Another Storm Cloud for Romney as Obama’s Convention Ratings Remain Strong
By: Jason EasleySep. 7th, 2012more from Jason Easley
The ratings are in for night three of the DNC and the news is not good for Mitt Romney, as President Obama’s popularity remains strong.
President Obama’s speech drew a combined viewership of 35.7 million. This was over 5 million more viewers that Mitt Romney drew for his speech in Tampa. More telling is where those viewers came from. While over 39% of Romney’s viewers came from Fox News, the majority of Obama’s audience came from four networks. NBC (7.377 million), CNN (5.562 million), MSNBC (4.547 million), and ABC (3.995 million).
Besides the fact that incumbency is a powerful thing, these ratings demonstrate that President Obama remains a popular and powerful political force. Despite four years of unending political attacks on his popularity, the viewership for President Obama’s speech was down roughly ten percent from 2008.
Four years of ceaseless lies, distortions, and personal attacks got the Republican Party just a ten percent drop in viewership. All of that Republican obstruction designed to make Obama a one term president managed to depress viewership by ten percent.
The fact that Romney could not compete with Obama for America’s attention is an ominous sign for the Republican Party. There is no tidal wave of support for electing Mitt Romney. There is no groundswell to boot Obama out.
When you combine the viewership for Obama’s speech with the initial polling that is hinting at a bounce for the president, a circumstantial case can be made for the idea that over the past two weeks Mitt Romney has lost ground.
The nightmare for the Republican Party is that the Obama brand remains strong, and his march to a second term pushes on.

I watched the speech on C-SPAN. I watched the convention on Current TV & C-SPAN. How can these numbers in the article be correct and they don’t mention these two channels?

There were a lot more viewers than only the ones that watched on TV.
TONS of folks watched the DNC convention speeches online via their computers and/or phone apps.
Also, the DNC convention was live-streamed in Spanish.

I watched the DNC on the internet (Huffington Post) one night and NBC for Obama’s speech. Excellent convention and speeches all-around! Obama/Biden ’12

Willard Romney’s ineptitude as a candidate, as well as his deep character flaws, have guaranteed that his convention would be a flop. I tried to watch it, because it’s important to know how the opposition thinks. But just like FOX Noise, the negativity was so stomach-turning that I couldn’t get through it. The Democratic convention, on the other hand, was positive, uplifting and stinging in the speakers’ accurate criticisms of Willard’s policies.

I watched both conventions on multiple channels as I’m a remote control surfer and wanted to see how each network presented them. I think it’s funny how the Rethuglican pundits tried to make a huge issue out of how many times the Dem convention did not mention the word “God” the first night but yet the GOP Taliban never even bothered to honor our troops and Mitt Rob-me’s explanation of that was even worse and entirely disrespectful of our young men & women who served our country & gave their lives. The two conventions were like night & day. One very negative and the other positive. Myself, I see the glass as half full and will continue to work at it.

I tried to watch the Republican convention too(know thine enemy and all), but it was just a total downer, a Jurasic Park convention for dinosaurs.
I actually am starting to feel a little sorry for the republicans and Romney. But that will pass as soon as I hear the next lie line of BS that comes out of Romney or Ryan’s mouth.

I watched the DNC from my laptop as well. I TRIED to watch the RNC, but like others here, was unable to stomach so much negativity represented in the RNC. Besides, I really did not want to lose my hard-earned dinner!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!!!

Watch both conventions on my computer, but loved the exciting, crowd involved DNCC (of course) as opposed to the bland and turgid RNCC, of course.
The Walking Dead Republicans is how I will refer to them from now on.

Obama’s so-called “bump” is a direct result of the liberal media bending over backwards to help their socialist friend.
The lame stream media chose to air Obama’s convention where as RMoney had to dip into his own millions and buy the time on TV. But that’s ok, b/c RMoney only used the money he recently won from a standard, common-man, $100 million bet with a friend.
The biased media also showed its communist allegiance by airing the convention at the most prime television viewing hours of 8pm to 11pm. That certainly gave Obama a HUGE advantage.
And lastly, the unpatriotic media boosted Obama’s standing by consistently cutting to the DNC’s totally diverse audience, and people moved to tears with inspiration and empathy, whereas all they did for RMoney and AynR was consistently cut to the total glut of old, angry white people holding up misspelled “Dis Murca” signs and chanting “WE BUILT THIS! WE BUILT THIS!” while standing under the National Debt sign.
The American media might as well move to Kenya!!

Watched both and had to channel surfduring the RNC, too staid and boring. . Whenit came to the “make my day” orator who looked like Einsteinwith the hair disaray, I thought it was a joke. It sure was, for him , an actor forwhom I’ve lost respect! The DNC was energizing, realistic, respective of all walks of life, races, and religions. One newscater said the clean up for RNC was a total mess. the DNC was immaculate, co cards of poliitcal infor was left behind. GO OBAMA/BIDEN for we all Americans.
