F Joy…this is truly about economics and we just simply do not have that pull…BUT it is NO excuse for us not coming forward and speaking out. I have personally seen it time and time again that when an individual (including my own experience) comes forward…politicians really listen.

One of the things that frustrates me is that too many buy into the sales pitch that “your vote doesn’t matter”. Well, guess who promotes that BS? Think about who that serves…and then take a look at who actually votes. It is a sad commentary…

Looks like jmaid’s point was grammatical, not disagreeing with using the word “relish,” but advocating using it in a proper construction: one revels in something, and one relishes something. If using the word “relish,” then your phrase should read, “To mock the poor, relish other people’s sufferings….” Alternatively, you could write “To mock the poor, revel in other people’s sufferings….”

Like jmaid, I applaud your article and its pointing out some outrageous hypocrisy, and I also see where it could be even better, with some closer attention to grammatic or linguistic detail (for instance, in your bulleted list, the second item beginning with “They booed” says the opposite of what you probably meant to say, due to the common problem of ‘multiple negative tangle’). Thanks for writing this passionate article.

I agree, but sadly, this is more about performance art and profits than serving the interests of the public. It does, without a doubt, skew the perspective of those who watch. Granted…most Americans really don’t watch and we have to keep that perspective. I can speak for myself and others that I know that we represent a minority who monitor politics as a sport with real consequences.

These debates have produced hideous statements representing an undercurrent that is permeating “conservative” politics and are not the sentiment of “Eisenhower Republicans”.

WE have a breed of “social conservatives” perpetuated by the media who refuses to call them what they are – extremists. Their views do NOT reflect most conservatives and this reckless rhetoric is contributing to the divide in this country more than any other factor on a national level.
