Stephen Colbert Proposes Shock Collar if Bachmann Breaks Marriage Vow
more from Hrafnkell Haraldsson
Stephen Colbert took on Michele Bachmann on Comedy Central yesterday for her signing of the FAMILY LEADER pledge. As Colbert points out, the “African Americans were better off as slaves” preamble has been taken out, but Bachmann (and Rick Santorum) signed the pledge while the wording was in place, thus signifying that they agreed with it:
“Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA’s first African-American President.”Colbert: “Under slavery, not only did black kids have a father and a mother but a lot of times they had another biological father who also owned them. That’s being invested in your kids’ lives.”
Colbert refers to Bachmann’s “sensitivity” to the issue of slavery, saying that for her, taxation is economic slavery and
“Michele Bachmann stands up against slavery in all forms whether it’s the slavery of health care, the slavery of the national debt, or the slavery of the loins.”
Bachamnn says the gay life style is “personal bondage, personal despair, and personal enslavement.”
Colbert quipped: “Yes, personal enslavement, or personal domination depending upon what role you’re playing that night.” He suggests that, “The important thing is to have a safe word; perhaps ‘Bachmann.’”
To Bachmann, Colbert says, “everything is slavery. Don’t walk signs, that’s ambulatory slavery; Fat-free cheese? That’s flavor slavery! Or flavery!”
Colbert asks, “With all the pledges out there how can candidates keep track of everything they’re supposed to be honoring?” His solution is the “Stephen Colbert pledge shock color” using the same sound recognition technology “used to train dogs to stop barking.” You strap it on the candidate and if the candidate forgets the pledges he or she gets zapped.
As Sarah Jones wrote here on July 10 of this odious preamble,
We recall that African American slaves were often not allowed to marry as they couldn’t enter contracts. Their families were split apart at the whim of their owner. The women were often raped by their white master. They did not have a “household”, they had a rickety shack as far away from the manor as possible.
Enjoyable as the image is of Bachmann in the “pledge shock collar,” a shock collar seems the most generous punishment for someone as reprehensible and careless of facts as Michele Bachmann.

Slave marriages were never legally recognized. Slaveowners had to be free to sell either one of them separately from the other. Children were also wholly salable away from their families at any age, though practically, no one wanted them before seven or so. A slave could use violence against a white person only in defense of his or her master; never in defense against the master of self or family, whether from abuse, rape, mutilation, or murder; that was a capital offense. For a full explanation of the Slave Codes, see Kenneth Stampp, “The Peculiar Institution”. As for the idea of a shock collar, let’s give these people a shock every time they tell a lie.

Stephen Colbert is a national treasure. He has got to be the funniet man alive. As much as I love and respect Jon Stewart the writer’s strike proved to me what an absolute genius Colbert really is. He was actually funnier sometimes then with no writers.
His super pac is such a slap in the face to the fec and crooks like gingrich and palin that use these pacs as personal piggybanks.

It’s really revolting to see people like Michele Bachmann minimize the inhumanity and nightmare of slavery inflicted on Africans who were brought to this country in chains. Do these people know anything about, slave pens, auction blocs and the wailing mothers being torn from their infant children to be sold? Do these people know that the law defined enslaved Africans as Chattel. Do they know that if a slave owner died while owing debts slaves, who were part of his estate, were sold separately breaking up families because slave families had no legal standing. Do these idiots know that on large plantations slave children were raised in communal setting while their mothers and fathers were working in the fields, from sun-up to sun-down? Do these people know that a slave owner could rape his slave women (including girls as young as 13 and 14) because they were his property and he was free to use the way he felt?
Its really disgusting to see these spoiled millionaires, like Michele Bachmann, equating taxing the rich, at the rate they paid under President Clinton, to the enslavement of Africans.

The marriage vow has been rendered useless and those who signed it will be ridiculed. Most of the candidates have now said no way san jose. They seen the light
But Bachmann and probably the other idiot are the church people. They were expected to sign it to forward the cause of the “church”.
Epic Fail

If Newt had signed this pledge some years back, he’d be nothing but a piece of charcoal now.

Bachmann talks against big government when she is the one that wants to control everything that takes place in life. She is a major insult to African Americans. She is clueless about slavery or maybe she just simply could care less about the facts. I find her extremely offensive. She could never lead this country. Can you imagine her going after Bin Laden? Give me a break! What a joke. What’s wrong with the people who elected her to the US congress? RECALL all GOP!
