! Promising everything endlessly is a campaign is telling of Romney’s character
Governor Romney, stop insulting the intelligence of your supporters. You CANNOT do all you’re promising on Day 1! On day 1, you’ll probably still be over-excited for winning an election that more than 25 polls, statistically says, you are going to loose! And, my friend, you deserve to loose because of your lies and inconsistency in virtually everything in your campaign. Are you still going to privatize FEMA? Are you still denying to answer questions from journalists?
Who is the real Mitt Romney? Stand Up!

its becoming pretty clear that the only way Republicans will win this election is by stealing it. this is why the Ohio secretary of state, Mr husted is playing non-stop dirty games with early voting suppression tactics. he needs to be removed from office. he gets his lead from Romney who has got to be the most vile dirty politician I ‘ve ever seen. he acts like he is royalty and entitled. its amazing how he has actually lured a majority of white America to vote for him by playing the race card alongl with all his other under -handed schemes. not this guy. wake up people. don’t vote for a return to Bush policies that are a humiliating failure and desperately being blamed on obama. aren’t you smarter than that. reject the Romney cheating machine that is out and operating at full throttle. he his not entitled or worthy of the highest office in this country. he is not entitled to anything but being tossed out on his worthless backside

Rachel Maddow did a wonderful segment on Friday night about the posturing during the week before Election Day and especially on the weekend before. Both sides do it. But somehow I have the feeling that the GOP really doesn’t understand how to do a real political campaign. Unfortunately the GOP does understand how to commit election fraud and that this the greatest danger for Democrats this coming Tuesday. So, if you haven’t voted already, be sure to get to the polls early and take lots of identification with you. You never know what kinds of games the GOP will play.

These facts completely refute your rant about us “free rides.” Your “hero,” if you can call him that, is a pathological liar who cares nothing about anyone who is wealthy. If you are a non-wealthy woman of child-bearing years, and even beyond, it should alarm you that he is supporting and supported by people who would interfere with reproductive rights and health issues unique to even older women. If Romney did win, you would be in for an extremely rude awakening because his policies are harmful and outdated.

I like how sharp people are in suggesting that this might be a double-bluff: get Democrats confident, so they won’t bother to vote.
But, for me, in the Commonwealth of Virginia, who receives 10, 12, 20 robo-calls every day, and have done so for weeks now, had I at any time leaned toward voting for Romney, this harassment (I can’t think of any other way to describe it) would make me the most solid Obama supporter there is. Why would anyone think that dunning people with mechanical voices would influence anyone to change their opinion, or decide to vote if feeling indifferent? It’s like those companies who are threatening their employees if they don’t vote Romney. Again, were I considering Romney, receiving an email like that would make me RUN the other way.

Why Myth Romney Will NEVER Be President:
1. Myth can’t be president while being the greatest CON MAN in the history of the United States of America.
2. Truth always triumphs over lies; and hope over fear.
3. No one knows what Myth Romney stands for, not even Myth Romney knows what Myth Romney stands for. Maybe Ann Romney knows but she is not sharing that with us any time soon; other than the fact that she is concerned for his mental stability.
4. No president has ever been elected without winning their home state and Myth has more than one – MA, MI and NH. That makes a Mitt a THREE TIME LOSER because he’s losing in ALL THREE and by CLOSE TO 30% in Massachusetts! They know a CON MAN when they see one!
5. Myth Romney is a severe candidate. First he was severely conservative during the primaries; then he was severely moderate during the debates; and finally he has been severely dishonest throughout. Severely dishonest is the common factor in ALL THREE forms of Myth; and severity cannot be a ticket to the presidency.
6. Osama Bin Laden is dead, GM is alive, Fiat is staying, Ohio is roaring, Wisconsin recall is history, Latinos are marching in Nevada and Colorado, and voter suppression efforts have failed.
7. You can always safely bet on the opposite of what Newt Gingrich says. He said that Romney is going to win 300 Electoral College votes. My transformation language translates that to: Obama wins more than 300 Electoral College votes on Tuesday.
8. Smart guys like Chris Christie and Mayor Bloomberg know how to pick winners.
9. Myth is a PATHOLOGICAL LIAR and he is not worthy of holding the highest office in the country. He’s not presidential material; not in any sense of the word!
10. Being President requires integrity, moral character, honesty, diplomacy and values; none of which Myth has an iota of or a clue about! Myth showed his true moral character in the secret video that he wasn’t aware of was being recorded and he spoke of…

Well said. I would also add that Mitt Romney is not a business leader. His business career consisted of “harvesting” (Romney’s word) other businesses. That’s not creating anything – no product, no jobs, just money in Mitt’s pocket. And that money was not kept in the US but hidden abroad in many countries so that he did not have to pay US taxes. To me, Mitt Romney and all that he stands for is just anathema.

Finally, a team the reads between the lines; I love that. I’ve been pushing this notion on the CNN Facebook Situation Room (via Wolf Blitzer). Between the lines and body language are great tools, because it tells a whole lot. For instance, in the Last debate, I think it was in the Close Statement, Mitt Romney was saying how America was the most innovative blab, blab, blab, and while he was saying it, he sought of gasped for air; which is a cool indication that he really does not believe that. Well, we all now that Mitt Romney thinks that China is the most innovative country in the world; that that may just be true. China has been very innovative with their resources and their recycling of garbage; we all all that. Why didn’t he just say “Look, China is the most innovative country in the world; we all know that. I intend to adopt, and or mandate the adoption of many of their innovative ways” Right, because he actually believes China to be innovative; he said it himself in a video clip floating on the internet. The video where he talks about visiting a factory where the women workers are working to save for their wedding, and are locked in because people come in work and then want to be compensated. In that video, he clearly indicates his enthusiasm for the “Chinese” model of innovation. So, Wow, very impressed with your context in defining Rich Beeson’s statement; I agree one hundred percent and have been working practically 24/7, 365 days x 2 putting that very same points out there. Carl Jung is singing and dancing in his grave.

Neither rombama nor obomney are presidential qualifiers. Don’t care how you try to spin their platforms, they are the same. Backed by the same nwo trash that’s destroying the nations globaly.
Get a clue – If you are backing either one of these criminals then you are definately part of the problem, not the solution. So don’t bother to vote will ya. Let the one’s that have taken the time to do their research and learn what this nation is facing. Just stay the F home.

Is it only me! But it seems to me that Romney’s campaign has never worried about their candidate losing. They are just too darn confident. Could there be some voter-fraud or election rigging afoot? With Carl Rove and his gang anything is possible. These guys are way too confident! We need to get out there and vote. If the lead for President Obama is only a few percentage points I believe they may have a way to throw this election. That’s what scares me.

Jane, you are as pathetic as Mitt ever was. I have a son-on-law going over there in jan. I just had a nephew come back after 3 and 1/3 tours. He came back early because he is permanently disabled due to an IED hitting his Hummer. Both them and the 623rd bat. and the 3rd bat. they are in say they are voting for Obama. I don’t usually hate people, but when I do, they are just like YOU.
