Allen West Shames the House of Representatives
Will Speaker Boehner Censure Allen West for Conduct Unbecoming a House Member?
Florida Republican Representative Allen West tweeted yesterday “Anyone with an Obama 2012 bumper sticker, I recognize them as a threat to the gene pool. Check out my weekly wrap up tinyurl.com/3dxc36k”
West may be too ignorant to know it, but this kind of rhetoric is not acceptable by a House member. The Speaker, however, is fully aware that West’s behavior violates the first rule of the House code of ethics. It’s ironic that he and his colleagues refer to union members as thugs and to the President as Chicago gangster, when the only people engaging in thuggish, low-level, gangtser rhetoric as a Party are Republicans. If you want to really get sick, go read his email. But the tweet alone is enough to earn a censure from a Speaker with any ethical values.
After the Arizona massacre and the Palin fan who rammed into a car with an Obama bumper sticker on purpose, pushing it up onto the curb and then hitting it again when the driver tried to stop after Sarah Palin told her cult to “stop cars with Obama bumper stickers”, it would seem obvious that such uncivil rhetoric from elected officials and Party representatives cannot and should not be tolerated. The man driving the Obama car had his young daughter in the car with him when the angry Palin fan smashed into his car.
The Republicans engage in this rhetoric and call it “heated political rhetoric” after an unhinged man shot and killed six people and injured several others, among them Representative Gabby Giffords (his target) in Arizona on the heels of Sarah Palin’s “crosshairs” on Gabby Giffords. And yet, they’re so afraid of the atmosphere of hate that they are stoking that they expect the American taxpayer to give them 55 million dollars for the security at their Florida (ironic) convention.
Who will protect us from their rabid followers? Who will pay for the people’s security? Certainly not the politicians. We’re nothing but collateral damage in their fight to remain relevant.
The House Ethics Rules Official Code of Conduct rule #1:
1. A Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, or employee of the House shall conduct himself at all times in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House.
Has Allen West not gotten to that first rule yet or does he not understand it?
I tweeted this to the Speaker: .@speakerboehner Censure @AllenWest for conduct that reflects poorly on the House unless you want another Arizona massacre on your hands.
I’m sure the Speaker will ignore this completely deplorable tweet by a member of his Party, but one thing we have that they want is 55 million dollars.
I would suggest that Mr West apologize and take his tweet down before demanding 55 million dollars for security in order for his state to hold the Republican National Convention. I’m not quite sure the citizens would like to fund the very people who are putting targets on their backs and bringing shame on the House of Representatives.
Speaker Boehner might be looking for his spine still, but the question is, does he have a soul?

oops, sorry. I misread you reply as “they love our country”. Time for new glasses.
You are right, they love the money they get from the Feds as long as they don’t have to contribute.

Gary Johnson, former governor of New Mexico. He’s a candidate, but doesn’t have a prayer of getting through the primaries in the “new” republican party.

I wish this were a poll, because I believe the over-whelming response would be Boehner would not censor West! Why, they do not censor their own for conduct unbecoming only Democrats are held to that standard. Vitter is still serving after illegal and unethical behavior, and Weiner was forced to resign for behavior that was not illegal, only in poor taste. Rules and regulations are only used to enforce Democrats and their behavior, not conservatives misbehaving badly, and sometimes criminally!

You mean “censure”. As in “the act of condemning or blaming sternly”. “censor” means “to suppress or delete material or ideas that are considered objectionable”.
The latter is antithetical to a functioning democracy. The former is what the article is asking about.

Reminds me of the tactics used by the Sturmabteilung (Nazi SA Brownshirts) before the Nazis achieved political success in the 1930′s.

In case noone has noticed, the republicans have become the enemy of the average American. On another website it is claimed that by looking at the American flag, it turns a person’s political leanining toward republicans. As for me, it makes me think of freedom, and the liberal ideas that our country was founded on. teabaggers and dominionists think that they can intimidate others who disagree with their political beliefs. Well, not me! They are not the only ones in this country who are armed and not going to retreat, but will reload. Whenever they threaten violence, I will tell them to bring it on. Enough of their threats and intimidation already!

You defile your comments with your bigotry! Teabagging is a disgusting sexual practice which is certainly not done by the majority of people right or left. I would not use that term in person if I were you as it could be similar to calling one a son-of-a-dog if you get my drift. Here you are condemning Alan West and your rhetoric is just as bad or worse. Could anyone say “HYPOCRITE”.

Um, actually, they called themselves teabaggers and teabagging is not a threat and Larry is not an elected official who took an oath not to act like a thug, and as such, he can say whatever he pleases just like Rush Limbaugh et al continue to do even though the last shooter says he was listening to them as he plotted his assassination plot against the President (the guy who took out an elderly lady on his way to complete his “mission”). Other than that, you’re spot on.

GeorgeFranklin…I can excercise my freedom of speech just like any good american can. If you are not man enough to stand up to the thugs, then I am sorry for you. If you consider my willingness to stand up to a thug and stand on the side of a woman as me being a hypocrite, then again, I am sorry for you. Where are peoples spines?

I see no bigotry there. Grow up. Tea bagger can refer to more than one thing just like brook
Tea bagger here refers to uneducated people who think guns are their highest priority

Uh George…the “Teabaggers” named themselves…HELLO! And in Larry’s post I did not see him referencing Alan West at all?
Quit makin’ things up like your queen says!
And I will say Allan West is a piece of Pond scum and he is unfit to brag on his twitter page he is a US congressman! He has also bragged in the past he has a higher security than the POTUS. He needs to go.

Perhaps you don’t know, but at one of the Tea Party conventions, people were wearing and selling buttons that said, plain as day, “Proud to be a Teabagger.” This was after most people discovered the meaning given in the Urban Dictionary. They called themselves that first.

Teabagging is not a threat–and Teapublicans called THEMSELVES “Teabaggers” to start with.

If boehner doesn’t address this he’s as big of a spineless cry-baby as I thought. Where do these big mouth know-nothings get off talking chit about the potus? He’s palin’s male, black counterpart sending out dog whistles to the mentally unstable faction in hopes of stirring up violence.
West? He’s vile, despicable, cowardly and no lady…Representative Wasserman-Shultz’s response to his childish comments made him seem small & petty and a wee-wee grasping chicken-chit that doesn’t have the guts to address the congresswoman in person. If he was present he could have responded to her in person. His resorting to sending nasty emails is just an indication of his spineless nature.Congressman Wasserman-Shultz spent no more time on him than she would on an annoying gnat, which is what he is.

I had not heard about this. I am still steamed abut the insulting e-mail he wrote about Debbie W-Schultz (should have checked the spelling of her name first). I saw it on HP this morning. I think he has some loose nuts and bolts. His behavior is so outrageous.

Thankfully the majority of responses to West’s email rant have been negative. The comments I feel especially encouraged about are those from the brave and honorable military sectors. He has embarassed their codes of honor and decency, their respect, their service. And that he did it as a retired officer is particularly galling and disrespectful.
This is the man who boasted in his campaign that he had a higher security clearance than President Obama. A man who obviously doesn’t understand the concept of Commander in Chief. No longer an Officer; certainly not a Gentleman.

I doubt that West ever was a ‘gentleman’. You just have to visit the googles to read several interesting articles about his military service.

Do your job, Speaker Boehner! Until you stand up for common civility and respect in the House, you will soon be presiding over a cacophony of angry shouting and name calling critters, not dignified enough to be called legislators.

He will never nor will any other GOP ever apologize for anything they say or do. Surely you’ve noticed that by now! THEY DO NOT GET SENSORED! THEY CAN CALL A PRESIDENT A LIAR in a formal forum. It matters NOT. Thats why I have ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT FOR ANY RW IN THIS COUNTRY. If you believe in what they do AND HOW THEY BEHAVE then you cannot possibly be my friend.

Republicans are big babies, they have their tantrums. they need to grow and stop actling like kids. They are so irresponsible and they dont give a crap about any one but their bank accounts. Self ish and mean souls. I cant wait for Judgment day. I just want to stand by GOD and Jesus, and watch who is being judged by their words, action and deeds, as well as their spirit. They are very disrespectful and will never admitt they are WRONG, no matter how wrong they are.

Only if Reid censures Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) for calling Republicans “dead-beat debtors” and “cult fringe.”
Or perhaps in addition to censuring West, Boener needs to censure Debbie Wasserman Schultz for saying Republicans “hate women” and that they want to bring back “Jim Crow.”
Either we tone down the rhetoric on both sides, or we punish all offenders equally.
Anne

Well, if we want to go back that far, how about the racist e-mails that some Republicans have sent out among themselves about the president? What about Joe Wilson’s outburst calling the president a liar? In addition, if Republicans don’t want to be thought of as “hating women,” then they need to stop supporting legislation that deprives women of the means of being responsible for their sexual health, namely defunding Planned Parenthood in their zeal to ban abortions. While I won’t presume to say they want to bring back Jim Crow, the fact remains that their actions hurt blacks disproportionately, and mouthpieces like Alan West who echo their nonsense don’t alter that fact. The incivility we see is not equal on both sides, and it is blatant hypocrisy to pretend that it is.
