I am further informed that a right-wing foundation has paid quite handsomely for young men to don the Che Guevara T-shirts and wave the hammer and sickle flags they provide at OWS and other librul events, and to behave themselves as disreputably as they can without getting caught. This election season looks like being dirty, ugly, and perilous, to say nothing of the sequelae.

I had (and have) severe FMS, a spastic colon (usually goes along with FMS), arthritis in my spine and hands, and neurological impairment that without medicine, causes my handwriting to not be legible (sometimes not even to myself). I live with constant pain (you should hear the “Good Christian” doctors carry on about giving me something stronger than eating the over-the-counter stuff like Aleve and Advil). When I mentioned the difficulties I faced, the people at the church we used to attend would say things like “Get a Job!”, “You must be God’s suffering servant”, and “everyone hurts a little now and then!”. Those are just some of the dismissive things we encountered.

The end result was that my eyes were opened to the truth about conservatism. I’d always heard from the Republican party that things like disability and so on were set up for people who needed help, but that it was being misused by parasites and lazy bums. I believed them and thought that there was a safety net available if things went wrong, but when my health got too bad to work like I used to, I learned that ANYONE trying to get disability or food stamps or medical care is considered a parasitic deadbeat – I received that label because I couldn’t “Get a Job!”. I also learned that the “safety net” had huge holes in it and if you don’t fit a stereotype, you fall through. I also learned that my story wasn’t unusual.

It’s a long story, but we struggled through (even had to beg for food several times) and I got my degrees, and because of them I found part-time work I can do because the people I work for cut me a little slack (mainly allow me to work from a comfortable folding chair that I carry and they realize that I have to pace myself – I can’t be pushed).

I’m worried that they will repeal the ACA, and since I had a TIA in December, it means that if they do, I probably won’t be able to get medical coverage. I now have to take 5-6 pills in the morning and anywhere from 2-4 in the evening, mainly to prevent another TIA or stroke, but also to make my handwriting legible and to help in other ways. I worry that getting my meds will become impossible, which could eventually be a death sentence. The really angering thing is that there is proof “out there” that government nuclear testing caused most of my problems, but they won’t open the books without my proving it happened first. No, they just want to blame and accuse and deny.

They also expect the churches to take over helping people… well, what kind of help is “Get a Job” anyway? That is, if they don’t send you to a church who slaps you on the forehead and then when that fails, blames you and throws you out on the street.
